I dedicated the past two years to understanding

how people achieve their dreams.

چۆن خەڵك خەونەكانیان بەدەست بھێنن.

When we think about the dreams we have,

كاتێك ئێمە بیر لەو خەونانە دەكەینەوە كە ھەمانە،

and the dent we want to leave in the universe,

it is striking to see how big of an overlap there is

So I'm here to talk to you today

about five ways how not to follow your dreams.

One: Believe in overnight success.

You know the story, right?

The tech guy built a mobile app and sold it very fast for a lot of money.

You know, the story may seem real, but I bet it's incomplete.

I myself have a story in Brazil that people think is an overnight success.

I come from a humble family,

and two weeks before the deadline to apply for MIT,

I started the application process.

Two: Believe someone else has the answers for you.

there are other ways you have to pick as well.

And you need to make those decisions yourself.

و پێویستە خۆت ئەم بڕیارانە بدەیت.

No one else has the perfect answers for your life.

ھیچ كەسێك جگە لە خۆت وەڵامی نمونەی بۆ ژیانت نییە.

And you need to keep picking those decisions, right?

و پێویستە تۆ پارێزگاری ھەڵبژاردنی ئەم بڕیارانە بكەیت، ڕاستە؟

The pipes are infinite and you're going to bump your head,

بۆڕیەکان بێسنورن و سەرت دەسوڕمێت،

and it's a part of the process.

و ئەمە بەشێكە لە پڕۆسەكە.

Three, and it's very subtle but very important:

Decide to settle when growth is guaranteed.

So when your life is going great,

When I launched my first book,

I worked really, really hard to distribute it everywhere in Brazil.

With that, over three million people downloaded it,

Maybe if I did little,

a couple hundred thousand people would read it,

and that's great already.

But if I work harder than ever,

I can bring this number up to millions.

That's why I decided, with my new book, to go to every single state of Brazil.

And I can already see a higher peak.

There's no time to settle down.

Fourth tip, and that's really important:

Believe the fault is someone else's.

I constantly see people saying,

من دەبینم خەڵك بەردەوامی دەڵێن،

"Yes, I had this great idea, but no investor had the vision to invest."

" بەڵێ، من ئەم فكرە نایابەم ھەبوو، بەڵام ھیچ وەبەرھێنەرێك تێڕوانینی بۆ وەبەرھێنان نەبوو."

"Oh, I created this great product,

"ئۆھ، من ئەو بەرھەمە نایابەم دروست كرد،

but the market is so bad, the sales didn't go well."

بەڵام ماركێتەكە زۆر خراپە، بازار فرۆشتن باش نییە."

Or, "I can't find good talent; my team is so below expectations."

یان ، "من ناتوانم بەھرەیەكی باش بدۆزمەوە؛ تیمەكەم لە خوار پێشبینیەكانی منە."

If you have dreams,

ئەگەر تۆ خەونت ھەیە،

it's your responsibility to make them happen.

خۆت بەرپرسیت لە بەدیھێنانەدی خەونەكانت.

Yes, it may be hard to find talent.

بەڵێ لەوانەیە زەحمەت بێت بەھرەیەك بدۆزیەوە.

Yes, the market may be bad.

بەڵێ لەوانەیە ماركێتەكە خراپ بێت.

But if no one invested in your idea,

بەڵام ئەگەر ھیچ كەسێك بیرۆكەی تۆ وەبەرھەم نەھێنێت

if no one bought your product,

ئەگەر ھیچ كەسێك بەرھەمەكەت نەكرێت،

for sure, there is something there that is your fault.

بە دڵنیاییەوە، ھەڵەی خۆتە كە بەرپرسیاریەتی ھەڵناگریت.

(Laughter)

Definitely.

بە دڵنیاییەوە.

You need to get your dreams and make them happen.

پێویستە تۆ بە خەونەكانت بگەیت و بە دەستیان بھێنیت.

And no one achieved their goals alone.

و ھیچ كەسێك بە تەنیا ئامانجەكانی بە دەست ناھێنێت.

But if you didn't make them happen, it's your fault and no one else's.

بەڵام ئەگەر تۆ ھەوڵی بەدەست ھێنانی خەونەكانت نەدا، ئەمە ھەڵەی خۆتە و نەك ھی كەسیتر.

Be responsible for your dreams.

بەرپرسیاری خەونەكانت بە.

And one last tip, and this one is really important as well:

و ئەمە كۆتا ئامۆژگاری، لە ڕاستیدا ئەمەش زۆر گرنگە:

Believe that the only things that matter are the dreams themselves.

