ကျွန်မအသက် ၁၉ နှစ်မှာ ပါလက်စတိုင်းနိုင်ငံ၊ ဂါဇာစထရစ်ဒေသရဲ့

When I turned 19, I started my career

အမျိုးသမီး ဓာတ်ပုံဆရာအလုပ်ဟာ

ရိုးရာအယူအဆတွေအပေါ် ပြင်းထန်တဲ့စော်ကားမှုဖြစ်ခဲ့ပြီး

as the first female photojournalist

in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

ကျွန်မနဲ့ ကျွန်မမိသားစုအတွက် အချိန် အတော်ကြာအောင် အမဲစက်တစ်ခုဖြစ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

My work as a woman photographer

was considered a serious insult

ဖိုဝါဒ ကြီးစိုးတဲ့ နယ်ပယ်ဖြစ်တဲ့အတွက်

to local traditions,

ကျွန်မအလုပ်ကို ကန့်ကွက်ဖို့ အစွမ်းကုန်ကြိးစားကြပါတယ်။

and created a lasting stigma

for me and my family.

သူတို့က အမျိုးသမီးတစ်ယောက်ဟာ

အမျိုးသားတွေရဲ့ အလုပ်ကို မလုပ်ရဘူးလို့ ပြတ်ပြတ်သားသားပြောလာပါတယ်။

The male-dominated field made my presence

ဂါဇာမှာရှိတဲ့ ဓတ်ပုံအေဂျင်စီတွေကလည်း

unwelcome by all possible means.

ကျွန်မကို မိန်းကလေးဖြစ်နေတဲ့အတွက် လက်မခံကြပါဘူး။

They made clear that a woman

ငြင်းဆိုမှုဟာ အတော်လေးထင်ရှားခဲ့ပါတယ်။

must not do a man's job.

ကျွန်မရဲ့ လုပ်ဖော်ကိုင်ဖက် ၃ ယောက်က

Photo agencies in Gaza refused to train me

ကျွန်မကို ဝေဟင်တိုက်ခိုက်မှုတွေရှိတဲ့ နေရာကိုခေါ်သွားခဲ့ပါတယ်။

because of my gender.

The "No" sign was pretty clear.

အဲ့နေရာမှာတော့ ကျွန်မပေါက်ကွဲသံတွေကိုပဲကြားရပါတယ်။

Three of my colleagues

went as far as to drive me to an open air strike area

ဖုန်မှုန့်တွေလေထဲမှာ လွင့်နေတယ်။

မြေကြီးကလည်း ဒါန်းကြီးတစ်ခုလို လှုပ်ခါနေတယ်။

where the explosion sounds

ကျွန်မ နားလည်လိုက်တာက

ကျွန်မတို့က အဲဒီနေရာက အဖြစ်အပျက်ကို

were the only thing I could hear.

မှတ်တမ်းတင်ဖို့ရောက်နေတာ မဟုတ်ခဲ့ပါဘူး။

Dust was flying in the air,

သူတို့ သုံးယောက်က အကာအကွယ်ပါတဲ့ ဂျစ်ကားပေါ် ပြေးတက်သွားပြီး

and the ground was shaking like a swing beneath me.

ကျွန်မကို လှောင်ရယ်၊ လက်ပြပြီး မောင်းထွက်သွားကြတယ်။

I only realized we weren't there to document the event

ကျွန်မကို ဝေဟင်တိုက်ခိုက်မှုဖြစ်တဲ့နေရာမှာ တစ်ယောက်တည်းထားခဲ့ကြတယ်။

when the three of them got back into the armored Jeep

အဲဒီအချိန်ခဏလေးမှာ ကျွန်မတော်တော်ကြောက်သွားတယ်။

and drove away, waving and laughing,

ရှက်လည်းရှက်သွားတယ်၊ စိတ်မကောင်းလည်းဖြစ်တယ်။

leaving me behind in the open air strike zone.

ကျွန်မလုပ်ဖော်ကိုင်ဖက်တွေရဲ့ ဒီလုပ်ရပ်ဟာ

For a moment, I felt terrified,

ကျွန်မအခုမှ ရဖူးတဲ့ အသက်အန္တရာယ် ခြိမ်းခြောက်မှုမျိုးမဟုတ်ပေမဲ့

humiliated, and sorry for myself.

အန္တရာယ်အများဆုံးတစ်ခုပါ။

My colleagues' action was not

ဂါဇာမှာ အမျိုးသမီးတွေရဲ့ ဘဝဟာ

the only death threat I have received,

ယောကျ်ားတွေပြုသမျှနုရမယ်လို့ သဘောထားကြပါတယ်။

but it was the most dangerous one.

မကြာသေးခင်ကအထိ အမျိုးသမီးအများစုဟာ

အလုပ်လုပ်ခွင့်နဲ့ ပညာသင်ခွင့်မရကြပါဘူး

The perception of women's life in Gaza

is passive.

အမျိုးသမီးတွေအပေါ်ကန့်သတ်ဖိနှိပ်မှုနဲ့

Until a recent time, a lot of women were not allowed

အစ္စရေး-ပါကစ္စတန် ပဋိပက္ခတို့

to work or pursue education.

ပြဿနာ နှစ်ခုလုံး ပြင်းထန်နေချိန်မှာ

အမျိုးသမီးတွေရဲ့ ကောင်းတဲ့ ဘဝဇာတ်ကြောင်းတွေရော

At times of such doubled war including

ဆိုးတဲ့ဇာတ်ကြောင်းတွေရောဟာ မေ့လျော့ခံလာရတယ်။

both social restrictions on women

အမျိုးသားတွေအတွက်တော့ အမျိုးသမီးတို့ရဲ့ ဘဝဇာတ်ကြောင်းတွေဟာ

and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,

အရေးမပါခဲ့ပါဘူး။

women's dark and bright stories were fading away.

