You Can Translate YouTube Videos Subtitle English to Other Languages!

Hey guys! This is a special video where I'm going to show you a cool feature on YouTube,

پێویسته!

سلاو! له م ڤیدیۆ تایبه ته دا شتێكی سه رسورهێنه رتان نیشان ده یه م!

and ask you if you have time to help other people

who speak your native language learn English.

ئه و كه سانه ی به زمانه كه ت قسه ده كه ن فێری ئینگلیزی ببن.

Some of you may know this already but YouTube has a feature that allows anyone,

هه ندێك له ئێوه له وانه یه زانیبێتی! به ڵام یوتیوب تایبه ت مه ندییه كی هه یه كه هه موو كه س بتوانێت

including you, to submit a translation of the subtitles.

له وانیش تۆ!! بۆ ژێرنووس كردن

If you've used my subtitles, then you know that I create

ئه گه ر تۆ ژێرنووس كراوه كانی منت به كارهێنابێت پاشان ده زانیت من دروستی ده كه م

English subtitles for every video.

ژێرنووسی ئینگلیزی بۆ هه موو ڤیدیۆكان.

First, let me show you some of these features.

سه ره تا، با هه ندێك له و تایبه ت مه ندیانه ت نیشان بده م.

Here's my video on how to make the AH as in Bat vowel.

ئه مه ڤیدیۆیه كمه له سه ر (ئاه) هه روه ك له پیتی بزوێنی شه مشه مه كوێره.

And if you go over here, you can press the CC button to turn the subtitles off and on.

وه ئه گه ر بچیته سه ر ئێره، ئه توانیت كلیك له (سی سی) بكه یت بۆ هه لكردنی ژێرنووس یان كوژاندنه وه ی.

But if you click this gear for settings,

،به لام ئه گه ر كلیك له سه ر ئه م گێره بكه یت

you can then click on subtitles

ئه توانیت دواتر كلیك له سه ر ژێرنووس بكه یت.

and you can see that there are four different languages here: the English, which I made

تۆ لێره ده توانیت ببینیت كه چوار زمانی جیاواز هه یه: ئینگلیزی، كه من كردم

and I put -RE here, so you know that that's something I made.

و من لێره دام نا (ئاڕ ئی)، كه واته تۆ ده زانیت كه ئه وه شتێكه من كردوومه.

It's not just the automatic captions.

ئه مه ته نها سه ردێرێكی ئۆتۆماتیكی نییه.

Then someone has contributed Portuguese,

پاشان كه سێكی پورتوگالی به شداری كردبێت،

Russian, and Vietnamese caption file as well.

رووسی، و ڤێت نامی هه روه ها فایل.

So you can select which language you would like to see the subtitles in.

كه واته تۆ ده توانیت ئه و زمانه دیاری بكه یت كه به دل ته بۆ بینینی ژێرنووس.

So a great way for you to not only work on your language skills but also help someone else

رێگایه كی مه زن بۆ تۆ نه ك ته نها كار له سه ر كارامه ی زمانت به لام له گه لیدا یارماتی دانی كه سانی تر.

whose English skills might not be as advanced as yours,

كارامه ی ئه و له ئینگلیزی دا له وانه یه وه ك تۆ نه بێت،

is to create a translation of the captions.

ئه وه یه تا وه رگێرانێكی سه ر بابه ته كان دروست بكات.

Let me show you how to do that and how to keep track of them.

با نیشانت بده م كه چۆن واده كه یت، وه چۆن به دوایدا ده چیت.

YouTube has some pretty cool features

یوتیوب تایبه ت مه ندیه كی زۆر جوانی هه یه!

and you may find that this becomes a fun hobby of yours.

و تۆ له وانه یه بیدۆزیته وه كه ئه مه ببێت به ئاره زویه كی خۆشی خۆت.

Let's say you find a video that you want to add captions to.

بابلێین تۆ ڤیدیۆ یه كت دۆزیوه ته وه كه ئه ته وێت ژێرنووسی بكه یت.

This video is where I showed people my wedding photos

ئه م ڤیدیۆیه ئه و شوینه یه كه وێنه ی هاوسه رگیریم نیشانی خه لكی دا.

from several years ago and it doesn't have any contributed caption translations.

چه ند ساڵێك له مه و به ر، و هیچ وه رگێرانێكی له سه ر نه بووه.

