(English) This is the way Indigenous Sakha people greet one another.

خەڵکی ڕەسەنی ساخا بەم شێوەیە سڵاو لە یەکتر دەکەن.

This phrase has no exact English translation,

ئەم دەستەواژەیە هیچ وەرگێڕانێکی وردی بۆ ئینگلیزی نییە،

but it means "I greet the universe in your person."

بەڵام بە واتای سڵاو لە گەردوون لە ڕێگەی تۆوە دەکەم.

My name is Snow Raven,

من ناوم سنۆ ڕەڤێنە.

and I'm from the Republic of Sakha Yakutia

و من خەڵکی کۆماری ساخا یاکوتیام

in Arctic Siberia,

لە سیبیریای جەمسەری باکوور،

the most cold settled place on Earth,

where winter’s temperature can drop

So after six years being away from Sakha Yakutia,

I returned this summer

to see my family and also visit our ancestral home.

The first thing I did when I arrived

کاتێک گەیشتم، یەکەم شت کە کردم

was drop into silence and listen.

قووڵ بوونەوە بوو لە بێدەنگی و گوێگرتن بوو.

Listening is one of the powerful gifts

گوێگرتن یەکێکە لە دیارییە بەهێزەکان

the universe has given humans to connect with nature.

It is by listening that I have learned how to mimic nature.

and become an animal that I hear.

دەبمە ئەو ئاژەڵێکی گوێگر.

I move like it moves.

من بەو چەشنی ئەو دەجووڵێم.

I seek what it seeks.

من بەدوای ئەو شتەدا دەگەڕێم کە بەدوایدا دەگەڕێت.

I cry with its cry.

لەگەڵ هاوارەکەی دەگریم.

The owl, khakhan, for instance.

بەبەغا، خاخان، بۆ نموونە.

It has night vision.

لە شەوان باشتر دەبینێت.

It can see all around him,

The elie, brown kite,

When I hear the loon,

I feel its longing for its partner

alongside its love of the baby it carries.

The crane, the dance of this beautiful bird

حاجی لەق لەق، سەمایی ئەم باڵندە جوانە

is so stunning and divine

ئەوەندە سەرسوڕهێنەر و خوداییە

that Sakha people believe that happy are the eyes

کە خەڵکی ساخا باوەڕیان وایە کە چاوەکان دڵخۆشن

who even once witnessed the dance of a crane in a wilderness.

ئەو چاوانەن کە بۆ جارێکیش سەمای حاجی لەق لەق لە سروشتا دەبینێت.

The ehe, the brown bear.

ئێهێ، ورچی قاوەیی.

It's so mighty

ئەوەندە بەهێزە

and it terrifies everything all around him

و هەموو شتێکی دەوروبەری دەترسێنێت

while even he eats but little berries.

لە کاتێکدا تەنانەت تەنها تووی سادە دەخوات.

The reindeer, taba, are lords of tundra,

مامزی جەمسەری، تابا، شارەزایی ناوچەی توندرایە،

and they run thousands of miles in huge herds.

بە ڕەوەی مەزەن، هەزاران میل دەبڕن.

To restore and recover their energy,

بۆ خۆبەهێز کردن و بەرز کردنەوەی وزەیان،

they have a special breath.

هەناسەیەکی تایبەتیان هەیە.

In a wolf’s cry, I can hear the loneliness of the hunter

It sees the moon and wants to join it in the sky.

So the superpower of listening

هێزی بێهاوتایی گوێگرتن

is that it leaves the room for imagination

ڕێگە بۆ خەیاڵ کردن دەهێڵێتەوە

to dance with sound.

Let’s listen,

با گوێ بگرین،

ignite our imagination

خەیاڵمان ئازاد بکەین

and summon our animal superpowers
