In the past few months, I've been traveling for weeks at a time

पिछले कुछ महीनों के लिए मै कई सप्ताह तक प्रवास कर रही थी।.

with only one suitcase of clothes.

पेरे पास कपडे की एक ही बैंग थी।

One day, I was invited to an important event,

मुझे एक दिन किसी खास समारोह में जाना था।

and I wanted to wear something special and new for it.

मुझे उसके लिए कुछ नया और खास पहनना था।

So I looked through my suitcase and I couldn't find anything to wear.

मैने मेरा बैग देखा मुझे कोई खास पहनावा नजर नही आया।

I was lucky to be at the technology conference on that day,

मेरा भाग्य था मैं मुझे तंत्रज्ञान की उस सभा मे शिरकत करनी थी।

and I had access to 3D printers.

मैने थ्री डी प्रिंटर चलाये थे।

So I quickly designed a skirt on my computer,

मैने कंप्यूटर पर एक स्कर्ट डिज़ाइन किया।

and I loaded the file on the printer.

मैने उसे प्रिंटरप्रर लोड किया।

It just printed the pieces overnight.

एक ही रात में उसके टूकडे प्रिंट हुए।

The next morning, I just took all the pieces,

दुसरे दिन मैने उन्हे जमा किया।

assembled them together in my hotel room,

और मेरे हॉटेल रूम मे ही जोड दिये।

and this is actually the skirt that I'm wearing right now.

वही स्कर्ट मैने आज पहना है।

So it wasn't the first time that I printed clothes.

यह कोई पहला वाक्या नही था।

For my senior collection at fashion design school,

मैने उन्हे बनाया था फैशन डिज़ाइन स्कूल के लिये।

I decided to try and 3D print an entire fashion collection from my home.

मैने घर से ही थ्री डी प्रिंटर का इस्तेमाल फैशन कलेक्शन के लिये किया।

The problem was that I barely knew anything about 3D printing,

लेकीन समस्या यह थी मुझे थ्री डी प्रिंटींग की जानकारी नही थी।

and I had only nine months to figure out how to print five fashionable looks.

मेरे पास नौ महीने का समय था पाच फैशन के नमुने प्रिंट करने के लिए।

I always felt most creative when I worked from home.

मुझे घर से नवनिर्माण का काम करना प्रेरणादायी लगता है।

I loved experimenting with new materials,

कुछ नया बनाने का प्रयास करना भाता था ।

and I always tried to develop new techniques

मैं हमेशा नये तंत्र विकसित करना चाहती हू।

to make the most unique textiles for my fashion projects.

मुझे अनोखे फैशन के कपडे बनाने मे मजा आता है।

I loved going to old factories and weird stores

पुराने कारखाने ,अनोखे किस्म के दुकान मैं जाती हू।

in search of leftovers of strange powders and weird materials,

जहाँ से मैं लाती हू कुछ खास चीजे पौडर तथा अनोखे कपडे।

and then bring them home to experiment on.

जिसे मैं घर लाकर प्रयोग के काम मे लाती हू।

As you can probably imagine,

आप शायद सोचोगे ।

my roommates didn't like that at all.

मेरी रूम पार्टनर को ये सब अच्छा न लगे।

(Laughter)

So I decided to move on to working with big machines,

मैने तय किया मैं किसी बडी मशीन इस्तेमाल करू।

ones that didn't fit in my living room.

लेकीन वो मेरे घर मे नही समा सकती।

I love the exact and the custom work I can do

मुझे पसंद है सटीक और दस्तूर से काम करना।

with all kinds of fashion technologies,

फैशन प्रौद्योगिकियों के सभी प्रकार के साथ।

like knitting machines and laser cutting and silk printing.

बुनाई मशीनों की तरह और लेजर कटिंग और रेशम मुद्रण।

One summer break, I came here to New York for an internship

गर्मी के दिनो, एक इंटर्नशिप के लिए मैं यहाँ न्यूयॉर्क आयी थी ।

at a fashion house in Chinatown.

चाइनाटाउन में एक फैशन हाउस पर।

We worked on two incredible dresses that were 3D printed.

