So I thought, "I will talk about death."

" သေခြင်းတရားအကြောင်းပြောမယ်"လို့တွေးမိတယ်

Seemed to be the passion today.

ဒီနေ့ စိတ်ထက်သန်နေပုံ ပေါက်ခဲ့တာပေါ့။

Actually, it's not about death.

တကယ်က သေခြင်းတရား အကြောင်း မဟုတ်ဘူး။

It's inevitable, terrible, but really what I want to talk about is,

ဒါဟာ ရှောင်မရ၊ ဆိုးလှပေမဲ့ ကျွန်မ ပြောချင်တဲ့အကြောင်းပါ၊

I'm just fascinated by the legacy people leave when they die.

လူတွေ သေတဲ့အခါ ချန်ထားတဲ့ အမွေအနှစ်ကို ကျွန်မ စိတ်ဝင်စားမိတယ်။

That's what I want to talk about.

So Art Buchwald left his legacy of humor with a video

that appeared soon after he died, saying,

In the last two years of his life, when he was sick,

he filled a notebook with his thoughts about me.

He wrote about my strengths, weaknesses,

and gentle suggestions for improvement,

တိုးတက်ရေးအတွက် သိမ်မွေ့တဲ့ အကြံပေးချက်တွေကို တိကျတဲ့

quoting specific incidents, and held a mirror to my life.

After he died, I realized that no one writes to me anymore.

Handwriting is a disappearing art.

I'm all for email and thinking while typing,

but why give up old habits for new?

အကျင့်သစ်တွေအတွက် အဟောင်းတွေကို စွန့်လွှတ်ပစ်လိုက်ကြတာလဲ။

Why can't we have letter writing and email exchange in our lives?

ကျွန်မတို့ ဘဝတွေမှာ စာကိုနေရင်းနဲ့ အီးမေးလ် ဖလှယ်လို့ မရနိုင်တာလဲ။

There are times when I want to trade all those years

အဖေနဲ့ ထိုင်ပြီး စကားစမြည်ပြောလို့ မရအောင်ကို အလုပ်များနေတဲ့

that I was too busy to sit with my dad and chat with him,

နှစ်တွေအားလုံးကို လဲပစ်လိုက်ချင်တဲ့ ကာလတွေ ကျွန်မှာရှိခဲ့တယ်၊

and trade all those years for one hug.

ဒီနှစ်တွေ အားလုံးကို ပွေ့ဖက်ခြင်းတစ်ခုနဲ့ လဲပစ်ချင်တာပါ။

But too late.

ဒါပေမဲ့ သိပ်နောက်ကျသွားပါပြီ။

But that's when I take out his letters and I read them,

ဒါပေမဲ့ အဖေ့စာတွေကို ထုတ်ပြီး ဖတ်တော့

and the paper that touched his hand is in mine,

သူ့လက်နဲ့ထိခဲ့တဲ့ စာရွက်တွေက ကျွန်မလက်ထဲမှာဆိုတော့

and I feel connected to him.

သူနဲ့ ဆက်မိသွားသလို ခံစားရပါတယ်။

So maybe we all need to leave our children

ဒီတော့ ဖြစ်နိုင်တာက ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ ကလေးတွေကို ငွေကြေးဆိုင်ရာ

with a value legacy, and not a financial one.

အမွေထက် တန်ဖိုးရှိတဲ့ အမွေအနှစ် တစ်ခု ချန်ထားခဲ့ဖို့လိုပါတယ်။

A value for things with a personal touch --

လူကိုယ်တိုင် ထိတွေ့ထားတဲ့ ပစ္စည်းတွေအတွက် တန်ဖိုးတစ်ခု၊

an autographed book, a soul-searching letter.

လက်မှတ်ထိုးတာတစ်ခု၊ ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကို ဝေဖန်တဲ့ စာတစ်စောင်ပေါ့။

If a fraction of this powerful TED audience

I plan to publish my own notebook.

