I'm a tourism entrepreneur and a peacebuilder,

but this is not how I started.

When I was seven years old, I remember watching television

and seeing people throwing rocks,

So I got out to the street and threw rocks,

not realizing I was supposed to throw rocks at Israeli cars.

They were not enthusiastic about my patriotism.

This is me, the little one, and I know what you're thinking:

यातला धाकटा म्हणजे मी. तुम्हाला काय वाटतंय, मला ठाऊक आहे:

"You used to look cute, what the heck happened to you?"

किती गोड होतास तू! आणि आता असं काय रे झालं तुझं?

But my brother, who is older than me,

पण माझा भाऊ, माझ्यापेक्षा मोठा आहे तो,

was arrested when he was 18,

वयाच्या अठराव्या वर्षी पकडला गेला.

taken to prison on charges of throwing stones.

दगडफेकीच्या आरोपावरून तो तुरुंगात गेला.

He was beaten up when he refused to confess that he threw stones,

दगडफेकीची कबुली दिली नाही म्हणून त्याला मारहाण करण्यात आली.

and as a result, had internal injuries

त्यामुळे त्याला आंतरिक जखमा झाल्या.

that caused his death soon after he was released from prison.

आणि त्यामुळे, सुटकेनंतर लवकरच त्याचा अंत झाला.

I was angry, I was bitter,

मी चिडलो होतो. कडवा बनलो होतो.

and all I wanted was revenge.

But that changed when I was 18.

I decided that I needed Hebrew to get a job,

and going to study Hebrew in that classroom

was the first time I ever met Jews who were not soldiers.

And we connected over really small things, like the fact that I love country music,

which is really strange for Palestinians.

But it was then that I realized also that we have a wall of anger,

of hatred and of ignorance that separates us.

What really matters is how I deal with it.

And therefore, I decided to dedicate my life

I do so through many ways.

Can it bring down walls? Yes.

Tourism is the best sustainable way to bring down those walls

and to create a sustainable way of connecting with each other

and creating friendships.

In 2009, I cofounded Mejdi Tours,

a social enterprise that aims to connect people,

with two Jewish friends, by the way,

I remember running a trip together with a friend named Kobi --

and there we had this amazing food.

By the way, this is my mother. She's cool.

And that's the Palestinian food called maqluba.

आणि हा तो पेलेस्टिनी पदार्थ, मकलुबे.

It means "upside-down."

म्हणजे "उलटा"

You cook it with rice and chicken, and you flip it upside-down.

तांदूळ आणि चिकन वापरून तो शिजवतात, आणि मग हलकेच उडवून उलटा करतात.

It's the best meal ever.

अगदी अप्रतिम पदार्थ आहे हा.

And we'll eat together.

आम्ही एकत्र जेवलो.

Then we had a joint band, Israeli and Palestinian musicians,

and we did some belly-dancing.

Imagine with me if the one billion people

who travel internationally every year travel like this,

not being taken in the bus from one side to another,

from one hotel to another,

taking pictures from the windows of their buses of people and cultures,

but actually connecting with people.

You know, I remember having a Muslim group from the U.K.

going to the house of an Orthodox Jewish family,

and having their first Friday night dinners, that Sabbath dinner,

प्रथमच त्यांचं पहिल्या शुक्रवारचं सब्बाथचं जेवण जेवणारा.

and eating together hamin, which is a Jewish food, a stew,

त्यांच्याबरोबर "हमीन" -ज्यू पद्धतीचा स्ट्यू -चा आस्वाद घेणारा.

just having the connection of realizing, after a while,

नंतर त्यांच्या लक्षात आलं, की

that a hundred years ago, their families came out

शेकडो वर्षांपूर्वी दोन्ही वंश उत्तर आफ्रिकेत,

of the same place in Northern Africa.

एकाच ठिकाणी उगम पावले होते.
