So the Awesome story:

قصة الحياة " الرائعة "

It begins about 40 years ago,

لقد بدأت هذه القصة منذ 40 عام

when my mom and my dad came to Canada.

عندما جاء والدي الى كندا

My mom left Nairobi, Kenya.

فقد تركت والدتي نيروبي " كينيا "

My dad left a small village outside of Amritsar, India.

وترك والدي قرية صغيرة خارج مدينة امريتسار " الهند "

And they got here in the late 1960s.

وقد وصلوا الى هنا في اواخر الستينات من القرن الماضي

They settled in a shady suburb about an hour east of Toronto,

لقد استقروا في ضاحية بسيطة تبعد نحو ساعة عن تورنتو

and they settled into a new life.

وقد بدأوا حياتهم الجديدة ..

They saw their first dentist,

قابلوا طبيب الاسنان لاول مرة

they ate their first hamburger,

ورؤا الهمبرغر لأول مرة

and they had their first kids.

وأنجبوا الاطفال

My sister and I

انا واختي .

grew up here,

وقد كبرنا هنا

and we had quiet, happy childhoods.

وقد عشنا حياة طفولة هادئة وسعيدة

We had close family,

وكنا عائلة مترابطة

good friends, a quiet street.

وكنا نملك اصدقاء رائعين .. وشارع هادىء

We grew up taking for granted

وكنا نعتبر من المسلمات الكثير من الامور

a lot of the things that my parents couldn't take for granted

التي لم يكن والدي يعتبراها كذلك ..

when they grew up --

عندما كانوا يكبرون هم في بيئتهم

things like power always on

فالكهرباء دائما موجودة

in our houses,

في منزلنا

things like schools across the street

المدارس قريبة من مناطق السكن

and hospitals down the road

وكذلك المستشفيات

and popsicles in the backyard.

ومنطقة ألعاب في فناء المنزل

We grew up, and we grew older.

لقد كبرنا .. وكبرنا

I went to high school.

لقد ذهبت الى المدرسة الثانوية

I graduated.

ومن ثم تخرجت

I moved out of the house, I got a job,

ومن ثم خرجت من المنزل .. وحصلت على عمل

I found a girl, I settled down --

وجدت فتاة .. واستقريت معها

and I realize it sounds like a bad sitcom or a Cat Stevens' song --

ويبدو وكأنني اغني اغنية من اغاني كات ستيفينز ..او اني اسرد مسرحية هزلية

(Laughter)

but life was pretty good.

لقد كانت الحياة رائعة ..

Life was pretty good.

نعم لقد كانت رائعة

2006 was a great year.

2006 كانت سنة رائعة

Under clear blue skies in July in the wine region of Ontario,

ففيها وتحت اجواء السماء الصافية في منتصف يوليو/ تموز .. وفي ولاية واين من اونتاريو

I got married,

عقدت قراني

surrounded by 150 family and friends.

محاطاً ب 150 شخص من الاصدقاء والعائلة

2007 was a great year.

وسنة 2007 كانت رائعة

I graduated from school,

فقد تخرجت من الجامعة

and I went on a road trip with two of my closest friends.

وذهبت في رحلة مطولة عبر البلاد مع 2 من اقرب اصدقائي

Here's a picture of me and my friend, Chris,

وهذه صورة لي ولصديقي كريس

on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.

على ساحل المحيط الهادىء

We actually saw seals out of our car window,

لقد شاهدنا تجمعاً لفقم البحر من نافذة السيارة

and we pulled over to take a quick picture of them

فأوقفناها وهرعنا على الفور لكي نلتقط صورة لنا معهم

and then blocked them with our giant heads.

وكان حجبنا صور فقم البحر من شدة ذكائنا برؤوسنا الكبيرة

So you can't actually see them,

مما حجب رؤية ذلك المشهد

but it was breathtaking,

believe me.

2008 and 2009 were a little tougher.

2008 و 2009 كانتا أصعب ..

I know that they were tougher for a lot of people,

اعرف انهما كانتا كذلك على الكثير من الناس

not just me.

ليس انا فحسب

First of all, the news was so heavy.

ولكن الاخبار كانت صعبة على النفس ان تتقبلها

It's still heavy now, and it was heavy before that,

ومازالت كذلك .. نعم لقد كانت صعبة على النفس

but when you flipped open a newspaper, when you turned on the TV,

فعندما تقرأ الصحف .. او تفتح التلفاز

it was about ice caps melting,

فان الذي تسمعه .. عن ذوبان الجبال الجليدية

wars going on around the world,

والحروب التي تجتاح العالم

earthquakes, hurricanes

والهزات الارضية .. والاعصاير

and an economy that was wobbling on the brink of collapse,

والاقتصاد الذي ترنح على مقربة من الانهيار التام

and then eventually did collapse,

مما دفع كل شي حوله الى الانهيار

and so many of us losing our homes,

فخسر الكثيرون منا منازلهم

or our jobs,

ووظائفهم

or our retirements,

وإجازاتهم

or our livelihoods.

