دوو ساڵ لەمەوبەر، وەک هونەرمەندێک بانگ کرابووم

بۆ بەشداریکردن لە پێشانگایەک

١٠٠ ساڵ لە ههونەری ئیسلامی لە ئەوروپا.

Two years ago, I was invited as an artist

کە کارمەندەکە تەنیا یەک مەرجی هەبوو:

کە پێویستە دەستنوسی عەرەبی بەکاربێنم لە کارە هوونەرییەکەم.

to participate in an exhibition commemorating

100 years of Islamic art in Europe.

ئێستا، وەک هونەرمەندێک، ژنێک، و عەرەبێک،

The curator had only one condition:

یان مرۆڤێک کە لە سەر زەوی ژیاوم لە ساڵی ٢٠١٠،

I had to use the Arabic script for my artwork.

تەنیا یەک شتم هەیە بۆ وتن:

Now, as an artist, a woman, an Arab,

دەمەوێت بڵێم نەخێر.

or a human being living in the world in 2010,

و لە عەرەبیدا کە بڵێین نەخێر، دەڵێین نەخێر،

I only had one thing to say:

و هەزاران جار نەخێر.

بۆیە بریارمدا بۆ هەزاران نەخێری جیاواز بگەرێم.

I wanted to say no.

And in Arabic, to say "no," we say "no,

لەسەر هەموو شتێک کە بەرهەم هاتبێت

and a thousand times no."

لە ژێر ئیسلام یان باگگراوندی عەرەب لە کۆتا ١٤٠٠ ساڵ،

So I decided to look for a thousand different noes.

لە ئیسپانیاوە تا سنوورەکانی چین.

on everything ever produced

under Islamic or Arab patronage in the past 1,400 years,

سەرچاوەکانم لە کتێبێک کۆکردەوە،

بە شێوەیەکی کاتی ناوم بۆی دانا،

from Spain to the borders of China.

پارێزەرەکە، و ناوەرۆک و بەروارەکەی.

I collected my findings in a book,

ئێستا،کتێبەکەم لەسەر ڕەفەیەکی بچووک دانا لە تەنیشت دامەزراوەکە،

placed them chronologically, stating the name,

کە دانیشتبلەسەر نزیکەی ٣ بۆ ٧ مەتر لە میونخ، ئەلمانیا،

the patron, the medium and the date.

لە ئەیلولی ساڵی ٢٠١٠.

Now, the book sat on a small shelf next to the installation,

ئێستا لە کانوونی دووەم ساڵی ٢٠١١، شۆرشەکە دەستی پێکرد،

which stood three by seven meters, in Munich, Germany,

in September of 2010.

و ژیان وەستا بۆ ماوەی ١٨ رۆژ،

Now, in January, 2011, the revolution started,

و لە ١٢ تشرینی یەکەم،

ئێمە ساویلکانە ئاهەنگمان گێرا لە شەقامەکانی قاهیرە،

باوەرمان کرد کە شۆرشەکە سەرکەوتووبووە.

and life stopped for 18 days,

and on the 12th of February,

دوای نۆ مانگ خۆم بینی نامە دەنووسم

we naively celebrated on the streets of Cairo,

لە گۆرەپانی تاهیرە. هۆکاری ئەم کردارەم

believing that the revolution had succeeded.

Nine months later I found myself spraying messages

ئەو وێنەیە بوو لە سەر پەرەی زانییارییەکان بینیم.

و ئێستا هەستم دەکرد دەتوانم کە شارەکە بژیم

in Tahrir Square. The reason for this act

کە خەڵکی تێیدا دەکوژرێن

was this image that I saw in my newsfeed.

و وەلو زبڵ فرێدەدرێنە سەر شەقام.

بۆیە “بەردێکی “نەخێرم” لێکردەوە

I did not feel that I could live in a city

لە مۆزەخانەی ئیسلامی لە قاهیرە، و نامەیەکم بۆ زیاد کرد:

where people were being killed

and thrown like garbage on the street.

“نەخێر بۆ حوکمی سەربازی”.

