I was born in a refugee colony in the capital city of India, New Delhi.

Where was I?

Work began to define you at that time

and all the systems started to feel less reliable to me,

It really did.

Like you notice, nobody could make any sense of what was happening except me,

and I was wondering why would you name a sneaker,

And I asked my 16-year-old daughter, and she enlightened me.

Which has alternately been described as ugly, unconventional,

and strangely, not chocolatey enough.

The people of this ancient land

embraced me in their limitless love,

actually resides in its ability

अनुग्रह आणि अनुकंपेच्या क्षमतेत

for grace and compassion.

वास्तव्य करते.

I've learned that whatever moves you,

मी शिकलो कि जिच्याने तुम्हाला चालना मिळते,

whatever urges you to create, to build,

निर्मितीची उभारण्याची तीव्र इच्छा जिच्याने तुम्हाला होते

whatever keeps you from failing,

अपयशापासून तुम्हाला जी दूर ठेवते,

whatever helps you survive,

अस्तित्व टिकवण्यासाठी तुम्हाला मदत करते,

is perhaps the oldest and the simplest emotion known to mankind,

and that is love.

It's very difficult to remember.

ते लक्षात ठेवायला खूप अवघड आहे.

Which loosely translates into actually saying

ज्याचे ढोबळ भाषांतर असे सांगता येईल कि

that all the books of knowledge that you might read

तुम्ही विद्येसाठी कितीही ग्रंथ वाचले

and then go ahead and impart your knowledge

आणि नंतर त्या विद्येचं दान केलंत

through innovation, through creativity, through technology,

नावीन्य, सर्जनशीलता, तंत्रज्ञान वापरून

but mankind will never be the wiser about its future

unless it is coupled with a sense of love and compassion for their fellow beings.

The two and a half alphabets which form the word "प्रेम,"

अडीच अक्षरं ज्याने " प्रेम" हा शब्द तयार होतो

which means "love,"

ज्याचा अर्थ "लव्ह,"

if you are able to understand that

जर तुम्ही तो समजू शकलात

and practice it,

आणि आचरणात आणलात,

that itself is enough to enlighten mankind.

तर मानवजातीला प्रबुद्ध करण्यासाठी तेवढेच पुरेसं आहे.

So I truly believe the future "you"

म्हणून मला खरंच असं वाटतं भविष्यातील

has to be a you that loves.

"तुम्ही" हे प्रेम करणारे असावेत.

Otherwise it will cease to flourish.

नाहीतर मग त्याची भरभराट थांबेल.

It will perish in its own self-absorption.

ते त्याच्या आत्मशोषणाने नाहीसे होईल.

So you may use your power

म्हणून तुम्ही तुमचे सामर्थ्य

to build walls

वापरू शकता भिंती उभारण्यासाठी

and keep people outside,

आणि लोकांना बाहेर ठेऊ शकता,

or you may use it to break barriers and welcome them in.

You may use your faith

In the last few days, the talks here, the wonderful people

गेल्या काही दिवसातील इथली व्याख्यानं कमालीच्या लोकांनी

coming and showing their talent,

येऊन दाखवलेली त्यांची बुद्धिमत्ता,

talking about individual achievements, the innovation, the technology,

वैयक्तिक याशांबद्दल त्यांचं बोलणं, नावीन्य, तंत्रज्ञान,

the sciences, the knowledge we are gaining by being here

शास्त्र, ज्ञान जे आपल्याला या

in the presence of TED Talks and all of you

TED व्याख्यानांतून मिळत आहे आणि तुम्ही सर्वजण

are reasons enough for us to celebrate the future "us."

हि सगळी भविष्यातील "आपण" साजरे करायला पुरेशी कारणं आहेत.

But within that celebration

पण त्या जल्लोषासोबतच

the quest to cultivate our capacity for love and compassion

आपल्यातील प्रेम आणि अनुकंपा वाढवण्याचा शोध

has to assert itself, has to assert itself,

ठाम असायला हवा, ठाम असायला हवा

just as equally.

अगदी तितकाच.

So I believe the future "you"

म्हणून मला वाटतं कि भविष्यातील "तुम्ही"

is an infinite you.

हे अनंत आहात.

It's called a chakra in India, like a circle.

भारतात त्याला चक्र म्हणतात, वर्तुळासारखं.

It ends where it begins from to complete itself.

स्वतःच्या पूर्णतेसाठी जिथे सुरु होते तिथेच ते संपते.

A you that perceives time and space differently

तुम्ही जे काळ आणि अवकाश वेगवेगळे मानता

understands both

तुमचे अकल्पनीय

your unimaginable

आणि विलक्षण महत्व

and fantastic importance

आणि विश्वाच्या समोर असलेले तुमचे

and your complete unimportance in the larger context of the universe.

नगण्यत्व पूर्णपणे जाणता.

A you that returns back

तुम्ही जे परतत आहात

to the original innocence of humanity,

माणुसकीच्या मूळ निरागसतेकडे,

which loves from the purity of heart,

which sees from the eyes of truth,

The future "you" has to be

like an aging movie star

who has been made to believe that there is a possibility

असायला हवे ज्याला हा विश्वास दिलेला असतो कि असं जग असू शकतं

of a world which is completely,

जे पूर्णतः, संपूर्णतः

wholly, self-obsessively

स्वकेंद्रितपणे

in love with itself.

स्वतःच्याच प्रेमात आहे.

A world -- really, it has to be a you

एक जग -- खरंच तुम्हीच ते असायला हवं

to create a world

अशा जगाचे निर्माते

which is its own best lover.

जे स्वतःचाच उत्तम प्रियकर असेल.

That I believe, ladies and gentlemen,

आदरणीय श्रोतेहो, ते मला वाटतं

should be the future "you."

भविष्यातील "तुम्ही" असायला हवं.
