5 things to practice every day to improve your English communication skills

Today I'm going to talk to you about five things

اليوم سأحدتكم عن خمسة اشياء

that you can practise every single day

يمكنكم ممارستها كل يوم

to improve your English.

Learning a language is like learning

تعلم لغة يشبه تعلم

to play a musical instrument,

العزف على آلة موسيقية،

you can't just pick up a violin

ببساطة لا يمكنك أن تلتقط كماناً

and know how to play it,

وتعرف كيف تعزف عليه.

or at least I didn't when I learned the violin.

أنا من ناحيتي لم أفعل. عندما تعلمت العزف على الكمان.

You have to practise a little bit

every singe day,

and over time you will improve

and become fluent.

You can't just practise loads the day before an exam

The best way to learn a language is to practise

a little bit every single day.

And in this lesson I'm going to give you

وفي هذا الدرس سوف اعطيك

five different ways that you can incorporate English,

خمس طرق مختلفة والتي يمكنك من خلالها مزج الانجليزية

or any other language,

into your daily life.

I think that quite a few of these

you wouldn't have heard before.

So let's get straight into it.

Number one, and ugh I am so excited to be able to mention,

one of my favourite things to listen to ever on my channel,

my first piece of advice is to follow an audio soap-opera.

What is a soap-opera I hear you ask,

well I shall tell you.

A soap-opera is a daily serial,

or series, dealing with the daily lives

and events of the same group of characters,

normally in the same location.

Most commonly they are on television.

اكثر شيوعا على التلفاز

We have lots in the UK like Eastenders,

لدينا العديد في "المملكة المتحدة" مثل الشرقيين.

Coronation Street, Emmerdale,

"coronation street" "Emmerdale" "اسماء مسلسلات"

but I'm recommending you listen to an audio one.

لكن انا ارجح ان تستمع لمسلسل صوتي

And there's one in particular I would like to recommend.

و هناك واحد بالتحديد. احب ان اوصي به

I really, really recommend a radio soap-opera

انا حقا، حقا اوصي ب مسلسل صوتي طويل

by the BBC Radio four,

called The Archers.

It's special for so many reasons,

انه مميز للعديد من الأسباب

not least because it is

ليس اقلها انه

the longest running drama in history,

أطول دراما مستمرة ف التاريخ

it was started in 1950, first aired in 1951,

تم بدأه في ١٩٥٠، اول اذاعه له في ١٩٥١

and also because I think it is absolutely perfect

وايضا لاني أظن أنه مثالي تماما

for English learners.

It follows the daily lives and dramas

انه يساير الحياة والدراما اليومية

of a group of fictional characters

لمجموعة من الشخصيات الخيالية

in the fictional countryside village of Ambridge.

في قرية ريفية خيالية في امبريدج

Each episode is around 12 to 14 minutes long,

كل حلقة تكون حوالي من ١٢ الي ١٤ دقيقة

I'm not quite sure exactly how long,

انا لست متأكدة تماما كم مدتها بالضبط

but it's definitely under 15 minutes.

ولكنها بالتأكيد اقل من ١٥ دقيقة

It's spoken in relatively clear English,

انه متحدث بلغة انجليزية واضحة نسبيا

in a variety of British accents,

and sometimes not British accents as well,

But it's fantastic because the plot summaries

And the great thing about this

is that it deals with daily happenings

which is great for your life too,

وذلك عظيم "جيد" لحياتك أيضا

current events, routine things,

and you can repeat all of the parts you missed.

ويمكنك إعادة كل الاجزاء التي فاتتك

It's on every single day apart from Saturday,

انها "تعرض" في كل يوم ماعدا السبت

they have a rest,

لديهم راحة

and once a week they condense all of the week's episodes

ومرة في الأسبوع. يلخصون جميع حلقات الاسبوع

into one and that's called an omnibus,

الي واحدة وذلك يسمى حلقة مجمعة

and that's around 75 minutes long.

I love listening to The Archers when I go running.

انا احب الاستماع ل "The Archers" وقت ممارسة الجرى.

I listen to it every single day

انا استمع له كل يوم.

and if I miss one I always catch up.

وإذا فاتنى حلقة, دائما أعوضها.

There is no beginning and there is no finish to the series,

لا يوجد بداية ولا يوجد نهاية للمسلسل

there aren't any seasons.

لا يوجد اية مواسم

So it might take you a couple of episodes

لهذا يمكن أن تستغرقك عدة حلقات

to get used to the story lines

لتعتاد على خط سير الأحداث

and to work out who is who

وتفهم الشخصيات

and to recognise the different voices.

