It begins about 40 years ago,

when my mom and my dad came to Canada.

2006 was a great year.

Under clear blue skies in July in the wine region of Ontario,

I got married,

surrounded by 150 family and friends.

2007 was a great year.

and I went on a road trip with two of my closest friends.

We actually saw seals out of our car window,

So you can't actually see them,

2008 and 2009 were a little tougher.

I know that they were tougher for a lot of people,

not just me.

First of all, the news was so heavy.

It's still heavy now, and it was heavy before that,

but when you flipped open a newspaper, when you turned on the TV,

it was about ice caps melting,

wars going on around the world,

earthquakes, hurricanes

and so many of us losing our homes,

2008, 2009 were heavy years for me for another reason, too.

I was going through a lot of personal problems at the time.

My marriage wasn't going well,

One day my wife came home from work

and summoned the courage, through a lot of tears,

and it was one of the most painful things I'd ever heard

My friend Chris, who I just showed you a picture of,

And Monday morning, I found out that he disappeared.

Very sadly, he took his own life.

And it was a really heavy time.

And as these dark clouds were circling me,

and I was finding it really, really difficult

I was trying to remind myself

of the simple, universal, little pleasures that we all love,

but we just don't talk about enough --

things like waiters and waitresses

who bring you free refills without asking,

And slowly over time,

I started putting myself in a better mood.

Although I should say that my traffic did skyrocket

And then I got excited

But it turns out, I jumped on a plane,

Flash-forward to the next year

But look, I said I wanted to do three things with you today.

I wanted to share with you the three As of Awesome,

So let's talk about those three As.

Over the last few years,

I haven't had that much time to really think.

But lately I have had the opportunity to take a step back

and ask myself: "What is it over the last few years

that helped me grow my website,

And I've summarized those things, for me personally,

I'd love to just talk about each one briefly.

So Attitude:

Look, we're all going to get lumps,

ببینید همه ما دچار دردسر می شیم،

and we're all going to get bumps.

و همه ما در زندگی پستی بلندی داریم،

None of us can predict the future, but we do know one thing about it

هیچکدوم نمی تونیم آینده را پیش بینی کنیم اما یه چیزی می دونیم،

and that's that it ain't gonna go according to plan.

و اون اینکه دقیقا طبق برنامه ما پیش نخواهد رفت.

We will all have high highs

ما روزهای اوج

and big days and proud moments

لحظات باشکوه و بزرگی داریم

of smiles on graduation stages,

خنده های فارغ التحصیلی،

father-daughter dances at weddings

رقص پدر و دختر در مراسم ازدواج،

and healthy babies screeching in the delivery room,

زمان تولد بچه و غریو شادی،

but between those high highs,

اما در این روزهای اوج،

we may also have some lumps and some bumps too.

ممکنه روزهای ناخوشی هم داشته باشیم،

It's sad, and it's not pleasant to talk about,

روزهایی که ناراحت کننده است و دوست نداریم در موردش صحبت کنیم،

but your husband might leave you,

ممکنه همسرتون ترکتون کنه،

your girlfriend could cheat,

دوستتون باهاتون رو راست نباشه،

your headaches might be more serious than you thought,

سر درد تون خیلی جدی تر از اون چیزی که فکر می کنید باشه،

or your dog could get hit by a car on the street.

یا سگتون تو خیابون بره زیر ماشین،

It's not a happy thought,

فکرش هم خوشایند نیست،

but your kids could get mixed up in gangs

ممکنه بچه هاتون تو گروه های تبهکاری برن،

or bad scenes.

یا صحنه های و اتفاقات بد.

Your mom could get cancer,

ممکنه مادرتون سرطان بگیره،

your dad could get mean.

یا پدرتون فوت کنه،

And there are times in life

و لحظاتی در زندگی هست که،

when you will be tossed in the well, too,

در لبه چاه قرار می گیرید،

with twists in your stomach and with holes in your heart,

با درد در جسم و روح،

and when that bad news washes over you,

and when that pain sponges and soaks in,

I just really hope you feel

like you've always got two choices.

One, you can swirl and twirl

and gloom and doom forever,

or two, you can grieve

and then face the future

Having a great attitude is about choosing option number two,

I love the way that they see the world,

because they're seeing the world

for the first time.

Having a sense of awareness

داشتن حس آگاهی

is just about embracing your inner three year-old.

یعنی آغوش کشیدن کودک درون سه ساله خود،

Because you all used to be three years old.

چون همه شما قبلا سه ساله بودید.

That three-year-old boy is still part of you.

پسر سه ساله هنوز بخشی از شماست.

That three-year-old girl is still part of you.

They're in there.

And being aware is just about remembering

that you saw everything you've seen

for the first time once, too.

So there was a time when it was your first time ever

The last "A" is Authenticity.

And for this one, I want to tell you a quick story.

Let's go all the way back to 1932

when, on a peanut farm in Georgia,

a little baby boy named Roosevelt Grier was born.