ကျွန်မဟာ အမျိုးသမီးတွေရဲ့ ဘဝအကြောင်းကို

ပိုပြီးနီးနီးကပ်ကပ် စောင့်ကြည့်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

To men, women's stories were seen

ကျွန်မက အမျိုးသမီးတစ်ယောက်ဖြစ်နေတဲ့အတွက်

as inconsequential.

ကျွန်မလုပ်ဖော်ကိုင်ဖက်တွေမရောက်နိုင်တဲ့ လောကတွေဆီကို ခြေဆန့်နိုင်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

I started paying closer attention

to women's lives in Gaza.

ပြင်းထန်တဲ့ နာကျင်မှုနဲ့ ကြိုးစားမှုတွေအပြီးမှတော့

Because of my gender, I had access

ရယ်မောသံတွေ၊ အောင်မြင်မှုတွေနဲ့ပြည့်နက်နေတဲ့

to worlds where my colleagues were forbidden.

ကောင်းမွန်တဲ့ အချိန်ကာလ တစ်ခုရှိခဲ့ပါတယ်။

ဂါဇာရဲ့ ပထမစစ်ပွဲအတွင်း

Beyond the obvious pain and struggle,

ဂါဇာမြို့ ရဲစခန်းဝင်းအရှေ့မှာ

there was a healthy dose

of laughter and accomplishments.

အစ္စရေးလေကြောင်းတစ်ခုက စခန်းကို ရုတ်တရက်တိုက်ခိုက်ဖျက်စီးပါတော့တယ်။

In front of a police compound in Gaza City

ကျွန်မနှာခေါင်းလည်းကျိုးသွားတယ်။

during the first war in Gaza,

အဲ့အချိန်မှာ ကျွန်မ ဒီမီးရောင်တွေလို အဖြူရောင်တောက်တောက်တွေကိုပဲမြင်ရတယ်။

an Israeli air raid managed to destroy the compound

and break my nose.

ကျွန်မကိုယ်ကျွန်မ မျက်စိကန်းသွားပြီ

For a moment, all I saw was white, bright white,

ဒါမှမဟုတ်သေပြီလို့ထင်ခဲ့တာ။

like these lights.

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကျွန်မမျက်လုံးပြန်ဖွင့်နိုင်တဲ့ အချိန်မှာတော့

I thought to myself I either got blind

ကျွန်မ ဒီအဖြစ်အပျက်ကို မှတ်တမ်းတင်ပြီးသားဖြစ်နေပါတယ်

or I was in heaven.

အစ္စရေးမှာ ၂ နှစ်အလုပ်လုပ်ခဲ့တဲ့

By the time I managed to open my eyes,

ပါလက်စတိုင်းအလုပ်သမား မိုဟာမက်ခါဒါ, က

I had documented this moment.

သူ့ရဲ့ အငြိမ်းစားယူမယ့် အစီအစဉ်အရ

သူက လေးထပ်အိမ်ဆောက်ဖို့ဆုံးဖြတ်ထားပြီး

Mohammed Khader, a Palestinian worker

who spent two decades in Israel,

as his retirement plan,

he decided to build a four-floor house,

only by the first field operation at his neighborhood,

Nothing was left but the pigeons he raised

မိုဟာမက်က ရေချိုးကန်လေးကို အုတ်ကျိုးပုံပေါ်က ပြန်ရခဲ့တာပါ

ဒီရေချိုးကန်လေးနဲ့

and a jacuzzi, a bathtub

သူ့ကလေးတွေကို မနက်တိုင်း

that he got from Tel Aviv.

ရေပူဖောင်းလေးတွေနဲ့ ရေချိုးပေးခဲ့ပါတယ်

Mohammed got the bathtub

on the top of the rubble

ကျွန်မအလုပ်က စစ်ပွဲကရတဲ့ နာကြည်းစရာတွေကို ဖုံးကွယ်ထားဖို့ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး

and started giving his kids

ဂါဇာဒေသခံတွေရဲ့ လျှို့ဝှက်အမှန်တရားတွေကို အားလုံးသိအောင် ဖော်ထုတ်ရမှာဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

an every morning bubble bath.

My work is not meant to hide the scars of war,

ပါလက်စတိုင်း အမျိုးသမီးဓာတ်ပုံဆရာတစ်ယောက်အနေနဲ့

but to show the full frame

နေ့စဉ်ကြိုးစားရှင်သန်မှုတွေနဲ့ နေ့စဉ်ဘဝက

of unseen stories of Gazans.

ကျွန်မအတွက်တော့ အသိုင်းအဝိုင်းရဲ့ ဘာသာရေး၊ ယဉ်ကျေးမှုအရ တားမြစ်ချက်တွေကို

As a Palestinian female photographer,

ကျော်ဖြတ်ဖို့ လှုံ့ဆော်ပေးပြီး

the journey of struggle, survival and everyday life

စစ်ပွဲရဲ့ အခြားတစ်ဖက်အခြေအနေနဲ့ သူ့ရဲ့ နောက်ဆက်တွဲကိုလည်းမြင်ခွင့်ရတယ်။

has inspired me to overcome the community taboo

ကျွန်မက အခုတော့ ထွက်ပြေးမလား။ ဆက်လက်ရပ်တည်မလား ရွေးချယ်ခွင့်ရှိတဲ့

and see a different side of war and its aftermath.

မျက်မြင်တစ်သက်သေတစ်ယောက်ဖြစ်လာပါပြီ

ကျေးဇူးတင်ပါတယ်

I became a witness with a choice:
