And I have a dream.

I have a dream that we can stop thinking

that the future will be a nightmare,

and this is going to be a challenge,

because, if you think

nearly all of its visions for humanity

are apocalyptic.

I think this film

is one of the hardest watches of modern times, "The Road."

هو واحد من اصعب الافلام مشاهدةً في عصرنا هذا فلم " الطريق "

It's a beautiful piece of filmmaking,

انه فلمٌ رائع

but everything is desolate,

لأن كل شيء فيه مدمر

everything is dead.

وكل شيء فيه قد لاقى حتفه

And just a father and son

ولم يبقى من الحياة سوى أب و إبنه

trying to survive, walking along the road.

يحاولون النجاة بأنفسهم .. ويسيرون على طول طريق

And I think the environmental movement

واعتقد ان الحركات البيئية

of which I am a part of

والتي انا جزء منها

has been complicit

كانت تغذي

in creating this vision of the future.

For too long,

we have peddled a nightmarish vision

of what's going to happen.

We have focused on the worst-case scenario.

We have focused on the problems.

And we have not thought enough

about the solutions.

We've used fear, if you like,

to grab people's attention.

And any psychologist will tell you

that fear in the organism

is linked to flight mechanism.

It's part of the fight and flight mechanism,

that when an animal is frightened --

think of a deer.

A deer freezes very, very still,

poised to run away.

متأهباً للفرار

And I think that's what we're doing

وهذا ما اعتقد اننا نفعله هنا

when we're asking people to engage with our agenda

فنحن نطلب من الناس المشاركة في مشاريعنا

around environmental degradation and climate change.

التي تخص الاستنزاف البيئي والتغير المناخي

People are freezing and running away

فيتسمر الناس خوفاً .. ومن ثم يهرولون هرباً

because we're using fear.

وسبب هذا اننا نستخدم الخوف

And I think the environmental movement has to grow up

واعتقد ان على المنظمات البيئية ان تغير تفكيرها

and start to think about

وان تبدأ بالتفكير

what progress is.

عن ماهية التقدم

What would it be like to be improving the human lot?

وماهي الاشياء التي تدفع لتطوير الانسان ورقيه ؟

And one of the problems that we face, I think,

واعتقد ان واحدة من المشكلات التي تواجهنا

is that the only people that have cornered the market

هي ان الناس تقيس مدى تقدم وتطور البلد

in terms of progress

بمدى نجاح سوقه الاقتصادي .. فالتقدم

is a financial definition of what progress is,

هو مفهوم اقتصادي في الاساس ...

an economic definition of what progress is --

والاقتصاديون يعون ان التقدم

that somehow,

هو بصورة ما

if we get the right numbers to go up,

دفع الارقام والمؤشرات للصعود

we're going to be better off,

وما ان نفعل ذلك فنحن على الطريق الصحيح

whether that's on the stock market,

سواء كانت تلك الارقام في سوق الاسهم

whether that's with GDP

او سواء كانت تعني مؤشر الناتج المحلي للبلد

and economic growth,

او النمو الاقتصادي

that somehow life is going to get better.

ونظن ان ارتفاع تلك .. يعني حياة افضل

This is somehow appealing to human greed

ولكن هذا لا يعبر الا عن امرٍ واحد فحسب .. هو الجشع الانساني

instead of fear --

بدلا من الخوف !

that more is better.

كلما ملكت أكثر كلما كنت أفضل !

Come on. In the Western world, we have enough.

بربكم أهذا منطق ! .. في العالم الغربي نحن نملك كفايتنا ..

Maybe some parts of the world don't, but we have enough.

صحيح ان هنالك دول لا تملك كفايتها من " الماديات " ولكننا كذلك

And we've know for a long time that this is not a good measure

ونحن نعي تماما ان الامتلاك ليس مؤشراً على ان الدول

of the welfare of nations.

