This is a kindergarten we designed in 2007.

ئەمە ئەو باخچەی ساوایانەیە کە ئێمە لە ساڵی ٢٠٠٧ دیزاینمان کردووە.

We made this kindergarten to be a circle.

بە شێوەی بازنەیی ئەم باخچەی ساوایانەمان دروست کردووە .

It's a kind of endless circulation on top of the roof.

ئەمە جۆرێکە لە سووڕانەوەی بێ کۆتایی لەسەر بانەکەی.

If you are a parent,

ئەگەر ئێوە دایک یان باوک بن،

you know that kids love to keep making circles.

دەزانی کە منداڵان بەردەوام حەزیان لە دروست کردنی بازنەیە.

This is how the rooftop looks.

سەربانەکە بەم شێوەیە دیارە.

And why did we design this?

و بۆچی ئێمە ئەوەمان دیزایین کردووە؟

The principal of this kindergarten said,

بەڕیوەبەری ئەم باخچەی ساوایانە گوتی،

"No, I don't want a handrail."

''نە خێر، من هێڵی دەستیم ناوێ.''

I said, "It's impossible."

گوتم، '' مەحاڵە.''

But he insisted: "How about having a net sticking out from the edge of the roof?

بەڵام ئەو جەختی کردەوە :"بۆچی تۆڕێک لە لێواری سەربانەکە نەچەسپێنین؟

So that it can catch the children falling off?"

ئەمە دەتوانێت منداڵەکان بگرێتەوە لە کەوتنە خوارەوەیاندا؟''

(Laughter)

I said, "It's impossible."

گوتم، ''ئەمە مەحاڵە.''

And of course, the government official said,

و بێگومان، نوێنەری حکومەت گوتی ،

"Of course you have to have a handrail."

'' بێگومان دەبێت هێڵی دەستی هەبێت.''

But we could keep that idea around the trees.

بەڵام دەتوانین کە ئەم بیرۆکەیە لە دەوری دارەکان بەکار بهێنین.

There are three trees popping through.

سێ دار لە بنمیچەکەدا هاتبوونە دەر.

And we were allowed to call this rope as a handrail.

و ڕێگەمان پێدراوە کە ئەم گوریسانە وەک ‌هێڵی دەستی بەکار بهێنین.

But of course, rope has nothing to do with them.

بەڵام بێگوومان، گوریسەکان یارمەتیان نادا.

They fall into the net.

دەکەونە ناو تۆڕەکەوە.

And you get more,

و تۆ زیاتر دەست دەکەویت،

and more,

و زیاتر،

more.

زیاتر.

(Laughter)

Sometimes 40 children are around a tree.

هەنذێک جار ٤٠ منداڵ لە دەوری دارێکن.

The boy on the branch,

ئەو کوڕەی سەر لقەکە،

he loves the tree so he is eating the tree.

درەختی خۆشدەوێن بۆیە خەریکە دارەکە دەخوات.

(Laughter)

And at the time of an event,

و لە کاتی هەر مەراسیمیک،

they sit on the edge.

لەسەر قەراغەکە دادەنێشن.

It looks so nice from underneath.

لە خوارەوە زۆر جوان دیارن.

Monkeys in the zoo.

مەیموونەکان لە باخچەی ئاژەڵان.

(Laughter)

Feeding time.

کاتی خواردنە.

(Laughter) (Applause)

And we made the roof as low as possible,

و تا ئەو شوێنەی کە دەکرا سەبانەکەمان نزم کردەوە،

because we wanted to see children on top of the roof,

چونکە دەمانویست منداڵان لەسەربانەکە ببینین،

not only underneath the roof.

نەک تەنها لە ژێر سەربانەکە.

And if the roof is too high, you see only the ceiling.

و ئەگەر سەربانەکە زۆر بەرز بووایە، تەنها دەتتوانی کە سەقفەکە ببینیت.

And the leg washing place -- there are many kinds of water taps.

و شوێنی شووشتنی قاچەکان -- چەندین جۆری جیاوازی فاو هەیە .

You see with the flexible tubes,

دەیانبینن لەگەڵ بۆڕییە نەرمەکان،

you want to spray water to your friends,

کە حەزدەکەیی ئاو بە هاوڕیکەتدا بکە،

and the shower,

و وەک دوشی حەمام،

and the one in front is quite normal.

و ئەوەی لە پێشەوەیە زۆر ئاساییە.

But if you look at this,

بەڵام ئەگەر سەیرێکی ئەمە بکەیت،

the boy is not washing his boots,

کوڕەکە پوتەکانی ناشوات،

he's putting water into his boots.

خەیکە ئاو دەکاتە ناو پوتەکانیەوە.

(Laughter)

This kindergarten is completely open, most of the year.

ئەم باخچەی ساوایانە زۆربەی ساڵەکە، بە تەواوی کراوەیە.

And there is no boundary between inside and outside.

