Everything is interconnected.

هەموو شتێک پێکەوە گرێ دراوە.

As a Shinnecock Indian, I was raised to know this.

وەکو هیندیەکی شینێکۆک، لەسەر ئەم بڕوایە پەروەردە بووم.

We are a small fishing tribe

ئيمە خێڵێکی بچووکی ماسی گرین

situated on the southeastern tip of Long Island

دەکەوێتە سنووری خواروی ڕۆژهەڵاتی لۆنگ ئایلاند

near the town of Southampton in New York.

نزیک شاری ساوتئامپتۆن لە نیو یۆرك.

When I was a little girl,

کاتێک کچێکی بچکۆلانە بووم،

my grandfather took me to sit outside in the sun on a hot summer day.

لە ڕۆژێکی هاوینی گەرمدا باپیرم منی بردە دەرەوە بۆ ئەوەی لەبەر خۆر دانیشم.

There were no clouds in the sky.

هیچ هەور لە ئاسمان نەبوو.

And after a while I began to perspire.

کەمێک دواتر ئارەقم کردەوە.

And he pointed up to the sky, and he said,

ئەو ئاماژەی بۆ ئاسمان کرد، و وتی،

"Look, do you see that?

بڕوانە، تۆ ئەوە دەبینی؟"

That's part of you up there.

ئەوە بەشێکی تۆیە لەو سەرەوە.

That's your water that helps to make the cloud

ئەو ئاوەی تۆیە کە یارمەتی دروست کردنی هەور دەدات

that becomes the rain that feeds the plants

دەبێت بە باران کە خۆراک بە ڕووەکەکان دەدات

that feeds the animals."

کە خۆراک دەدات بە ئاژەڵەکان."

In my continued exploration of subjects in nature

لە بەردەوامی گەڕانەکەمدا لەسەر بابەتەکانی سرووشت

that have the ability to illustrate the interconnection of all life,

کە توانای وينا کردنی پەیواندیە گرێدراوەکانی هەیە لە نێوان بەشەکانی ژیاندا،

I started storm chasing in 2008

لە ٢٠٠٨ دەستم کرد بە سەرنجدانی گەردەلوول

after my daughter said, "Mom, you should do that."

دوای ئەوەی کچەکەم وتی "دایکە، پێویستە تۆ ئەوە بکەیت."

And so three days later, driving very fast,

سێ ڕۆژ دواتر، ئۆتۆمبێلم زۆر بە خێرایی لێ دەخوڕی،

I found myself stalking a single type of giant cloud called the super cell,

خۆم لە پشت جۆرێک لە گەردەلوولی زەبەلاحەوە دۆزیەوە کە پێی دەوترێت سوپەر سێڵ،

capable of producing grapefruit-size hail

کە توانای دروست کردنی تەرزەی هەیە بە قەبارەی بەری سندی

and spectacular tornadoes,

و گەردەلوولی سەرسوڕهێنەر،

although only two percent actually do.

ئەگەرچی تەنها لە سەدا دوویان ئەوە دەکەن.

These clouds can grow so big, up to 50 miles wide

and reach up to 65,000 feet into the atmosphere.

بەرزیەکەشی ٦٥٠٠٠ پێ لەسەر ڕووی دەریاوەیە.

They can grow so big, blocking all daylight,

ئەوان دەتوانن زۆر گەورە بن، کە ڕووناکی ڕۆژ دەگرێت،

making it very dark and ominous standing under them.

کە ڕۆژ دەگۆڕێ بۆ تاریکی و وا دەکات وەستان لە ژێریانەوە باش نەبێت.

Storm chasing is a very tactile experience.

ڕاونانی گەردەلوول ئەزموونێکی زۆر بەرجەستەیە.

There's a warm, moist wind blowing at your back

بایەکی شێداری گەرم لە پشتتەوە هەڵ دەکات

and the smell of the earth, the wheat, the grass, the charged particles.

لەگەڵ بۆنی زەوی و گەنم و گژو گیا و بارگاوی کردنی تەنۆلکەکان.

And then there are the colors in the clouds

لە دوای ئەمەش چەند ڕەنگێک لە هەورەکاندا هەیە

of hail forming, the greens and the turquoise blues.

کە لە ئەنجامی دروست بوونی تەرزەوە دروست دەبێت، وەک پلەکانی سەوز و پیرۆزەیی.

I've learned to respect the lightning.

فێری ئەوە بووم ڕێز لە هەورە بروسکە بگرم.

My hair used to be straight.

بەوەی کە پرچمی بۆ ڕێک بکەم.

I'm just kidding.

من تەنها گاڵتەم کرد.

What really excites me about these storms

ئەوەی زۆر سەرنجم ڕادەکێشێت لەو گەردەلوولانە

is their movement, the way they swirl and spin and undulate,

جووڵەکەیەتی، ئەو ڕێگەیەی پێی دروست دەبێت و دەسوڕێتەوە و شەپۆلی پێ دەکات،

with their lava lamp-like mammatus clouds.

هەوری سینگی کە لە چڕی دووکەڵاویە چاڵە گڕکانیەکان دەچێت.

They become lovely monsters.

دەگۆڕێن بۆ چەند دڕندەیەکی جوان.

When I'm photographing them,

کاتێک من وێنەیان دەگرم،

I cannot help but remember my grandfather's lesson.

ناتوانم بیر لە وانەکەی باپیرم نەکەمەوە.

As I stand under them,

لە کاتێکدا من لە ژێریاندا وەستاوم،

I see not just a cloud,

من تەنها هەورێک نابینم،

but understand that what I have the privilege to witness

بەڵام من لەوە تێ دەگەم کە ئیمتیازی ئەوەم پێ دراوە گەواهی بدەم

is the same forces, the same process in a small-scale version

کە هەمان هێز، هەمان کردار، بە ئاستێکی بچووک کراوە

that helped to create our galaxy, our solar system, our sun

یارمەتی دروست کردنی کاکێشان و سیستەمی خۆری وخۆری ئێمەی داوە

and even this very planet.

تەنانەت ئەم هاسارۆکەیەش.