تعيش برخاء

In fact, the architect of our national accounting system,

كما ان مهندس نظامنا الاقتصادي

Simon Kuznets, in the 1930s,

سيمون كوزانتيس في عام 1930

said that, "A nation's welfare

قال " ان رخاء اي دولة

can scarcely be inferred from their national income."

نادراً ما يُقاس بإقتصادها المحلي "

But we've created a national accounting system

ولكننا صنعنا نظام اقتصادي

which is firmly based on production

قائم على الانتاج

and producing stuff.

انتاج الحاجيات بكثرة .. والاستهلاك

And indeed, this is probably historical, and it had its time.

وحتماً كان هذا تحول تاريخي حينها

In the second World War, we needed to produce a lot of stuff.

بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية .. حيث كان يتوجب علينا انتاج كماً هائلاً من المواد

And indeed, we were so successful at producing certain types of stuff

وكما اننا حتماً أفلحنا جداً في صناعة مواد

that we destroyed a lot of Europe, and we had to rebuild it afterwards.

دمرت معظم قارة أوروبا .. ومن ثم إعادة بناءها مرة أخرى

And so our national accounting system

وتبعاً لهذا أصبح نظامنا الاقتصادي يقيس

became fixated on what we can produce.

نجاحه بما يمكنه انتاجه

But as early as 1968,

this visionary man, Robert Kennedy,

at the start of his ill-fated presidential campaign,

gave the most eloquent deconstruction

of gross national product

that ever has been.

And he finished his talk with the phrase,

that, "The gross national product

measures everything except that

which makes life worthwhile."

How crazy is that? That our measure of progress,

كم جنونيٌ هذا الامر .. ان مقياسنا للنجاح

our dominant measure of progress in society,

المقياس الرئيسي لنجاح اي مجتمع

is measuring everything

يمكنه ان يقيس كل شيء

except that which makes life worthwhile?

باستثناء مالذي يجعل الحياة جديرة بالاهتمام ؟

I believe, if Kennedy was alive today,

اعتقد .. ان كان كيندي على قيد الحياة اليوم

he would be asking statisticians such as myself

فسوف يطلب من الاحصائيين .. مثلي

to go out and find out

ان يذهبوا لكي يكتشفوا

what makes life worthwhile.

مالذي يجعل الحياة جديرة بالاهتمام

He'd be asking us to redesign

وسوف يطلب لاحقا تبعا للمعلومات التي سنحضرها له

our national accounting system

اعادة تصميم النظام الاقتصادي

to be based upon

لكي يرتكز على امور هامة

such important things as social justice,

مثل العدالة الاجتماعية

sustainability

والاستدامة

and people's well-being.

والرفاهية

And actually, social scientists have already gone out

وفي الحقيقة ان علماء الاجتماع قد جالوا العالم

and asked these questions around the world.

لكي يطرحوا الاسئلة على سكان الارض

This is from a global survey.

وقد كان السؤال الاساسي في هذا الاستفتاء العالمي

It's asking people, what do they want.

مالذي يريده الناس من هذه الحياة ؟

And unsurprisingly, people all around the world

وقد كانت اجابة معظم سكان المعمورة

say that what they want

ان الشيء الوحيد الذي يريدونه

is happiness, for themselves,

هو السعادة .. لهم ..

for their families, their children,

لعائلاتهم .. ولاطفالهم

their communities.

ولمجتمعهم

Okay, they think money is slightly important.

صحيح ان المال مهم

It's there, but it's not nearly as important as happiness,

ولكنه ليس على نفس درجة الاهمية بالمقارنة مع السعادة !

and it's not nearly as important as love.

وأهميته لا تقترب قيد انملة من أهمية الحب

We all need to love and be loved in life.

فنحن جميعاً نحتاج ان نُحبَ .. وأن نُحَب

It's not nearly as important as health.

والمال ليس مهماً بقدر الصحة الجيدة

We want to be healthy and live a full life.

فجميعنا يريد عمراً مديداً وصحة جيدة

These seem to be natural human aspirations.

وهذه الامور هي المطالب البشرية

Why are statisticians not measuring these?

