What I wanted to talk to you about today is two things:

ئەو شتەی کە من ویستم ئەمڕۆ قسەی لەسەر بکەم بۆ ئێوە دوو شتە:

one, the rise of a culture of availability;

یەک، بەرزبوونەوەی ڕێژەی بەکارهێنانە؛

and two, a request.

So we're seeing a rise of this availability

کەواتە بەرزبونەوەی ئەم بەکارهێنانە دەبینین

being driven by mobile device proliferation,

globally, across all social strata.

بە ناو هەموو چینەکانی کۆمەڵگا و جیهاندا.

We're seeing, along with that proliferation of mobile devices,

دەبینین، لەگەڵ زیادبوونی ژمارەی ئامێری مۆبایل،

an expectation of availability.

بەکارهێنانیشی بە ڕێژەیەکی بەرچاوە.

And, with that, comes the third point,

و، لەگەڵ ئەمەشدا خاڵی سێیەم دێت،

which is obligation -- and an obligation to that availability.

کە ناچارییە--و ناچاریکردنە بۆ ئەم بەکارهێنانە.

And the problem is, we're still working through,

و کێشەکە ئەوەیە، ئێمە تا ئێستا کاری لێدەکەین،

from a societal standpoint,

لە بۆچوونێکی کۆمەڵایەتییەوە،

how we allow people to be available.

چۆن ئێمە ڕێگە بە خەڵک دەدەین کە بەردەست بن.

There's a significant delta, in fact,

لەڕاستیدا، لێرەدا ئامارێکی گرنگ هەیە،

between what we're willing to accept.

لە نێوان ئەوەی چی دەخوازین بۆ پەسەند کردن.

Apologies to Hans Rosling --

he said anything that's not using real stats is a lie --

but the big delta there

is how we deal with this from a public standpoint.

So we've developed certain tactics and strategies

بۆیە ئێمە گەشەمان بە چەند تاکتیک و ستراتیژییەک داوە

to cover up.

This first one's called "the lean."

And if you've ever been in a meeting where you play sort of meeting "chicken,"

you're sitting there, looking at the person, waiting for them to look away,

and then quickly checking the device.

و پاشان خێرا ئامێرەکە(مۆبایل) بپشکنی.

Although you can see the gentleman up on the right is busting him.

هەروەها لێرە کەسێک دەبینیت کە خۆی نابوت دەکات.

"The stretch."

"خۆ درێژکردن".

OK, the gentleman on the left is saying, "Screw you,

باشە، پیاوە بەڕێزەکەی لای چەپ دەڵێت، "داوەشێیت،

I'm going to check my device."

من تەماشایەکی مۆبایلەکەم دەکەم".

But the guy, here, on the right,

بەڵام ئەو کەسەی ئێرە، لە لای ڕاست،

he's doing the stretch.

ئەو خۆی درێژ دەکاتەوە.

It's that reeeee-e-e-each out, the physical contortion

تا ئەوکاتەی دەستی دەگاتە

to get that device just below the tabletop.

ئامێرەکەی لە ژێر مێزەکە.

Or, my favorite, the "Love you; mean it."

یان، دڵخوازەکەی من، "خۆشم دەوێ".

(Laughter)

(پێکەنین)

Nothing says "I love you"

هیچ شتێک ناڵێت "خۆشم دەوێیت" وەکو بڵێت

like "Let me find somebody else I give a damn about."

"با یەکێکی تر بدۆزمەوە تا گرینگی پێ بدەم".

Or, this one, coming to us from India.

یان ئەمەیان، لە هیندەوە بۆمان هاتووە.

You can find this on YouTube,

دەتوانیت ئەمە لە یوتیوب بدۆزیتەوە،

the gentleman who's recumbent on a motorcycle

ئەم پیاوە کە لەسەر مانتۆڕێک ڕاکشاوە

while text messaging.

لەکاتی نوسینی نامەدا.

Or what we call the "sweet gravy, stop me before I kill again!"

یان وەک ئێمە دەڵێن "قشتۆکە، بموەستێنە پێش ئەوەی دیسان بکوژم"!

That is actually the device.

لە ڕاستیدا ئەمەش هەر ئامێرەکەیە(مۆبایل).