و هیچ سنوورێکی نییە لە نێوان ناوەوە و دەرەوە .

So it means basically this architecture is a roof.

کەواتە لە بنەڕەتدا واتە ئەم تەلارسازیە بانێکە.

And also there is no boundary between classrooms.

هەروەها هیچ سنوورێک لە نێوان پۆلەکاندا نییە.

So there is no acoustic barrier at all.

کەواتە هیچ بەربەستێکی دەنگی نییە.

When you put many children in a quiet box,

کاتێک چەند مندالێک دەخەیتە ناو سندوقێکی بێدەنگەوە،

some of them get really nervous.

هەندێکیان زۆر نیگەران دەبن.

But in this kindergarten,

بەڵام لەم باخچەی ساوایانەدا،

there is no reason they get nervous.

هیچ هۆکارێک بۆ نیگەران بوونیان نییە.

Because there is no boundary.

چونکە هیچ سنوورێک بوونی نییە.

And the principal says

هەروەها بەڕێوەبەرەکە گوتی

if the boy in the corner doesn't want to stay in the room,

ئەگەر ئەو کوڕە نەیەوێت لە گۆشەی ژوورەکەدا بمێنێتەوە،

we let him go.

ئێمە رێگە دەدەین بڕوات.

He will come back eventually, because it's a circle, it comes back.

لە کۆتاییدا دەگەڕێتەوە، چونکە ئێرە بازنەیەکە، دەگەرێتەوە.

(Laughter)

But the point is, in that kind of occasion,

بەڵام خاڵەکە ئەوەیە، لەو حالەتانەدا،

usually children try to hide somewhere.

بەزۆری منداڵان هەوڵ دەدەن لە شوێنێک خۆیان بشارنەوە.

But here, just they leave and come back.

بەڵام لێرە، تەنها جێدەهێڵدرێن و دێنەوە.

It's a natural process.

ئەمە پڕۆسەیەکی سروشتییە.

And secondly, we consider noise very important.

و دووەم، ئێمە ژاوەژاو و دەنگە دەنگ وەک کێشەیەکی گرنگ دەبینین.

You know that children sleep better in noise.

دەزانن کە منداڵان لە ژاوە ژاودا باشتر دەخەون.

They don't sleep in a quiet space.

لە شوێنی بێدەنگ ناخەون.

And in this kindergarten,

لەم باخچەی ساوایانەدا،

these children show amazing concentration in class.

منداڵان تەکیزێکی سەرسەڕهێنەریان هەیە لە پۆلدا.

And you know, our kind grew up in the jungle with noise.

و دەزانن کە باوباپیرانمان لە دارستانە پڕ لە ژاوەژاوەکاندا گەورە بوونە.

They need noise.

ئەوان پێویستیان بە دەنگە دەنگە.

And you know, you can talk to your friends in a noisy bar.

هەروەک دەزانن، دەتوانیت لە باڕێکی پڕ ژاوەژاودا لەگەڵ هاوڕێکەت قسە بکەین.

You are not supposed to be in silence.

نابێت بێدەنگ بیت.

And you know, these days

و دەزانیت، ئەم ڕۆژانە

we are trying to make everything under control.

هەوڵ دەدەین هەموو شتێک لە ژێر کۆنتڕۆڵماندا بێت.

You know, it's completely open.

دەزانن کە بە تەواوی کراوەیە.

And you should know that

و پێویستە بزانن کە

we can go skiing in -20 degrees in winter.

دەتوانین لە زستاندا لە ژێر پلەی گەرمی ٢٠- خلیسکێنەی سەر بەفر بکەین.

In summer you go swimming.

لە هاوینیشدا دەتوانیت مەلە بکەیت.

The sand is 50 degrees.

کە پلەی گەرمی ٥٠ پلەیە.

And also, you should know that you are waterproof.

و هەروەها، دەبێت بزانیت کە تۆ دژە ئاویت.

You never melt in rain.

هەرگیز لە باران ناتوێیتەوە.

So, children are supposed to be outside.

کەواتە، منداڵەکان پێویستە لە دەرەوە بن.

So that is how we should treat them.

بۆیە دەبێت بەم شێوەیە مامەڵەیان لەگەڵدا دەکەین.

This is how they divide classrooms.

پۆلەکان بەم شێوەیە دابەش دەکەن.

They are supposed to help teachers.

وا بیر دەکەینەوە کە یارمەتی مامۆستایان دەدەن.

They don't.

بەڵآم نایکەن.

I didn't put him in.

من ئەوم نەخستۆتە ناو سندقەکەوە .

A classroom.

پۆلێک.

And a washbasin.

و حەوزی شۆردن.

They talk to each other around the well.

لە دەوری حەوزەکە قسە لەگەڵ یەکتر دەکەن.

And there are always some trees in the classroom.