والسؤال لماذا لا يقوم الاحصائيون بقياس هذه الامور ؟

Why are we not thinking of the progress of nations in these terms,

لماذا لا نقيس تقدم الدول على هذه المعاير ؟

instead of just how much stuff we have?

بدلا من قياسها على ما تملكه من ممتلكات ؟

And really, this is what I've done with my adult life --

وفي الحقيقة هذا ما قضيت عمري لاجله

is think about how do we measure happiness,

محاولاً الخروج بطريقة لقياس السعادة

how do we measure well-being,

وكيفية قياس الرفاهية

how can we do that within environmental limits.

وكيف يمكننا ان نقوم بذلك ضمن الحدود التي تتحملها البيئة

And we created, at the organization that I work for,

لذا قمنا بإنشاء منظمة .. تلك التي اعمل لديها

the New Economics Foundation,

تدعى " منظمة الاقتصاديات الجديدة "

something we call the Happy Planet Index,

وقمنا بتصميم ما يدعى " مؤشر الكوكب السعيد "

because we think people should be happy and the planet should be happy.

لاننا نظن ان سعادة الناس من سعادة الكوكب الذي يحتضنهم

Why don't we create a measure of progress that shows that?

وقلنا لا بدو ان نصنع مؤشراً يقيس تلك الامور

And what we do,

والذي قمنا به هو ..

is we say that the ultimate outcome of a nation

اولا افترضنا ان عوائد الدول المرتفعة

is how successful is it

هي مؤشر عن نجاح الدول

at creating happy and healthy lives for its citizens.

في تأمين السعادة والصحة الجيدة لمواطنيها

That should be the goal

والعوائد المرتفعة يجب ان تكون هدف

of every nation on the planet.

كل دولة على هذا الكوكب

But we have to remember

ولكن علينا ان نتذكر

that there's a fundamental input to that,

ان هنالك مُدخلاً هاماً في هذه المعادلة

and that is how many of the planet's resources we use.

وهو " مدى استنزاف هذه الدولة للموارد الطبيعية "

We all have one planet. We all have to share it.

لاننا جميعاً نقطن على كوكب واحد .. ونتشاركه فيما بيننا

It is the ultimate scarce resource,

وهو المورد الوحيد الذي نملكه

the one planet that we share.

وهو الكوكب الوحيد الذي نتشاركه

And economics is very interested in scarcity.

والاقتصاديون يهتمون جدا بالنُدرة

When it has a scarce resource

لانه عندما يوجد مورد معرض للاستنزاف

that it wants to turn into

ويجب استخدامه بصورة

a desirable outcome,

تعود على مستثمره بعائد ملائم

it thinks in terms of efficiency.

يفكر الاقتصاديون بشيء يدعى الكفاءة أو الفعالية " الجدوى الاقتصادية "

It thinks in terms of how much bang do we get for our buck.

انه المفهوم الذي يدرس العوائد تبعاً للمصاريف

And this is a measure of how much well-being

وهذا هو المؤشر الذي نريد ان نعتمده في قياس الرخاء

we get for our planetary resource use.

اي كم هو استنزافنا للموارد تبعاً للعوائد

It is an efficiency measure.

فهو مقياس كفاءة .. وحسن أداء

And probably the easiest way to show you that,

is to show you this graph.

Running horizontally along the graph,

ان الخط الافقي في الرسم البياني

is "ecological footprint,"

ندعوه " الأثار الايكولوجية "

which is a measure of how much resources we use

وهو معني بقياس مدى استنزاف الموارد

and how much pressure we put on the planet.

ومدى استهلاكنا للكوكب من حولنا

More is bad.

كلما سرت نحو اليمين .. كلما عنى استنزاف موارد اكثر

Running vertically upwards,

اما بالنسبة لأعلى المحور الرأسي

is a measure called "happy life years."

فهو ما ندعوه " مؤشر السنوات السعيدة "

It's about the well-being of nations.

انه يعبر عن رفاهية الدول

It's like a happiness adjusted life-expectancy.

