Today I have just one request.

Now I'd like to introduce you to my brothers.

अब में आपको मेरे भाइयों से मिलवाना चाहती हू.

Remi is 22,

रेमी २२ साल का है,

tall and very handsome.

लंबा चौड़ा और बहुत तंदुरुस्त.

He's speechless, but he communicates joy

वो बोल नही सकता पर उसकी खुशी बोलती है

in a way that some of the best orators cannot.

और वो किसी वक्ता से कम नही है.

Remi knows what love is.

रेमी को पता है कि प्यार क्या है.

He shares it unconditionally and he shares it regardless.

और वो आसंबंध और बेपरवाह होके प्यार करता है.

He's not greedy. He doesn't see skin color.

वो लालची नही है. उसे रंग में भेद भाव नही समझता.

He doesn't care about religious differences, and get this:

He has never told a lie.

When he sings songs from our childhood,

जब वो हमारे बचपन के गीत गाता है,

attempting words that not even I could remember,

he reminds me of one thing:

how little we know about the mind, and how wonderful

the unknown must be.

Samuel is 16. He's tall. He's very handsome.

He has the most impeccable memory.

He has a selective one, though.

मगर वो चयनात्मक है.

He doesn't remember if he stole my chocolate bar,

but he remembers the year of release for every song on my iPod,

conversations we had when he was four,

Don't they sound incredible?

But most people don't agree.

पर बहुत से लोग ये नही मानते.

And in fact, because their minds don't fit

और असल में, क्योकि उनका दिमाग़ इस

into society's version of normal,

समाज के साधारण रूप में नही बैठता,

they're often bypassed and misunderstood.

अक्सर समाज उनको बाहर निकलता है या ग़लत समझता है.

But what lifted my heart and strengthened my soul

was that even though this was the case,

although they were not seen as ordinary,

this could only mean one thing:

that they were extraordinary --

autistic and extraordinary.

Now, for you who may be less familiar with the term "autism,"

अब आप लोग जो "स्वालिन" शब्द के बारे मे कम जानते है,

it's a complex brain disorder that affects social communication,

ये एक पेचीदा दिमागी विकार है, जो सामाजिक संपर्क,

learning and sometimes physical skills.

नई चीज़ सीखने पे और शारीरिक कुशलता पे प्रभाव डालता है.

It manifests in each individual differently,

ये हर इंसान में अलग तरह से प्रदर्शित होता है,

hence why Remi is so different from Sam.

इसी कारण से रेमी सॉम से इतना अलग है.

And across the world, every 20 minutes, one new person

और दुनिया में, हर २० मिनट में, एक नये व्यक्ति

is diagnosed with autism, and although it's one of

And I cannot remember the first moment I encountered autism,

I was just three years old when my brother came along,

and I was so excited that

I had a new being in my life.

And after a few months went by,

और फिर थोड़े महीनो के बाद,

I realized that he was different.

मुझे मालूम पड़ा के वो थोड़ा अलग है.

He screamed a lot.

वो बहुत चिल्लाता था.

He didn't want to play like the other babies did,

बाकी बच्चो की तरह खेलना उसको पसंद नही था,

and in fact, he didn't seem

और सच्चाई तो ये है, उसको

very interested in me whatsoever.

मुझमें ज़रा भी दिलचस्पी नही थी.

Remi lived and reigned in his own world, with his own rules,

रेमी अपने ही दुनिया में जीता और राज करता था, उसके अपने नियमो के साथ,

and he found pleasure in the smallest things,

और वो छोटी छोटी चीज़ो में आनंद पाता था,

like lining up cars around the room

जेसे कमरे के इर्दगिर्द लाइन मे मोटर गाड़ियों को लगाना

and staring at the washing machine

और वॉशिंग मशीन को घूरते रहना

and eating anything that came in between.

और बीच मे जो मिले वो खाना.

And as he grew older, he grew more different,

और वो जैसे ही बढ़ता गया, और भी अलग होता गया,

and the differences became more obvious.

और उसकी असमानता स्पष्ट दिखने लगी.

Yet beyond the tantrums and the frustration

मगर उसके गुस्से का आवेश और निराशा के बावजूद

and the never-ending hyperactivity

और उसका कभी ना ख़तम होने वाला जोश

was something really unique:

बहुत ही अनोखा था:

a pure and innocent nature, a boy who saw the world

बहुत ही शुद्ध और सरल विचार, एक लड़का जो जमाने को

without prejudice, a human who had never lied.

बिना किसी पूर्वधारना से देखता था, एक इंसान जिसने कभी झूट नही बोला था.

Extraordinary.

Now, I cannot deny that there have been

अब ये ग़लत नही है कि हमारे

some challenging moments in my family,

परिवार मे बहुत सारी कठिन पल आये थे,

moments where I've wished that they were just like me.

ऐसी पल जिनमे मैं प्रार्थना करती थी, वो मेरे जैसे हो.

But I cast my mind back to the things that they've taught me

पर फिर में मेरा दिमाग़ उन चीज़ो पे लाती हू जो उन्होने मुझे सिखाई है

about individuality and communication and love,

व्यक्तित्वा, संपर्क और प्यार,

and I realize that these are things that

और मुझे ये समझ मे आया है कि ये सब चीज़े

I wouldn't want to change with normality.

मैं साधारणता के लिए नही बदल सकती.

Normality overlooks the beauty that differences give us,

साधारणता असाधारण सुंदरता को अनदेखा करती है.

and the fact that we are different doesn't mean that one of us is wrong.

और सच्चाई तो ये है के हम असाधारण है इसका मतलब ये नही के हम मे से एक ग़लत है.

It just means that there's a different kind of right.

इसका मतलब ये है की दोनो अलग तरह से सही है.

And if I could communicate just one thing to Remi

और में अगर एक चीज़ रेमी को बता सकु

and to Sam

और सैम को भी

and to you,

और आप को भी

it would be that you don't have to be normal.

वो ये है कि आपको साधारण होने की ज़रूरत नही है.

You can be extraordinary.

आप असाधारण भी हो सकते है.

Because autistic or not,

क्योंकि स्वालिन हो या नही,

the differences that we have --

हम लोगो मे जो भिन्नता है--

We've got a gift! Everyone's got a gift inside of us,

हमे एक बक्षिश मिला है, सबको आपने अंदर एक भेट मिली है,

and in all honesty, the pursuit of normality

और इस सब मे सच्चाई, साधारणता का पीछा,

is the ultimate sacrifice of potential.

हमारे कार्यक्षमता का बलिदान है.

The chance for greatness, for progress and for change

महान होने की, या आगे बढ़ने की, सब बदलने की संभावना

dies the moment we try to be like someone else.

उसी समय खत्म हो जाती है जब हम किसी और की तरह होना चाहते है.

Please -- don't tell me I'm normal.
