So I thought, "I will talk about death."

તો મેં વિચાર્યું, "હું મૃત્યુ પર વાત કરીશ."

Seemed to be the passion today.

આજકાલનો મહત્વનો વિષય એ જ લાગે છે.

Actually, it's not about death.

વાસ્તવમાં મારી વાત મૃત્યુ વિશે નથી.

It's inevitable, terrible, but really what I want to talk about is,

I'm just fascinated by the legacy people leave when they die.

That's what I want to talk about.

So Art Buchwald left his legacy of humor with a video

that appeared soon after he died, saying,

After he died, I realized that no one writes to me anymore.

Handwriting is a disappearing art.

I'm all for email and thinking while typing,

but why give up old habits for new?

પણ જૂની આદતોને નવા માટે શાં માટે બદલવી?

Why can't we have letter writing and email exchange in our lives?

આપણે ચિઠ્ઠીઓ અને ઈ-મેઈલ બંને શાં માટે નથી લખી શકતાં?

There are times when I want to trade all those years

ક્યારેક લાગે છે કે એ બધાં જ વર્ષો

that I was too busy to sit with my dad and chat with him,

કે જ્યારે હું બહું વ્યસ્ત હતી મારા પિતા સાથે બેસીને વાત કરવામાં,

and trade all those years for one hug.

એ બધાં જ વર્ષોનો સોદો કરી દઉં એમના એક આલિંગન માટે.

But too late.

પણ હવે મોડું થઈ ગયું છે.

But that's when I take out his letters and I read them,

પણ ત્યારે હું તેમનાં લખેલાં પત્ર કાઢીને વાચું છું,

and the paper that touched his hand is in mine,

અને એ કાગળ જે એમણે સ્પર્શ કર્યા હતા,

and I feel connected to him.

એને અડીને એમનાથી જોડાણ અનુભવું છું.

So maybe we all need to leave our children

તો આપણે પણ પોતાના બાળકો માટે કઈંક છોડવું જોઈએ

with a value legacy, and not a financial one.

કઈંક વારસા રૂપે, રૂપિયા-પૈસા સિવાય.

A value for things with a personal touch --

પોતાનાં સ્પર્શવાળી મહત્વની વસ્તુઓ -

an autographed book, a soul-searching letter.

કોઈ ઓટોગ્રાફ વાળું પુસ્તક, કોઈ આત્મીય ચિઠ્ઠી.

If a fraction of this powerful TED audience

જો આ ટેડના મહત્વપૂર્ણ પ્રેક્ષકોમાંથી ફક્ત થોડાં જ,

could be inspired to buy a beautiful paper --

એક સુંદર કાગળ લેવા પ્રેરાય --

John, it'll be a recycled one -- and write a beautiful letter

કદાચ, એ રીસાઇકલ્ડ હશે -- અને એક સુંદર પત્ર લખે,

to someone they love, we actually may start a revolution

where our children may go to penmanship classes.

So what do I plan to leave for my son?

I collect autographed books, and those of you authors

એક પુસ્તકમાં, અને એ પ્રકાશિત કરી પોતાનાં પુત્ર માટે છોડી જઈશ.

I'd like to end with a few verses of what I wrote

અંતમાં પોતાની કંઇક પંક્તિઓ કહીશ,

at my father's cremation.

જે પિતાજીના અગ્નિદાહ વખતે લખી હતી.

And those linguists, please pardon the grammar,

અને ભાષાવિદ્, મારા વ્યાકરણની ભૂલો માફ કરજો,

because I've not looked at it in the last 10 years.

કારણકે મેં છેલ્લાં દસ વર્ષથી એને ખોલી નથી.

I took it out for the first time to come here.

અહીંયા આવવા માટે જ એને બહાર કાઢી છે.

"Picture in a frame, ashes in a bottle,

boundless energy confined in the bottle,

forcing me to deal with reality,

તાણે છે મને વાસ્તવિકતાને સ્વીકારવા,

forcing me to deal with being grown up.

તાણે છે મને યુવાનીને સ્વીકારવા.

I hear you and I know that you would want me to be strong,

હું સાંભળું છું તમને, તમે મને જોવા માંગો છો શસક્ત,

but right now, I am being sucked down, surrounded

પણ અત્યારે, હું આ તણાવ વચ્ચે, થઈ રહી છું અશક્ત,

and suffocated by these raging emotional waters,

craving to cleanse my soul, trying to emerge

Your encouraging whispers in my whirlpool of despair,

મારાં નિરાશાના વમળમાં તમારો પ્રોત્સાહક અવાજ,

holding me and heaving me to shores of sanity,

ઝાલે છે મને અને ખેંચે છે મને સમજણના કિનારે,

to live again and to love again."
