Probably a lot of you know the story of the two salesmen

ကုန်သည်နှစ်ဦး အကြောင်းပုံပြင်ကို ခင်ဗျားတို့ အများစု သိကြမှာပါ။

Now, there's a similar situation in the classical music world,

ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတလောက ထဲမှာလည်း အလားတူအခြေအနေမျိုးလို့ ထင်ရတယ်၊

because there are some people who think that classical music is dying.

လူတချို့က ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတဟာ သေနေပြီလို့ထင်ကြတယ်။

And there are some of us who think you ain't seen nothing yet.

တချိန်တည်းမှာ ကျုပ်တို့ ဘာမျှ မတွေ့ရသေး ဘူးလို့ထင်တဲ့ လူတွေလည်း ရှိကြတယ်။

And rather than go into statistics and trends,

စာရင်းဇယားတွေနဲ့ အလားအလာတွေကို လေ့လာမယ့်အစား၊

သံစုံတီးဝိုင်းတွေ အားလုံးလို ပိတ်နေကြတာ ကို ပြောပြမယ့်အစား၊

and tell you about all the orchestras that are closing,

and the record companies that are folding,

I thought we should do an experiment tonight.

Actually, it's not really an experiment, because I know the outcome.

Before we start, I need to do two things.

I see some of you recognize this child.

At that point, they usually give up.

Now, what happened was not maybe what you thought,

which is, he suddenly became passionate, engaged,

involved, got a new teacher, he hit puberty, or whatever it is.

သူဟာ ဆရာသစ်ကို ရှာနိုင်ခဲ့ပြီး ပျိုဖေါ်ဝင်တဲ့ အရွယ်ဖြစ်လာတယ်။

What actually happened was the impulses were reduced.

You see, the first time, he was playing with an impulse on every note.

The nine-year-old put an impulse on every four notes.

I don't know how we got into this position.

I didn't say, "I'm going to move my shoulder over, move my body."

No, the music pushed me over,

which is why I call it one-buttock playing.

It can be the other buttock.

You know, a gentleman was once watching a presentation I was doing,

when I was working with a young pianist.

He was the president of a corporation in Ohio.

I was working with this young pianist, and said,

I moved his body while he was playing.

And suddenly, the music took off. It took flight.

အဲဒါနဲ့ ရုပ်တရက် ဂီတသံစဉ်တွေ လွင့်ပျံ ထွက်လာတော့တယ်။

The audience gasped when they heard the difference.

ပရိသတ်တွေကလည်း အဲဒီ ခြားနားချက်ကို ခံစားမိကြတယ်။

Then I got a letter from this gentleman.

နောက်မှာ ခုနက လူဆီကနေပြီး စာရခဲ့တယ်။

He said, "I was so moved.

"ကျွန်တော် အရမ်းကို အားကျမိခဲ့တယ်။

I went back and I transformed my entire company

ပြန်သွားတာနဲ့ပဲ ကျွန်ုပ်ရဲ့ ကုမ္ပဏီတစ်ခုလုံးကို

into a one-buttock company."

တင်ပါးတစ်ဘက် ကုမ္မဏီအဖြစ် ပြောင်းပစ်လိုက်တယ်။"

Now, the other thing I wanted to do is to tell you about you.

There are 1,600 people, I believe.

My estimation is that probably 45 of you

You adore classical music. Your FM is always on that classical dial.

You have CDs in your car, and you go to the symphony,

your children are playing instruments.

ခင်ဗျားတို့ကလေးတွေက တူရီယာတွေကို တီးမှုတ်နိုင်တယ်။

You can't imagine your life without classical music.

ခင်ဗျားတို့ရဲ့ ဘဝကို ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတ မပါဘဲ စိတ်ကူးမရနိုင်ဘူး။

That's the first group, quite small.

အဲဒါ အတော်လေး နည်းတဲ့ ပထမအုပ်စုပါ။

Then there's another bigger group.