انه يشبه مؤشر العمر المتوقع للفرد .. ولكن هنا العمر السعيد

It's like quality and quantity of life in nations.

انه يعني جودة السنوات في الكم الذي يعيشه الفرد في الدول

And the yellow dot there you see, is the global average.

والنقطة الصفراء على المخطط هي المتوسط العالمي

Now, there's a huge array of nations

وكما تلاحظون يوجد طيف واسع من الدول ...

around that global average.

To the top right of the graph,

في أعلى اليمين

are countries which are doing reasonably well and producing well-being,

but they're using a lot of planet to get there.

They are the U.S.A.,

وهذه الدول هي الولايات المتحدة الامريكية

other Western countries going across in those triangles

والدول الغربية الاخرى .. والتي يعبر عنها بهذه المثلثات الواضحة على الشاشة

and a few Gulf states in there actually.

ويوجد في الحقيقة بعضٌ من دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي

Conversely, at the bottom left of the graph,

وعلى النقيض من هذا وبالنظر الى اسفل يسار المنحى

are countries that are not producing much well-being --

نجد الدول التي لا تقدم رفاهية لمواطنيها

typically, sub-Saharan Africa.

وهي تحديدا دول شبه الصحراء الافريقية

In Hobbesian terms,

بحسب تسمية " هوبيسيان "

life is short and brutish there.

فالحياة هناك قصيرة وقاسية

The average life expectancy in many of these countries

والعمر المتوقع للفرد في تلك الدول

is only 40 years.

هو 40 عاماً فقط

Malaria, HIV/AIDS

بسبب ان الملاريا .. والإيدز

are killing a lot of people

تقتل الناس

in these regions of the world.

في تلك الدول بكثرة

But now for the good news!

ولكن لننظر الى الجانب المشرق

There are some countries up there, yellow triangles,

هنالك دولٌ في اعلى المخطط البياني .. تلك المثلثات الصفراء

that are doing better than global average,

انها تقوم بأداء جيد أكثر من المتوسط العالمي

that are heading up towards the top left of the graph.

وهناك دولة تقبع على أعلى الهرم

This is an aspirational graph.

انها الدولة الطموحة في هذا المخطط البياني

We want to be top left, where good lives don't cost the earth.

فنحن جميعاً نريد ان نكون في أعلى المخطط .. وعلى يمينه .. لكي نكون سعداء دون ان نكلف الارض كثيراً

They're Latin American.

انها الدول اللاتينية ..

The country on its own up at the top

والدولة التي تعتلي الهرم

is a place I haven't been to.

هي دولة لم ازرها من ذي قبل

Maybe some of you have.

وربما بعضكم قد زارها

Costa Rica.

انها كوستاريكا

Costa Rica --

كوستاريكا

average life expectancy is 78-and-a-half years.

ان معدل عمر الفرد المتوقع فيها 78.5 عام

That is longer than in the USA.

أي اكثر من الولايات المتحدة الامريكية

They are, according to the latest Gallup world poll,

وهم وتبعاً لاستبيان مؤسسة غالوب

the happiest nation on the planet --

الدولة الاكثر سعادة على كوكب الارض

than anybody; more than Switzerland and Denmark.

اكثر من سويسرا .. وحتى الدنمارك

They are the happiest place.

انها المكان الاسعد على الاطلاق

They are doing that

وهم سعيدون

on a quarter of the resources

باستهلاك ربع ما تستهلكه

that are used typically in [the] Western world --

الدول في العالم الغربي

a quarter of the resources.

ربعه فحسب

What's going on there?

مالذي يجري هناك ؟

What's happening in Costa Rica?

مالذي يجري في كوستاريكا ؟

We can look at some of the data.

يمكننا ان ننظر الى بعض المعلومات التي لدينا ..

99 percent of their electricity comes from renewable resources.

بدايةً 99% من الطاقة الكهربائية تأتي من مصادر متجددة

Their government is one of the first to commit

والحكومة عهدت بنفسها كأن تكون

to be carbon neutral by 2021.

