Imagine a big explosion as you climb through 3,000 ft.

Well, I had a unique seat that day.

I was sitting in 1D.

I was the only one who could talk to the flight attendants.

So I looked at them right away,

The pilot had already turned the plane around,

and we weren't that far.

You could see Manhattan.

Two minutes later,

three things happened at the same time.

The pilot lines up the plane with the Hudson River.

That's usually not the route.

He turns off the engines.

Now, imagine being in a plane with no sound.

And then he says three words.

လေယာဉ်မှူးဟာ စကား ၃ လုံးကို ပြောလိုက်တယ်

The most unemotional three words I've ever heard.

ကျွန်တော် ကြားဖူးတဲ့ ခံစားချက်မရှိတဲ့ စကား ၃ လုံး

He says, "Brace for impact."

သူပြောတယ် "အရေးပေါ်အတွက်ပြင်ဆင်ထားပါ"

I didn't have to talk to the flight attendant anymore.

ကျွန်တော် လေယာဉ်မယ်ကို နောက်ထပ် ပြောဖို့ မလိုတော့ဘူး

(Laughter)

I could see in her eyes, it was terror.

ကျွန်တော် သူမရဲ့မျက်လုံးထဲမှာ အကြောက်တရားကိုမြင်ခဲ့တယ်

Life was over.

ဘဝဟာ အဆုံးသတ်သွားခဲ့ပြီ

Now I want to share with you three things I learned about myself that day.

ကျွန်တော် အဲဒီနေ့က သင်ခန်းစာရခဲ့တဲ့ အရာ ၃ ခုအကြောင်း ခင်ဗျားတို့ကိုအခုမျှဝေချင်တယ်

I learned that it all changes in an instant.

ခဏအတွင်း အရာအားလုံး ပြောင်းလဲသွားနိုင်တာကို သိခဲ့ရတယ်။

We have this bucket list,

ကျွန်တော်တို့မှာ မသေဆုံးခင် လုပ်ခဲ့ချင်တဲ့အရာတွေရှိကြတယ်

we have these things we want to do in life,

and I thought about all the people I wanted to reach out to that I didn't,

ကျွန်တော် ရောက်ရှိချင်ပေမဲ့ မရောက် ဖြစ်ခဲ့တဲ့ လူတွေအားလုံးကို တွေးမိခဲ့တယ်

all the fences I wanted to mend,

ကျွန်တော် ပြန်ပြင်ချင်ခဲ့တဲ့ ခြံစည်းရိုးတွေ

all the experiences I wanted to have and I never did.

ကျွန်တော် ရချင်ပေမဲ့ ဘယ်တော့မှ မရခဲ့တဲ့ အတွေ့အကြုံတွေ

As I thought about that later on,

ကျွန်တော် ဒါတွေကိုတွေးရင်းနဲ့ နောက်ကျတော့

I came up with a saying,

အဆိုတစ်ခုကို တွေးမိခဲ့တယ်။

which is, "I collect bad wines."

"ကျွန်တော် မကောင်းတဲ့ဝိုင်တွေကို စုဆောင်းခဲ့မိတယ်" ဘာလို့လဲဆိုတော့

Because if the wine is ready and the person is there, I'm opening it.

တကယ်လို့ လူက ဝိုင်သောက်ဖို့ အဆင်သင့်ဖြစ်ရင် ဝိုင်ကို ဖွင့်ရလိမ့်မယ်

I no longer want to postpone anything in life.

ကျွန်တော်ဘဝမှာ နောက်ထပ် ဘယ်အရာမှ မရွေ့ဆိုင်းချင်တော့ဘူး

And that urgency, that purpose, has really changed my life.

ဒီလိုအရေးပေါ်ဖြစ်ချိန် ဒီအသိတရား ဟာ ကျွန်တော့်ဘဝကို ပြောင်းလဲခဲ့တယ်

The second thing I learned that day --

အဲဒီနေ့က ကျွန်တော် သိခဲ့တဲ့ ဒုတိယအချက်ကတော့

and this is as we clear the George Washington Bridge,

George Washington တံတားကို လွတ်အောင် ကျော်လာချိန်

which was by not a lot --

အများကြီးတော့ မလွတ်ဘူးဗျ

I thought about, wow, I really feel one real regret.