ပြီးတော့ ပိုကြီးတဲ့ အုပ်စုရှိပါသေးတယ်။

The people who don't mind classical music.

ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတ ဆိုတာကို ဂရုမစိုက်ကြတဲ့ သူတွေပါ။

You know, you've come home from a long day,

တစ်နေ့လုံး အလုပ်ပြီးလို့ ခင်ဗျားတို့ အိမ်ပြန်ရောက်တဲ့ အခါ၊

and you take a glass of wine, and you put your feet up.

ဝိုင်တစ်ခွက် သောက်နေရင်း သင့်ခြေထောက်တွေ မတင်ထားတယ်။

A little Vivaldi in the background doesn't do any harm.

That's the second group.

Now comes the third group:

people who never listen to classical music.

ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတကို ဘယ်တော့မှ နားမထောင်သူတွေပါ။

It's just simply not part of your life.

သူတို့ ဘဝနှင့် ဘယ်လိုမှ မပတ်သက်တဲ့အရာ။

You might hear it like second-hand smoke at the airport ...

သူတို့ဟာ လေဆိပ်မှာ ဆေးလိပ်ငွေ့ ရှူရသလို နားထောင်မိနိုင်တယ်။

-- and maybe a little bit of a march from "Aida"

ပြီးတော့ "Aida" ထဲက စစ်ချီသံကို ခန်းမကြီးထဲ ဝင်လာစဉ်

when you come into the hall.

But otherwise, you never hear it.

That's probably the largest group.

And then there's a very small group.

These are the people who think they're tone-deaf.

Amazing number of people think they're tone-deaf.

ဂီတသံကို မခံစားနိုင်ကြဘူးလို့ ထင်သူတွေ အံ့သြဖွယ် များပါတယ်။

Actually, I hear a lot, "My husband is tone-deaf."

"ကျွန်မခင်ပွန်း ဂီတကို မခံစားနိုင်ဘူး။" ကြားမိခဲ့ဘူးတယ်။

Actually, you cannot be tone-deaf.

ဂီတသံကို မကြားနိုင်သူ မရှိနိုင်ပါ။

Nobody is tone-deaf.

If you were tone-deaf, you couldn't change the gears

ဂီတသံကို အကြားနိုင်ရင်၊ ကားဂီယာကို ဘယ်လိုထိုးနိုင်မလဲ၊

on your car, in a stick shift car.

You couldn't tell the difference between

somebody from Texas and somebody from Rome.

And the telephone. The telephone.

If your mother calls

ခင်ဗျားဆီ အမေ့ထံမှ ဖုန်းဝင်လာရင်၊

on the miserable telephone, she calls and says, "Hello,"

ဖုန်းသေးလေးထံမှနေပြီး သူမရဲ့ "ဟဲလို" ဆိုတာကို ကြားလိုက်တာနဲ့

you not only know who it is, you know what mood she's in.

ခေါ်သူဟာ ဘယ်သူလဲ ဆိုတာကိုသာမက သူမရဲ့ စိတ်နေစိတ်ထားကိုပါ ကိုယ်သိနေပြီ။

You have a fantastic ear. Everybody has a fantastic ear.

So nobody is tone-deaf.

But I tell you what.

ကျွန်တော် ပြောချင်သေးတယ်။

It doesn't work for me to go on with this thing,

ကျွန်တော် အနေနဲ့ ဘယ်လိုမှ လက်မခံနိုင်တဲ့ အချက်က

with such a wide gulf between those who understand,

love and are passionate about classical music,

and those who have no relationship to it at all.

The tone-deaf people, they're no longer here.

But even between those three categories,

it's too wide a gulf.

So I'm not going to go on until every single person in this room,

downstairs and in Aspen, and everybody else looking,

will come to love and understand classical music.

So that's what we're going to do.

Now, you notice that there is not the slightest doubt in my mind

that this is going to work, if you look at my face, right?