باوەرت بەمە بێت تەنھا شت كە كێشەیە خەونەكان خۆیانن.

Once I saw an ad, and it was a lot of friends,

جارێك ڕێكلامێكم بینی، و لەم ڕێكلامە كۆمەڵێك ھاورێ بوون

they were going up a mountain, it was a very high mountain,

بەسەر چیایەك سەردەكەوتن، چیایەكی زۆر بەرز بوو،

and it was a lot of work.

و كۆمەلێك ئیش بوون.

You could see that they were sweating and this was tough.

لەوانەیە عارەقەیان كرد بوو و ئەمەش شتێكی قورس بوو.

And they were going up, and they finally made it to the peak.

بەردەوام بوون لە سەركەوتن، و لە كۆتاییدا گەیشتنە لوتكە.

Of course, they decided to celebrate, right?

بە دڵنیاییەوە، بڕیاریاندا ئاھەنگ بگێرن، ڕاستە؟

I'm going to celebrate, so, "Yes! We made it, we're at the top!"

من ئاھەنگ دەگێرم، بۆیە، "بەڵێ! ئێمە گەیشتینە لوتكە، سەركەوتین!"

Two seconds later, one looks at the other and says,

دوو چركە دواتر، سەیری یەكتریان دەكرد وتیان،

"OK, let's go down."

"باشە، با بڕۆینە خوارەوە."

Life is never about the goals themselves.

ژیان ھەرگیر پەیوەندی بە ئامانجەكان خۆیانەوە نییە.

Life is about the journey.

ژیان گەشتێكە بەرەو ئامانج.

Yes, you should enjoy the goals themselves,

بەڵێ، دەبێت چێژ لە خودی ئامانجەكان وەربگریت،

but people think that you have dreams,

بەڵام خەڵك پێیانوایە تۆ خەونت ھەیە،

and whenever you get to reaching one of those dreams,

و ھەر كاتێك یەكێك لەم خەونانە بھێتە دی،

it's a magical place where happiness will be all around.

ئەمە ئەو شوێنە دڵڕفێنە كە خۆشی لە ھەموو لایەكەوەیە.

But achieving a dream is a momentary sensation,

بەڵام بەدیھێنانی خەونێك ھەستێكی كاتییە،

and your life is not.

و ژیانت بەم شێوەیە نییە.

The only way to really achieve all of your dreams

تاكە ڕێگە بۆ گەیشتن بە ھەموو خەونەكانت

is to fully enjoy every step of your journey.

ئەوەیە بە گەمژەیی چێژ لە ھەموو ھەنگاوەكانی گەشتەكەت وەربگرە.

That's the best way.

ئەمەش باشترین ڕێگەیە.

And your journey is simple -- it's made of steps.

و گەشتەكەشت سادەیە -- لە كۆمەلە ھەنگاوێك پێك دێت.

Some steps will be right on.

ھەندێك لە ھەنگاوەكان دەبنە ڕاستی.

Sometimes you will trip.

ھەندێك جار بە ھەڵە ھەنگاو دەنێیت.

If it's right on, celebrate, because some people wait a lot to celebrate.

ئەگەر ببنە دی، ئاھەنگ دەگێریت، چونكە بەشێك لە خەڵك چاوەرێی ئاھەنگ گیرانن.

And if you tripped, turn that into something to learn.

و ئەگەر ھەنگاوێكی ھەڵەت بڕی، ھەوڵدە لەوەوە فێر بیت.

If every step becomes something to learn or something to celebrate,

ئەگەر ھەر ھەنگاوێك ببێتە ھۆكار بۆ فێر بوون یان ئاھەنگ گێران،

you will for sure enjoy the journey.

بە دڵنیایەوە چێژ لە گەشتەكەت دەبینی.

So, five tips:

بۆیە، خاڵی پێنجەم:

Believe in overnight success,

باوەرت بە سەركەوتنەكانی خێرا هەبێت

believe someone else has the answers for you,

باوەر كردن بە كەسێكی تر وەڵامی ھەموو پرسیارەكانت دەداتەوە

believe that when growth is guaranteed, you should settle down,

ئەو باوەڕەی کە پێی وایە هەڵەی کەسێکیترە،

believe the fault is someone else's,

باوەرت بەوە بێت ھەڵەكە ھەڵەی تۆ نییە.

and believe that only the goals themselves matter.

باوەڕت بێت کە تەنیا خەونەکانت گرنگن.

Believe me, you do that, and you will destroy your dreams.

باوەڕ بكەن، ئەگەر ئاوا بكەن، و خەونەكانتان لە ناو دەبەن.