Roosevelt Grier, or Rosey Grier, as people used to call him,

grew up and grew into

And so what I love about this story

is that Rosey Grier

is just such an authentic person,

and that's what authenticity is all about.

It's just about being you and being cool with that.

And I think when you're authentic,

you end up following your heart,

and you put yourself in places

and situations and in conversations

that you love and that you enjoy.

You meet people that you like talking to.

You go places you've dreamt about.

And you end you end up following your heart

So those are the three A's.

For the closing thought, I want to take you all the way back

to my parents coming to Canada.

I don't know what it would feel like

coming to a new country when you're in your mid-20s.

but I would imagine that it would take a great attitude.

When I was growing up, my dad used to love telling the story

And it's a great story, because what happened was

که فکر کنم یکی داره تو این اتاق میدوه،

And this non-profit group had a big welcoming lunch

و این گروه غیر انتفاعی یک ناهار مفصل،

for all the new immigrants to Canada.

برای تمام مهاجران جدید به کانادا می دادند.

And my dad says he got off the plane and he went to this lunch

پدرم گفت از هواپیا پیدا شده و رفت سر ناهار،

and there was this huge spread.

و یک سفره بزرگ پهن شده بود.

There was bread, there was those little, mini dill pickles,

کلی نون و خوردنی های دیگه بود،

there was olives, those little white onions.

زیتون بود و پیازهای کوچک،

There was rolled up turkey cold cuts,

حلقه های بریده شده گوشت بوقلمون بود،

rolled up ham cold cuts, rolled up roast beef cold cuts

همبرگر و گوشتهای ساندویچی شده،

and little cubes of cheese.

و تکه های کوچک پنیر.

There was tuna salad sandwiches and egg salad sandwiches

ساندویچهای تخم مرغ و تن ماهی بود.

and salmon salad sandwiches.

و ساندویچ ماهی آزاد.

There was lasagna, there was casseroles,

لازانیا بود، کاسارلو بود،

there was brownies, there was butter tarts,

کیک بود و تارت های کره،

and there was pies, lots and lots of pies.

یک عالمه کلوچه بود،

And when my dad tells the story, he says,

وقتی پدرم این ها رو می گفت، گفت که

"The craziest thing was, I'd never seen any of that before, except bread.

نکته جالبش این بود که تا اون موقع بجز نون چنین چیزای ندیده بود،

(Laughter)

I didn't know what was meat, what was vegetarian.

نمی دونستم گوشت و سبزیجات چیه،

I was eating olives with pie.

زیتون رو با کلوچه خوردم.

I just couldn't believe how many things you can get here."

باورم نمی شد اینهمه خوردنی اونجاست.

(Laughter)

When I was five years old,

وقتی پنج سالم بود،

my dad used to take me grocery shopping,

پدرم منو برای خرید می برد بیرون،

and he would stare in wonder

و با تعجب به،

at the little stickers that are on the fruits and vegetables.

به برچسبهای روی میوه ها و سبزیجات نگاه می کرد.

He would say, "Look, can you believe they have a mango here from Mexico?

می گفت نگاه کن باورت میشه اینجا مانگوی مکزیکی باشه؟

They've got an apple here from South Africa.

سیب افریقای جنوبی دارن.

Can you believe they've got a date from Morocco?"

باورت میشه خرمای مراکشی اینجا باشه؟

He's like, "Do you know where Morocco even is?"

می گفت میدونی اصلا مراکش کجاست؟

And I'd say, "I'm five. I don't even know where I am.

می گفتم من پنج سالمه اصلا نمی دونم کجا هستم.

Is this A&P?"

این چیه؟

And he'd say, "I don't know where Morocco is either, but let's find out."

پدرم می گفت منم نمی دونم مراکش کجاست اما بریم پیداش کنیم.

And so we'd buy the date, and we'd go home.

و خرما رو می خریدیم و بر میگشتیم خونه،

And we'd actually take an atlas off the shelf,

و یک نقشه از مغازه بر می داشتیم،

and we'd flip through until we found this mysterious country.

و اینقدر توش غرق می شدیم تا راز رو پیدا می کردیم،

And when we did, my dad would say,

بعدش پدر می گفت،

"Can you believe someone climbed a tree over there,

باورت میشه اونجا یکی بره بالای درخت،

picked this thing off it, put it in a truck,

اینا رو بکنه و بذاره تو کامیون،

drove it all the way to the docks

بعد بره بندر،

and then sailed it all the way

و با کشتی

across the Atlantic Ocean

تو اقیانوس اتلانتیک،

and then put it in another truck

بیاره بذاره تو یه کامیون دیگه،

and drove that all the way to a tiny grocery store just outside our house,

و اینهمه راه بیاد تا برسه به بقالی نزدیک خونه ما،

so they could sell it to us for 25 cents?"

و فقط اونو 25 سنت بفروشن؟

And I'd say, "I don't believe that."