و دەستم کرد بە نەخشاندنی ئەمە لە شەقامەکانی قاهیرە.

So I took one "no" off a tombstone from

the Islamic Museum in Cairo, and I added a message to it:

بەڵام ئەمە بردی بۆ زنجیرەیەک نەخێر، کە کتێبێکی لێ بەرهەمهات

وەک چەک و تەقەمەنی و زیادکردنی پەیام بۆیان،

"no to military rule."

And I started spraying that on the streets in Cairo.

و دەستم کرد بە نەخشاندنیان لەسەر دیوارەکان.

But that led to a series of no, coming out of the book

بۆیە هەندێک لەمانەتان بۆ باس دەکەم.

like ammunition, and adding messages to them,

نەخێر بۆ فیرعەونێکی نوێ، لەبەر ئەوەی هەر یەکێک هات

دەبێت بزانێت ئێمە لەلایەن دکتاتۆرێکی تر حوکم ناکرێین.

and I started spraying them on the walls.

So I'll be sharing some of these noes with you.

نەخێر بۆ توندوتیژی: رامی ئیسام هات بۆ تاهیرە

No to a new Pharaoh, because whoever comes next

لە رۆژی دووەمی شۆرشەکە،

should understand that we will never be ruled by another dictator.

بە گیتارەکەیەوە لەوێ دانیشت و گۆرانی گووت.

No to violence: Ramy Essam came to Tahrir

مانگێک دوای ئەوەی موبارەک لەناوبردرا ، ئەمە خەڵاتەکەی بوو.

on the second day of the revolution,

نەخێر بۆ کۆرەکردنی پاڵەوانەکان. ئەحمەد هەرارا چاوی راستی لەدەست دا

and he sat there with this guitar, singing.

One month after Mubarak stepped down, this was his reward.

لە ٢٨ کانوونی دووەم،

و چاوی چەپی لەدەست دا لە ١٩ تشرینی دووەم،

No to blinding heroes. Ahmed Harara lost his right eye

لەلایەن دوو نیشانەشکێنی جیاواز.

on the 28th of January,

نەخێر بۆ کوشتن، لەم حاڵەتەدا نەخێر بۆ کوشتنی کەسە ئایینییەکان،

and he lost his left eye on the 19th of November,

لەبەر ئەوەی شێخ ئەحمەد ئەدینا رافات پێکرا

by two different snipers.

لە ١٦ کانوونی یەکەم، لەکاتی خۆپیشاندان،

No to killing, in this case no to killing men of religion,

سێ هەتیوو و بێوەژنێکی دوای خۆی بەجێ هێشت.

because Sheikh Ahmed Adina Refaat was shot

نەخێر بۆ سووتاندنی کتێبەکان، کتێبخانەی میسر سوتێنرا

on December 16th, during a demonstration,

لە ١٧ کانوونی یەکەم، لەداستدانێکی گەورەی کلتوور.

leaving behind three orphans and a widow.

نەخێر بۆ دەستدرێژیکردنە سەر خەڵک،

No to burning books. The Institute of Egypt was burned

و سوخمە شینەکە وەکو شەرمەزاری ئێمە ماوەتەوە

on December 17th, a huge cultural loss.

وەکو نەتەوەیەک کە ناهێلین ژنانمان دەستدێژیان بکرێتە سەر

No to stripping the people,

و لێیان بدرێت لەسەر شەقام، و پەنجەکان دەخوێننەوە،

and the blue bra is to remind us of our shame

as a nation when we allow a veiled woman to be stripped

بژی شۆڕشێکی ئاشتیخوازانە

لەبەر ئەوەی ئێمە قەت لەگەڵ تووندوتیژی نەبووین.

and beaten on the street, and the footprint reads,

نا بۆ نەربەستەکانی دیوار. لە ٥ شوبات،

"Long live a peaceful revolution,"

بەربەستە کۆنکریتیەکان لە قاهیرە دانران

because we will never retaliate with violence.

بۆ پاراستنی وەزیری بەرگری لە خۆپیشاندەران.