हमने दो अनोखे कपड़े पर काम किया ज्यो कि 3 डी मुद्रित किये थे ।

They were amazing -- like you can see here.

वे जबरदस्त थे -- जैसे आप यहां देख सकते हैं।

But I had a few issues with them.

लेकिन उनके साथ कुछ समस्या थी ।

They were made from hard plastics and that's why they were very breakable.

वे प्लास्टिक से बने थे और यही कारण है कि वे बहुत ही नाज़ुक थे

The models couldn't sit in them,

हमारी अपेक्षाकृत ठीक नही थे।

and they even got scratched from the plastics under their arms.

उनमे खरोंच मिला उनकी बाहों के नीचे प्लास्टिक से।

With 3D printing, the designers had so much freedom

डी प्रिंटिंग से, डिजाइनरों को इतनी आजादी थी ।

to make the dresses look exactly like they wanted,

कपड़े बनाने के लिए जो वास्तव में उनकी अपेक्षाकृत हो ।

but still, they were very dependent on big and expensive industrial printers

लेकिन फिर भी, वे बहुत ही निर्भर थे बड़ी और महंगी औद्योगिक प्रिंटर पर ।

that were located in a lab far from their studio.

Later that year, a friend gave me a 3D printed necklace,

printed using a home printer.

I knew that these printers were much cheaper

and much more accessible than the ones we used at my internship.

मेरे प्रशिक्षण दौरान इस्तेमाल किये हुये प्रिंटर से अधिक अच्छे है ।

So I looked at the necklace,

मैने नेकलेस देखा ।

and then I thought, "If I can print a necklace from home,

सोचा" क्यू नही ऐसे नेकलेस घर मे ही प्रिंट करू ।

why not print my clothes from home, too?"

क्या मैं मेरे कपडे घर से प्रिंट कर सकती हू" ।

I really liked the idea that I wouldn't have to go to the market

मुझे फिर बाज़ार मे भी जाने की जरुरत ही नही पडेगी ।

and pick fabrics that someone else chose to sell --

और वो चुनने की जो कोई और बेचना चाहता हैं

I could just design them and print them directly from home.

मैं खुद उनकी डिज़ाइन तैयार करूंगी और घर से ही प्रिंट करूंगी ।

I found a small makerspace,

मैने छोटी सी जगह चून ली ।

where I learned everything I know about 3D printing.

जहा मैं 3 डी प्रिंटींग सिखी थी ।.

Right away, they literally gave me the key to the lab,

उन्होने मुझे उस जगह पर पुरा नियंत्रण दिया था ।

so I could experiment into the night, every night.

जिससे मुझे रातभर काम करने में भी सुविधा मिली ।

The main challenge was to find the right filament for printing clothes with.

मेरे सामने समस्या थी प्रिंटींग के लिये इस्तेमाल किये जानेवाले फिलामेंट की

So what is a filament?

क्या होता है फिलामेंट ?

Filament is the material you feed the printer with.

यह एक प्रिंटर मे डाला जानेवाला पदार्थ होता है. ।

And I spent a month or so experimenting with PLA,

प्रिंटर लोडेड अप्लिकेशन PLA पर एक माह संशोधन करती रही ।

which is a hard and scratchy, breakable material.

यह एक कठीन और खरोच वाला पदार्थ होता है

The breakthrough came when I was introduced to Filaflex,

फिलामेंट का मुझे जब पता चला तो मेरी समस्या आसान हुई ।

which is a new kind of filament.

जो एक नये किस्म का फिलामेंट था ।

It's strong, yet very flexible.

वह मजबूत तथा लचीला था ।

And with it, I was able to print the first garment,

उससे ही मैं मेरा पहला पोशाक तैयार कर सकी ।

the red jacket that had the word "Liberté" --

वाह एक लाल रंग का जाकीट था उसपर लिखा गाय "Liberate "

"freedom" in French --

मतलब फ्रेंचमे "आझादी "

embedded into it.