وأحيائهم

2008, 2009 were heavy years for me for another reason, too.

2008 و 2009 كانتا سنتين صعبتين بالنسبة لي لاسباب اخرى ايضا

I was going through a lot of personal problems at the time.

فقد كنت امر بالكثير من المشاكل الشخصية

My marriage wasn't going well,

فقد كان زواجي يتعثر

and we just were growing further and further apart.

وكنا نبتعد يوما بعد يوم عن بعضنا الاخر - انا وزوجتي -

One day my wife came home from work

حتى عادت ذات يوم زوجتي من عملها

and summoned the courage, through a lot of tears,

وتشجعت وقالت لي الحقيقة .. بين كثير من الدموع

to have a very honest conversation.

حيث كانت صريحة للغاية

And she said, "I don't love you anymore,"

فقالت لي " انا لم اعد احبك ! "

and it was one of the most painful things I'd ever heard

وكان هذا اكثر أمر مؤلم سمعته في حياتي

and certainly the most heartbreaking thing I'd ever heard,

واكثر شيء حطم قلبي كنت قد سمعته من ذي قبل

until only a month later,

حتى الشهر الماضي فقط

when I heard something even more heartbreaking.

عندما سمعت خبراً آخر حطم قلبي اكثر و اكثر

My friend Chris, who I just showed you a picture of,

ان صديقي كريس .. الذي اريتكم صورته من قليل

had been battling mental illness for some time.

كان يعاني من بعض المشاكل العقلية لفترة من الزمن

And for those of you

وان كان منكم

whose lives have been touched by mental illness,

من يحتك بمن يعانون من المشاكل العقلية

you know how challenging it can be.

فانتم تعرفون كم هو صعب هذا الامر ..

I spoke to him on the phone at 10:30 p.m.

كنت اتحدث اليه في 10:30 مساءاً

on a Sunday night.

في ليلة الاحد

We talked about the TV show we watched that evening.

وتحدثنا عن بعض البرامج التلفزيونية التي شاهدناها تلك الامسية

And Monday morning, I found out that he disappeared.

وفي صباح الاثنين .. كان قد اختفى ..

Very sadly, he took his own life.

لانه وللأسف .. اقدم على الانتحار

And it was a really heavy time.

وقد كان ذلك الوقت عصيباً جداً علي

And as these dark clouds were circling me,

وكانت تحيط بي الكثير من الغيوم السوداوية حول رأسي

and I was finding it really, really difficult

وكنت اجد التأقلم مع كل هذا شديد الصعوبة

to think of anything good,

دون ان اجد اي أمر إيجابي أتعلق به حينها

I said to myself that I really needed a way

وقلت لنفسي .. انا احتاج طريقة ما

to focus on the positive somehow.

لكي اركز على الايجابيات من حولي

So I came home from work one night,

وذات ليلة بعد ان عدت من العمل

and I logged onto the computer,

خلدت الى كمبيوتري الشخصي

and I started up a tiny website

وأنشأت موقعاً إلكترونياً صغيراً

called 1000awesomethings.com.

اسميته 1000 شيء رائع . كوم (1000awesomethings.com)

I was trying to remind myself

كنت احاول ان اذكر نفسي

of the simple, universal, little pleasures that we all love,

بتلك الامور البسيطة الرائعة التي تعطينا ايها الحياة دون ان ننتبه اليها

but we just don't talk about enough --

والتي لا نتحدث عنها كثيراً

things like waiters and waitresses

مثل وجود النادل

who bring you free refills without asking,

الذي يأتي ويعيد ملء كأسك مجددا دون ان تطلب منه ذلك

being the first table to get called up

مثل ان تكون جالساً على الطاولة الاولى

to the dinner buffet at a wedding,

التي يقدم لها الطعام في الاعراس

wearing warm underwear from just out of the dryer,

مثل ارتداء الملابس الداخلية الساخنة فور خروجها من النشافة

or when cashiers open up a new check-out lane at the grocery store

او عندما يبدأ خط انتظار جديد لدفع سعر احتياجاتك التي اشتريتها من المخزن ...

and you get to be first in line --

وتكون انت الاول فيه

even if you were last at the other line, swoop right in there.

حتى لو كنت الاخير في صف مجاور .. فأنت تهرع لكي تأخذ المكان الاول في الصف الجديد

(Laughter)

(ضحك)

And slowly over time,

وشيئاً فشيء بدأ ...

I started putting myself in a better mood.

