Hi. I'm here to talk to you about the importance of

नमस्ते, मैं यहाँ आपसे प्रशंसा, आभार और धन्यवाद के

praise, admiration and thank you,

महत्व के बारे में बातें करने आयी हूँ,

and having it be specific and genuine.

और इसे विशिष्ट और वास्तविक रखेंगे |

And the way I got interested in this was,

और जिस तरह इसमें मेरे रूचि बढ़ी वो था,

I noticed in myself, when I was growing up,

मैंने खुद में देखा जब मैं बड़ी हो रही थी,

and until about a few years ago,

और कुछ सालो पहले तक,

that I would want to say thank you to someone,

कि मैं किसी को धन्यवाद कहना चाहती थी,

I would want to praise them,

मैं उनकी प्रंशसा करना चाहती थी,

I would want to take in their praise of me

मैं उनसे अपनी प्रशंसा सुनना चाहती थी

and I'd just stop it.

और वहीँ रुक गयी होती |

And I asked myself, why?

और मैंने खुद से पूछा, क्यों?

I felt shy, I felt embarrassed.

मुझे शर्मिंदगी महसूस हुई |

And then my question became,

और फिर मेरा सवाल बन गया,

am I the only one who does this?

क्या मैं अकेली हूँ जो ये करती है?

So, I decided to investigate.

तो मैंने जानने की ठानी |

I'm fortunate enough to work in the rehab facility,

मैं भाग्यशाली थी कि मैंने पुनर्वसन केंद्र में काम किया,

so I get to see people who are facing life and death with addiction.

मुझे उन लोगो को जानने का मौका मिला जिनका जीवन और मृत्यु नशे की जकड़ में था |

And sometimes it comes down to something as simple as,

their core wound is their father died without ever saying he's proud of them.

But then, they hear from all the family and friends

that the father told everybody else that he was proud of him,

but he never told the son.

It's because he didn't know that his son needed to hear it.

So my question is, why don't we ask for the things that we need?

तो मेरा सवाल है, हम उन चीजों के लिए क्यों नही पूछते जो हमे चाहिए?

I know a gentleman, married for 25 years,

मैं एक सज्जन को जानती हूँ जो 25 सालो से शादीशुदा है

who's longing to hear his wife say,

जो तड़प रहे है अपनी पत्नी से सुनने के लिए,

"Thank you for being the breadwinner, so I can stay home with the kids,"

"धन्यवाद घर के आजीविका चलने के लिए जिससे मैं बच्चो के साथ घर में रह सकी"

but won't ask.

लेकिन पूछेंगे नहीं |

I know a woman who's good at this.

मैं एक महिला को जानती हूँ जो इसमें अच्छी है |

She, once a week, meets with her husband and says,

वह, हफ्ते में एक बार, अपने पति से मिल कर कहती है,

"I'd really like you to thank me for all these things I did in the house and with the kids."

And he goes, "Oh, this is great, this is great."

और वो शुरू हो जाते है "यह बढ़िया है, यह बढ़िया है"

And praise really does have to be genuine,

और प्रशंसा सच में वास्तविक होनी चाहिए,

but she takes responsibility for that.

लेकिन वो उसकी जिम्मेदारी लेती है |

And a friend of mine, April, who I've had since kindergarten,

और मेरे एक मित्र, अप्रिल, जिन्हें में नर्सरी से जानती हूँ,

she thanks her children for doing their chores.

वो बच्चों को उनका काम करने के लिए धन्यवाद करती है |

And she said, "Why wouldn't I thank it, even though they're supposed to do it?"

और कहती है "मैं क्यों ना धन्यवाद करू, भले ही उन्हें ये करना ही है ? "

So, the question is, why was I blocking it?

तो सवाल है कि मैं क्यों इसे रोक रही थी?

Why were other people blocking it?

क्यों दुसरे लोग इसे रोक रहे थे ?

Why can I say, "I'll take my steak medium rare,

I need size six shoes," but I won't say,

"Would you praise me this way?"

And it's because I'm giving you critical data about me.

I'm telling you where I'm insecure.

मैं आपको बता रही हूँ कि मैं कहाँ असुरक्षित हूँ |

I'm telling you where I need your help.

मैं आपको बता रही हूँ कि मुझे कहाँ आपकी मदद चाहिए |

And I'm treating you, my inner circle,

और आपसे ऐसे बर्ताव कर रही हूँ, मेरे अंदुरनी क्षेत्र में,

like you're the enemy.

जैसे आप मेरे दुश्मन है |

Because what can you do with that data?

क्युंकि आप मेरे में जान कर क्या कर सकते हैं?

You could neglect me.

आप मेरी उपेक्षा कर सकते हैं |

You could abuse it.

आप इसका दुरूपयोग कर सकते हैं |

Or you could actually meet my need.

या असल में आप मेरी जरूरत पूरी कर सकते हैं |

And I took my bike into the bike store-- I love this --

और मैं अपनी सायकल को दुकान ले गयी - मुझे ये अच्छा लगा --

same bike, and they'd do something called "truing" the wheels.

वही सायकल, और वहां पर वो चक्को को सीधा करते हैं |

The guy said, "You know, when you true the wheels,

उस आदमी ने कहा "क्या आप जानती है, चक्को को कब सीधा करते है "

it's going to make the bike so much better."

यह सायकल को पहले काफी बेहतर बनायेगा"

I get the same bike back,

मैंने वही सायकल वापस ली,

and they've taken all the little warps out of those same wheels

और उन्होंने चक्को के छोटे मोटे टेड़ेपन को ठीक कर दिया

I've had for two and a half years, and my bike is like new.

यह सायकल ठाई साल पुरानी थी, और अब नयी के समान हो गयी |

So, I'm going to challenge all of you.

तो मैं आप सबको चुनौती दूंगी |

I want you to true your wheels:

मैं चाहती हूँ आप अपने चक्को को सीधा करे:

be honest about the praise that you need to hear.

और ईमानदार रहे उस प्रशंसा के बारे में जो आप सुनना चाहता हैं |

What do you need to hear? Go home to your wife --

आप क्या सुनना चाहते है? घर में पत्नी के पास जाइये,

go ask her, what does she need?

उससे पूछिए, उसे क्या चाहिए ?

Go home to your husband -- what does he need?

घर में अपने पति के पास जाइये -- उसे क्या चाहिए?

Go home and ask those questions, and then help the people around you.

घर जाइये और ये सवाल पूछिए और फिर अपने आसपास के लोगो की मदद कीजिये |

And it's simple.

और यह आसान है |

And why should we care about this?

और हम इसकी चिंता क्यों करे?

We talk about world peace.

हम विश्व शांति की बाते करते हैं |

How can we have world peace with different cultures, different languages?

हम विभिन्न संस्कृतियों और विभिन्न भाषाओ के साथ विश्व में कैसे शांति हो सकती है?

I think it starts household by household, under the same roof.

मैं सोचती हूँ यह घर से शुरू होती है, एक ही छत के नीचे |

So, let's make it right in our own backyard.

And I want to thank all of you in the audience