What this is doing is, we find a --

ئەوەی ئەمە دەیکات، ئێمە دۆزیمانەوە کە--

(Laughter)

(پێکەنین)

a direct collision --

ناکۆکییەکی ڕاستەوخۆ

we find a direct collision between availability --

ناڕێکییەکی ڕاستەوخۆمان دۆزییەوە لە نێوان --

and what's possible through availability --

و چی گونجاوە بەهۆی دەستکەوتن--

and a fundamental human need -- which we've been hearing about a lot, actually --

و پێویستی بنچینەیی مرۆڤ-- کە زۆربەی جار دەیبیستین،

the need to create shared narratives.

پێویستی بۆ دروستکردنی چیڕۆکە هاوبەشەکانە.

We're very good at creating personal narratives,

ئێمە زۆر باشین لە دروستکردنی چیڕۆکە کەسییەکان،

but it's the shared narratives that make us a culture.

بەڵام ئەمە چیڕۆکە هاوبەشەکانن کە دەمانکەن بە کلتور.

And when you're standing with someone,

و کاتێک تۆ وەستاویت لەگەڵ کەسێک،

and you're on your mobile device,

و تۆ خەریکی ئامێری مۆبایلەکەتی،

effectively what you're saying to them is,

بە تەواوی هەموو ئەوەی کە بەوان دەڵێیت،

"You are not as important as, literally,

"تۆ ئەوەندە گرینگ نیت، بە تەواوی،

almost anything that could come to me through this device."

بە قەد هەر شتێکی کە لە مۆبایلەکەم بۆم دێت".

Look around you.

سەیری دەوروبەری خۆت بکە.

There might be somebody on one right now,

ئێستا لەوانەیە کەسێک خەریکی مۆبایل بێت،

participating in multi-dimensional engagement.

بۆ بەشداریکردن لە پەیوەندییەکی فرەڕەهەندی.

(Laughter)

Our reality right now is less interesting

ڕاستی ئێستامان بە قەد ئەو چیڕۆکانە

than the story we're going to tell about it later.

کە دەیگێڕینەوە دواتر.

This one I love.

من حەزم لەمەیانە

This poor kid, clearly a prop --

ئەم منداڵە هەژارە، بە ڕوونی پشتییە--

don't get me wrong, a willing prop --

بە هەڵە لێم تێمەگەن، پشتییەکی ئامادە--

but the kiss that's being documented kind of looks like it sucks.

بەڵام ماچەکە کە تۆمارکراوە زۆر نابوتە.

This is the sound of one hand clapping.

ئەمە وەک چەپڵەی یەک دەست وایە.

So, as we lose the context of our identity,

کەواتە، کە ئێمە کەسایەتی خۆمان لە دەست دا،

it becomes incredibly important

ئەمە زۆر گرینگ دەبێت

that what you share becomes the context of shared narrative,

کە ئەوەی بڵاوی دەکەیەوە دەبێتە بەشێک لە چیڕۆکی هاوبەشمان،

becomes the context in which we live.

دەبێتە بەشێک لە ژیانمان.

The stories that we tell -- what we push out --

ئەو چیڕۆکانەی ئێمە دەیڵێین-- ئەوەی ئێمە درێژەی پێ دەدەین--

becomes who we are.

دەبێت بە ئێمە.

People aren't simply projecting identity,

خەڵک باسی کەسایەتی ناکات،

they're creating it.

ئەوان دروستی دەکەن.

And so that's the request I have for everybody in this room.

و ئەمە داواکەیە کە بۆ هەمووانم هەیە لێرە.

We are creating the technology

ئێمە تەکنەلۆجیا دروست دەکەین

that is going to create the new shared experience,

ئەمە ئەزمونێکی نوێی هاوبەش دروست دەکات،

which will create the new world.

کە جیهانێکی نوێ دروست دەبێت.

And so my request is,

،و کەواتە داواکەی من ئەوەیە

please, let's make technologies

تکایە، با تەکنەلۆجیا دروست بکەین

that make people more human,

کە خەڵک زیاتر بکاتە مڕۆڤ،

and not less.

نەک کەمتر.