It's one of the characteristics of a leader that he not doubt

အဲဒါက လူတွေကို ရှေ့ဆောင် ခေါ်သွားချင်တဲ့ ခေါင်းဆောင် တစ်ဦးဟာ

for one moment the capacity of the people he's leading

သူက ဦးဆောင်ခေါ်သွားနေတဲ့ လူတွေရဲ့ စွမ်းဆောင်နိုင်စွမ်းကို တဒင်္ဂလေးတောင်မှ

to realize whatever he's dreaming.

All right. So I'm going to take a piece of Chopin.

This is a beautiful prelude by Chopin.

Some of you will know it.

Do you know what I think probably happened here?

When I started, you thought, "How beautiful that sounds."

"I don't think we should go to the same place

for our summer holidays next year."

It's funny, isn't it?

It's funny how those thoughts kind of waft into your head.

And of course --

Of course, if the piece is long and you've had a long day,

you might actually drift off.

Then your companion will dig you in the ribs

But has it ever occurred to you that the reason you feel sleepy

in classical music is not because of you, but because of us?

you'll always be able to know if you hear those impulses.

And the job of the C is to make the B sad.

And it does, doesn't it?

Everybody knows, who's expecting that E.

Chopin didn't want to reach the E there,

Chopin ဟာ E အဲဒီကို မရောက်စေလိုခဲ့ဘူး၊

because what will have happened?

အဲဒီလို ဘယ်လိုများ ဖြစ်ပျက်ကုန်မှာမို့လို့လဲ။

It will be over, like Hamlet. Do you remember?

Act One, scene three,

ဇာတ်ခန်း တစ်၊ ပြကွက်သုံး၊

he finds out his uncle killed his father.

သူ့ဦးလေးက သူ့အဖေကို သတ်ပစ်တာ သူ မြင်လိုက်ရတယ်။

He keeps on going up to his uncle and almost killing him.

သူဟာ သူ့ဦးလေးနားကို ကပ်လာလျက် သတ်ပစ်လုမတတ်ပါပဲ။

And then he backs away, he goes up to him again, almost kills him.

အဲဒီနောက်မှာ သူဟာ နောက်ဆုတ်လိုက်တယ်၊ ထပ်ပြီးသွားတာ သူ့ကို သတ်ပစ်လုနီးပါပဲ။

The critics sitting in the back row there,

နောက်တန်းမှာ ထိုင်နေကြတဲ့ ဝေဖန်ရေးသမားတွေက

they have to have an opinion, so they say, "Hamlet is a procrastinator."

သူတို့ရဲ့ ထင်မြင်ချက်ကို ပေးရမယ်ဆိုတော့၊ "Hamlet ဟာ အချိန်ကို တမင်ဆွဲနေတာ"

Or they say, "Hamlet has an Oedipus complex."

"Hamlet ထံတွင် Oedipus ရောဂါ ပြဿနာ ရှိနေတယ်လို့" ဆိုကြပါမယ်။

No, otherwise the play would be over, stupid.

မဟုတ်ရင်၊ ဒီပြဇာတ်က ပြီးသွားရမှာလေ။

အဲဒါကြောင့်မို့လို့ ရှိတ်စပီးယားဟာ Hamlet မှာ အဲဒီလိုအရာတွေ ထည့်ထားရတာ--

That's why Shakespeare puts all that stuff in Hamlet --

Ophelia going mad, the play within the play,

Ophelia ရူးသွပ်တော့မယ်၊ ပြဇာတ်ထဲက ပြဇာတ်ပါပဲ၊

and Yorick's skull, and the gravediggers.

Yorick ရဲ့ ဦးခေါင်းခွံနဲ့ သင်္ချိုင်းတူးသမားတွေ။

That's in order to delay --

အချိန်ဆွဲဖို့ အတွက်ပါ--

until Act Five, he can kill him.

ဇာတ်ခန်း ငါးမတိုင်မီ သူ သတ်နိုင်ဖို့ပါ။

It's the same with the Chopin.

He's just about to reach the E,

That's excitement, don't worry about it.