اول دولة حيادية في انبعاث الكربون في عام 2021

They abolished the army

كما ان كوستاريكا كان قد أحلت جيشها

in 1949 --

عام 1949

And they invested in social programs --

وقد استثمروا في البرامج الاجتماعية

health and education.

They have one of the highest literacy rates in Latin America

حيث لديها اعلى مستوى تعليم في امريكا اللاتينية

and in the world.

And they have that Latin vibe, don't they.

ولديهم فرقة " فايب اللاتينية " أليس كذلك !

They have the social connectedness.

ويملكون ترابطاً اجتماعياً قوياً

(Laughter)

The challenge is, that possibly -- and the thing we might have to think about --

ان التحدي .. اقصد الامكانية .. التي يمكن الوصول اليها

is that the future

في المستقبل

might not be North American,

ربما لن تكون في امريكا الشمالية

might not be Western European.

ولا في دول أوربا الغربية

It might be Latin American.

بل في امريكا اللاتينية

And the challenge, really,

والتحدي هو فعلاً

is to pull the global average up here.

هو رفع المتوسط العالمي الى الاعلى هنا ..

That's what we need to do.

والذي نريد القيام به

And if we're going to do that,

هو ان نقوم

we need to pull countries from the bottom,

بسحب هذه الدول من القاع الى الاعلى

and we need to pull countries from the right of the graph.

وان نسحب الدول المستنزفة بشدة من اليمين الى اليسار

And then we're starting to create a happy planet.

لكي نستطيع صناعة كوكب سعيد

That's one way of looking at it.

فهذه هي الطريقة الوحيدة لذلك - اعادة توضع الدول على المخطط -

Another way of looking at it is looking at time trends.

وبالنظر الى مناحي زمنية أخرى

We don't have good data going back for every country in the world,

والتي لا نملك الكثير منها لكل الدول حول العالم

but for some of the richest countries, the OECD group, we do.

ولكن فحسب لبعض الدول الغنية و دول منظمة التعاون والتنمية

And this is the trend in well-being over that time,

a small increase,

but this is the trend in ecological footprint.

And so in strict happy-planet methodology,

we've become less efficient

at turning our ultimate scarce resource

into the outcome we want to.

And the point really is, is that I think,

probably everybody in this room

والذي يريدها معظم من في هذه القاعة على ما اظن

would like society to get to 2050

هي ان نصل بالمجتمع الى عام 2050

without an apocalyptic

دون حدوث اي أمرٍ

something happening.

مآساوي

It's actually not very long away.

وفي الحقيقة 2050 ليس بعيداً

It's half a human lifetime away.

انه في نطاق أعمارنا

A child entering school today

فالطفل الذي سيدخل المدرسة اليوم

will be my age in 2050.

سوف يكون في عمري عام 2050

This is not the very distant future.

انه ليس مستقبل بعيد

This is what the U.K. government target

وكما يوضح الشكل البياني .. هذا هو هدف المملكة المتحدة

on carbon and greenhouse emissions looks like.

فيما يتعلق في انبعاثات غازات الكربون والدفيئة

And I put it to you, that is not business as usual.

واخبركم .. ان هذا ليس تصرفٌ اقتصادي اعتيادي على الاطلاق

That is changing our business.

فهذا سوف يغير الاقتصاد ككل

That is changing the way we create our organizations,

وسوف يغير الطريقة التي نُنشىء بها المؤسسات الاقتصادية

we do our government policy and we live our lives.

وكيف سنحدد السياسات الحكومية .. وكيف سنعيش حياتنا

And the point is,

والفكرة هي

we need to carry on increasing well-being.

ان نستمر في رفع رفاهية الافراد

No one can go to the polls

لان احداً لن يصوت لك في الانتخابات

and say that quality of life is going to reduce.

ان قلت انك سوف تقلل منها - الرفاهية -

None of us, I think,

ولا احد منا على ما اعتقد

want human progress to stop.