مزاجي يتحسن

I mean, 50,000 blogs

اتعلمون كل يوم يتم تأسيس 50000 مدونة

are started a day,

كل يوم

and so my blog was just one of those 50,000.

وكانت مدونتي واحدة من تلك 50000

And nobody read it except for my mom.

ولم يكن أحد يقرأها سوى والدتي

Although I should say that my traffic did skyrocket

وقد ارتفع ذات يوم معدل الولوج الى مدونتي

and go up by 100 percent

100%

when she forwarded it to my dad.

لان والدتي نصحت والدي بالدخول اليها

(Laughter)

(ضحك)

And then I got excited

ومن ثم بدأت اتحمس

when it started getting tens of hits,

عندما بدأ العشرات يدخلون الى المدونة

and then I started getting excited when it started getting dozens

ومن ثم بات اكثر فأكثر يرتفع الرقم مما زاد حماسي

and then hundreds and then thousands

وقد وصل الرقم الى المئات ... فالالاف

and then millions.

فالملايين

It started getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

وبدأ الرقم بالنمو .. والنمو

And then I got a phone call,

حتى ذات يوم جائني اتصال هاتفي

and the voice at the other end of the line said,

وكان الشخص المقابل يقول لي

"You've just won the Best Blog In the World award."

لقد ربحت جائزة افضل مدونة في العالم

I was like, that sounds totally fake.

فقلت في نفسي لابد وانها خدعة ما

(Laughter)

(ضحك)

(Applause)

(تصفيق)

Which African country do you want me to wire all my money to?

فسألته إلى أي دولة افريقية يجب ان أحول معلوماتي البنكية ؟

(Laughter)

(ضحك)

But it turns out, I jumped on a plane,

ولكن كان ذلك حقيقة .. فسافرت بالطائرة

and I ended up walking a red carpet

وانتهيت بالمشي على السجاد الاحمر

between Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Fallon and Martha Stewart.

بين سارة سيلفيرمان .. وجيمي فالون .. ومارثا ستيورات

And I went onstage to accept a Webby award for Best Blog.

وكانت على المنصة استلم جائزة " ويبي " لافضل مدونة في العام

And the surprise

ومما زاد المفاجئة أكثر

and just the amazement of that

مما حدث ..

was only overshadowed by my return to Toronto,

انه ما ان رجعت الى تورنتو

when, in my inbox,

حتى وجدت في صندوق البريد خاصتي

10 literary agents were waiting for me

10 رسائل من وكلاء كتبوا لي

to talk about putting this into a book.

فيما يخص كتابة كتاب خاص بي اقص به هذه القصة

Flash-forward to the next year

وبالقفز الى السنة التالية

and "The Book of Awesome" has now been

كان كتاب " كتاب عن الروعة " قد جهز

number one on the bestseller list for 20 straight weeks.

واصبح المركز الاول في الكتب الاكثر مبيعاً على مدى 20 اسبوع متتالية

(Applause)

(تصفيق)

But look, I said I wanted to do three things with you today.

ولكن .. اليوم اريد ان اقول 3 اشياء فحسب

I said I wanted to tell you the Awesome story,

اريد ان اخبركم قصة الروعة ..

I wanted to share with you the three As of Awesome,

اريد ان اتشارك معكم 3 من محاور روعة الحياة

and I wanted to leave you with a closing thought.

ومن ثم سأختم بخلاصة نهائية

So let's talk about those three As.

حسناً .. لنبدأ التحدث عن المحاور الثلاث

Over the last few years,

على مدى السنوات الماضية

I haven't had that much time to really think.

لم يكن لدي الوقت لكي افكر كثيراً ..

But lately I have had the opportunity to take a step back

ولكن لاحقاً .. تمكنت من ان ارجع خطوة الى الوراء

and ask myself: "What is it over the last few years

واسئل نفسي .. مالذي ساعدني في السنوات الماضية

that helped me grow my website,

على ان اجعل موقعي ينجح وينمو ..

but also grow myself?"

ويجعلني انا نفسي انجح وانمو ؟

And I've summarized those things, for me personally,

ولقد خرجت بها من اجلي أولا..

as three As.

المحاور الثلاث هي ..

They are Attitude, Awareness

الانطباع عن الحياة .. الإنتباه ..

and Authenticity.

والأصالة

I'd love to just talk about each one briefly.

وسوف اتحدث عن كل واحدة منها باختصار

So Attitude:

إذاً .. الانطباع عن الحياة

Look, we're all going to get lumps,

حسناً جميعاً يمر بأوقات متعثرة ..

and we're all going to get bumps.

واحياناً نواجه المطبات التي تصادفنا في طرقنا ..

None of us can predict the future, but we do know one thing about it

لا احد يستطيع ان يتوقع المستقبل .. ولكننا نكون متأكدين من شيئ واحد فحسب

and that's that it ain't gonna go according to plan.