Now, he gets to F-sharp, and finally he goes down to E,

because the chord he's looking for is this one,

and instead he does ...

ဒါပေမဲ့ အဲဒီအစား သူလုပ်တာက ...

Now, we call that a deceptive cadence,

အဲဒါကို ကျုပ်တို့က လှည့်ဖြားတဲ့ ချသံလို့ ခေါ်ကြတယ်၊

ကျုပ်တို့ကို လှည့်ဖြားဖို့ပါ။

because it deceives us.

I tell my students, "If you have a deceptive cadence,

ကျွန်တော့် ကျောင်းသားတွေကို၊ "မင်းတို့မှာ လှည့်ဖြားတဲ့ ချသံရှိရင်၊

raise your eyebrows, and everybody will know."

၎င်းတို့ရဲ့ မျက်ခုံမွှေးကို မြှင့်ပြရင်း လူတိုင်းကို သိကြပါစေ။" လို့ ပြောတတ်တယ်။

There was a gentleman in the front row who went, "Mmm."

It's the same gesture he makes when he comes home

Because we all know where home is.

So this is a piece which goes from away to home.

I'm going to play it all the way through and you're going to follow.

You may be wondering why I'm clapping.

Well, I did this at a school in Boston

ကောင်းပြီ၊ Boston က ကျောင်းတစ်ကျောင်းမှာ

with about 70 seventh graders, 12-year-olds.

၁၂ နှစ်အရွယ် ၇ တန်းကျောင်းသား ၇၀ ခန့်နဲ့တုန်းကပါ။

ခင်ဗျားတို့ကို အခုလုပ်ပြခဲ့သလိုပဲ သူတို့ကို လုပ်ပြခဲ့တယ်၊

I did exactly what I did with you,

and I explained the whole thing.

ခုနကလိုပဲ အရာတွေအားလုံးကို ရှင်းပြခဲ့တယ်။

At the end, they went crazy, clapping.

ပြီးသွားတော့ သူတို့အားလုံး လက်ခုပ်တီးကြပါတော့တယ်။

I was clapping. They were clapping.

ကျွန်တော်လည်း လက်ခုပ်တီး၊ ၏ သူတို့ကလည်း တီးပေါ့။

Finally, I said, "Why am I clapping?"

နောက်ဆုံးတွင် ကျွန်တော်က၊ "ငါလက်ခုပ်တီးနေတာ ဘာကြောင့်လဲ?"

And one of them said, "Because we were listening."

သူတို့ထဲက တစ်ယောက်က၊ "ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ နားထောင်နေခဲ့ကြလို့ပါ" လို့ပြောတယ်။

Think of it. 1,600 people, busy people,

involved in all sorts of different things,

listening, understanding and being moved

နားထောင်နေခဲ့ကြတယ်၊ နားလည်ခဲ့ကြတယ်၊ စိတ်လှုပ်ရှားမိကြတယ်၊

by a piece by Chopin.

Chopin ရဲ့ ဂီတလေး တစ်ခုကြောင့်။

Now, that is something.

အဲဒါဟာ တကယ်အရေးကြီးတဲ့ အရာပါ။

Am I sure that every single person followed that,

ခင်ဗျားတို့ထဲက လူတိုင်းဟာ ဒါကို နားထောင်ခဲ့တယ်၊

understood it, was moved by it?

နားလည်ခဲ့တာ၊ စိတ်လှုပ်ရှား မိတာကို ကျွန်တော် သေချာသလား။

Of course, I can't be sure.

But I'll tell you what happened to me in Ireland

အိုင်ယာလန်မှာ ဖြစ်ပျက်ခဲ့တာ ပြောပြဖို့ လိုပါမယ်၊

during the Troubles, 10 years ago,

ခက်ခဲတဲ့ လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ ၁၀ နှစ်တုန်းကပါ၊

and I was working with some Catholic and Protestant kids

ကက်သလစ်နဲ့ပရိုတက်စတင့် ကလေးငယ်တွေနဲ့ အလုပ်လုပ်နေခဲ့တာပါ၊

on conflict resolution.