يريد ان يتوقف النمو والتطور البشري

I think we want it to carry on.

فاعتقد ان جميعنا يرغب في استمرار ذلك

I think we want the lot of humanity to keep on increasing.

كما اننا نرغب برفع السوية البشرية

And I think this is where climate change skeptics and deniers come in.

وهنا يأتي دور المشككين بمشكلة الاحتباس الحراري والتغير المناخي

I think this is what they want. They want quality of life to keep increasing.

لاني اعتقد انهم يرغبون فحسب برفع جودة ورفاهية الحياة

They want to hold on to what they've got.

لذا يجب عليهم التوقف عند هذا الحد

And if we're going to engage them,

وحتى ان اضطررنا الى مواجهتهم فيما يخص ذلك

I think that's what we've got to do.

فسنقوم بذلك .. لانه واجب علينا

And that means we have to really increase efficiency even more.

اعني انه يجب فعلا رفع كفاءة استنزاف الموارد الطبيعية

Now that's all very easy to draw graphs and things like that,

but the point is we need to turn those curves.

And this is where I think we can take a leaf

out of systems theory, systems engineers,

where they create feedback loops,

put the right information at the right point of time.

Human beings are very motivated by the "now."

You put a smart meter in your home,

فعلى سبيل المثال ان وضعت مقياس

and you see how much electricity you're using right now,

how much it's costing you,

your kids go around and turn the lights off pretty quickly.

What would that look like for society?

Why is it, on the radio news every evening,

I hear the FTSE 100, the Dow Jones, the dollar pound ratio --

ارقام مرشرات داو جونز و الفاينيشل تايمز ونسبة الدولار الى الجنيه الاسترليني

I don't even know which way the dollar pound ratio should go to be good news.

في الحقيقة انا لا اعلم ما هو الامر الجيد بالنسبة لي اتحسن الدولار مقابل الجنيه ام العكس !

And why do I hear that?

فلماذا اسمع كل هذا كل يوم

Why don't I hear how much energy Britain used yesterday,

لماذا لا اسمع كم مقدار الطاقة التي استخدمته بريطانيا اليوم

or American used yesterday?

او الولايات المتحدة البارحة

Did we meet our three percent annual target

هل نحن على الطريق الصحيح في خفض انبعاثات الكربون

on reducing carbon emissions?

3% كل عام بحسب خطتنا ؟

That's how you create a collective goal.

ان هذا التصرف له تبعات تراكمية

You put it out there into the media and start thinking about it.

فما ان نضع تلك المعلومات في الاعلام حتى يفكر الناس فيها

And we need positive feedback loops

ونحن نحتاج لحلقات تجميع معلومات ايجابية

for increasing well-being

لكي نرفع مستوى الرفاهية

At a government level, they might create national accounts of well-being.

اما على مستوى الحكومات فربما يتوجب عليها تأسيس حسابات وطنية للرفاهية

At a business level, you might look at the well-being of your employees,

وعلى مستوى الشركات فعليها ان تبحث عن رفاهية موظفيها

which we know is really linked to creativity,

والتي هي مرتبطة مباشرة بالابداع

which is linked to innovation,

والابتكار

and we're going to need a lot of innovation to deal with those environmental issues.

ونحن اليوم نحتاج الكثير من الابتكار لكي نتعامل مع المشاكل البيئية

At a personal level, we need these nudges too.

اما على المستوى الشخصي فنحن نحتاج تلك " الوخزات "

Maybe we don't quite need the data, but we need reminders.

صحيح انه ربما لانحتاج كل هذا الكم الهائل من المعلومات التقنية .. ولكن نحن نحتاج حتماً للتذكير بماهية هذه المشاكل

In the U.K., we have a strong public health message

وفي المملكة المتحدة .. لدينا برنامج صحي قوي ينص على نشر رسالة مفادها

on five fruit and vegetables a day

عليك بأكل 5 فواكه يوميا .. ونوعٌ من الخضار

and how much exercise we should do -- never my best thing.

