ကျွန်မတို့အနားမှာ ရှိတဲ့လူတွေရဲ့ ဘဝတွေ တိုးတက်ဖို့ကူညီပေးနိုင်တဲ့

There are a lot of ways the people around us

can help improve our lives.

နည်းလမ်းတွေ အများကြီးရှိပါတယ်။

We don't bump into every neighbor,

အိမ်နီးနာချင်းတိုင်းနဲ့ မကြုံဆုံကြဘူးလေ။

so a lot of wisdom never gets passed on,

ဒါကြောင့် အသိပညာများစွာကို လက်ဆင့်ကမ်းမပေးနိုင်ပေမဲ့

though we do share the same public spaces.

ကျွန်မတို့တွေဟာ တူညီတဲ့အများနဲ့ဆိုင်တဲ့ နေရာတွေကိုတော့ မျှသုံးကြပါတယ်။

So over the past few years, I've tried ways to share more

ဒီတော့ လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့နှစ်အနည်းငယ်က ကျွန်မရဲ့အိမ်နီးနာချင်းတွေနဲ့

with my neighbors in public space,

အများနဲ့ဆိုင်တဲ့နေရာမှာ ပိုပြီး မျှသုံးဖို့ ရိုးစင်းတဲ့ ကိရိယာတွေဖြစ်တဲ့

using simple tools like stickers, stencils and chalk.

စတစ်ကာတွေ၊ ပန်းဖောက်ပြားတွေ၊ မြေဖြူတွေကိုသုံးပြီး နည်းလမ်းတွေ ကြိုးစားထားပါတယ်။

ဒီပရောဂျက်တွေက ကျွန်မမှာရှိခဲ့တဲ့ မေးခွန်းတွေကနေလာတာပါ။

And these projects came from questions I had, like:

ကျွန်မအိမ်နီးနားချင်းတွေ တိုက်ခန်းအတွက် ဘယ်လောက်ပေးရလဲ ဆိုတာမျိုးပေါ့။

How much are my neighbors paying for their apartments?

(Laughter)

How can we lend and borrow more things,

without knocking on each other's doors at a bad time?

How can we share more memories of our abandoned buildings,

ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ စွန့်ပစ်ထားတဲ့ အဆောက်အအုံတွေရဲ့

အမှတ်တရတွေကို ဘယ်လိုများပိုပြီးမျှဝေနိုင်လဲ၊

and gain a better understanding of our landscape?

How can we share more of our hopes for our vacant storefronts,

Now, I live in New Orleans,

and I am in love with New Orleans.

My soul is always soothed by the giant live oak trees,

ကျွန်မ စိတ်နှလုံးကို ချော့သိပ်နေတာက

နှစ်ရာနဲ့ချီနေပြီးဖြစ်တဲ့ ရှင်သန်နေတဲ့ ဧရာမ ဝက်သစ်ချပင်ကြီးတွေ၊

shading lovers, drunks and dreamers for hundreds of years,

and I trust a city that always makes way for music.

I feel like every time someone sneezes,

New Orleans has a parade.

The city has some of the most beautiful architecture in the world,

but it also has one of the highest amounts of abandoned properties in America.

I live near this house,

ကျွန်မက အဲဒီလိုအိမ်နားမှာ နေတာပါ။ နောက်ပြီးစဉ်းစားမိတာက

and I thought about how I could make it a nicer space for my neighborhood,

ဒါကို ပတ်ဝန်းကျင်အတွက် ပိုကောင်းတဲ့နေရာကို ဘယ်လိုများ လုပ်နိုင်မလဲဆိုတာပါ။

and I also thought about something that changed my life forever.

In 2009, I lost someone I loved very much.

၂၀၀၉ မှာ ကျွန်မအရမ်းအမြတ်နိုးတဲ့ သူတစ်ယောက် ဆုံသွားရှာပါတယ်။

Her name was Joan, and she was a mother to me.

သူမရဲ့နာမည်က ဂျုန်းပါ။ ကျွန်မရဲ့အမေလေ။

And her death was sudden and unexpected.

သူမဟာ ရုတ်တရက်နဲ့ မျှော်လင့်မထားပဲ သေဆုံးသွားခဲ့တာပါ။

And I thought about death a lot.

ကျွန်မဟာ သေခြင်းတရား အကြောင်းကို တော်တော်များများတွေးမိဖူးတယ်။

And ... this made me feel deep gratitude for the time I've had.

ဒါကကျွန်မကို

ကျွန်မပိုင်ဆိုင်ထားတဲ့ အချိန်ကာလအတွက် ၊

And ... brought clarity to the things that are meaningful to my life now.