အဲဒီက ပဋိပက္ခကို ဖြေရှင်းပေးဖို့ပါ။

And I did this with them --

ခုနကလိုပဲ သူတို့နဲ့ပါ ကျွန်တော် လုပ်ခဲ့တယ် --

a risky thing to do, because they were street kids.

သူတို့က လေလွင့်နေခဲ့တဲ့ ကလေးငယ်တွေမို့ ဒီလို ပြုလုပ်မှုဟာ အရဲစွန့်ရာကျခဲ့တယ်။

And one of them came to me the next morning

နောက်တစ်နေ့တွင် ကလေးတစ်ဦးက ကျွန်တော့်ဆီ လာခဲ့ပြီး

and he said,

ပြောလိုက်တာက၊

"You know, I've never listened to classical music in my life,

"ဆရာ သိချင်မှသိမယ်၊ ကျွန်တော်ဟာ တစ်သက်လုံး ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတကို နားမထောင်ခဲ့ဘူးပါ၊

but when you played that shopping piece ..."

ဆရာက ရှောပင်း ဂီတလေးကို တီးတော့..."

(Laughter)

He said, "My brother was shot last year and I didn't cry for him.

“ကျွန်တော့်အစ်ကိုဟာ မနှစ်တုန်းက ပစ်သတ်ခံ လိုက်ရပေမဲ့ သူ့အတွက် မငိုမိခဲ့ဘူး၊

But last night, when you played that piece,

ဒါပေမဲ့ မနေ့ညက၊ ဆရာ အဲဒီအပိုင်းကို တီးပြစဉ်

he was the one I was thinking about.

ကျွန်တော် စဉ်းစားနေခဲ့တာ သူ့အကြောင်းကိုပါ။

ကျွန်တော် မျက်နှာ တစ်လျှောက် မျက်ရည်ပြီတွေ စီးကျလာတာကို ခံစားမိတယ်။

And I felt the tears streaming down my face.

And it felt really good to cry for my brother."

အကို့ အတွက် အဲဒီလို ငိုမိတာဟာ သိပ်ကို ကောင်းတယ်လို့ ထင်ပါတယ်။"

So I made up my mind at that moment

အဲဒီဖြစ်ရပ်ရဲ့ နောက်မှာ ကျွန်တော် သေချာပေါက် ဆုံးဖြတ်လိုက်တာက

that classical music is for everybody.

ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတ ဆိုတာ လူတိုင်းအတွက် ဖြစ်တယ် ဆိုတာကိုပါ။

Everybody.

လူတိုင်းအတွက်ပါ။

Now, how would you walk --

အခုတော့ ခင်ဗျားတို့ ဒါကို ဘယ်လို မြင်ကြမလဲ --

my profession, the music profession doesn't see it that way.

ကျွန်တော်တို့ ဂီတသမားတွေ၊ ဂီတထဲ ပါဝင်ကြသူတွေ အဲဒါကို အဲဒီလို မမြင်ကြပါဘူး။

They say three percent of the population likes classical music.

သူတို့ သိတာက လူဦးရေ သုံးရာခိုင်နှုန်းတို့က ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတကို နှစ်သက်ကြခြင်းကိုပါ။

If only we could move it to four percent, our problems would be over.

ခင်ဗျားတို့ ဒါကို ဘယ်လို ပြောဆိုကြမလဲ။ ခင်ဗျားတို့သာ ဖြစ်ခဲ့ရင် ဘယ်လိုဖြစ်ခဲ့မလဲ။

If you thought, "Three percent of the population likes classical music,

"လူဦးရေရဲ့ သုံးရာခိုင်နှုန်းတို့က ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတကို နှစ်သက်ကြတယ်၊

if only we could move it to four percent."

ကျုပ်တို့က လေးရာခိုင်နှုန်းသို့ မြှင့်ပေးနိုင်ရင်ကော။"

How would you walk or talk? How would you be?