As I witnessed my father's body being swallowed by fire,

ကျွန်အဖေရဲ့ ကိုယ်ခန္ဓာကို မီးက ဝါးမြိုသွားတာ မျက်မြင်ဒိဋ္ဌတွေ့ရင်း

I sat by his funeral pyre and wrote.

မီးရှို့စင်နားမှာ ထိုင်ပြီး ရေးခဲ့တာပါ။

I have no idea how I'm going to do it,

ဒါကို ဘယ်လိုလုပ်မလဲ

but I am committed to compiling his thoughts and mine

ဆိုတာ မသိပေမဲ့ သူ့အတွေးတွေနဲ့ ကျွန်မအတွေးကို စာအုပ်တစ်အုပ်

into a book, and leave that published book for my son.

အဖြစ်ပေါင်း၊ ပုံနှိပ်ထားတာကို သားကို ချန်ထားဖို့ ရည်စူးထားပါတယ်။

I'd like to end with a few verses of what I wrote

အဖေရဲ့ ဈာပနမှာ ရေးထားတဲ့

at my father's cremation.

လင်္ကာတစ်ချို့နဲ့ နိဂုံးချုပ်ချင်ပါတယ်။

And those linguists, please pardon the grammar,

ဘာသာဗေဒ ပညာရှင်တွေ အနေနဲ့ သဒ္ဒါကို ခွင့်လွှတ်ပေးကြပြပါ ရှင်။

because I've not looked at it in the last 10 years.

ကျွန်မ မကြည့်ဖြစ်တာ ၁၀ နှစ်ကြာနေပြီး

I took it out for the first time to come here.

ဒီကိုလာဖို့ ပထမဆုံး ထုတ်ယူခဲ့တာပါ။

"Picture in a frame, ashes in a bottle,

"ဘောင်ကွပ်ထားတဲ့ ရုပ်ပုံတစ်ပုံ၊ ပုလင်းထဲက ပြာစများ၊

boundless energy confined in the bottle,

အကန့်အသတ်မဲ့တဲ့ စွမ်းအား ပုလင်းထဲမှာ ပိတ်လှောင်ထား၊

forcing me to deal with reality,

လက်တွေ့ဘဝနဲ့ ဆက်ဆဆံဖို့ တွန်းအားပေးနေ

forcing me to deal with being grown up.

အရွယ်ရောက်တာနဲ့ ပတ်သက်ဖို့ တွန်းအားပေးနေ၊

I hear you and I know that you would want me to be strong,

ကြားနေရတယ်၊ ကျွန်မကို ကြံခိုင်သူ ဖြစ်စေချင်မယ် ဆိုတာ သိပါတယ်။

but right now, I am being sucked down, surrounded

ဒါပေမဲ့ အခုတော့ စုပ်မြိုချခံနေရပြီး ပြင်းထန်တဲ့

and suffocated by these raging emotional waters,

ခံစားမှု ရေထုရဲ့ ဝန်းရုံ၊ မွန်းကျပ်နေပါတယ်

craving to cleanse my soul, trying to emerge

စိတ်ကို သန့်စင်ဖို့ တောင့်တရင်း၊ နောက်တစ်ကြိမ် ခိုင်ခိုင်မာမာ

on a firm footing one more time, to keep on fighting and flourishing

ခြေချ ရပ်တည်နိုင်အောင် ကြိုးစားရင်း ဆက်လက် တိုက်ခိုက်ရင်း၊ ရှင်သန်ရှင်း

just as you taught me.

အဖေ သင်ပေးခဲ့သလိုလေ။

Your encouraging whispers in my whirlpool of despair,

ကျွန်မရဲ့ ကြေကွဲတဲ့ ဝဲဂယက်ထဲမှာ အဖေဟာ တိုးတိုးလေး အားပေးနေတယ်၊

holding me and heaving me to shores of sanity,

ဆင်ခြင်တုံတရားရဲ့ ကမ်းစပ်တွေဆီ ကျွန်မကို ဆုပ်ကိုင်ရင်း ပင့်မရင်း ၊

to live again and to love again."

ပြန်ရှင်သန်ဖို့နဲ့ ပြန်ချစ်တတ်ဖို့ပါ။
