So let's watch a movement happen, start to finish,

and dissect some lessons from it.

First, of course you know,

a leader needs the guts to stand out and be ridiculed.

What he's doing is so easy to follow.

Here's his first follower with a crucial role;

he's going to show everyone else how to follow.

Now, notice that the leader embraces him as an equal.

Now it's not about the leader anymore;

तो अब ये मुहिम केवल नेता की नहीं रही,

it's about them, plural.

ये उन दोनों की है, बहुवचन बन गई है.

Now, there he is calling to his friends.

अब ये अपने दोस्तों को बुलाने लगा है.

Now, if you notice that the first follower

अगर आप ध्यान से देखें तो पहला अनुगामी

is actually an underestimated form of leadership in itself.

असल में नेतृ्त्व का ही कुछ कमतर आंका हुआ स्वरूप है.

It takes guts to stand out like that.

इस तरह आगे बढ़कर साथ देने के लिए बड़ी हिम्मत चाहिए.

The first follower is what transforms a lone nut into a leader.

पहला अनुयायी वह ऐसा व्यक्ति है जो

एक अकेले सनकी को नेता बना देता है.

(Laughter)

(हंसी)

(Applause)

And here comes a second follower.

और अब दूसरा अनुगामी आता है.

Now it's not a lone nut, it's not two nuts --

अब ये कोई एक सनकी या दो सनकी एक साथ नहीं हैं,

three is a crowd, and a crowd is news.

बल्कि तीन, याने मजमा लग गया है, और मजमे का लगना एक ख़बर है.

So a movement must be public.

तो किसी मुहिम या आन्दोलन का सार्वजनिक होना ज़रूरी है.

It's important to show not just the leader, but the followers,

ये इसलिए ज़रूरी है, ताकि सिर्फ नेता ही नहीं, अनुगामी भी दिख सकें

because you find that new followers emulate the followers, not the leader.

क्योंकि आप देखेंगे कि नए अनुगामी

नेता का नहीं, बल्कि उसके अनुगामियों का अनुसरण करते हैं.

Now, here come two more people, and immediately after,

अब यहाँ दो लोग और आ जाते हैं, और उसके तुरंत बाद

three more people.

तीन और आ जाते हैं.

Now we've got momentum. This is the tipping point.

यहाँ से ये ज़ोर पकड़ने लगता है. यही उसके कायापलट का क्षण है.

Now we've got a movement.

ये जद्दोजहद अब एक मुहिम बन चुकी है.

(Laughter)

So, notice that, as more people join in,

ग़ौर कीजिए, जैसे-जैसे और लोग जुड़ने लगते हैं,

it's less risky.

जोखिम कम हो जाता है.

So those that were sitting on the fence before

तो जो लोग इसे दूर से ताक रहे थे, उनके पास दूर रहने की अब कोई वजह नहीं बचती.

now have no reason not to.

They won't stand out, they won't be ridiculed,

वो अलग-थलग पड़ना नहीं चाहेंगे.

वो खिल्ली उड़ाया जाना भी नहीं चाहेंगे.

but they will be part of the in-crowd if they hurry.

पर अगर वो जल्दी करें, तो नज़र में चढ़ चुकी इस भीड़ का हिस्सा बन सकते हैं.

(Laughter)

So, over the next minute,

तो अब अगले ही पल

you'll see all of those that prefer to stick with the crowd

आप उन लोगों को जुड़ते देख सकते हैं जो भीड़ के साथ ही चलना चाहेंगे

because eventually they would be ridiculed for not joining in.

ताकि कोई उनका इसलिए मज़ाक न बना सके कि

वो इसमें शामिल नहीं हुए,

And that's how you make a movement.

और इस तरह एक आंदोलन आकार लेता है.

But let's recap some lessons from this.

चलिए इससे मिले कुछ सबक हम फिर से देखें.

So first, if you are the type,

तो पहले, अगर आप उस तरह के हैं,

like the shirtless dancing guy that is standing alone,

मतलब बिना कमीज़ के अकेले नाचते हुए उस शख्स की तरह के,

remember the importance of nurturing your first few followers as equals

तो अपने शुरुआती अनुयायियों से

समानता का व्यवहार रखने का महत्व याद रखिए

so it's clearly about the movement, not you.

ताकि मुहिम ही मुद्दा बने, आप नहीं.

Okay, but we might have missed the real lesson here.

The biggest lesson, if you noticed --

सबसे बड़ी सीख, अगर आपने ध्यान दिया हो --

did you catch it? --

क्या आप समझ पाए -- वो ये है कि नेतृत्व को

is that leadership is over-glorified.

अति महिमा-मण्डित किया जाता है,

Yes, it was the shirtless guy who was first,

हाँ, सच है कि बिना कमीज़ वाले शख्स ने शुरुआत की थी,

और उसे इसका पूरा श्रेय भी मिलेगा,

and he'll get all the credit,

but it was really the first follower

पर असल में वो पहला अनुयायी था

that transformed the lone nut into a leader.

जिसने एक अकेले सनकी को नेता में तब्दील कर दिया.

So, as we're told that we should all be leaders,

याने अगर हमें ये कहा जाए कि हम में से हर किसी को नेता बनना है,

तो वास्तव में ये तरीक़ा कारगर नहीं होगा.

that would be really ineffective.

If you really care about starting a movement,

अगर सच में आप किसी विषय पर आंदोलन छेड़ना चाहते हैं,

तो आप में पीछे चलने की

have the courage to follow and show others how to follow.

और दूसरों को अनुसरण करना सिखाने की काबिलियत होनी चाहिए.

And when you find a lone nut doing something great,

और अगर आपको कभी कोई सनकी कुछ अद्भुत करता दिख जाए,

have the guts to be the first one to stand up and join in.

तो आगे बढ़ कर उसका साथ देने में
