When I was about eight years old,

I first heard about something called climate change or global warming.

ਉਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਜਾਂ ਗਲੋਬਲ ਵਾਰਮਿੰਗ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ।

Apparently, that was something humans had created by our way of living.

I was told to turn off the lights to save energy

ਸਾਨੂੰ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਬੱਤੀਆਂ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਕ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਸਰੋਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ

and to recycle paper to save resources.

I remember thinking that it was very strange

that humans, who are an animal species among others,

ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਜਾਤੀ ਹੈ

could be capable of changing the Earth's climate.

ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।

Because if we were, and if it was really happening,

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤੇ ਸਚਮੁਚ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ,

we wouldn't be talking about anything else.

ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ।

As soon as you'd turn on the TV, everything would be about that.

ਟੀਵੀ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਸਮੇਂ ਉਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਇਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਸੀ

Headlines, radio, newspapers,

ਸੁਰਖੀਆਂ, ਰੇਡੀਓ, ਅਖਬਾਰ

you would never read or hear about anything else,

ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਇਹੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਸੀ

as if there was a world war going on.

ਲੱਗਦਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਜੰਗ ਛਿੜ ਗਈ ਹੋਵੇ।

But no one ever talked about it.

ਪਰ ਇਸਦੇ ਉਲਟ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ।

If burning fossil fuels was so bad that it threatened our very existence,

ਜੇ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਬਾਲਣ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਏਨੀ ਖ਼ਤਰਨਾਕ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਡਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਖਤਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ

how could we just continue like before?

ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਵਰਤੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ?

Why were there no restrictions?

ਇਸ ਉੱਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ?

Why wasn't it made illegal?

ਇਸਨੂੰ ਗੈਰ-ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ?

To me, that did not add up.

ਇਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਮਝ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਸੀ।

It was too unreal.

ਇਹ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਵੀ ਅਸਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਸੀ।

So when I was 11, I became ill.

ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ 11 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਸੀ, ਮੈਂ ਬਿਮਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ।

I fell into depression,

ਮੈਂ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ,

I stopped talking,

ਮੈਂ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨਾ ਤੇ

and I stopped eating.

ਖਾਣਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

In two months, I lost about 10 kilos of weight.

ਦੋ ਮਹੀਨਿਆਂ 'ਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਭਾਰ ਲਗਭਗ 10 ਕਿੱਲੋ ਘਟ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

Later on, I was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome,

ਉਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਐਸਪਰਜਰ ਸਿੰਡਰੋਮ,

OCD and selective mutism.

ਓਸੀਡੀ ਅਤੇ ਚੋਣਵੇਂ ਗੂੰਗੇਪਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਿਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ।

That basically means I only speak when I think it's necessary -

ਮਤਲਬ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਸਿਰਫ ਤਾਂ ਬੋਲਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ

now is one of those moments.

ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਪਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਪਲਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਹਨ।

For those of us who are on the spectrum,

ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਜੋ ਆਟਿਜ਼ਮ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹਨ

almost everything is black or white.

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਲਗਭਗ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ ਸਹੀ ਜਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਗਲਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

We aren't very good at lying,

ਅਸੀਂ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਿਚ ਚੰਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੇ

and we usually don't enjoy participating in this social game

ਅਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਮਿਲਣੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣਦੇ

that the rest of you seem so fond of.

ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ।

I think in many ways that we autistic are the normal ones,

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਈ ਮਾਅਨਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਔਟਿਸਿਕ ਲੋਕ ਨਾਰਮਲ ਹਾਂ

and the rest of the people are pretty strange,

ਤੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਲੋਕ ਦੇ ਕਾਫੀ ਅਜੀਬ ਹਨ,

especially when it comes to the sustainability crisis,

ਖਾਸ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਖਤਰੇ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ

where everyone keeps saying climate change is an existential threat

ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਸਾਡੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਖਤਰਾ ਹੈ

and the most important issue of all,

ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਹੈ

and yet they just carry on like before.

ਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਉਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

I don't understand that,

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ

because if the emissions have to stop,

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਧੂਆਂ ਰੁਕਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ,

then we must stop the emissions.

ਤਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।

To me that is black or white.

ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ।

There are no gray areas when it comes to survival.

ਜਦੋਂ ਗੱਲ ਹੋਂਦ 'ਤੇ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੂਜੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ।

Either we go on as a civilization or we don't.

We have to change.

ਸਾਨੂੰ ਬਦਲਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।

Rich countries like Sweden need to start reducing emissions

ਸਵੀਡਨ ਜਿਹੇ ਅਮੀਰ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ

by at least 15 percent every year.

15 ਫੀਸਦੀ ਤੱਕ ਘੱਟ ਕਰਨਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ।

And that is so that we can stay below a two-degree warming target.

ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ 2 ਡਿਗਰੀ ਸੈਲਸੀਅਸ ਦੇ ਵਾਰਮਿੰਗ ਟੀਚੇ ਤੋਂ ਥੱਲੇ ਰਹੀਏ

would significantly reduce the climate impacts.

But we can only imagine what that means for reducing emissions.

You would think the media and every one of our leaders

would be talking about nothing else,

ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਚਰਚਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹੋਣਗੇ

but they never even mention it.

ਪਰ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਤੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ।

Nor does anyone ever mention

the greenhouse gases already locked in the system.

Nor that air pollution is hiding a warming

so that when we stop burning fossil fuels,

ਹੁਣ ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵਾਸ਼ਮ ਜਲਾਉਣੇ ਬੰਦ ਵੀ ਕਰ ਦੇਈਏ

we already have an extra level of warming

ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਵਾਰਮਿੰਗ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਵੱਧਦੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ

perhaps as high as 0.5 to 1.1 degrees Celsius.

Furthermore does hardly anyone speak about the fact

that we are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction,

with up to 200 species going extinct every single day,

that the extinction rate today

Nor does hardly anyone ever speak about the aspect of equity or climate justice,

clearly stated everywhere in the Paris Agreement,

which is absolutely necessary to make it work on a global scale.

That means that rich countries

need to get down to zero emissions within 6 to 12 years,

with today's emission speed.

And that is so that people in poorer countries

can have a chance to heighten their standard of living

by building some of the infrastructure that we have already built,

such as roads, schools, hospitals,

clean drinking water, electricity, and so on.

Because how can we expect countries like India or Nigeria

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਇਜੀਰੀਆ ਜਿਹੇ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਆਸ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ

to care about the climate crisis

ਕਿ ਉਹ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਸੰਕਟ ਦਾ ਆਸ ਕਰਨ।

if we who already have everything don't care even a second about it

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਂ

or our actual commitments to the Paris Agreement?

ਪੈਰਿਸ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੋਚਦੇ।

So, why are we not reducing our emissions?

ਆਖਿਰਕਾਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ?

Why are they in fact still increasing?

ਸਗੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਈ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ?

Are we knowingly causing a mass extinction?

ਕੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਚਮੁਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਮਹਾਵਿਨਾਸ਼ ਵੱਲ ਵਧ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ?

Are we evil?

ਕੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਸ਼ੈਤਾਨ ਹਾਂ ?

No, of course not.

ਨਹੀਂ, ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ।

People keep doing what they do

ਲੋਕ ਉਹੀ ਕਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ

because the vast majority doesn't have a clue

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਿਣਕ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ

about the actual consequences of our everyday life,

ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੀ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਸਿੱਟੇ ਨਿਕਲ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ

and they don't know that rapid change is required.

We all think we know, and we all think everybody knows,

ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹੀ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ

but we don't.

ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ

Because how could we?

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗੇਗਾ ?

If there really was a crisis,

ਜੇਕਰ ਸਚਮੁਚ ਕੋਈ ਸੰਕਟ ਹੁੰਦਾ

and if this crisis was caused by our emissions,

ਜਾਂ ਇਸ ਸੰਕਟ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ

you would at least see some signs.

ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਲੱਛਣ ਤਾਂ ਦੇਖਦੇ

Not just flooded cities, tens of thousands of dead people,

ਸਿਰਫ ਹੜ੍ਹ ਪੀੜ੍ਹਤ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਸ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਮੌਤਾਂ

and whole nations leveled to piles of torn down buildings.

But no.

ਪਰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਤੇ

And no one talks about it.

ਇਸ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਉੱਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ।

There are no emergency meetings, no headlines, no breaking news.

ਕੋਈ ਅਚਨਚੇਤ ਬੈਠਕ, ਕੋਈ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਮਾਚਾਰ, ਕੋਈ ਬ੍ਰੇਕਿੰਗ ਨਿਊਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਖਦੀ।

No one is acting as if we were in a crisis.

ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਵਰਤਾਅ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੰਕਟ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

Even most climate scientists or green politicians

ਇੱਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਕਿ ਜਿਆਦਤਰ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਾਂ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨਵਾਦੀ ਨੇਤਾ ਵੀ

keep on flying around the world, eating meat and dairy.

ਮਾਸ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਧ ਦੇ ਬਣੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਣਾ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਵਿਚ ਸੈਰਾਂ ਕਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।

If I live to be 100, I will be alive in the year 2103.

ਜੇਕਰ ਮੈਂ 100 ਸਾਲ (ਦੀ ਉਮਰ) ਤੱਕ ਜੀਉਂਦੀ ਰਹੀ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਲ 2103 ਤੱਕ ਜੀਉਂਦੀ ਰਹਾਂਗੀ

When you think about the future today, you don't think beyond the year 2050.

ਪਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੋਚੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਲ 2050 ਤੋਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੋਚ ਸਕਦੇ

By then, I will, in the best case, not even have lived half of my life.

ਸਾਲ 2078 ਵਿਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ 75ਵਾਂ ਜਨਮ ਦਿਨ ਮਨਾਵਾਂਗੀ

If I have children or grandchildren, maybe they will spend that day with me.

ਜੇਕਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਜਾਂ ਦੋਹਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਣਗੇ

Maybe they will ask me about you,

ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਉਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਛਣ

the people who were around, back in 2018.

ਕਿ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਜੋ 2018 ਵਿਚ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ

Maybe they will ask why you didn't do anything

ਸ਼ਾਇਦ ਉਹ ਪੁੱਛਣਗੇ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੁਛ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ

while there still was time to act.

ਜਦੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਮਾਂ ਸੀ

What we do or don't do right now will affect my entire life

ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਜੋ ਵੀ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਜਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਜੀਵਨ

and the lives of my children and grandchildren.

So when school started in August of this year,

ਇਸ ਲਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸ ਸਾਲ ਅਗਸਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਕੂਲ ਖੁੱਲੇ

I decided that this was enough.

ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਲਿਆ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੁਣ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਪਰੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੈ

I set myself down on the ground outside the Swedish parliament.

ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸਵੀਡਨ ਦੀ ਸੰਸਦ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਾ ਬੈਠ ਗਈ।

I school striked for the climate.

ਮੈਂ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੜਤਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ

Some people say that I should be in school instead.

ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਸੀ।

Some people say that I should study to become a climate scientist

ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਵਿਗਿਆਨੀ ਬਣਨ ਲਈ ਪੜਾਈ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ

so that I can "solve the climate crisis."

ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਸੰਕਟ ਨੂੰ ਹੱਲ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਂ

But the climate crisis has already been solved.

ਪਰ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਸੰਕਟ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਲਝਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ ਹੈ

We already have all the facts and solutions.

ਸਾਰੇ ਤੱਥ ਤੇ ਹੱਲ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹਨ

All we have to do is to wake up and change.