ခင်ဗျားတို့ ထင်ကြလဲ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ပြောဆိုကြမလဲ။

If you thought, "Everybody loves classical music --

"လူတိုင်းဟာ ဂန္ထဝင်ဂီတကို နှစ်သက်ကြတယ် --

သူတို့ အဲဒါကို မသိကြသေးလို့ပါ။" ခင်ဗျားတို့ ထင်နိုင်ကြတယ်။

they just haven't found out about it yet."

See, these are totally different worlds.

တကယ်တော့၊ ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ရဲ့ ကမ္ဘာကြီးဟာ လုံးဝကို မတူတဲ့ ကမ္ဘာကြီးပါ။

Now, I had an amazing experience.

အခုတော့ ကျွန်တော်ဆီမှာ အံ့ဖွယ် အတွေ့အကြုံ ရှိပါတယ်။

I was 45 years old,

ကျွန်တော် အသက် ၄၅ နှစ်တုန်းကပါ၊

I'd been conducting for 20 years,

တီးဝိုင်းကို ကြီးကြပ်ညွှန်ပြနေခဲ့တာ အနှစ် ၂၀ ရှိခဲ့ပြီ၊

and I suddenly had a realization.

ကျွန်တော် ရုတ်တရက် တစ်ချက်ကို နားလည်မိတယ်။

The conductor of an orchestra doesn't make a sound.

သံစုံတီးဝိုင်းရဲ့ ကြီးကြပ်ညွှန်ပြသူဟာ အသံတစ်ခုကိုမှ မတီးမှုတ်ရပါ။

My picture appears on the front of the CD --

စီဒီပြားတွေပေါ်မှာ ကျွန်တော့် ဓာတ်ပုံကို ထည့်ပုံနှိပ်ကြပါတယ်။

ဒါပေမဲ့ တီးဝိုင်းကို ကြီးကြပ်ညွှန်ပြသူဟာ ဘယ်လိုအသံကိုမှ တီးမှုတ်မပေးပါ။

But the conductor doesn't make a sound.

He depends, for his power,

သူ့ဆီမှာ ရှိတဲ့ စွမ်းအားက

on his ability to make other people powerful.

အခြားသူတွေကို စွမ်းအားထက်မြက်လာသူတွေ ဖြစ်အောင် လုပ်ပေးနိုင်စွမ်းပါပဲ။

And that changed everything for me.

အဲဒီအချက်က ကျွန်တော့်အတွက် အရာရာတိုင်းကို ပြောင်းလဲပစ်ခဲ့တယ်။

It was totally life-changing.

ဘဝတစ်ခုလုံးကို ပြောင်းပစ်တယ်။

People in my orchestra said,

ကျွန်တော့် သံစုံတီးဝိုင်းထဲက လူတွေက၊

"Ben, what happened?" That's what happened.

"Ben၊ ခင်ဗျား ဘယ်လိုဖြစ်သွားတာလဲ။" မေးကြတယ်။ အဖြစ်ကအဲဒီလိုပါ။

I realized my job was to awaken possibility in other people.

ကျွန်တော့်အလုပ်က တခြားသူတွေထဲက စွမ်းဆောင် နိုင်စွမ်းကို နှိုးဆွပေးရန်ပါ။

ပြီးတော့ ငါဟာ အဲဒီလို လုပ်ကိုင်နိုင်ရဲ့လား ဆိုတာကို သိချင်လိုခဲ့ပါတယ်။

And of course, I wanted to know whether I was doing that.

How do you find out?

အဲဒါကို ဘယ်လို သိနိုင်မလဲ။

You look at their eyes.

ကျုပ်တို့ဟာ ပရိသတ်ရဲ့ မျက်လုံးတွေကို ကြည့်ရှုရန် လိုပါတယ်။

If their eyes are shining, you know you're doing it.

သူတို့မျက်လုံးတွေ ဝင်းလက်နေရင် ကိုယ် အဲဒါကို လုပ်နိုင်တာ သိနိုင်တယ်။

You could light up a village with this guy's eyes.