هو ان الامور لن تسير كما هو مخطط لها

We will all have high highs

تمر علينا لحظات رائعة جداً

and big days and proud moments

فيها لحظات فخر كبيرة ..

of smiles on graduation stages,

والكثير من الابتسامات .. مثل لحظات التخرج من الجامعة

father-daughter dances at weddings

وتلك اللحظات التي يرقص بها الوالد مع إبنته في ليلة عرسها

and healthy babies screeching in the delivery room,

وعندما تنجب زوجاتنا أطفالاً اصحاء في مستشفى الولادة..

but between those high highs,

ولكن بين هذه اللحظات الرائعة

we may also have some lumps and some bumps too.

يمكننا ان نواجه المطبات .. والعثرات

It's sad, and it's not pleasant to talk about,

انه لمحزن .. وليس من المفرح التحدث عنه ..

but your husband might leave you,

ولكن ربما سيتركك زوجك يوما ما ..

your girlfriend could cheat,

ربما ستخونك حبيبتك ..

your headaches might be more serious than you thought,

وربما سيكون الصداع في رأسك أخطر مما كنت تظن ..

or your dog could get hit by a car on the street.

وربما تصدم سيارة كلبك فيلقى حتفه ..

It's not a happy thought,

انها امورٌ تعسة قد تصادفك ..

but your kids could get mixed up in gangs

مثل ان يشارك ابنائك في عصابات الحي ..

or bad scenes.

او في مواقف سيئة محرجة ..

Your mom could get cancer,

او يمكن ان تصاب والدتك بالسرطان

your dad could get mean.

وربما يغدو والدك قاسياً

And there are times in life

وهناك اوقات في الحياة

when you will be tossed in the well, too,

ستغمرك الفرحة أيضاً ..

with twists in your stomach and with holes in your heart,

وسوف تشعر بأوقات يقشعر جسدك لاجلها فرحاً .. ويطير قلبك منها أملاً

and when that bad news washes over you,

وعندما تغمرك الاخبار السيئة ..

and when that pain sponges and soaks in,

وعندما تشعر بأن الألم محيط بك تماما .. وقد أغرقك

I just really hope you feel

أريدك أن تعي وان تعرف

like you've always got two choices.

ان لديك دوماً خياران حيال هذا

One, you can swirl and twirl

الاول .. هو انه يمكنك ان تنوح وتنحب ..

and gloom and doom forever,

وتتذمر وتعترض الى الابد ..

or two, you can grieve

والثاني يمكنك ان تحزن ..

and then face the future

ومن ثم تواجه المستقبل

with newly sober eyes.

بأعين جديدة غسلها الحزن تنظر الى أفق مشرق

Having a great attitude is about choosing option number two,

وان يكون لديك انطباع جيد عن الحياة .. فهو يحتم عليك ان تختار الخيار الثاني

and choosing, no matter how difficult it is,

والخيار ذاك .. مهما كان ذلك صعباً ..

no matter what pain hits you,

ومهما كان سيترتب على ذلك من الالم ..

choosing to move forward and move on

فان الخيار الافضل هو المُضي قدماً ..

and take baby steps into the future.

والمشي بخطى حتى لو كانت صغيرة كخُطى الاطفال .. نحو المستقبل

The second "A" is Awareness.

والمحور الثاني هو الإنتباه

I love hanging out with three year-olds.

انا أحب قضاء الوقت مع الاطفال الذين اعمارهم 3 سنوات

I love the way that they see the world,

احب الطريقة التي يرون بها العالم

because they're seeing the world for the first time.

لانهم يرون العالم أول مرة

I love the way that they can stare at a bug crossing the sidewalk.

احب الطريقة التي يحدق بها الشخص بحشرة تمر بقرب حائط ..

I love the way that they'll stare slack-jawed

احب الطريقة التي ينظر بها الناس الى الامور مبهورين " فاههم مفتوح بما يرون "

at their first baseball game

كما لو انهم يرون مباراة بيسبول لأول مرة

with wide eyes and a mitt on their hand,

بأعين مشرقة .. وايدي من شدة الحماس ندية

soaking in the crack of the bat and the crunch of the peanuts

احب الطريقة التي ينظر بها الناس الى " تشققات الحائط منتظرين خروج الخفافيش .. واحب فتات الفول السوداني

and the smell of the hotdogs.

واحب رائحة النقانق

I love the way that they'll spend hours picking dandelions in the backyard

واحب الطريقة التي يقطف بها الاطفال الهندباء من فناء المنزل ..

and putting them into a nice centerpiece

ومن ثم يضعونها في طبق مرتب لأجل

for Thanksgiving dinner.

