This is the exact moment

ئەمە ئەو ساتەیە کە دەستمکرد بە دروستکردنی شتێک

that I started creating something called Tinkering School.

کە پێی دەڵێن قوتابخانەی بەهرەداران.

Tinkering School is a place where kids can pick up sticks

قوتابخانەی بەهرەداران شوێنێکە کە منداڵان دەتوانن دار و

and hammers and other dangerous objects,

چەکوش و تەنە مەترسیدارەکانی تر هەڵگرن،

and be trusted.

تەواو جێی متمانەیە.

Trusted not to hurt themselves,

جێی متمانەیە کە خۆیان بریندار نەکەن،

and trusted not to hurt others.

هەروەها یەکتریش بریندار ناکەن.

Tinkering School doesn't follow a set curriculum,

قوتابخانەی بەهرەداران پەیڕەوی هیچ دەستەیەک ناکا،

and there are no tests.

هیچ تاقیکردنەوەیەکیش نیە.

We're not trying to teach anybody any specific thing.

هەوڵیش بۆ فێرکردنی هیچ شتێکی تایبەت نادەین.

When the kids arrive

کاتێک مناڵەکان دێن

they're confronted with lots of stuff:

ڕووبەڕووی هەندێک شت دەبنەوە:

wood and nails and rope and wheels,

دار و حەبل و بزمار لەگەڵ چەرخ،

and lots of tools, real tools.

کۆمەڵێک ئامێر، ئامێری ڕاستەقینە.

It's a six-day immersive experience for the kids.

ئەمە وەرگرتنێکی ئەزموونێکی شەش ڕۆژەیە بۆ منداڵەکان.

And within that context, we can offer the kids time --

و لەم بوارەدا، دەتوانین کات بە منداڵەکان ببەخشین --

something that seems in short supply

شتێک کەوا کاتی زۆریان لێ نەبات

in their over-scheduled lives.

لە ژیانە سەرقاڵەکەیاندا.

Our goal is to ensure that they leave

ئامانجمان ئەوەیە کاتێک ئێرە جێ دێڵن

with a better sense of how to make things

بەتێگەیشتنێکی باشتر بۆدروستکردنی شتەکان

than when they arrived,

لە چاو ئەو کاتەی کە دێن بۆ فێرگەکە،

and the deep internal realization

ڕاستیەکی ناوەکی هەیە

that you can figure things out by fooling around.

دەتوانیت شتەکان بدۆزیتەوە بە گەوجکردنی چواردەورت.

Nothing ever turns out as planned ... ever.

هیچ شتێک وەکو ئەوە ناڕوا کە پیلانت بۆ داناوە، هەرگیز.

And the kids soon learn

و مناڵەکان بە زووی فێردەبن

that all projects go awry --

کە هەموو پڕۆژەکان سەرناگرن ---

and become at ease with the idea that every step

لەگەڵ ئەم بیرۆکەیە ڕابێیت کە هەموو هەنگاوێک

in a project is a step closer

لە پڕۆژەیەکدا هەنگاوێک نزیکترە

to sweet success,

بۆ سەرکەوتنێکی شیرین،

or gleeful calamity.

یان ڕووداوێکی شاد.

We start from doodles and sketches.

ئێمە بە وێنەکێشان و نەخشە کێشان دەستپێدەکەین.

And sometimes we make real plans.

و هەندێکجار پلانی ڕاستەقینە دروست دەکەین.

And sometimes we just start building.

و هەندێکجار دەست دەکەین بە دروستکردن.

Building is at the heart of the experience:

دروستکردن بریتییە لە دڵی ئەزموونەکە:

hands on, deeply immersed

لە ڕێگەی دەستەکانتەوە، سەرنجدانی تەواوت

and fully committed to the problem at hand.

و تەواو خۆت تەرخان بکەیت بۆ کێشەی بەردەستت.

Robin and I, acting as collaborators,

من و ڕۆبن، وەک هاوکاریکەرێکین،

keep the landscape of the projects

چاودێری پڕۆژەکە دەکەین

tilted towards completion.

بۆ ئەوەی بەرەو تەواوبوون بڕوات.

Success is in the doing,

سەرکەوتن لە کردندایە،

and failures are celebrated and analyzed.

و شکستەکانیش ئاهەنگی بۆ دەگێڕدرێ و شیکردنەوەی بۆ دەکرێت،

Problems become puzzles

کێشەکان دەبن بە مەتەڵ

and obstacles disappear.

و بەربەستەکان نامێنن.

When faced with particularly difficult

کاتێک بە شێوەییەک بەرەنگاری ببینەوە

setbacks or complexities,

هەرەس هێنان بێت یان بە ئاڵۆزی،

a really interesting behavior emerges: decoration.

هەڵسوکەوتێکی سەرسامکەر دروست دەبێت: جوانکاری.

Decoration of the unfinished project

جوانکاری پڕۆژە تەواونەکراوەکە

is a kind of conceptual incubation.

From these interludes come deep insights

لەم پشووانەوە بیری دووربینیان بۆ دێت

and amazing new approaches to solving the problems

و ڕێگەی نوێی ناوازە بۆ چارەسەرکردنی کێشەکان

that had them frustrated just moments before.

کە چەند ساتێک لەمەوبەر بێ ئومێدی کردبوو.

All materials are available for use.

هەموو کەرەستەکان بەردەستن بۆ بەکارهێنان.

Even those mundane, hateful, plastic grocery bags

تەنانەت ئەو کیسە، پلاستیکەی ڕقلێبووە،

can become a bridge

دەکرێت ببێت بە پردێکی

stronger than anyone imagined.

بەهێزتر کە هەرکەسێک وێنای دەکرد.

And the things that they build

و ئەو شتانەی دروستی دەکەن

amaze even themselves.

تەنانەت خۆشیان سەرسام دەکات.