အဲဒီလိုမျက်လုံးတွေနဲ့ ကျုပ်တို့ဟာ ရွာတစ်ရွာလုံး လင်းစေနိုင်တယ်။

(Laughter)

Right. So if the eyes are shining, you know you're doing it.

အမှန်ပြောနေတာ။ မျက်လုံးတွေ ဝင်းလက်နေရင် ကိုယ်လုပ်နိုင်တာကို သိနိုင်ပါတယ်။

If the eyes are not shining, you get to ask a question.

မျက်လုံးတွေ ဝင်းမလက်ရင် ကိုယ်က မေးခွန်းထုတ်ရပါမယ်။

And this is the question:

who am I being

မေးရမှာက ဒီလိုပါ-

ကျွန်တော့် ဂီတသမားတွေ

that my players' eyes are not shining?

မျက်လုံး ဝင်းလက်မနေကြရင် ကျွန်တော် လုပ်နေတာ ဟုတ်ရဲ့လား။

We can do that with our children, too.

ကိုယ့်ကလေးတွေနဲ့လည်း ကျုပ်တို့ လုပ်ကြည့်နိုင်ပါတယ်။

Who am I being,

ကျွန်တော့် ကလေးရဲ့ မျက်လုံးတွေ

that my children's eyes are not shining?

ဝင်းလက်မနေရင်၊ ငါလုပ်နေတာ ဟုတ်မှန်ရဲ့လား။

That's a totally different world.

အဲဒီလိုဆိုရင် ကမ္ဘာကြီး လုံးဝ ပြောင်းလဲလာမှာပါ။

Now, we're all about to end this magical, on-the-mountain week,

အခုတော့ ကျုပ်တို့ ဒီအံ့အားသင့်ဖွယ် တောင် ပေါ် လမ်းလျှောက်မှုကို အဆုံးသတ်ကြရမယ်၊

we're going back into the world.

ကျုပ်တို့ဟာ ကမ္ဘာဆီကို ပြန်ဆင်းဖို့ လိုပါတယ်။

And I say, it's appropriate for us to ask the question,

ကျုပ်တို့က မိမိတို့ရဲ့ ကမ္ဘာဆီ ပြန်သွားတဲ့ အခါမှာ ​မေးကြရမယ့် မေးခွန်းက

who are we being as we go back out into the world?

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ တတွေဟာ ဘယ်သူတွေလဲ။

အောင်မြင်မှု အတွက် အဓိပ္ပါယ်ဖွင့်ဆိုချက် ကျွန်တော်ထံမှာ ရှိပါတယ်။

And you know, I have a definition of success.

ကျွန်တော့်အတွက် သိပ်ကို ရိုးရှင်းပါတယ်။

For me, it's very simple.

အဲဒါဟာချမ်းသာမှု၊ ကျော်ကြားမှုနှင့် အာဏာ အကြောင်းမဟုတ်ပါ။

It's not about wealth and fame and power.

It's about how many shining eyes I have around me.

အဲဒါက ကျွန်ုပ်ပတ်ဝန်းကျင်မှာ ဝင်းလက်နေကြတဲ့ မျက်လုံးတွေရဲ့ အရေအတွက်ပါ။

So now, I have one last thought,

အခုတော့ နောက်ဆုံး စဉ်းစားစရာ တစ်ခုကို ပြောချင်ပါတယ်၊

which is that it really makes a difference what we say --

ကျွန်တော်တို့ရဲ့ နှုတ်ကနေပြီး ထုတ်ပြောလိုက်ကြတဲ့ စကားလုံးတွေဟာ

the words that come out of our mouth.

အခြေအနေကို လုံးဝကို ပြောင်းလဲသွားစေနိုင်ကြတယ်။

I learned this from a woman who survived Auschwitz,

Auschwitz ကနေပြီး လွတ်မြောက်နိုင်ခဲ့တဲ့ အမျိုးသမီးထံမှ ရရှိခဲ့တဲ့ သင်ခန်းစာပါ၊

one of the rare survivors.