بالاضافة الى ممارسة الرياضة والتمارين - وانا لست جيداً بذلك فيما يخص التمارين -

What are these for happiness?

ولكن ماهي الامور المشابهة لتلك .. عندما يخص الامر السعادة

What are the five things that you should do every day

ماهي الامور الخمس التي يجب القيام بها كل يوم

to be happier?

لكي يصبح الانسان اكثر سعادة؟

We did a project for the Government Office of Science a couple of years ago,

ان مكتب حكومياً للعلوم قام منذ سنتين

a big program called the Foresight program --

بمشروع هائل أسماه " مشروع البصيرة "

lots and lots of people -- involved lots of experts --

حيث قام بإستبيان الكثير والكثير من الافراد والخبراء

everything evidence based -- a huge tome.

و وثق كل شيء بكميات كبيرة جداً

But a piece of work we did was on: what five positive actions can you do

وكان واحد من اسئلة ذلك المشروع هو .. ما هي الخمس اشياء التي يمكن

to improve well-being in your life?

القيام بها لكي نحسن رفاهية الفرد ؟

And the point of these is

والفكرة ان هذه

they are, not quite, the secrets of happiness,

الاشياء الخمسة ليست سر السعادة تماما

but they are things that I think happiness will flow out the side from.

ولكنها الاشياء التي اعتقد انها ستحفز السعادة وتدفعها للنمو

And the first of these is to connect,

والجواب الاول كان " التواصل "

is that your social relationships

ان علاقاتك الاجتماعية

are the most important cornerstones of your life.

هي اهم شيء في حياتك وهي حجر الزاوية بالنسبة لها

Do you invest the time with your loved ones

فتسائل .. هل تستثمر وقتك مع من تحب

that you could do, and energy?

وهل تستثمر طاقتك مع من تحب ؟

Keep building them.

استمر ببناء العلاقات !

The second one is be active.

الجواب الثاني كان " الفاعلية "

The fastest way out of a bad mood:

ان اسرع شيء يمكنه اخراجك من الجو المكتئب

step outside, go for a walk, turn the radio on and dance.

هو الخروج والقيام بأمر ما .. مثل التنزه او الاستماع الى الراديو والرقص

Being active is great for our positive mood.

ان فاعلية الفرد وحركته لهي الحل الامثل للوصول الى مزاج رائع

The third one is take notice.

الجواب الثالث كان " الوعي "

How aware are you of things going on around the world,

ماهو وعيك للامور التي تجري من حولك في العالم

the seasons changing, people around you?

وما هو وعيك لتغيرات الافراد والمجتمعات من حولك

Do you notice what's bubbling up for you and trying to emerge?

هل تراقب التغيرات التي تحدث من حولك وتندمج فيها ؟

Based on a lot of evidence for mindfulness,

وتبعاً لعدة أدلة للعلاج الذهني

cognitive behavioral therapy,

الاداركي التصرفي

[very] strong for our well being.

فإن ذلك مهمٌ جداً لرفاهية الفرد

The fourth is keep learning

الجواب الرابع كان " تعلم باستمرار "

and keep is important --

والاستمرار به لهو المهم

learning throughout the whole life course.

ان التعلم والبحث عن المعرفة هي سياسة حياة

Older people who keep learning and are curious,

ان كبار السن الذين يستمرون بالتعلم ويعتريهم الفضول دوما

they have much better health outcomes than those who start to close down.

هم الاكثر صحة والاكثر رونقاً من اولئك الذين على عكسهم

But it doesn't have to be formal learning; it's not knowledge based.

ولا اقصد بالتعليم التعليم الاعتيادي .. انه ليس تعليم اكاديمي

It's more curiosity.

بل انه تعليم محفز بالفضول

It can be learning to cook a new dish,

يمكنه ان يكون تعلم إعداد طبق طعام جديد

picking up an instrument you forgot as a child.

او تعلم العزف على اداة موسيقية كنت قد اهملتها في صغرك

Keep learning.