အခုအချိန်မှာ

ကျွန်မဘဝအတွက် အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရှိတဲ့အရာတွေကို ကြည်လင်မှု ယူဆောင်ပေးလာတဲ့အတွက်

နက်ရှိုင်းတဲ့ ကျေးဇူးတရားကို ခံစားမိစေပါတယ်။

But I struggle to maintain this perspective in my daily life.

ဒါပေမဲ့ နေ့စဉ်ဘဝမှာ ဒီအမြင်ကိုဆုပ်ကိုင်ထားဖို့ အပတ်တကုတ် အားထုတ်ပါတယ်။

I feel like it's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day,

နေ့စဉ်ကိစ္စတွေမှာ ပါဝင်ပတ်သက်ဖို့ လွယ်ပြီး ကိုယ့်အတွက် တကယ်အရေးပါတာကို

and forget what really matters to you.

မေ့သွားတတ်တယ်လို့ ခံစားမိပါတယ်။

So with help from old and new friends,

ဒီလိုနဲ့ မိတ်ဆွေဟောင်း၊ မိတ်ဆွေသစ်တွေနဲ့အတူ

I turned the side of this abandoned house into a giant chalkboard,

စွန့်ပစ်ခံထားရတဲ့ အိမ်တစ်လုံးရဲ့ ဘေးနံရံကို အင်မတန်ကြီးမားတဲ့

သင်ပုန်းကြီးတစ်ခုအဖြစ် ပြောင်းလိုက်ပြီး ရေးဖြည့်ပေးဖို့ ကွက်လပ်နေရာဖြင့်

and stenciled it with a fill-in-the-blank sentence:

အမွမ်းအပြောက် ပုံဖေါ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

"Before I die, I want to ..."

"ငါမသေခင်၊ လုပ်ချင်တာက....."

So anyone walking by can pick up a piece of chalk,

ဒါကြောင့် ဖြတ်လျှောက်လာတဲ့သူတိုင်း မြေဖြူတစ်ချောင်းကောက်ယူပြီး

reflect on their life,

သူတိုဘဝကို ရောင်ပြန်ဟပ်နိုင်ပါတယ်၊ သူတို့ရဲ့ကိုယ်ပိုင်ပြင်းပြတဲ့ဆန္ဒကို

and share their personal aspirations in public space.

အများသုံးနေရာမှာ မျှဝေနိုင်ပါတယ်။

I didn't know what to expect from this experiment,

ဒီစမ်းသပ်ချက်ကနေ ဘာကိုမျှော်လင့်ရမယ် ဆိုတာမသိခဲ့ပါဘူး။

but by the next day, the wall was entirely filled out,

ဒါပေမဲ့ နောက်နေ့မှာတော့ နံရံတစ်ခုလုံးဖြည့်ထားပြီး

ဆက်ပြီး တိုးတိုးလာပါတယ်။

and it kept growing.

ဒီနံရံပေါ်မှာ လူတွေရေးထားကြတဲ့ အကြောင်းအရာ

And I'd like to share a few things that people wrote on this wall.

အနည်းငယ်ကို မျှ​ဝေချင်ပါတယ်။

"Before I die, I want to be tried for piracy."

မသေခင်မှာ မူပိုင်ခွင့်ထိပါးမှုနဲ့ တရားစွဲခံချင်တယ်။ (ရယ်သံများ)

မသေခင်မှာ ကမ္ဘာ့ရက်သတ်မျဉ်းကို ခွစီးချင်ပါတယ်။

"Before I die, I want to straddle the International Dateline."

"Before I die, I want to sing for millions."

မသေခင်မှာ ပြည်သူ သန်းချီတို့အတွက် သီချင်းဆိုချင်တယ်။

မသေခင်မှာ သစ်ပင်တစ်ပင် စိုက်ချင်တယ်။

"Before I die, I want to plant a tree."

"Before I die, I want to live off the grid."

မသေခင်မှာ အများသုံးဝန်ဆောင်မှုတွေကို မမှီခိုချင်ပါ။

"Before I die, I want to hold her one more time."

So this neglected space became a constructive one,

and people's hopes and dreams made me laugh out loud, tear up,

သူတို့တွေရဲ့မျှော်လင့်ချက်တွေ၊ အိပ်မက်တွေက ကျွန်မကို

ရယ်မောစေ၊ မျက်ရည်ဝဲစေပါတယ်။

ကျွန်မရဲ့ခက်ခဲကြမ်းတမ်းတဲ့အချိန် တွေမှာ သူတို့က ကျွန်မကိုဖြေသိမ့်ပေးခဲ့ပါတယ်။

and they consoled me during my own tough times.

