Roughly 43,000 years ago,

Now, the standard story is that computers descend from military technology,

In fact, the very first typewriter

About a thousand years ago,

three brothers in Baghdad designed a device

Now, the instrument was basically a giant music box.

In the 1700s, music-making machines

to control the physical movements of what were called automata,

One of the most famous of those robots