و زۆرجار هەندێک .دار لەناو پۆلدا هەیە

A monkey trying to fish another monkey from above.

و مەیمونێک هەوڵدەدات مەیمونێکی تر لەسەرەوە بگرێ.

And each classroom has at least one skylight.

و هەر پۆلێک بەلایەنی کەمەوە یەک پەنجەرەی سەربانی هەیە.

And this is where Santa Claus comes down at the time of Christmas.

و بابانوئێل لە جەژنی سەری ساڵدا لەو شوینەوە دێتە خوارێ.

This is the annex building,

ئەمە باڵەخانەی پێچاوپێچە،

right next to that oval-shaped kindergarten.

ڕێک لە تەنیشت ئەو باخچەی ساوایانی شێوە هێلکەیی هەیە.

The building is only five meters tall with seven floors.

باڵەخانەکە ٧ قاتە و تەنها پێنج مەتر درێژە .

And of course, the ceiling height is very low.

و بێگومان سەقفەکەی زۆر نزمە .

So you have to consider safety.

کەواتە دەبێت ڕەچاوی سەلامەتی بکەیت.

So, we put our children, a daughter and a son.

بۆیە، منداڵەکانمان، کچێک و کوڕێکمان بردە ئەوێ.

They tried to go in.

هەوڵ دەدەن کە بچنە ژوورەوە.

He hit his head.

سەری خۆی لێدا.

He's okay. His skull is quite strong.

ئەو باشە، کەلەی زۆر بەهێزە.

He is resilient. It's my son.

زۆر خۆڕاگرا، ئەو کوڕی مندا.

And he is trying to see if it is safe to jump off.

و هەوڵدەدات بزانێت سەلامەتە بۆ بازدان.

And then we put other children.

و دواتر منداڵەکانی ترمان برد .

The traffic jam is awful in Tokyo, as you know.

وەک دەزانن، قورەباڵغی ترافیک زۆر خراپە لە تۆکیۆ.

(Laughter)

The driver in front, she needs to learn how to drive.

شۆفێرەکەی پێشەوە پێویستە فێربێت کە چۆن لێبخووڕێت.

Now these days,

ئێستا ئەم ڕۆژانە،

kids need a small dosage of danger.

منداڵان پێویستیان بە کەمێک لە مەترسی هەیە.

And in this kind of occasion,

و لەم جۆرە حالەتانەدا،

they learn to help each other.

فێردەبن کە هاوکاری یەکتر بکەن.

This is society. This is the kind of opportunity we are losing these days.

ئەمە کۆمەڵگایە. ئەمە ئەو دەرفەتەیە کە ئێمە لەم ڕۆژانەدا لە دەستیان دەدەین.

Now, this drawing is showing the movement of a boy

ئێستا، ئەم وێنەیە جوڵەی کوڕێک نیشان دەدات

between 9:10 and 9:30.

لە ٩:١٥ بۆ ٩:٣٠.

And the circumference of this building is 183 meters.

ڕووبەری بینایەکە ١٨٣ مەترە.

So it's not exactly small at all.

کەواتە بچووکیش نییە.

And this boy did 6,000 meters in the morning.

و ئەم کوڕە لە بەیانیدا ٦٠٠٠ مەتر ڕۆشتبوو.

But the surprise is yet to come.

بەڵام هێشتا سورپرایزەکە نەهاتووە.

The children in this kindergarten do 4,000 meters on average.

منداڵەکان بە تێکڕایی ٤٠٠٠ مەتر لە باخچەی ساوایان پیاسە دەکەن.

And these children have the highest athletic abilities

و ئەم منداڵانە بەرزترین توانای وەرزشیان هەیە

among many kindergartens.

بەبەراورد بە منداڵانی باخچە ساوایەکانی تر.

The principal says,

بەڕێوەبەرەکە گوتی،

"I don't train them. We leave them on top of the roof.

''من ڕاهێنانیان پێناکەم. لەسەر بانە جێیان دەهڵین.

Just like sheep."

وەک مەڕ.''

They keep running.

نەردەوام بوون لە ڕاکردن.

(Laughter)

My point is don't control them,

مەبەستی من ئەوەیە کە کۆنتڕۆڵیان نەکەین،

don't protect them too much,

زۆر پارێزگاریان لێ مەکە،

and they need to tumble sometimes.

هاندێک جار پێویستە بکەون.

They need to get some injury.

هەندێک جار پێویستە بریندار بن.

And that makes them learn

و ئەمە وایان لێدەکات فێربن

how to live in this world.

کە چۆن بژین لەم دنیایە.

I think architecture is capable of changing this world,

من بڕوام وایە کە تەلارسازی توانای گۆڕینی جیهان،

and people's lives.

و ژیانی خەڵکی هەیە.

And this is one of the attempts to change the lives of children.

و ئەمەش یەکێکە لە هەوڵەکانی بۆ گۆرینی ژیانی منداڵان.