و وتتعرف على الأصوات المختلفة

Give it five or six episodes

تابع خمس او ست حلقات

and you'll feel really included.

لتشعر بالتوافق مع الأحداث.

It's wonderful because it's free to listen to,

انه رائع لانه مجاني للاستماع

it's beautifully produced,

انه ممنتج بطريقة جميلة

and there is a huge community of Archers fans.

و يوجد مجتمع كبير جدا من جمهور "Archers"

A lot of them are older,

أكثرهم من كبار السن

but a lot of them are younger too.

والكثير من صغار السن ايضا

And if you search hashtag The Archers on Twitter,

ولو بحثت هاشتاج The Archers على تويتر

big tip here,

نصيحة كبيرة هنا،

you'll see lots of people talking

سوف ترى العديد من الناس يتحدثون

and discussing the topics of the episode

ويناقشون الموضوعات الخاصة بالحلقات

and maybe you can interact with them.

10 to 15 minutes every day is definitely gonna help

١٠ او ١٥ دقيقة في اليوم بالتأكيد سوف تساعد

your listening, it's going to help your pronunciation.

استماعك، سوف يساعد في تحسين نطقك

It's just gonna help your general enjoyment as well

وسوف يساعدك على الاستمتاع بوقتك ايضاً بشكل عام .

'cause it's a great programme.

لانه برنامج عظيم

Right, before I get too passionate,

صحيح، قبل أن أشعر بالحنين

let's move on to piece of advice number two.

دعونا ننتقل للنصيحة رقم اثنان

So number two is talk daily with natives.

النصيحة الثانية ان تتحدث يوميا مع متحدثين اصليين

Now I bet so many of you are thinking

أراهن العديد منكم يفكر

uh I wish, I would love to talk to natives every day,

اه اتمنى، انه باستطاعتي التحدث لمتحدثين اصليين كل يوم

but I don't know how

لكني لا أعلم كيف

and no one seems to want to talk to me.

ولا احد يبدي الرغبة في التكلم معي

Well I have a couple of suggestions.

حسنا. انا لدي بعض الاقتراحات

One is paid for and one is free,

واحد مدفوع والآخر مجانا

and the best thing, in my opinion,

وأفضل شئ في رأيي

would be a combination of the two.

to make sure that you're not making any mistakes.

Now on to tip number three.

Set yourself a daily word goal.

حدد لنفسك هدف مفردات يومي

Learn x amount of words every single day.

تعلم x كمية من المفردات كل يوم

This tip is really important because it also links

هذه النصيحة مهمة جدا لانها أيضا ترتبط

to tip number four.

بالنصيحة الرابعة

I have mentioned this strategy in a previous video,

لقد ذكرت تلك الاستراتيجية في فيديو سابق

but I actually have a really important extra layer

ولكن لدي طبقة أخرى مهمة

to this strategy that I would like to discuss with you.

لتلك الاستراتيجية. اجب انا اناقشها معكم

In order to build your vocabulary quickly,

لبناء مفردات سريعا

you need to learn at least one new word per day,

انت تحتاج لتعلم على الاقل كلمة جديدة في اليوم

but hopefully more than that.

I've spoken to you before about keeping a word diary

or just a notebook or a list on your phone,

keep it with you all the time

and always be aware wherever you are,

ودائما كن على دراية أينما كنت

do I know that word in English?

هل اعرف تلك الكلمة بالانجليزية؟

Do I know how to say that in English?

هل اعرف كيف اقول ذلك بالانجليزية؟

You might see a tree,

يمكنك أن أرى شجرة

do I know how to say that specific

هل اعلم كيف اقول

variety of tree in English?

اسم تلك الشجرة بالتحديد بالانجليزية

If you don't write it down in your own language

اذا لم تدونها بلغتك

in this book, in this list,

في ذلك الكتاب او القائمة

and then at the end of the day,

وبعد ذلك في نهاية اليوم

before you go to sleep,

قبل أن تخلد للنوم

research all of these words

ابحث عن تلك الكلمات

and translate them into English.

وترجمهم للغة الانجليزية

It will help you train your brain

سوف يساعدك ذلك على تدريب عقلك

to always be hungry for English.

ليكون دائما تواق للغة الانجليزية

After a few weeks you will always

بعد بضع اسابيع. سوف تكون دائما

be looking for new words that you can learn,

باحثا عن كلمات جديدة. تستطيع تعلمها

words that you didn't even realise

كلمات لم تكن تدركها حتى

you didn't know.

