What is history?

သမိုင်းဆိုတာဘာလဲ။

It is something written by the winners.

အောင်ပွဲခံသူတွေ ရေးကြတဲ့အရာပါ။

There is a stereotype that history should be focused on the rulers,

သမိုင်းဟာ Lenin ဒါမှမဟုတ် Trotsky တို့လို အုပ်ချုပ်သူတွေကိုပဲ အာရုံစိုက်သင့်တယ်

like Lenin or Trotsky.

ဆိုတာက သမားရိုးကျ ပုံစံတစ်ခုပါ။

As a result, people in many countries, like mine, Russia,

အကျိုးဆက်အနေနဲ့က ကျွန်တော့နိုင်ငံ ရုရှားမှာလိုပဲ နိုင်ငံများစွာကလူတွဟာ

look at history as something that was predetermined

သမိုင်းဆိုတာ ခေါင်းဆောင်တွေကနေ ကြိုတင်ပြဋ္ဌာန်းတာ(သို့) ပြဋ္ဌာန်းတဲအရာ၊

or determined by the leaders,

သာမန်လူထုက ဘယ်နည်းနဲ့မှ

and common people could not influence it in any way.

သြဇာလွမ်းမိုးမှုမရှိနိုင်တဲ့အရာလို့ ကြည့်မြင်ကြတယ်။

Many Russians today do not believe that Russia could ever have been

ယနေ့ရုရှားအတော် များများဟာ ရုရှားဟာ စစ်မှန်တဲ့ ဒီမိုကရက်တစ်နိုင်ငံ

or ever will be a truly democratic nation,

ဖြစ်မလာနိုင်ခဲ့ဘူး၊ ဖြစ်မလာနိုင်ဘူးလို့ ယုံကြည်ကြပြီး

and this is due to the way history has been framed

to the citizens of Russia.

To prove it, I spent two years of my life trying to go 100 years back,

to the year 1917,

the year of the Russian Revolution.

I asked myself, what if the internet and Facebook existed 100 years ago?

ကိုယ့်ကိုယ်ကိုမေးတာက လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ နှစ် ၁၀၀ က အင်တာနက်၊ Facebook တို့ရှိခဲ့မယ်ဆိုရင်ရော။

So last year, we built a social network for dead people,

We watch all those personalities being ordinary people like you and me,

not demigods,

ဒီပုဂ္ဂိုလ်ကျော်အားလုံးကို ကြည့်ပြီး

and we see that history consists of their mistakes, fears, weaknesses,

သမိုင်းဟာ သူတို့ရဲ့ "ပါရမီရှင် စိတ်ကူးတွေ" သာမက သူတို့ရဲ့အမှားတွေ၊ ကြောက်စိတ်တွေ

not only their "genius ideas."

အားနည်းချက်တွေပါ ပါဝင်နေတာကို မြင်ရပါတယ်။

Our project was a shock for many Russians,

who used to think that our country has always been an autocratic empire

and the ideas of freedom and democracy could never have prevailed,

just because democracy was not our destiny.

But if we take a broader look,

it's not that black and white.

Yes, 1917 led to 70 years of communist dictatorship.

ဟုတ်တယ်၊ ၁၉၁၇ ဟာ နှစ် ၇၀ ကြာ ကွန်မြူနစ် အာဏာရှင်စနစ်ဆီ ဦးတည်ခဲ့တယ်။

But with this project, we see that Russia could have had a different history

ဒါပေမဲ့ ဒီပရာဂျက်ရဲ့ကျေးဇူးကြောင့် အခြား နိုင်ငံတိုင်းလိုပဲ ရုရှားဟာလည်း ကွဲပြားတဲ့

and a democratic future, as any other country could or still can.

Reading the posts from 1917,

၁၉၁၇ တုန်းက စာတွေကို ဖတ်ကြည့်ရင်း

you learn that Russia was the first country in the world

ရုရှားဟာ သေဒဏ်ဖျက်သိမ်းခဲ့တဲ့ ကမ္ဘာ့ပထမဦးဆုံးနိုင်ငံ ဖြစ်ခဲ့တာ

to abolish the death penalty,

(သို့) အမျိုးသမီးတွေကို မဲပေးခွင့်ပြုတဲ့

or one of the first ones to grant women voting rights.

ပထမဆုံးနိုင်ငံတွေထဲက တစ်ခုဖြစ်ခဲ့တာ သင်သိရပါတယ်။

Knowing history and understanding how ordinary people influenced history

သမိုင်းကို သိရှိခြင်းနဲ့ သာမန်လူတွေက သမိုင်းအား သြဇာလွမ်းခဲ့ပုံကို နားလည်ကြရင်

can help us create a better future,

ပိုကောင်းတဲ့အနာဂတ်ကို ဖန်တီးရာမှာ ကူပေးနိုင်တယ်။

because history is just a rehearsal of what's happening right now.

We do need new ways of telling history,

But we are making that history alive

ဒီလို ဖြစ်နိုင်ရဲ့လား။

And we see that a lot of individuals

လူတစ်ဦးချင်းစီဟာ အလားတူ စိန်ခေါ်မှုတွေကို

were facing the same challenges and were fighting for the same values,

ရင်ဆိုင်နေရပြီး အလားတူတန်းဖိုးတွေအတွက် တိုက်ပွဲဝင်နေတာ ကျန်ုပ်တို့ မြင်နိုင်တယ်။

no matter if they lived in the US or in USSR

အမေရိက၊ ရုရှား၊ ပြင်သစ်၊ တရုတ်

or in France or in China or in Czechoslovakia.

By exposing history in such a democratic way,

လူမှုမီဒီယာတွေကနေ

through social media,

သမိုင်းကို တင်ပြပေးခြင်းက၊

we show that people in power are not the only ones making choices.

ရွေးချယ်မှုတွေကို လုပ်ကိုင်နေကြတာ အာဏာ ရှိသူတွေ မဟုတ်တာကို ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ ပြသပါတယ်။

That gives any user a possibility of reclaiming history.

Ordinary people matter.

They have an impact.

Ideas matter.

Journalists, scientists, philosophers matter.

သတင်းသမားတွေ၊ သိပ္ပံပညာရှင်တွေ၊ ဒဿနပညာရှင်တွေဟာ အရေးပါတယ်။

We shape society.

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့က လူ့အဖွဲ့အစည်းကို ပုံဖော်ပေးကြတယ်။

We all make history.

ကျွန်ုပ်တို့ အားလုံး သမိုင်းကို ဖန်တီးနေကြတယ်။