It's about knowing you're not alone;

ဒါဟာ သင်တစ်ယောက်တည်းရှိနေတာ မဟုတ်ဘူး ဆိုတာ သိရုံတင်မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

it's about understanding our neighbors in new and enlightening ways;

သင့်ပတ်ဝန်းကျင်ကို အသစ်အနေနဲ့ရော၊ အသိအမြင်ကြွယ်ဝလာစေတဲ့

နည်းလမ်းတွေနဲ့ပါ နားလည်စေခြင်းပါ။

it's about making space for reflection and contemplation,

ဒါဟာ အလေးအနက် ဆင်ခြင်သုံးသပ်ဖို့ အတွက် နေရာဖန်တီးခြင်းနဲ့

and remembering what really matters most to us as we grow and change.

ကျွန်မတို့တွေ ကြီးထွားပြောင်းလဲလာတာနဲ့အမျှ ဘယ်အရာက ကိုယ့်အတွက်

တကယ် အရေးပါဆုံးလဲဆိုတာကို အမှတ်ရစေခြင်းပါ။

I made this last year,

and started receiving hundreds of messages from passionate people

နံရံတစ်ခုဖန်တီးချင်တဲ့ ထက်သန်တဲ့လူတွေဆီက

who wanted to make a wall with their community.

ရာနဲ့ချီတဲ့ သတင်းစကားတွေ ရရှိနေပါတယ်။

So, my civic center colleagues and I made a tool kit,

ဒါကြောင့် ကျွန်မနဲ့ စည်ပင်သာယာရုံးမှ လုပ်ဖော်ကိုင်ဖက်တွေက ကိရိယာပုံးကို ဖန်တီးခဲ့တယ်။

and now walls have been made in countries around the world,

အခုဆိုရင် ကမ္ဘာတစ်လွှားကနိုင်ငံတွေ

including Kazakhstan,

ကာဇက်စတန်၊ တောင်အာဖရိက၊

South Africa,

Australia,

ဩစတြေးလျ၊ အာဂျင်တီနာ အပါအဝင် အခြားနိုင်ငံတွေမှာ

Argentina, and beyond.

နံရံတွေဖန်တီး လာကြပါပြီ။

Together, we've shown how powerful our public spaces can be

အတူစုပေါင်းပြီး ထုတ်ဖော်ဖွင့်ဟဖို့ အခွင့်အရေးရပြီး

if we're given the opportunity to have a voice,

အချင်းချင်းပိုပြီးမျှဝေလို့ရမယ်ဆိုရင် ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ အများသုံးနေရာတွေဟာ

and share more with one another.

ဘယ်လို အင်အားကြီးမားတယ်ဆိုတာကို ပြသနိုင်ပါပြီ။

Two of the most valuable things we have

ကျွန်မတို့မှာရှိတဲ့ တန်ဖိုးအရှိဆုံး အရာတွေထဲက ၂ခုကတော့ အချိန်နဲ့

are time, and our relationships with other people.

တစ်ခြားလူတွေ့နဲ့ ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ဆက်ဆံရေးပါ။

In our age of increasing distractions,

အာရုံနောက်စရာတွေ တိုးတိုးလားနေတဲ့ ကျွန်မတို့ခေတ်မှာ

ခါတိုင်းထက်ပိုပြီး အရေးကြီးတာက သဘောထားအမြင်ကို ဆုပ်ကိုင်ပြီး ဘဝဟာတိုတောင်းပြီး

it's more important than ever to find ways to maintain perspective,

အထိမခံဘူးဆိုတာကို သတိရဖို့ နည်းလမ်းတွေရှာဖို့ပါ။

and remember that life is brief and tender.

Death is something that we're often discouraged to talk about,

သေခြင်းတရားဆိုတာ ကျွန်မတို့ မကြာခဏဆိုသလို

ပြောဖို့ ဒါမှမဟုတ် တွေးကြည့်ဖို့တောင် ရွံ့နေတဲ့အရာပါ။

or even think about,

but I've realized that preparing for death

is one of the most empowering things you can do.

သင်လုပ်နိုင်တာတွေထဲက အစွမ်းသတ္တိ အပေးနိုင်ဆုံးတစ်ခုပါ။

Thinking about death clarifies your life.

သေခြင်းအကြောင်းကို စဉ်းစားခြင်းဟာ သင့်ဘဝကို ရှင်းလင်းလွယ်ကူစေပါတယ်။

Our shared spaces can better reflect what matters to us,

as individuals and as a community,

the people around us can not only help us make better places,

ကူညီပေးနိုင်ရုံမက ပိုမိုကောင်းမွန်တဲ့ဘဝတွေကို ဦးတည်ရာမှာ အထောက်အကူပြုပါတယ်။

they can help us lead better lives.