यह उसमे अंकित था ।

I chose this word because I felt so empowered and free

मैने ही उस शब्द का प्रयोग किया शक्तिमान तथा आज़ाद होने पर ।

when I could just design a garment from my home

मुझे आज़ादी मिली थी घर से ही काम करने की ।

and then print it by myself.

ड्रेस प्रिंट करने की ।

And actually, you can easily download this jacket,

आप खुद भी यह जाकीट डाउनलोड कर सकोगे ।

and easily change the word to something else.

आप भी और कुछ नया कर सकोगे ।

For example, your name or your sweetheart's name.

जैसे कि आप अपनी प्रियतमा का नाम उसपर अंकित कर सकते हो ।

(Laughter)

So the printer plates are small,

हालाकी प्रिंटर की प्लेट छोटी थी ।

so I had to piece the garment together, just like a puzzle.

इसलिये मुझे पोशाक को एक पहेली की तरह जोड़ना पडा ।

And I wanted to solve another challenge.

दुसरी एक समस्या दूर करना मैंने तय किया ।

I wanted to print textiles

उसपर डिज़ाइन प्रिंट करना था ।

that I would use just like regular fabrics.

ताकि मैं उसे नियमित पहन सकू ।

That's when I found an open-source file

मुझे एक ओपन सोर्स फाईल मिली ।

from an architect who designed a pattern that I love.

जिसे मैं बहुत पसंद करती थी ।

And with it, I was able to print a beautiful textile

जिससे मैं बहुती सुंदर कपड़ा बना सकने समर्थ हुई।

that I would use just like a regular fabric.

उसे मैं नियमित रूप से पहन सकू।

And it actually even looks a little bit like lace.

वह एक लेस की तरह थी .

So I took his file and I modified it, and changed it, played with it --

मैंने उस फाईल को देखा .मैने उसे अनेक बार बदल कर देखा।

many kinds of versions out of it.

उसकी अलग अलग प्रतियाँ बनाई .

And I needed to print another 1,500 more hours

मुझे उसे प्रिंट करने 1500 ज्यादा घंटे काम करना था।.

to complete printing my collection.

जिससे कि मैं मेरा सारा संग्रह प्रिंट कर सकू।

So I brought six printers to my home and just printed 24-7.

मैने घर के लिये छह प्रिंटर खरीद लिये रातदिन काम शुरू किया।

And this is actually a really slow process,

फिर भी यह मंद गति से काम चल रहा था।

but let's remember the Internet was significantly slower 20 years ago,

लेकीन याद करे, बीस साल पहले इंटरनेट बहुत कम गति से चलता था।

so 3D printing will also accelerate

आज का थ्री डी प्रिंटर जल्द गति से काम करता है।.

and in no time you'll be able to print a T-Shirt in your home

बहुत ही कम समय में आप अपना टी शर्ट प्रिंट कर सकते है ।

in just a couple of hours, or even minutes.

कुछ ही घंटों मे या मिनटों मे।

So you guys, you want to see what it looks like?

Almost everything here she's wearing, I printed from my home.

Even her shoes are printed.

So I think in the future, materials will evolve,

and they will look and feel like fabrics we know today,

जिसे इस्तेमाल करके आप आज जैसा पहनावा बना सकते है।

like cotton or silk.

जैसे कपास या सिल्क से बनाये जाते है।

Imagine personalized clothes that fit exactly to your measurements.

कल्पना करो हर एक के लिये उसके मुताबिक पहनावा बनाने के बारे मे ।

Music was once a very physical thing.

संगीत एक जमाने एक वस्तू होती थी .

You would have to go to the record shop and buy CDs,

जिसे आप सीडी के दुकान से खरीद लाते।

but now you can just download the music --

लेकीन आज आप उसे उतारते है।

digital music --

डीजीटल हुआ है संगीत।

directly to your phone.

मोबाईल मे उतार सकते है।

Fashion is also a very physical thing.

फैशन भी एक वस्तू है .

And I wonder what our world will look like

मुझे आश्चर्य होता है , पुरा जग कैसे दिखाई देगा ।

when our clothes will be digital, just like this skirt is.

जब हम ऐसे डिजिटल पोशाक पहनेंगे । इस स्कर्ट की तरह|
