I was born in a refugee colony in the capital city of India, New Delhi.

And my father was a freedom fighter.

My mother was, well, just a fighter like mothers are.

my lovely wife Gauri and me decided to have a third child.

It's very difficult to remember.

The two and a half alphabets which form the word "प्रेम,"

"प्रेम,"라는 단어를 완성하는 둘 하고 반절의 알파벳들은

which means "love,"

if you are able to understand that

"사랑"을 의미합니다.

만약 여러분이 "사랑"을 이해할 수 있고

and practice it,

연습한다면

that itself is enough to enlighten mankind.

"사랑"은 그 자체로 인류를 일깨울 수 있습니다.

So I truly believe the future "you"

저는 진심으로 미래의 "당신"이

has to be a you that loves.

"사랑"을 전하는 사람이 될 것임을 믿습니다.

Otherwise it will cease to flourish.

그렇지 않으면 번영은 멈추게 될것이고

It will perish in its own self-absorption.

이기주의에 잠식당하게 될 것입니다.

So you may use your power

여러분은 여러분의 힘을

to build walls

벽을 쌓아서

and keep people outside,

사람들이 들어오지 못하게 할 수도 있지만

or you may use it to break barriers and welcome them in.

벽을 부숴서 그들을 초대하는데 사용할 수도 있습니다.

You may use your faith

여러분은 여러분의 신념을 이용하여

to make people afraid

사람들을 겁먹게하고

and terrify them into submission,

두려움에 떨게하여 굴복하게 만들 수도 있고

or you can use it to give courage to people

또는 그들에게 용기를 주는데 사용하여

so they rise to the greatest heights of enlightenment.

그들을 위대한 경지의 깨달음에 이르게 만들 수도 있습니다.

You can use your energy

여러분은 여러분의 자원으로

to build nuclear bombs and spread the darkness of destruction,

핵무기를 만들어 파멸의 어두움을 퍼트릴 수도 있고

or you can use it to spread the joy of light to millions.

또는 수백만의 사람들에게 기쁨의 빛을 퍼트릴 수도 있습니다.

You may filthy up the oceans callously and cut down all the forests.

You can destroy the ecology,

My country has taught me

the capacity for a human being to love is akin to godliness.

It shines forth in a world

which civilization, I think, already has tampered too much with.

문명사회는, 제가 생각하기에 이미 너무 많이 변형되어있습니다.

In the last few days, the talks here, the wonderful people

지난 며칠간 강연들이 있었고

coming and showing their talent,

talking about individual achievements, the innovation, the technology,

the sciences, the knowledge we are gaining by being here

in the presence of TED Talks and all of you

TED 강연에 참석한 모든 여러분들은

are reasons enough for us to celebrate the future "us."

우리의 미래를 낙관하는데 충분한 이유가 될 수 있을 것 같습니다.

But within that celebration

the quest to cultivate our capacity for love and compassion

So I believe the future "you"

which dreams from the clarity of an untampered mind.

오염되지 않은 투명한 마음으로 꿈을 꾸는

The future "you" has to be

미래의 "당신"은

like an aging movie star

이 세상이 완전하게,

who has been made to believe that there is a possibility

전적으로, 강박적으로

그자신에 대한 사랑에 빠지게 될 것이라는

of a world which is completely,

그 가능성의 존재를 믿게된

wholly, self-obsessively

이 나이들어가는 영화배우와 같을 것입니다.

in love with itself.

A world -- really, it has to be a you

세상는, 정말로 "당신"이어야 합니다.

to create a world

최고의 사랑을 실천하는 사람들이 가득한

which is its own best lover.

그런 세상를 창조해야합니다.

That I believe, ladies and gentlemen,

should be the future "you."