عشاء عيد الشكر

I love the way that they see the world,

احب الطريقة التي ينظر بها هؤلاء الاطفال الى العالم

because they're seeing the world

لانهم يرون العالم

for the first time.

كما لو أنهم يرونه اول مرة

Having a sense of awareness

ان هذا الشعور بالانتباه ..

is just about embracing your inner three year-old.

يجعلك تنمي روح الطفل ابن الثالثة في نفسك

Because you all used to be three years old.

لاننا جميعاً كنا في مرحلة ما اطفال ابناء ثالثة ..

That three-year-old boy is still part of you.

وان هذا الطفل ابن الثالثة .. هو جزء من شخصيتك ..

That three-year-old girl is still part of you.

ان تلك الطفلة ابنة الثالثة .. هي جزء من شخصيتك ..

They're in there.

انهم مازالوا في شخصيتنا ..

And being aware is just about remembering

وان الانتباه لهذه الامور الرائعة .. يذكرك

that you saw everything you've seen

بتلك الامور التي رأيتها ..

for the first time once, too.

لاول مرة .. فتعيد الكرة كما لو انها اول مرة مجددا ..

So there was a time when it was your first time ever

كان هناك يوماً ما نظرت فيه الى الحياة .. بأول نظرة ..

hitting a string of green lights on the way home from work.

اتذكر ذلك اليوم الذي قدت فيه سيارتك .. وكانت كل الاشارات خضراء في طريقك ..

There was the first time you walked by the open door of a bakery

اتذكر ذلك اليوم الذي سرت به من قرب محل بيع الفطائر ..

and smelt the bakery air,

واستمتعت برائحة الفطائر

or the first time you pulled a 20-dollar bill out of your old jacket pocket

او المرة الاولى .. التي وجدت فيها 20 دولار في جيب سترة قديمة ..

and said, "Found money."

ففرحت كما لو انك وجدت كنزاً

The last "A" is Authenticity.

والمحور الثالث .. هو الاصالة ..

And for this one, I want to tell you a quick story.

دعوني اخبركم قصة بصورة سريعة ..

Let's go all the way back to 1932

لنعد الى عام 1932

when, on a peanut farm in Georgia,

عندما ولد طفل في مزرعة فول سوداني في جورجيا

a little baby boy named Roosevelt Grier was born.

كان يدعى .. روزفلت جارير

Roosevelt Grier, or Rosey Grier, as people used to call him,

روزفلت جارير .. او روزي جارير كما كان يطلق عليه الناس حينها

grew up and grew into

هناك كبر هذا الطفل ..

a 300-pound, six-foot-five linebacker in the NFL.

ليصبح لاعب كرة قدم امريكية .. يزن 300 رطل

He's number 76 in the picture.

وهو حامل الرقم 76 في هذه الصورة ..

Here he is pictured with the "fearsome foursome."

هنا كان في الصورة مع ما كان يلقب بالرباعي المدمر ..

These were four guys on the L.A. Rams in the 1960s

هذا الرباعي الذي كان يلعب في فريق " اكباش لوس أنجلس " في عام 1960

you did not want to go up against.

حيث كان الجميع يتهرب من مواجهتهم ..

They were tough football players doing what they love,

كان هؤلاء الاربعة يلعبون كرة القدم .. وكانوا يقومون بما يحبون ..

which was crushing skulls

تحطيم الرؤوس ..

and separating shoulders on the football field.

وخلع الاكتاف في ملاعب كرة القدم الامريكية ..

But Rosey Grier also had

ولكن روزي جارير .. كان لديه

another passion.

شغف آخر ..

In his deeply authentic self,

كان متصالحٌ جداً مع دواخله ..

he also loved needlepoint. (Laughter)

ايضا كان يحب التطريز بالابر ..

He loved knitting.

كان يحب الخياطة ..

He said that it calmed him down, it relaxed him,

وكان يقول عن هذه الهواية .. انها تريحه

it took away his fear of flying and helped him meet chicks.

وساعدته على التخلص من الخوف من الطيران .. وساعدته على الالتقاء بالفتيات ..

That's what he said.

هذا ما كان يقوله ..

I mean, he loved it so much that, after he retired from the NFL,

وكان يحبها كثيراً .. لدرجة انه بعد ان اعتزل كرة القدم الامريكية ..

he started joining clubs.

انضم الى نوادي خياطة ..

And he even put out a book

ومن ثم كتب كتاباً عن هذه الهواية

called "Rosey Grier's Needlepoint for Men."

يسمى " كتاب روزي جارير عن الخياطة للرجال "

It's a great cover.

انه غلاف كتاب جميل ..

If you notice, he's actually needlepointing his own face.

ان انتبهتم .. انه يخيط صورة لوجهه

And so what I love about this story

وهذا ما أحبه فيما يخص هذه القصة

is that Rosey Grier

هو ان روزي جارير

is just such an authentic person,

شخص أصيلٌ جداً ..

and that's what authenticity is all about.

