I call myself a body architect.

من خۆم بە ئەندازیاری جەستە ناو دەبەم.

I trained in classical ballet

مەشقم وەرگرتوە لە بالێ

and have a background in architecture and fashion.

As a body architect, I fascinate with the human body

and explore how I can transform it.

I worked at Philips Electronics

in the far-future design research lab,

I explored the human skin, and how technology can transform the body.

I worked on concepts like an electronic tattoo,

which is augmented by touch,

or dresses that blushed and shivered with light.

I started my own experiments.

These were the low-tech approaches to the high-tech conversations I was having.

These are Q-tips stuck to my roommate with wig glue.

I started a collaboration with a friend of mine, Bart Hess --

من هاوبەشیم دەست پێ کرد لەگەڵ هاوڕێیەکی خۆم، بارێت هێس

he doesn't normally look like this --

ئەو بە ئاسایی بەم شێوە دەرناکەوێت

and we used ourselves as models.

و ئێمە خۆمان وەکو نموونە بەکار دەهێنا.

We transformed our apartments into our laboratories,

ئێمە شوقەکانی خۆمان گۆڕی بۆ تاقیگە،

and worked in a very spontaneous and immediate way.

بە شێوەیەکی خێراو زۆر خۆڕسکانە ئیشمان کرد.

We were creating

ئێمە دروستکەری

visual imagery provoking human evolution.

وێناکردنی بینۆکی گەشەسەندنی مرۆڤ بووین.

Whilst I was at Philips, we discussed this idea of a maybe technology,

کە لە فلیپس بووم، باسی ئەو بیرۆکەیەمان کرد کە دەشێ تەکنەلۆجیا،

something that wasn't either switched on or off, but in between.

شتێک کە نە بکوژێتەوە و نە پێ بکرێت، بەڵام لە نێوانی دابێت.

A maybe that could take the form of a gas or a liquid.

ئەگەرەکە دەکرێت شێوەی گاز یان شلە وەربگرێت.

And I became obsessed with this idea of blurring the perimeter of the body,

گومانم بۆ دروست بوو لەسەر بیرۆکەی ڵێڵ بوونی چێوەی جەستە،

so you couldn't see where the skin ended and the near environment started.

نەدەتوانی ببینیت، پێست لە کوێ بە کۆتا دێت ولە دەوروبەری کوێ دەستی پێکردووە،

I set up my studio in the red-light district

ستۆدیۆکەی خۆم لە ناوچەی ڕووناکی سور دانا

and obsessively wrapped myself in plumbing tubing,

و خۆم بە بۆڕی سۆندە داپۆشی ،

and found a way to redefine the skin

و ڕێگەیەکم دۆزیەوە بۆ دووبارە پێناسکردنی پێست

and create this dynamic textile.

I was introduced to Robyn, the Swedish pop star,

and she was also exploring

how technology coexists with raw human emotion.

And she talked about how technology with these new feathers,

this new face paint, this punk, the way that we identify with the world,

and we made this music video.

و ئێمە ئەو ڤیدیۆیەمان دروست کرد.

I'm fascinated with the idea

من شەیدای ئەو بیرۆکەیەم

of what happens when you merge biology with technology,

کە چی دەبێت گەر زیندەزانی لێک بدرێت لەگەڵ تەکنەلۆجیا،

and I remember reading about this idea of being able to reprogram

بیرمە لەسەر دووبارە بەرنامە سازی خوێندمەوە،

biology, in the future, away from disease and aging.

زیندەزانی، لە داهاتوودا، دوور لە نەخۆشی و پیر بوون.

And I thought about this concept of,

و من بیرم کردەوە لە چەمکی،

imagine if we could reprogram

بینە بەرچاوت گەر توانیمان دووبارە بنیادی

our own body odor, modify and biologically enhance it,

بۆنی جەستەی خۆمان بنێین، گۆڕینی و زیندەزانی کار ئاسانی دەکات،

and how would that change the way that we communicate with each other?

ئەوە چۆن شێوازی مامەڵەکردنمان دەگۆڕێت لەگەڵ یەکتر؟

Or the way that we attract sexual partners?

یان ئەو شێوەیەی سەرنجی بەرامبەرڕەگەزی بەرامبەر ڕادەکێشین؟

And would we revert back to being more like animals,

ئایا شێوەمان دەگەڕێتەوە بۆ سەر ئاژەڵەکان ،

more primal modes of communication?

شێوازی پەیوەندی کردنی سەرەتای تر؟

I worked with a synthetic biologist,

من کارم لەگەڵ زیندەزانێکی دەستکردی کرد،

and I created a swallowable perfume,

من بۆنێکم دروست کرد کە قوت بدرێت،

which is a cosmetic pill that you eat

کە حەبێکی جوانکاریە کە دەیخۆیت

and the fragrance comes out through the skin's surface when you perspire.

بۆن لەڕێگەی پێست دێتە دەرەوە کاتێک کە ئارەق دەڕێژی.

It completely blows apart the way that perfume is,

بە تەواوەتی دەتەقێتەوە بەو شێوەی کە بۆنەکە هەیە،

and provides a whole new format.

شێوازێکی نوێی دەداتێ.

It's perfume coming from the inside out.

ئەوە بۆنە لە ناوەوە دێتە دەرەوە.

It redefines the role of skin, and our bodies become an atomizer.

ئەمە ڕۆڵی پێست پێناسە دەکاتەوە، وجەستەی ئێمە دەبێتە پرژکەر.

I've learned that there's no boundaries,

من فێر بووم کە هیچ بەربەستێک نییە،

and if I look at the evolution of my work

و گەر سەیری گەشەسەندنی کارەکەم بکەم

i can see threads and connections that make sense.

سەرە داو و پەیوەندی وا دەبینم کە مانا دەگەیێنێت.

But when I look towards the future,

بەڵام کاتێک لە داهاتوو دەڕوانم،

the next project is completely unknown and wide open.

پڕۆژەی دواترم بە تەواوی نەزانراو و فراوەنە.

I feel like I have all these ideas existing embedded inside of me,

هەست دەکەم کە هەموو ئەو بیرۆکانە لە مندا هەیە وچەسپاوە،

and it's these conversations and these experiences

و ئەو گفتوگۆ و ئەزموونانەیە

that connect these ideas, and they kind of instinctively come out.

کە ئەم بیرۆکانە بەیەکوە دەبەستێت، ئەوان بە شڵەژاوی دێنە دەرەوە.

As a body architect,

وەکو ئەندازیارێکی جەستە،

I've created this limitless and boundless platform

سەکۆیەکی بێ سنوور و بێ ئەندازەم دروست کرد

for me to discover whatever I want.

بۆ خۆم بۆ ئەوەی چیم بوێت لێی بکۆڵمەوە.

And I feel like I've just got started.

و هەست دەکەم تازە دەستم پێکردوە.

So here's to another day at the office.

لەبەر ئەوە ڕۆژێکی ترە لە نوسینگە.