No to barrier walls. On February 5th,

concrete roadblocks were set up in Cairo

بە قسەکردن لەسەر دیوارەکان، با چیرۆکێکتان بۆ باس کەم

لەسەر دیوارێک لە قاهیرە.

to protect the Ministry of Defense from protesters.

گرووپێک لە هوونەرمەندان بریاریاندا بە دروستکردنی تانکێکی گەورە

Now, speaking of walls, I want to share with you the story

لەسەر دیوار. ئەوە یەکەمیان.

of one wall in Cairo.

لە پێش بارهەڵگرەکە پیاوێک هەیە لەسەر پایسکیل

A group of artists decided to paint a life-size tank

لەگەڵ سەلەیەکی نان لەسەر سەری. بەلای هەر تێپەربوویەک،

on a wall. It's one to one.

هیچ کێشەیەک نییە لەگەڵ دیمەنەکە.

In front of this tank there's a man on a bicycle

دوای توندووتیژییەکە، هونەرمەندێژی تر هات،

with a breadbasket on his head. To any passerby,

خوێنی نەخشاند، خۆپیشاندەران دوورخرانەوە بە زرێپۆش،

there's no problem with this visual.

After acts of violence, another artist came,

خۆپیشاندەران، و نامەکەیان کە خوێندرایەوە،

“ بەیانی دەست پێدەکات، من رووخسارێکی نوێم پۆشی،

painted blood, protesters being run over by the tank,

بەرگی هەموو زۆردارێک. من هەم.”

demonstrators, and a message that read,

دەسەڵات گەیشت، دیوارەکەی سپی کرد،

"Starting tomorrow, I wear the new face,

زرێپۆشەکەیان بەجێ هێشت و نامەیەکیان زیاد کرد:

the face of every martyr. I exist."

“ سوپا و خەڵک، یەک دەست. میسر بۆ میسرییەکان.”

Authority comes, paints the wall white,

هونەرمەندێکی تر هات، وێنەی سەرۆکی سووپای نەخشامد

leaves the tank and adds a message:

"Army and people, one hand. Egypt for Egyptians."

وەکو دڕندەیەک کە کچ دەخوات لەسەر رووبارێکی خوێناوی

لە پێش زرێپۆشەکە.

Another artist comes, paints the head of the military

دەسەڵات گەیشت و دیوارەکەی سپی کرد و زرێپۆشەکەی جێهێشت،

as a monster eating a maiden in a river of blood

جلەکانی جێ هێشت، و سەتلەکەی فرێدا

in front of the tank.

بۆ شاردنەوەی دەمووچاوی دڕندەکە.

Authority comes, paints the wall white, leaves the tank,

من لەگەڵ کاغەزەکانم هاتم و لەسەر جلەکان رەنگم کرد،

leaves the suit, and throws a bucket of black paint

لەسەر زرێپۆشەکە و تەواوی دیوارەکە،

و ئێستاش هەر بەم شێوەیەیە

just to hide the face of the monster.

So I come with my stencils, and I spray them on the suit,

لە کۆتا زانیاریمەوە. (پێکەنین)

ئێستا، دەمەوێت لەگەڵ کۆتا نەخێر بەخێتان بێڵم.

on the tank, and on the whole wall,

نێرودام دۆزییەوە لەسەر پارچەیەک لە کاغەز

and this is how it stands today

until further notice. (Laughter)

لە ناوچەی نەخۆشخانە لە تاهیرە، بریارمدا نەخێرێک لادەم

Now, I want to leave you with a final no.

I found Neruda scribbled on a piece of paper

لەسەر مامۆلوک ماوسۆلیوم لە قاهیرە.

in a field hospital in Tahrir, and I decided to take a no of

نامەکە خوێندرایەوە،

( عەرەبی)

Mamluk Mausoleum in Cairo.

The message reads,

دەتوانیت گوڵەکانم کەناوبەریت، بەڵام ناتوانیت وێنەکێشانەکە دواخەیت.

سوپاس. (چەپلە لێدان)

"You can crush the flowers, but you can't delay spring."