ကျွန်တော်တွေးခဲ့တယ်"အိုး" ကျွန်တော် စစ်မှန်တဲ့ နောင်တတစ်ခုကို ရခဲ့တယ်

I've lived a good life.

ကောင်းစွာ အသက်ရှင်ခဲ့ပြီးပြီ

In my own humanity and mistakes,

ကိုယ်ပိုင် လူ့သဘာဝမှုနဲ့ အမှားတွေထဲမှာ

I've tried to get better at everything I tried.

ကြိုးစားခဲ့တဲ့ အရာတိုင်းကို ပိုကောင်းအောင် ကြိုးစားခဲ့တယ်

But in my humanity, I also allow my ego to get in.

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကျွန်တော့ရဲ့ လူ့သဘာဝမှာ အတ္တတွေကို ဝင်ခွင့်ပြုခဲ့တယ်

And I regretted the time I wasted on things that did not matter

ကျွန်တော် အရေးပါတဲ့လူတွေနဲ့ အရေးမပါတဲ့အရာ အပေါ် အချိန်ဖြုန်းခဲ့တာကို နောင်တရခဲ့တယ်

with people that matter.

And I thought about my relationship with my wife,

ကျွန်တော့ ဇနီး သူငယ်ချင်းတွေ လူတွေနဲ့ ဆက်ဆံရေးကို တွေးခဲ့တယ်

with my friends, with people.

And after, as I reflected on that,

ကျွန်တော် ဒါတွေကို ပြန်တွေးကြည့်ရင်းနဲ့

I decided to eliminate negative energy from my life.

မကောင်းတဲ့အရာတွေကို ဘဝကနေ ဖယ်ထုတ်ဖို့ ဆုံးဖြတ်ခဲ့တယ်။

It's not perfect, but it's a lot better.

ဒါဟာမပြည့်စုံပါဘူး ဒါပေမဲ့ အရင်ကထက်ပိုကောင်းပါတယ်

I've not had a fight with my wife in two years.

ကျွန်တော် နှစ်နှစ်အတွင်း ဇနီးနဲ့ ရန်မဖြစ်ခဲ့ဖူးဘူး။

It feels great.

ကျွန်တော် အဆင်ပြေတယ်။

I no longer try to be right;

ကျွန်တော် နောက်ထပ် မှန်ကန်ဖို့ မကြိုးစားတော့ဘူး

I choose to be happy.

The third thing I learned --

and this is as your mental clock starts going, "15, 14, 13."

သင့်ရဲ့ အသိစိတ်နာရီဟာ စတင်လည်ပတ်နေချိန်"၁၅၊၁၄၊၁၃"

You can see the water coming.

သင် ရေဝင်လာတာကို မြင်နိုင်တယ် ကျွန်တော်ပြောနေတယ်"ပေါက်ကွဲလိုက်တော့"

I'm saying, "Please blow up."

I don't want this thing to break in 20 pieces

သတင်းကားတွေထဲမှာမြင်ဖူးသလို ကျွန်တော် ဒီအရာကို အပိုင်း၂၀လောက် မကျိုးပဲ့စေချင်ဘူး

like you've seen in those documentaries.

And as we're coming down,

ကျွန်တော်တို့ မြေပြင်ပေါ် ရောက်တဲ့အချိန်မှာ

I had a sense of, wow, dying is not scary.

ကျွန်တော် နားလည်လိုက်တယ်။"အိုး" သေဆုံးခြင်းဟာ ကြောက်စရာမဟုတ်ဘူး"

It's almost like we've been preparing for it our whole lives.

ကျွန်တော်တို့ဘဝမှာ ဒီအရာအတွက် ပြင်ဆင်နေကြတာနဲ့ အတူတူပဲ

But it was very sad.

ဒါပေမဲ့ အရမ်းဝမ်းနည်းတယ်

I didn't want to go; I love my life.

မထွက်သွားချင်ဘူး။ ကျွန်တော့်ဘဝကို ချစ်တယ်

And that sadness really framed in one thought,

ဒီဝမ်းနည်းမှုဟာ အတွေးတစ်ခုကိုပဲ အာရုံရောက်နေတယ်

which is, I only wish for one thing.

