I'm here to share my photography.

আমি আজ এখানে আমার তোলা ছবি দেখাতে এসেছি।

Or is it photography?

কিন্তু এটাকে কি ছবি বলব?

Because, of course, this is a photograph

এটা অবশ্যই ছবি তবে

that you can't take with your camera.

ক্যামেরা দিয়ে তোলা সম্ভব নয়।

Yet, my interest in photography started

১৫ বছর বয়সে

as I got my first digital camera

যেদিন প্রথম ডিজিটাল ক্যামেরা

at the age of 15.

সেদিন থেকেই আমি আলোকচিত্রে আগ্রহী হই।

It mixed with my earlier passion for drawing,

ছবি আঁকার নেশা মিশেছিল ছবি তোলাতেও,

but it was a bit different,

যদিও কিছুটা ভিন্নতা ছিল।

because using the camera,

ক্যামেরা ব্যবহারের ক্ষেত্রে

the process was in the planning instead.

আগে পরিকল্পনা করে নিতে হয়।

And when you take a photograph with a camera,

ক্যামেরা দিয়ে ছবি তোলার সময়

the process ends when you press the trigger.

ট্রিগার চাপার পর আর কিছু করার থাকে না।

So to me it felt like photography was more about

আলোকচিত্র তাই ঠিক সময়ে, ঠিক জায়গায় থাকার

being at the right place and the right time.

চেয়েও অনেক বেশি কিছু বোঝায়।

I felt like anyone could do that.

আমি মনে করি যে কেউই তা করতে পারবে।

So I wanted to create something different,

তাই আমি ভিন্ন পথে এগোলাম,

something where the process starts

ন্তুন কিছু করতে চাইলাম

when you press the trigger.

Photos like this:

যেমন, এই ধরণের আলোকচিত্র

construction going on along a busy road.

But it has an unexpected twist.

কিন্তু এক অভিনব চমক রয়েছে এতে।

And despite that,

it retains a level of realism.

এটা বাস্তববাদিতাকেও ধারণ করে।

Or photos like these --

আবার এই ধরণের ছবিগুলোর--

both dark and colorful,

হোক রঙ্গিন বা আলো-আঁধারি,

but all with a common goal

বিষয়বস্তু একটাই

of retaining the level of realism.

বাস্তববাদিতাকে ধারণ করা।

When I say realism,

এক্ষেত্রে বাস্তববাদিতা বলতে

I mean photo-realism.

আমি চিত্র-বাস্তববাদিতা বোঝাচ্ছি।

Because, of course,

মূলত

it's not something you can capture really,

but I always want it to look like it could have been captured somehow

as a photograph.

Photos where you will need a brief moment to think

to figure out the trick.

So it's more about capturing an idea

than about capturing a moment really.

But what's the trick

এই ধরণের ছবিকে বাস্তব করে

that makes it look realistic?

তোলার কৌশলটা কী?

Is it something about the details

এটা কি রঙের উপর নির্ভর করে?

or the colors?

না অন্যান্য খুঁটিনাটি বিষয়ের উপর?

Is it something about the light?

আলো কি ভূমিকা রাখে?

What creates the illusion?

দৃষ্টি বিভ্রম তৈরি হয় কী করে?

Sometimes the perspective is the illusion.

অনেক সময় আমাদের দৃষ্টিভঙ্গিও দায়ী।

But in the end, it comes down to how we interpret the world

প্রকৃতপক্ষে, দ্বিমাত্রিক তলে চেনা জগতকে

and how it can be realized on a two-dimensional surface.

ফুটিয়ে তোলার মাধ্যমে এই বিভ্রম তৈরি করা যায়।

It's not really what is realistic,

বাস্তববাদিতা মূলত এমন নয়,

it's what we think looks realistic really.

কিন্তু আমরা এমনি ভাবি।

So I think the basics

আমার মতে মূল বিষয়গুলি

are quite simple.

খুব সহজ।

I just see it as a puzzle of reality

আমি এগুলো ধাঁধাঁ হিসেবে দেখি,

where you can take different pieces of reality and put it together

যেখানে বিভিন্ন সূত্র জোড়া লাগিয়ে

to create alternate reality.

বাস্তবের বিকল্প রূপ তৈরি করা যায়।

And let me show you a simple example.

একটা উদাহরণ দেখাচ্ছি।

Here we have three perfectly imaginable physical objects,

এখানে ৩টি সুষম ভৌত বস্তু দেখা যাচ্ছে,

something we all can relate to living in a three-dimensional world.

বাস্তবে আমরা এগুলো দেখি,

But combined in a certain way,

কিন্তু বিশেষভাবে এই ৩টিকে সাজালে

they can create something that still looks three-dimensional,

নতুন এক বস্তু দেখা যায়,

like it could exist.

মনে হয় এরা বাস্তবে থাকতে পারে,

But at the same time, we know it can't.

কিন্তু এটা বাস্তবে হয় না,

So we trick our brains,

আমরা মস্তিষ্ককে ধোঁকা দেই,

because our brain simply doesn't accept the fact

কারণ যেসব ঘটনা ভিত্তিহীন

that it doesn't really make sense.

সেসব মস্তিষ্ক গ্রহণ করে না।

And I see the same process

আমার ছবি মেলানোর ক্ষেত্রেও

with combining photographs.

আমি একই কাজ করি।

It's just really about combining different realities.

সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা বিষয়গুলি জোড়া লাগাই।

So the things that make a photograph look realistic,

একটা ছবিকে বাস্তব করে তোলে সেসব জিনিস

I think it's the things that we don't even think about,

যেগুলো আমাদের চারপাশেই থাকে

the things all around us in our daily lives.