She went to Auschwitz when she was 15 years old.

ရှားရှားပါးပါး အသက်ရှင်ကျန်ရစ်ခဲ့သူပါ။

သူမ ၁၅ နှစ်အရွယ်တွင် Auschwitz ကို သွားခဲ့ရတယ်။

And ...

အဲဒါနဲ့ ...

သူ့ညီလေးက ရှစ်နှစ် အရွယ်ပါ၊

And her brother was eight,

မိဘနှစ်ပါးစလုံးကို သူတို့ ဆုံးရှုံးသွားခဲ့ကြပြီ။

and the parents were lost.

And she told me this, she said,

သူမရဲ့ အဖြစ်ကို ကျွန်တော့်ကို ပြောပြခဲ့တာ၊

"ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ Auschwitz ကို သွားမယ့် ရထားကို စီးလိုက်လာကြတယ်၊

"We were in the train going to Auschwitz,

and I looked down and saw my brother's shoes were missing.

အောက်ဘက်ကို ကျွန်မ ငုံ့ကြည့်လိုက်တော့ ညီဆီမှာ ဖိနပ်မရှိတာ မြင်လိုက်ရတယ်။

I said, 'Why are you so stupid, can't you keep your things together

'မင်းက တကယ်လူအပဲ၊ ကိုယ့်ပ္စစည်းတွေကိုတောင်

for goodness' sake?'"

ကောင်းကောင်း သိမ်းမထားနိုင်ဘူးလား။ လို့ ငေါက်မေးလိုက်တယ်။

The way an elder sister might speak to a younger brother.

အစ်မဖြစ်သူက ညီလေးကို ပုံမှန် စကားပြောတဲ့ ပုံစံမျိုးပါပဲ။

ဝမ်းနည်းစရာ ကောင်းတာက အဲဒါဟာ သူ့ညီကို သူပြောခဲ့တဲ့ နောက်ဆုံး စကားလုံးတွေပါ၊

Unfortunately, it was the last thing she ever said to him,

because she never saw him again.

သူတို့ ဘယ်တော့မှ ပြန်မတွေ့ဆုံဖြစ်ခဲ့ကြဘူး။

He did not survive.

သူ အသက်ရှင် မကျန်ရစ်ခဲ့ပါ။

And so when she came out of Auschwitz, she made a vow.

သူမ Auschwitz ကနေ ထွက်လာချိန်မှာ ဦးညွတ်ကတိပေးခဲ့တယ်။

She told me this.

သူမ ဆက် ပြောလိုက်သေးတယ်။

She said, "I walked out of Auschwitz into life

"ကျွန်မဟာ Auschwitz ထဲကနေပြီး ဘဝထဲကို ပြန်ဝင်လာနိုင်ခဲ့လို့

and I made a vow.

ဦးညွတ် ခဲ့တာ ဖြစ်တယ်။

And the vow was,

ဦးညွတ်ရင်း ပေးခဲ့တဲ့ ကတိက

"I will never say anything that couldn't stand as the last thing I ever say."

"နောက်ဆုံးအဖြစ် ကျန်ရစ်ခဲ့မယ့် စကားလုံးတွေ ကျွန်မ ဘယ်တော့မှ မပြောစေရပါ။"

အခု ကျွန်တော်တို့ ပြန်ပြောနိုင်မလား။ လုပ်မရနိုင်တော့ပါ။

Now, can we do that? No.

And we'll make ourselves wrong and others wrong.

အဲဒီလိုဆိုရင် ကိုယ့်က အမှားလုပ်မိနိုင်သလို အခြားသူတွေကိုလည်း မှားစေနိုင်ပါတယ်။

But it is a possibility to live into.

ဒါပေမဲ့ အသက်ရှင် နေထိုင်ဖို့အတွက် နည်းလမ်း တစ်ခုပါ။