So what you can do is you can go click on the Settings button

كه واته چی ئه توانیت بكه یت؟ ئه توانیت كلیك له سه ر سێتینگ بكه یت

and then click on 'subtitles'

پاشان كلیك له سه ر (subtitles) بكه

and then there's an option to add subtitles.

پاشان چه ند ئۆپشنێك هه یه بۆ زیاد كردنی ژێر نووس.

So when you click on that button, it opens another tab.

كاتێك كلیكت له سه ر ئه مه كرد، تابێكی ترت بۆ ده كرێته وه.

To start, you select the language that you want to add.

بۆ ده ست پێكردن، ئه و زمانه هه ڵده بژێریت بۆ زیاد كردنی.

Let's say I'm going to add Spanish subtitles.

بابڵێین من ئه مه وێت ژێرنوسی ئیسپانی زیاد بكه م.

You open it up and then it takes you to the page where you can watch the video

كه كردته وه، له سه ره وه ئه تبات بۆ په یجیك كه ئه توانیت سێری ڤیدیۆكه بكه یت.

and then you also see in the left-hand side here.

و پاشان تۆ ده بینیت له ده سته چه په وه، لێره

The English caption file which I've made and then there's a place for you to translate each caption.

فایلی ژێر نوسس كراوه كانی ئینگلیزی كه كردوومن، وه شوێنێك هه یه كه ئه توانیت ژێرنووس بكه یت.

So I could start typing in Spanish what I wanted to,

بۆیه توانیم ده ست بكه م به نوسینی ئیسپانی، هه ر وه ك ده مه وێت.

what I thought was a good translation for this...

پێم وایه وه رگێرانێكی باش بوو بۆ ئه مه.

and so on, I won't type the whole caption translation here.

هه روه ها هه موو ژێرنووسه كه لێره نانوسم.

But when you're done, you can delete it if you feel like you've messed up and you don't want to save it.

به لام كه ته واو بویت، ئه توانیت بیسریته وه كه هه ستت كردبێت نارێك كردووته و ناته وێت سه یڤی بكه یت.

You can submit if you're done and you're ready

ئه توانیت رازیبیت ئه گه ر ته واو بوویت یان ئاماده بوویت

and if you're not, if you don't have time to finish it all at once,

یان نا، ئه گه ر كاتت نه بوو هه مووی ته واو بكه یت به یه ك جار،

it will save what you've typed into your drafts

ئه و سه یڤی ده كات بۆ ناو ره ش نووسه كه ت

so it automatically saves every time you add something.

كه واته ئۆتۆماتیكی غه زنی ده كات هه ركاتێك شتێك زیاد ده كه یت.

If you want, you can click credit my contribution,

ئه گه ر ویستت ئه توانیت كلیك له سه ر (credit my contribution) بكه یت،

which I believe means that it will link back to you

كه من باوه ر ده كه م بیگه رێنێته وه بۆ تۆ

so that people can know who contributed these awesome translations.

كه وا خه لكی ده زانن كێ ئه م ژێر نووسه شازه ی كردووه.

To keep track of your translations,

بۆ به دواداچونی وه رگێرانه كانت،

you can click on the 'your contributions' tab here in the left bar menu

ده توانیت كلیك بكه یت له سه ر 'your contributions'

and you can see videos that you have submitted

و ئه توانیت ئه و ڤیدیۆیانه ببینیت كه ژێرنووست كردوون

that you're done with and then you can also see your drafts.

كه ته واو بویت لێیان، و ئه توانیت ره شنووسه كانت ببینیت.

So this is where you can come back and edit if you don't have time to finish all at once.

وه ئه مه ئه و شوێنه یه كه ئه توانیت بگه رێیته وه و ده ست كاری بكه یت ئه گه ر كاتت نه بوو هه مووی به یه ك جار ته واو بكه یت.

If not, start one. See what it feels like.

Maybe it's fun and you end up finishing and submitting it.

One of the things I found to be really incredible about YouTube

is that you can create something and put it out there

and end up changing people's lives. It's awesome!

And I have no doubt that the translations on my videos are used.

وه من هیچ گوومانێكم نییه كه وه رگێره كان به كاری دێنن له سه ر ڤیدیۆ كه م.

Maybe some of you have already contributed translations
