I was born in a refugee colony in the capital city of India, New Delhi.

My mother was, well, just a fighter like mothers are.

When I was in my early 20s,

Four years ago,

and I was wondering why would you name a sneaker,

I mean, why would you write back the name of a sneaker to me?

And I asked my 16-year-old daughter, and she enlightened me.

"Adidas" now means "All day I dream about sex."

"Adidas" یعنی «همه روز به سکس فکر می‌کنم» "All day I dream about sex."

It's very difficult to remember.

حفظ کردن این شعر آسان نیست.

Which loosely translates into actually saying

که ترجمه تقریبی آن می شود

that all the books of knowledge that you might read

بشر اگر علم همه کتابها را بخواند

and then go ahead and impart your knowledge

و بعد آن دانش را بازگو کند

through innovation, through creativity, through technology,

از طریق اختراع و ابداع و تکنولوژی،

but mankind will never be the wiser about its future

اما باز هم نمیتواند به آینده خرد بیشتری داشته باشد

unless it is coupled with a sense of love and compassion for their fellow beings.

مگر آن که علم خود را با عشق و شفقت به همنوعانش همراه سازد.

The two and a half alphabets which form the word "प्रेम,"

دو حرف و نصفی از الفبای هندی که کلمه «پریم» "प्रेम" را تشکیل می‌دهند،

which means "love,"

به معنی «عشق» را می‌سازد،

if you are able to understand that

اگر بتوانید این را بفهمید

and practice it,

و تمرینش کنید،

that itself is enough to enlighten mankind.

خودش کافی است تا نوع بشر را روشن کند.

So I truly believe the future "you"

بنابراین من حقیقتا ایمان دارم که «تو» در آینده

has to be a you that loves.

باید تویی باشد که عشق می‌ورزد.

Otherwise it will cease to flourish.

در غیر این صورت از شکوفایی بازمی‌ماند.

It will perish in its own self-absorption.

در خودپسندی خود پژمرده می‌شود.

So you may use your power

پس می توان از قدرت خود استفاده کرد

to build walls

برای ساختن دیوار

and keep people outside,

و بیرون نگاه داشتن مردم،

or you may use it to break barriers and welcome them in.

یا از آن استفاده کرد برای شکستن مرزها و پذیرفتن آنان به داخل.

You may use your faith

می توان از ایمان خود استفاده کرد

to make people afraid

برای ترساندن مردم

and terrify them into submission,

و وحشت افکنی تا تسلیم شوند،

or you can use it to give courage to people

یا می‌توان آن را به کار گرفت برای شهامت دادن

so they rise to the greatest heights of enlightenment.

به مردم تا به بالاترین درجه از روشنگری برسند.

You can use your energy

می‌توان انرژی خود را به کار گرفت

to build nuclear bombs and spread the darkness of destruction,

برای ساخت بمب اتم و گسترش تاریکی و نابودی

or you can use it to spread the joy of light to millions.

یا از آن برای پراکندن شادی و نور به میلیونها انسان بهره گرفت.

You may filthy up the oceans callously and cut down all the forests.

می‌توان بی رحمانه اقیانوسها را آلوده کرد و همه جنگلها را از بیخ برید

You can destroy the ecology,

می توان محیط زیست را نابود کرد،

or turn to them with love

یا این که به یاری عشق

and regenerate life from the waters and trees.

از آبها و درختان به زندگی نفسی دوباره دمید.

You may land on Mars

می‌توان به مریخ رفت

and build armed citadels,

و دژهای مسلح ساخت، یا می‌شود

or you may look for life-forms and species to learn from and respect.

به دنبال حیاتها و گونه‌های دیگر بود تا از آنها یادبگیریم و ارج بنهیم.

And you can use all the moneys we all have earned

و می‌توان تمام پولی را که همه ما درآورده‌ایم

to wage futile wars

برای جنگ‌های عبث به کار گرفت

and give guns in the hands of little children

و سلاح را به دست کودکان کوچک داد

to kill each other with,

تا یکدیگر را بکشند،

or you can use it

یا میتوان از این پول

to make more food

برای تولید خوراک بیشتر استفاده کرد

to fill their stomachs with.

تا با آن شکمشان را سیر کرد.

My country has taught me

سرزمینم به من یاد داد

the capacity for a human being to love is akin to godliness.

گنجایش بشر برای عشق شبیه زهد است.

It shines forth in a world

در جهانی می درخشد

which civilization, I think, already has tampered too much with.

که به نظر من تمدن، آن را تا حد زیادی تحت اراده خود درآورده است.

In the last few days, the talks here, the wonderful people

در چند روز اخیر، نطق‌هایی که اینجا شد، این آدمهای فوق العاده

coming and showing their talent,

که استعداد خود را به نمایش گذاشتند،

talking about individual achievements, the innovation, the technology,

درباره دستاوردهای فردی سخن گفتند، از ابداعات، از تکنولوژی،

the sciences, the knowledge we are gaining by being here

علم و شناختی که از طریق بودن در اینجا حاصل می‌کنیم

in the presence of TED Talks and all of you

در حضور سخنرانی‌های TED و همه شما

are reasons enough for us to celebrate the future "us."

دلایل کافی هستند تا «ما» ی آینده را جشن بگیریم

But within that celebration

اما در این جشن

the quest to cultivate our capacity for love and compassion

جست و جو برای توسعه ظرفیت ما برای عشق و شفقت

has to assert itself, has to assert itself,

باید مورد تاکید قرار گیرد،

just as equally.

به همان میزان.

So I believe the future "you"

پس به اعتقاد من «تو»ی آینده

is an infinite you.

توی بی‌کران است.

It's called a chakra in India, like a circle.

در هند اسمش چاکرا است مثل یک دایره است.

It ends where it begins from to complete itself.

از نقطه پایان خود آغاز می شود تا خود را تکمیل سازد.

A you that perceives time and space differently

تویی که از زمان و مکان دریافت دیگری دارد

understands both

هر دو را می‌فهمد

your unimaginable

اهمیت غیرقابل تصور

and fantastic importance

و شگرف تو

and your complete unimportance in the larger context of the universe.

و بی اهمیتی مطلق تو در بی کرانگی عالم هستی.

A you that returns back

تویی که بازمی‌گردد

to the original innocence of humanity,

به معصومیت اصیل بشریت،

which loves from the purity of heart,

همانی که از خلوص قلب عشق می‌ریزد،

which sees from the eyes of truth,

که از چشم حقیقت می‌بیند،

which dreams from the clarity of an untampered mind.

که از زلالی یک ذهن بکر رویا می‌بیند،

The future "you" has to be

«تو»ی آینده باید مانند ستاره سینمای

like an aging movie star

پا به سن گذاشته ای باشد

who has been made to believe that there is a possibility

که آفریده شده تا ایمان داشته باشد

of a world which is completely,

امکان جهانی هست که کاملا،

wholly, self-obsessively

یکسره، خوددانسته،

in love with itself.

بر خودش عاشق باشد.

A world -- really, it has to be a you

جهانی که -- واقعا، باید «تو»یی باشد

to create a world

تا جهانی بسازد

which is its own best lover.

که بهترین عاشق خودش باشد.

That I believe, ladies and gentlemen,

به اعتقاد من، چنین جهانی، خانمها و آقایان،

should be the future "you."

باید «تو»ی آینده باشد.