وهذه هي الاصالة ..

It's just about being you and being cool with that.

ان تكون نفسك .. وان تسعد بذلك ..

And I think when you're authentic,

واعتقد انه عندما تكون " اصيلاً "

you end up following your heart,

سوف تسير خلف شغفك - قلبك -

and you put yourself in places

وتضع نفسك في المكان

and situations and in conversations

والموقع .. والتواصل بين الاشخاص

that you love and that you enjoy.

الذي تحب .. والذي تستمتع به

You meet people that you like talking to.

وسوف تقابل اشخاصاً ستحب التحدث إليهم ..

You go places you've dreamt about.

وسوف تذهب الى الاماكن التي لطالما حلمت ان تذهب اليها ..

And you end you end up following your heart

لانك سوف تتبع شغفك - قلبك -

and feeling very fulfilled.

وسوف تشعر بالامتنان .. والاكتفاء

So those are the three A's.

هذه هي المحاور الثلاث لروعة الحياة ..

For the closing thought, I want to take you all the way back

ولكي انهي هذه المحادثة .. اريد ان اعود بكم .. الى قصة

to my parents coming to Canada.

قدوم والديَّ الى كندا ..

I don't know what it would feel like

انا لا اعلم كيف كان شعورهم حينها

coming to a new country when you're in your mid-20s.

عندما قدموا الى بلدٍ جديد .. وهم في العشرينات من عمرهم ..

I don't know, because I never did it,

لا اعرف هذا الشعور .. لانني لم اقم بذلك ..

but I would imagine that it would take a great attitude.

ولكن اعتقد ان ذلك تطلب جرأة كبيرة

I would imagine that you'd have to be pretty aware of your surroundings

واعتقد ان هذا أحاطهم بإدارك رائع لمحيطهم الجديد ..

and appreciating the small wonders

وتبع ذلك .. تقديراً كبيراً لكل الامور الرائعة الصغيرة التي أحاطت بهم آنذاك

that you're starting to see in your new world.

عندما تبدأ حياة جديدة .. في عالم جديد ..

And I think you'd have to be really authentic,

ان ذلك يتطلب منك أصالة حقيقة ..

you'd have to be really true to yourself

وان تكون نفسك حقاً ..

in order to get through what you're being exposed to.

لكي تستطيع ان تستقبل كل هذه الامور الجديدة التي ستصادفك حينها ..

I'd like to pause my TEDTalk

واريد ان اوقف محادثتي هنا في مؤتمر تيد ..

for about 10 seconds right now,

ل 10 ثوان ..

because you don't get many opportunities in life to do something like this,

لاننا لا نحصل على فرصٍ كهذه عادة ..

and my parents are sitting in the front row.

فوالدي يجلسان هنا في الصف الاول ..

So I wanted to ask them to, if they don't mind, stand up.

واريد ان اطلب منهم الوقوف - ان لم يمانعا ذلك -

And I just wanted to say thank you to you guys.

واريد أن اقول لهم - شُكراً جزيلاً لكم -

(Applause)

When I was growing up, my dad used to love telling the story

عندما كنت أكبر في هذه الحياة .. كان والدي يحب ان يخبرني

of his first day in Canada.

قصة يومه الاول في كندا ..

And it's a great story, because what happened was

انها قصة رائعة . حيث انه حينها ما ان هبطوا

he got off the plane at the Toronto airport,

من الطائرة في مطار تورنتو ..

and he was welcomed by a non-profit group,

حتى رحبت بهم منظمة غير ربحية ..

which I'm sure someone in this room runs.

وأخذت بيدهم الى غرفة إستقبال

(Laughter)

(ضحك)

And this non-profit group had a big welcoming lunch

وهذه المنظمة كانت تنظم حفل عشاء استقبال كبير

for all the new immigrants to Canada.

لكل المهاجرين الجدد القادمون إلى كندا ..

And my dad says he got off the plane and he went to this lunch

وكان والدي قد خرج من الطائرة الى هذا العشاء ..

and there was this huge spread.

وكان هناك الكثير من الطعام

There was bread, there was those little, mini dill pickles,

الكثير من انواع الخبز .. والكثير من المخللات ..

there was olives, those little white onions.

وانواع الزيتون .. والبصل الابيض الصغير ..

There was rolled up turkey cold cuts,

ولفائف قطع اللحم المدخن

rolled up ham cold cuts, rolled up roast beef cold cuts

والمرتديلا .. واللحوم الباردة ..

and little cubes of cheese.

ومكعبات الجبن ..

There was tuna salad sandwiches and egg salad sandwiches

وسندويشات التونة والبيض والسلطة ..

and salmon salad sandwiches.