من گفتم باورم نمیشه.

And he's like, "I don't believe it either.

پدرم می گفت منم باورن نمیشه.

Things are amazing. There's just so many things to be happy about."

همه چیز جالب بود و همه چیز شاد بودند.

When I stop to think about it, he's absolutely right.

وقتی در موردش صحبت می کردم پدرمم کاملا موافق بود.

There are so many things to be happy about.

خیلی چیزهای شادی بخش وجود داشت.

We are the only species

ما تنها موجوداتی هستیم،

on the only life-giving rock

تنها موجود زندگی بخش،

in the entire universe that we've ever seen,

در کل جهانی که دیده ایم،

capable of experiencing

که قادر به تجربه

so many of these things.

این چیزهاست.

I mean, we're the only ones with architecture and agriculture.

یعنی ما فقط می تونیم کشاورز و آرشیتکت باشیم.

We're the only ones with jewelry and democracy.

ما تنها موجوداتی هستیم که جواهرات و دموکراسی داریم،

We've got airplanes, highway lanes,

ما هواپیما و اتوبان داریم،

interior design and horoscope signs.

دکوراسیون داخلی و علائم زیج داریم،

We've got fashion magazines, house party scenes.

ما مجله های مد و پارتی های خونگی داریم،

You can watch a horror movie with monsters.

می تونید فیلم ترسناک ببینید،

You can go to a concert and hear guitars jamming.

می تونید کنسرت برید و گیتار گوش بدید،

We've got books, buffets and radio waves,

ما کتاب، بوفه و رادیو داریم،

wedding brides and rollercoaster rides.

عروس و رولرکاستر سواری داریم،

You can sleep in clean sheets.

می تونید تو پتوی نرم بخوابید.

You can go to the movies and get good seats.

می تونید سینما برید و جای خوب بشینید.

You can smell bakery air, walk around with rain hair,

می تونید بوی نونوایی حس کنید و با موهای بارون خورده باشید،

pop bubble wrap or take an illegal nap.

یه حباب پارچه ای یا یک چرت غیرقانونی.

We've got all that,

ما همه اینارو داریم،

but we've only got 100 years to enjoy it.

فقط 100 ساله که داریم ازشون لذت می بریم.

And that's the sad part.

و این بخشه غم انگیزشه.

The cashiers at your grocery store,

صندوق دارهای بقالی،

the foreman at your plant,

سرکارگر کارخانه,

the guy tailgating you home on the highway,

فردی که پشت سر شما تو بزرگراه تا دمه خونه میاد،

the telemarketer calling you during dinner,

بازاریاب تلفنی که هنگام خوردن ناهار بهتون زنگ میزنه،

every teacher you've ever had,

معلم هایی که داشتید،

everyone that's ever woken up beside you,

هرکسی که کنار شما بوده،

every politician in every country,

سیاستمدار در هر کشوری،

every actor in every movie,

هنرپیشه هر فیلمی،

every single person in your family, everyone you love,

هر عضور خانواده شما، هرکسی رو که دوست دارید،

everyone in this room and you

همه تو این اتاق،

will be dead in a hundred years.

تا 100 سال دیگه خواهند مرد.

Life is so great that we only get such a short time

زندگی اینقدر باشکوهه که با وقت کمی که داریم

to experience and enjoy

تجربه کنیم و لذت ببریم

all those tiny little moments that make it so sweet.

از تمام اون لحظات کوچکی که شیرین هستند.

And that moment is right now,

و اون لحظه همین الان هست،

and those moments are counting down,

و اون لحظات تو شمارش معکوش هستند،

and those moments are always, always, always fleeting.

و اون لحظات همواره به سرعت می گذرند.

You will never be as young as you are right now.

به جوانی اینی که هستید نخواهید بود،

And that's why I believe that if you live your life

و عقیده دارم که اگر

with a great attitude,

با نگرش بزرگ زندگی کنید،

choosing to move forward and move on

پیشرفت کنید و ادامه بدید،

whenever life deals you a blow,

هر وقت زندگی به شما ضربه بزند،

living with a sense of awareness of the world around you,

زندگی با حس اگاهی از دنیای اطرافتون،

embracing your inner three year-old

با اغوش کشیدن کودک درون سه ساله تون،

and seeing the tiny joys that make life so sweet

و دیدن شادی های کوچی که زندگی را شیرین می کنند،

and being authentic to yourself,

و صادق بودن با خودتون،

being you and being cool with that,

خودتون باشید و راحت،

letting your heart lead you and putting yourself in experiences that satisfy you,

بگذارید قلبتان شما را هدایت کند و به شما تجربه ای بدهد که از ان لذت می برید،

then I think you'll live a life

اونوقت فکر می کنم که دارید زندگی می کنید

that is rich and is satisfying,

زندگی که رضایت بخش است،

and I think you'll live a life that is truly awesome.

و دارید معرکه زندگی می کنید.