إذا تعلم بإستمرار

And the final one

والجواب الاخير

is that most anti-economic of activities,

ان عكس كل مفهوم تجاري اليوم هو

but give.

" العطاء "

Our generosity, our altruism,

ان السخاء والكرم والايثار

our compassion,

والتعاطف

are all hardwired

جميعها متصلة

to the reward mechanism in our brain.

الى مناطق " الانجاز " في ادمغتنا

We feel good if we give.

حيث انك ما ان تُعطي حتى تشعر بالانجاز كما لو انك " أخذت "

You can do an experiment where you give

ويمكنك التحقق من ذلك باعطاء

two groups of people a hundred dollars in the morning.

مجموعتين من الناس 100 دولار في الصباح

You tell one of them to spend it on themselves

وان تخبر الاولى ان تصرف الاموال على نفسها

and one on other people.

والثانية على الاخرين

You measure their happiness at the end of the day,

ويمكنك قياس سعادة كلا المجموعتين في آخر النهار

those that have gone and spent on other people are much happier

حتماً اولئك الذين قاموا بصرف الاموال على غيرهم .. هم اكثر سعادة

that those that spent it on themselves.

من اولئك الذين صرفوا الاموال على انفسهم

And these five ways,

هذه هي الطرق الخمس

which we put onto these handy postcards,

التي وضعنها على هذه اللوحات التعريفية الجميلة

I would say, don't have to cost the earth.

وانا أُقر انها لا تكلف الارض شيئاً

They don't have any carbon content.

فهي لا تحتوي على مركبات الكربون

They don't need a lot of material goods to be satisfied.

وهي لا تحتاج الكثير من الموارد لكي تُحقق

And so I think it's really quite feasible

واعتقد انه من المنطقي القول

that happiness does not cost the earth.

ان السعادة لا تكلف الارض شيئاً ولاتهدر منها مورداً

Now, Martin Luther King,

لقد ألقى مارتن لوثر كينج

on the eve of his death,

عشية وفاته

gave an incredible speech.

خطاباً رائعاً

He said, "I know there are challenges ahead,

حيث قال " انا اعلم ان هنالك تحديات تواجهني ..

there may be trouble ahead,

وهناك مشاكل ربما ايضاً ..

but I fear no one. I don't care.

ولكني لا أخاف أحداً .. ولا اهتم لشيء

I have been to the mountain top,

لأنني صعدت على قمة الجبل

and I have seen the Promised Land."

ورأيت الارض الموعودة "

Now, he was a preacher,

لقد كان قساً

but I believe the environmental movement

ولكني اعتقد ان الحركات البيئية

and, in fact, the business community, government,

والمجتمعات الاقتصادية .. والحكومات

needs to go to the top of the mountain top,

يتوجب عليها ان تصعد الى قمة الجبل

and it needs to look out,

وان تبحث عن ..

and it needs to see the Promised Land,

الارض الموعودة

or the land of promise,

او ارض الميعاد

and it needs to have a vision

وعليها ان تملك تصوراً

of a world that we all want.

عن مالذي يريده سكان العالم اليوم

And not only that, we need to create a Great Transition

ونحن لا نحتاج فحسب القيام بتغير كبير

to get there,

لكي نصل الى هناك

and we need to pave that great transition with good things.

انما نحتاج لان ندفع ذلك التغير بالطرق الصحيحة والجيدة

Human beings want to be happy.

ان البشر يريدون ان يكونوا سعداء

Pave them with the five ways.

لنساعدهم بالطرق الخمس التي ذكرت

And we need to have signposts

وعلينا ان نصنع معالم

gathering people together and pointing them --

يجمع الناس حولها لكي تخبرهم عن امور

something like the Happy Planet Index.

مثل مؤشر الكوكب السعيد

And then I believe

وانا اعتقد

that we can all create a world we all want,

انه يمكننا صناعة العالم الذي نريده جميعاً

where happiness does not cost the earth.

بحيث لا تكلف سعادتنا كوكب الارض شيئاً