ကျွန်တော် ဒီအရာတစ်ခုကိုပဲ မျှော်လင့်တာပါ။

I only wish I could see my kids grow up.

ကျွန်တော့ ကလေးတွေ ကြီးပြင်းတာကိုပဲ မြင်ချင်တာပါ

About a month later, I was at a performance by my daughter --

တစ်လကြာတော့ ကျွန်တော့် သမီးရဲ့ ဖျော်‌ဖြေရေးပွဲမှာ ရှိနေခဲ့တယ်

first-grader, not much artistic talent --

ပထမတန်းကျောင်းသူပါ အနုပညာပါရမီတွေ သိပ်မရှိပါဘူး

(Laughter)

Yet!

ဒါပေမည့်လည်း

(Laughter)

And I'm bawling, I'm crying, like a little kid.

ကျွန်တော် ကလေးလေး တစ်ယောက်လို ကုန်းအော်ပြီး ငိုနေတယ်။

And it made all the sense in the world to me.

ဒါဟာ ကျွန်တော့်အတွက် အရမ်းအဓိပ္ပာယ်ရှိတယ်

I realized at that point, by connecting those two dots,

ဒီအချက်နှစ်ခုကို ချိတ်ဆက်ကြည့်ခြင်းဖြင့် ကျွန်တော် သဘောပေါက်သွားတယ်

that the only thing that matters in my life

ကျွန်တော့်ဘဝမှာ အရေးကြီးတဲ့ တစ်ခုတည်းသော အရာဟာ

is being a great dad.

ဖခင်ကောင်း ဖြစ်ဖို့ပါပဲ။

Above all, above all,

အားလုံးရဲ့အထက် အားလုံးရဲ့အထက်မှာ

the only goal I have in life is to be a good dad.

ကျွန်တော့ရဲ့ဘဝပန်းတိုင်ဟာ ဖခင်ကောင်း ဖြစ်ဖို့ပါ

I was given the gift of a miracle,

ကျွန်တော် ထိုနေ့က မသေခဲ့တဲ့ အံ့ဖွယ်လက်ဆောင်ကို ရခဲ့တယ်

of not dying that day.

I was given another gift,

အခြားလက်ဆောင်တစ်ခုကိုလည်း ရခဲ့တယ်။

which was to be able to see into the future

ဒါကတော့ အနာဂတ်ကို မြင်ခွင့်ရခဲ့ပြီး ပြန်လာ ပြီးတော့ ကွဲပြားအောင် နေထိုင်ဖို့ပါပဲ

and come back

and live differently.

I challenge you guys that are flying today,

ဒီနေ့ ပျံသန်းနေတဲ့ ခင်ဗျားတို့ကို ကျွန်တော် စိန်ခေါ်ပါတယ်

imagine the same thing happens on your plane --

ခင်ဗျားတို့ လေယာဉ်မှာ တူညီတဲ့ အဖြစ်အပျက်ကို တွေးကြည့်ပါ

and please don't --

ကျေးဇူးပြု၍ မဖြစ်ပါစေနဲ့။

but imagine, and how would you change?

ဒါပေမယ့် စိတ်ကူးကြည့်ပါ။ ခင်ဗျား ဘယ်လိုပြောင်းလဲမှာလဲ။

What would you get done

ခင်ဗျားတို့ အမြဲ ရှိနေမယ်ဆိုတဲ့အတွေးနဲ့

that you're waiting to get done because you think you'll be here forever?

ပြီးမြောက်ဖို့စောင့်နေတဲ့ အရာတွေကို ဘယ်လိုပြီးအောင် လုပ်မှာလဲ

How would you change your relationships

ခင်ဗျားရဲ့ ဆက်ဆံရေး သူ့တို့အပေါ် မကောင်းတဲ့ ခံစားချက်ကို ဘယ်လိုပြောင်းလဲမလဲ

and the negative energy in them?

And more than anything, are you being the best parent you can?

ဒါတွေထက် ပိုအရေးကြီးတာက သင် အကောင်းဆုံးမိဘ တစ်ယောက်ဖြစ်နေပြီလား