কিন্তু আমরা গুরুত্ব দেই না।

But when combining photographs,

ছবি জোড়া দেওয়ার সময় এই

this is really important to consider,

ছোট বিষয়েই খেয়াল রাখতে হবে,

because otherwise it just looks wrong somehow.

নয়তো মস্ত ভুল হয়ে যাবে।

So I would like to say that there are three simple rules to follow

কাঙ্ক্ষিত ফল পেতে

to achieve a realistic result.

আমার মতে ৩টি সহজ ধাপ রয়েছে।

As you can see, these images aren't really special.

দেখাই যাচ্ছে, এই ছবিগুলো খুব সাধারণ।

But combined, they can create something like this.

কিন্তু একসাথে মিলিয়ে এমন অসাধারণ কিছু বানানো সম্ভব।

So the first rule is that photos combined

১ম নিয়ম - সংযোজনের প্রতিটা ছবিরই

should have the same perspective.

একটা সাধারণ বিষয়বস্তু থাকতে হবে।

Secondly, photos combined

দ্বিতীয়ত, সবগুলি ছবিতেই

should have the same type of light.

একই রকম আলোর প্রক্ষেপণ থাকবে।

And these two images both fulfill these two requirements --

এই দুইটি ছবিরই সে গুণগুলো রয়েছে

shot at the same height and in the same type of light.

একই উচ্চতা এবং একই ধরনের আলোয় তোলা এগুলো।

The third one is about making it impossible to distinguish

তৃতীয় ছবিটি এমনভাবেই বানানো হয়েছে

where the different images begin and end

যাতে কোথায় ছবি দুইটি শুরু ও শেষ হয়েছে

by making it seamless.

তা কোনভাবেই বোঝা না যায়।

Make it impossible to say

কী করে এই ছবি এল

how the image actually was composed.

তা যেন বোঝা সম্ভব না হয়।

So by matching color, contrast and brightness

দুইটি ছবির সীমারেখায়

in the borders between the different images,

রঙের পার্থক্য, উজ্জ্বলতা মেলাতে হবে,

adding photographic defects

ক্ষেত্রের গভীরতা, বিবর্ণ রঙ ইত্যাদি

like depth of field,

আলোকচিত্রের নিয়ামকের মধ্যে

desaturated colors and noise,

ভারসাম্য এনে আমরা ছবি দুইটির

we erase the borders between the different images

পার্থক্য দূর করতে পারি

and make it look like one single image,

এবং এটাকে একক আলোকচিত্রে রূপ দিতে পারি,

despite the fact that one image

যদিও অনেক ছবিরই

can contain hundreds of layers basically.

একাধিক স্তর থাকতে পারে।

So here's another example.

আরেকটি নমুনা দেখা যাক-

One might think that this is just an image of a landscape

হয়তো মনে হচ্ছে এখানে একটাই দৃশ্য রয়েছে

and the lower part is what's manipulated.

যার নিচের অংশে কারসাজি করা হয়েছে।

But this image is actually entirely composed

প্রকৃতপক্ষে, সম্পূর্ণ ছবিটা তৈরি হয়েছে

of photographs from different locations.

বিভিন্ন স্থানে তোলা ছবি থেকে।

I personally think that it's easier to actually create a place

ব্যক্তিগতভাবে আমি মনে করি কোন জায়গা

than to find a place,

খোঁজার চেয়ে তা তৈরি করা সহজ,

because then you don't need to compromise

কারণ তাহলে তোমাকে তোমার ভাবনার সাথে

with the ideas in your head.

আপোষ করতে হবে না।

But it does require a lot of planning.

তবে এরজন্য যথেষ্ট ভাবতে হবে।

And getting this idea during winter,

এই চিন্তা যখন শীতকালে আমার মাথায় এল,

I knew that I had several months to plan it,

আমি জানতাম আমার ছবির টুকরো টুকরো অংশগুলি

to find the different locations

পরিকল্পনা করার ও বিভিন্ন জায়গা খুঁজে বের করার

for the pieces of the puzzle basically.

জন্য অনেক সময় রয়েছে।

So for example,

আমি একবার মাছ ধরতে গিয়ে

the fish was captured on a fishing trip.

এই মাছটার ছবি তুলি।

The shores are from a different location.

তটভূমি গুলি বিভিন্ন সময়ে তোলা।

The underwater part was captured in a stone pit.

এক পাথুরে গর্ত থেকে নিয়েছি জলনিমগ্ন অংশটুকু।

And yeah, I even turned the house on top of the island red

ওপরের বাড়িগুলি একটু লালচে করেছি

to make it look more Swedish.

যাতে তা সুইডিশ দেখায়।

So to achieve a realistic result,

আলোকচিত্রকে বাস্তব দেখানো

I think it comes down to planning.

পরিকল্পনার ওপর নির্ভর করে।

It always starts with a sketch, an idea.

আমি আগে ভাবি, হাতে আঁকি

Then it's about combining the different photographs.

তারপর ছবিগুলো জোড়া লাগাই।

And here every piece is very well planned.

প্রতিটা ছবি অনেক চিন্তার ফসল।

And if you do a good job capturing the photos,

যদি তুমি খুব ভাল ছবি তুলতে পার,

the result can be quite beautiful

তবে ফলাফল ও ভাল হবে,

and also quite realistic.

এবং বাস্তব বলে মনে হবে।

So all the tools are out there,

আমাদের চারপাশে সবকিছুই আছে,

and the only thing that limits us

আমাদের সৃজনশীলতা , কল্পনা প্রবণতা

is our imagination.

আমাদের স্বতন্ত্র করে।