لم تكن تعرفها

Now there is something else that you can do with these words

الان هناك شئ اخر يمكنك فعله باستخدام تلك الكلمات

and this brings me on to point number four.

وذلك يحضرني للنقطة الرابعة

Write a daily journal with a difference.

اكتب يوميات باختلاف

Depending on your level,

معتمد على مستواك

I would buy a paper journal or diary.

كنت لاشتري مفكرة ورقية او دفتر مذكرات

I get so tired in the evening I can't spend

في المساء أصبح متعبة جدا. لا استطيع تمضية

loads and loads of time writing,

الكثير والكثير من الوقت في الكتابة

so I personally would buy a work week planner

لذلك شخصيا. كنت لاشتري مخطط عمل أسبوعي

or a homework planner or a study planner

أو مخطط للواجبات او مخطط مذاكرة

where you've got all seven days across two pages.

حيث احصل على سبع أيام عبر صفحتين

In each of those days I would write three

في كل واحدة منهم. كنت لأكتب ثلاث

or four sentences about my day

أو أربعة جمل عن يومي

trying to incorporate those words that I learned

محاولة مزج تلك الكلمات التي تعلمتها

in my daily word list,

في قائمة الكلمات اليومية الخاصة بي

the words I mentioned in point three.

الكلمات التي ذكرتها في النقطة ثلاثة

That way, not only are you learning the new words

بهذة الطريقة انت لا تتعلم فقط كلمات جديدة

and learning what they mean,

وتتعلم معناها

you're making sure they're fully integrated into your brain.

وتتأكد انها اندمجت بلكامل في عقلك

And also doing this before you go to sleep

will mean they stick in there even more.

وايضا فعل ذلك قبل الخلود للنوم

سيعني انها ستلتصق بعقلك اكثر

Then you can wake up in the morning,

بعد ذلك يمكنك الاستيقاظ في الصباح

read what you wrote the night before,

تقرأ ما كتبت الليلة الماضية

and you've got those words fresh in your head,

و ستحصل على تلك الكلمات طازجة في رأسك

ready for the day ahead.

It's honestly such a fabulous technique

انه بأمانة اسلوب جميل

because it builds your vocabulary,

it improves your writing skills,

it improves your reading skills,

if you search the pronunciation of the word

اذا بحثت عن نطق الكلمات

it will improve your pronunciation

and your listening skills,

and if you book in sessions with language teachers

واذا حجزت جلسة مع معلم لغة

you can have them correct you writing.

So every week you can bring them two fresh pages of writing

for them to correct.

Honestly, if you do this every day

بصراحة لو فعلت ذلك كل يوم

it will help you so much.

Right, time for the last point.

صحيح. الوقت للنقطة الاخيرة

Point number five,

النقطة رقم خمسة

the tip is to perform daily translations

النصيحة هي ان تقوم بترجمة يومية

of subjects you are interested in.

لمواد انت مهتم بها

Now I now a lot of you want to stop translating

الان انا اعلم العديد منكم يريد التوقف عن الترجمة

and think in English,

والتفكير بالانجليزية

however, I think translation forms

رغم ذلك. اعتقد ترجمة نصوص

a very, very important part of language learning,

هي جزء مهم جدا جدا من تعلم لغة

especially when it's around something

خاصة عندما تكون حول شئ ما

that you are interested in.

انت مهتم به

It's really, really good to compare

انها حقا حقا جيده لتقارن

how things are said in different languages

كيف تقال الأشياء بلغات مختلفة

and translation helps you with that.

والترجمة تساعدك في هذا

In my opinion, the best way to practise your translation

في رأيي. الطريقة الأفضل لممارسة الترجمة

is absolutely free, which is fantastic,

and it's right here on YouTube.

Pick the YouTubers that you really, really like,

اختار اليوتيوبرز الذين تحبهم حقا

the YouTubers that talk about

الذين يتحدثون عن

subjects that you're interested in.

Maybe it's photography,

يمكن أن يكون التصوير

maybe it's technology,

يكمن ان تكون التكنولوجيا

maybe it's pets,

ربما انها الحيوانات الأليفة

maybe it's makeup.

ربما انه المكياج

You can actually contribute to subtitle translations.

يمكنك في الحقيقة ان تشارك في الترجمة

You may have seen that underneath all of my videos

ربما قد رأيتها أسفل جميع فيديوهاتي

So I write the subtitles in English

and help a wider audience.

that would be a really good way to practise.

But even translating English subtitles

ولكن حتى ترجمة النصوص الانجليزية

into your own native language

is a really good reading and translation exercise.