وسندويشات سمك التونة مع الخضار

There was lasagna, there was casseroles,

وكان هناك اللزانيا .. والعديد من الكاسرولز - أوعية مقاومة للحرارة - مليئة بأنواع من الاطعمة

there was brownies, there was butter tarts,

وحلوى البرواني .. وكعك الزبدة ..

and there was pies, lots and lots of pies.

والفطائر .. الكثير من الفطائر ..

And when my dad tells the story, he says,

وعندما كان يخبرني والدي هذه القصة .. كان يقول ..

"The craziest thing was, I'd never seen any of that before, except bread.

لقد كان يوماً " جنونياً " فأنا لا أعرف أي نوع من هذه الانوع .. بإستثناء الخبز !

(Laughter)

(ضحك)

I didn't know what was meat, what was vegetarian.

فلم يكن يعرف اللحوم .. لانه كان نباتي

I was eating olives with pie.

وكان يأكل الزيتون مع الفطائر

(Laughter)

(ضحك)

I just couldn't believe how many things you can get here."

لم أكن أعرف كم من القدر يمكنني أن أأكل حينها

(Laughter)

(ضحك)

When I was five years old,

عندما كنت ابن خامسة ..

my dad used to take me grocery shopping,

كان والدي يأخذني معه الى متجر الخضار ..

and he would stare in wonder

وكان يشاهد كل الامور الموجودة فيه " بعين طفل " متفاجىء ..

at the little stickers that are on the fruits and vegetables.

وكان يحب قراءة كل الملصقات التي توضع على الفواكه والخضار ..

He would say, "Look, can you believe they have a mango here from Mexico?

وكان يقول لي .. هل تصدق أن هذه المناجا جائت من المكسيك ؟

They've got an apple here from South Africa.

وهذا التفاح من جنوب أفريقيا ..

Can you believe they've got a date from Morocco?"

وهذا البلح .. هل تصدق انه جاء من المغرب !

He's like, "Do you know where Morocco even is?"

هل تعرف أين تقع المغرب بحق الإله !

And I'd say, "I'm five. I don't even know where I am.

فأقول له .. " والدي انا في الخامسة من عمري .. انا لا أعرف في أي بلد اقطن !

Is this A&P?"

هل هذا متجر " إيه و بي " - سلسلة متاجر شهيرة في كندا -

And he'd say, "I don't know where Morocco is either, but let's find out."

وكان يقول لي .. انا لا اعلم أيضاً اين هي المغرب .. ولكن لنتعرف على ذلك ..

And so we'd buy the date, and we'd go home.

وكان والدي يشتري البلح .. ويذهب الى المنزل ..

And we'd actually take an atlas off the shelf,

ومن ثم يخرج الاطلس من رف المكتبة ..

and we'd flip through until we found this mysterious country.

ويبدأ بالتقليب حتى يجد ذلك البلد الغامض ..

And when we did, my dad would say,

وعندما يجده .. يقول لي ..

"Can you believe someone climbed a tree over there,

تصور يا بني .. لقد تسلق احدهم النخل هناك ..

picked this thing off it, put it in a truck,

واقتطف هذا البلح .. ووضعه في شاحنة

drove it all the way to the docks

ومن ثم الى الميناء ..

and then sailed it all the way

ومن ثم أبحرت

across the Atlantic Ocean

كل البحر الاطلنطي ..

and then put it in another truck

ووضع هذا البلح في شاحنة اخرى ..

and drove that all the way to a tiny grocery store just outside our house,

وسير بها الى هذا المتجر الصغير القريب من منزلنا ..

so they could sell it to us for 25 cents?"

لكي يباع لنا ل 25 سنتاً !

And I'd say, "I don't believe that."

وكنت أقول .. " لا اصدق هذا "

And he's like, "I don't believe it either.

فيرد علي ويقول " ولا أنا "

Things are amazing. There's just so many things to be happy about."

ان هذه الاشياء رائعة جداً .. انها الاشياء التي يجب ان نُسعد من اجلها ..

When I stop to think about it, he's absolutely right.

وعندما اتوقف لكي أفكر بكلامه .. اجد انه مصيبٌ جداً فيما كان يقول .

There are so many things to be happy about.

فهناك الكثير من الاشياء التي يجب ان نسعد من اجلها

We are the only species

نحن المخلوقات الوحيدة ..

on the only life-giving rock

على هذا الكوكب ..

in the entire universe that we've ever seen,

وفي هذا الكون ..

capable of experiencing

القادرون على تجربة الكثير

so many of these things.

من هذه التجارب

I mean, we're the only ones with architecture and agriculture.

أعني .. نحن المخلوقات الوحيدة الذين نملك - هندسة العمارة .. و الزراعة -

We're the only ones with jewelry and democracy.

