Humanity takes center stage at TED,

مرۆڤایەتى چەقی شانۆی TEDگرتووە،

but I would like to add a voice for the animals,

بەڵام حەزدەکەم دەنگى ئاژەڵانیش زیاد بکەم،

whose bodies and minds and spirits shaped us.

کەوا جەستەیان و مێشکیان و گیانیان ئێمەى پۆشیووە.

Some years ago, it was my good fortune

چەند ساڵک لەمەو بەر، ئەوا بەختى باشى من بوو

to meet a tribal elder on an island

بۆ ئەوەى چاوم بە گەورەى هۆزى دورگەکە بکەوێ

not far from Vancouver.

لە ڤانکۆڤەر دوور نییە.

His name is Jimmy Smith,

ئەو ناوى جیمى سمیثە،

and he shared a story with me

وچیرۆکێکى لەگەڵ من هاوبەش کرد

that is told among his people,

کەوا لە نێو خەڵکەکەى دەگووترا،

who call themselves the Kwikwasut'inuxw.

کە بە خۆیان دەگووت کویکواسوتەنوک.

Once upon a time, he told me,

ڕۆژێک لە ڕۆژان، ئەو پێی گووتم،

all animals on Earth were one.

هەموو ئاژەڵەکانى سەر زەوی یەک بوون.

Even though they look different on the outside,

لەگەڵ ئەوەى ئەوان لە دەرەوە جیا دەردەکەونم،

inside, they're all the same,

لە ناوەوە ، هەموویان وەک یەکن،

and from time to time they would gather

و جاروبار ئەوان کۆ دەبنەوە

at a sacred cave deep inside the forest

لە ئەشکەوتە قوڵە ترسناکەکەى نێو دارستانەکە

to celebrate their unity.

بۆ گێڕانى ئاهەنگى یەکگرتنیان.

When they arrived,

کاتێک دەگەڕێنەوە،

they would all take off their skins.

ئەوان پێستەکانیان دادەکەن.

Raven shed his feathers, bear his fur,

قەڵەڕەش پەڕەکانى فڕێ دەدات، ورچ توکەکە،

and salmon her scales,

وسەلەموون پولەکەکان،

and then, they would dance.

و دوایی، ئەوان سەما دەکەن.

But one day, a human made it to the cave

بەڵام ڕۆژێک، مرۆڤ ئەوەى بۆ ئەشکەوتەکە درووست کرد

and laughed at what he saw

و پێکەنى بەوەى کە بینى

because he did not understand.

لەبەر ئەوەى ئەو تێنەدەگەیشت.

Embarrassed, the animals fled,

بە شەرمەزاریەوە، ئاژەڵەکان ڕایانکرد،

and that was the last time

و ئەمە دواینجار بوو

they revealed themselves this way.

ئەوان بەم شێوەیە خۆیان دەرخست.

The ancient understanding that underneath

تێگەیشتنە کۆنەکە کەوا لە ژێر

their separate identities, all animals are one,

ناسنامە جیاکانیان، هەموو ئاژەڵەکان یەک بوون،

has been a powerful inspiration to me.

سروشێکى بەهێزبوو بۆ من .

I like to get past the fur, the feathers

حەز دەکەم تووکەکە تێپەڕ بکەم، پەڕەکان

and the scales.

و پولەکەکان.

I want to get under the skin.

دەمەوێت بە ژێرەوەى پێستەکە بگەم.

No matter whether I'm facing a giant elephant

گرینگ نییە ئەگەر من ڕووبەڕووى فیلێکى گەورە ببمەوە

or a tiny tree frog,

یان بۆقێکى بچوکى درەخت،

my goal is to connect us with them, eye to eye.

ئامانجى من بەستنەوەمانە لەگەڵ ئەوان، ڕێککەوتن.

You may wonder, do I ever photograph people?

ڕەنگە سەرسام بیت، ئایا من هەرگیز وێنەى خەڵکم گرتووە؟

Sure. People are always present in my photos,

بەدڵنیایەوە. هەمیشە خەڵک لە وێنەکانم ئامادەن،

no matter whether they appear

گرینگ نییە گەر ئەوان دەربکەون

to portray tortoises

بۆ وێنەگرتنى کیسەڵەکان

or cougars

یاخو پشیلە کێویەکان

or lions.

یان شێرەکان.

You just have to learn how to look past their disguise.

تر تەنها پێویستە فێر بیت چۆن سەیرى دواوەى حەشارگەکەیان بکەیت.

As a photographer,

وەک وێنەگرێک،

I try to reach beyond the differences

هەوڵ دەدەم بگەمە سەرووى جیاوازیەکان

in our genetic makeup

لە تێکەڵەى بۆ ماوەیمان

to appreciate all we have in common

بۆ نەرخاندنى هەموو ئەو هاوبەشیانەى کە هەمانە

with every other living thing.

لەگەڵ هەموو زیدنەوەرەکانى تر.

When I use my camera,

کاتێک من کامێراکەم بەکار دێنم،

I drop my skin

پێستم دڵۆپ دەکەم

like the animals at that cave

وەکو ئاژەڵەکانى ئەم ئەشکەوتە

so I can show who they really are.

بۆیە دەتوانم پیشانتان بدەم ئەوان بەڕاستى کێن.

As animals blessed

وەکو پیرۆزى ئاژەڵەکان

with the power of rational thought,

لەگەڵ هێزى بیرکردنەوەى هۆشیارى،

we can marvel at the intricacies of life.

دەتوانى بە ئاڵۆزى ژیان سەرسام بین.

As citizens of a planet in trouble,

وەک هاوڵاتیەکان لەسەر هەسارەیەکى لە کێشەدا،

it is our moral responsibility

ئەوا بەرپرسیاریەتیەکى ڕەوشتیمانە

to deal with the dramatic loss in diversity of life.

بۆ مامەڵەکردن لەگەڵ لە دەستانى دراماتیکى لە هەمەجۆرى ژیان دا.

But as humans with hearts,

بەڵام وەک مرۆڤەکان لەگەڵ دڵەکانیان،

we can all rejoice in the unity of life,

هەموومان دەتوانین لەیەکگرتووی ژیان شادومان بین،

and perhaps we can change

و پێش ئەوە دەتوانین بگۆڕێین

what once happened in that sacred cave.

ئەوەى جارێک لەو ئەشکەوتە پیرۆزە ڕوویدا.

Let's find a way to join the dance.

با ڕێگەیەک بۆ بەشداری کردنى سەماکە بدۆزینەوە.