ਲੋੜ ਸਿਰਫ ਸਾਡੇ ਜਾਗਣ ਤੇ ਬਦਲਣ ਦੀ ਹੈ।

And why should I be studying for a future that soon will be no more

ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਕ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਲਈ ਪੜਾਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਾਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਹੋਂਦ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਯਕੀਨ ਨਹੀਂ

when no one is doing anything whatsoever to save that future?

ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ

And what is the point of learning facts in the school system

ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੜਾਏ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੱਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਲਾਭ ?

when the most important facts

ਜਦ ਉਸੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੜਾਏ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ

given by the finest science of that same school system

ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਅਧਿਐਨ

clearly means nothing to our politicians and our society.

ਸਪਸ਼ਟ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਡੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਅਨੇ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦੇ

Some people say that Sweden is just a small country,

ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਸਵੀਡਨ ਸਿਰਫ ਇਕ ਨਿਕਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਹੈ

and that it doesn't matter what we do,

ਅਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਫਰਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਣਾ

but I think that if a few children can get headlines all over the world

ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਕੁਝ ਬੱਚੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਹਲਚਲ ਮਚਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ

just by not coming to school for a few weeks,

ਸਿਰਫ ਕੁਝ ਹਫਤੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਜਾਣਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇਤ

imagine what we could all do together if you wanted to.

ਤਾਂ ਫਰਜ਼ ਕਰੋ ਕਿ ਆਪਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਲ ਕੇ ਕੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ

Now we're almost at the end of my talk,

ਹੁਣ ਅਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਾਂ

and this is where people usually start talking about hope,

ਤੇ ਇਹ ਉਹ ਸਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਮੀਦ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੌਰ ਪੈਨਲ

solar panels, wind power, circular economy, and so on,

ਹਵਾ ਊਰਜਾ, ਸਰਕੁਲਰ ਆਰਥਿਕਤਾ ਆਦਿ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਏ ਹਨ

but I'm not going to do that.

ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ

We've had 30 years of pep-talking and selling positive ideas.

ਸਾਨੂੰ 30 ਸਾਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਇਹ ਦਿਲਾਸੇ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਤੇ ਆਸ਼ਾਵਾਦੀ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਚਦੇ ਹੋਏ

And I'm sorry, but it doesn't work.

ਤੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖੇਦ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਖੱਟ ਰਹੇ

Because if it would have,

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਫਲ ਹੋਏ ਹੁੰਦੇ

the emissions would have gone down by now.

ਤਾਂ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਕਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਘਟ ਗਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ

They haven't.

ਪਰ ਉਹ ਘਟੇ ਨਹੀਂ

And yes, we do need hope,

ਤੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਮੀਦ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ

of course we do.

ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸ਼ੱਕ।

But the one thing we need more than hope is action.

ਪਰ ਉਹ ਚੀਜ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਮੀਦ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਵੱਧ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹੈ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼।

Once we start to act, hope is everywhere.

ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਲੱਗੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਮੀਦ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ

So instead of looking for hope,

ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਮੀਦ ਲੱਭਣ ਦੀ ਥਾਂ

look for action.

ਇਹ ਲੱਭੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ

Then, and only then, hope will come.

ਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ ਉਦੋਂ ਉਮੀਦ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਨ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆਵੇਗੀ।

Today, we use 100 million barrels of oil every single day.

ਅੱਜ ਅਸੀਂ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ 10 ਕਰੋੜ ਬੈਰਲ ਤੇਲ ਵਰਤ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਘਟਾਉਣ ਲਈ

There are no politics to change that.

ਕੋਈ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਕ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਖ ਰਿਹਾ।

There are no rules to keep that oil in the ground.

ਇਸ ਤੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਹੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।

So we can't save the world by playing by the rules,

ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਨਿਯਮਾਂ ਸਦਕਾ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚਾ ਸਕਦੇ

because the rules have to be changed.

ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਯਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲਣਾ ਹੀ ਪਵੇਗਾ

Everything needs to change --

ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ ਨੂੰ ਬਦਲਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ

and it has to start today.

ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਅੱਜ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਵੇਗੀ।