نحن الوحيدون الذين نملك المجوهرات والديموقراطية ..

We've got airplanes, highway lanes,

الطائرات .. والطرق السريعة ..

interior design and horoscope signs.

التصميم الداخلي .. والابراج اليومية ..

We've got fashion magazines, house party scenes.

لدينا مجلات فيما يخص الازياء .. وحفلات منزلية رائعة ..

You can watch a horror movie with monsters.

يمكننا ان نشاهد افلام رعب ونتعرف على الوحوش ..

You can go to a concert and hear guitars jamming.

ومن ثم نذهب الى حفل .. ونستمع الى عازفي الجيتار

We've got books, buffets and radio waves,

لدينا الكتب .. والبوفيهات .. والموجات الاذاعية

wedding brides and rollercoaster rides.

الاعراس .. ومدن الملاهي - الافعوانيات -

You can sleep in clean sheets.

يمكننا النوم في ملائات نظيفة ..

You can go to the movies and get good seats.

ويمكننا ان نذهب الى دور السينما .. وننعم بأماكن جلوس رائعة ..

You can smell bakery air, walk around with rain hair,

يمكننا ان نستمتع برائحة متاجر الفطائر .. وان نستمتع بالسير تحت المطر ..

pop bubble wrap or take an illegal nap.

ويمكننا ان نغلف هدايانا بلفائف فقاعية .. ويمكننا ان نغط في قيلولة في أماكن عامة - بصورة غير شرعية -

We've got all that,

نحن نملك كل هذا ..

but we've only got 100 years to enjoy it.

ولكن لدينا فحسب 100 عام لكي نستمتع بكل هذا

And that's the sad part.

وهذا هو الجزء المحزن في الامر

The cashiers at your grocery store,

فكل المحاسبون في المتاجر ..

the foreman at your plant,

وكل العاملون على هذا الكوكب ..

the guy tailgating you home on the highway,

والشخص الذي يأخذ رسوم العبور على الطرق السريعة ..

the telemarketer calling you during dinner,

والمندوب الاعلاني الذي يهاتفك وانت على عشائك مع عائلتك

every teacher you've ever had,

والمدرسون الذين درسونا ..

everyone that's ever woken up beside you,

وكل شخص عمل معك ..

every politician in every country,

وكل سياسي في دولتك ..

every actor in every movie,

وكل ممثل في كل فلم ..

every single person in your family, everyone you love,

وكل شخص في عائلتك .. وكل شخص تحبه ..

everyone in this room and you

وكل شخص في هذه الغرفة .. و أنت أيضاً

will be dead in a hundred years.

سوف نموت خلال 100 عام ..

Life is so great that we only get such a short time

ان الحياة رائعة جداً .. ونحن نملك الوقت القليل

to experience and enjoy

لكي نستمتع ونجرب كل هذه الامور

all those tiny little moments that make it so sweet.

الصغيرة الرائعة التي تجعل هذه الحياة مثيرة وجميلة

And that moment is right now,

وهذه اللحظات هي الآن ..

and those moments are counting down,

هي هذه اللحظات التي تضيع منا ..

and those moments are always, always, always fleeting.

هي اللحظات التي تستمر دوماً .. دوماً دون كلل ... وتضيع من بين أيدينا ..

You will never be as young as you are right now.

فالوقت الذي مضى من عمرك لن يعود .. وشبابك لن يعود ..

And that's why I believe that if you live your life

وانا اعتقد ان هذا هو السبب الذي يحتم عليك

with a great attitude,

ان تعيش بإنطباع رائع عن الحياة

choosing to move forward and move on

وان تختار دوماً ان تسير قدماً ..

whenever life deals you a blow,

في كل مرة تُثقل عليك الحياة بمآسيها ..

living with a sense of awareness of the world around you,

وعليك ان تعيش بوعي وإدارك تام للامور المحيطة بعالمك ...

embracing your inner three year-old

وان تنمي الطفل ابن ال3 أعوام في نفسك

and seeing the tiny joys that make life so sweet

وان ترى من حولك هذه الامور الصغيرة الرائعة .. التي تجعل من الحياة جميلة ..

and being authentic to yourself,

وان تعيش بأصالة ..

being you and being cool with that,

وان تكون نفسك .. وان تفتخر بذلك وتسعد به

letting your heart lead you and putting yourself in experiences that satisfy you,

وان تجعل شغفك - قلبك - يقودك لكي تقوم بالتجارب التي ستسعدك وترضيك ..

then I think you'll live a life

وبعد هذا لا بد وان تعيش حياة ..

that is rich and is satisfying,

غنية وكثيفة جداً ومرضية لابعد الحدود ..

and I think you'll live a life that is truly awesome.

واعتقد ان بهذا تكمن الروعة الحقيقة .. روعة الحياة
