Saida Aden Said: I still have this horrific image in my mind.

वास्तवमा म धेरै रोएकी थिएँ।

मेरो बाआमालाई चिन्ने मान्छेले मेरो हात समात्यो र भन्यो,

I could see people falling down,

“छिटो जाऔं!छिटो जाऔं!छिटो जाऔं!”

gunshots.

I was so terrified.

र म चाहिँ आमालाई खोज्दैथिएँ, “मेरीआमा ख्वै ? मेरी आमा?”

Really, I was crying a lot.

Someone who knew my father and my mom grabbed my hand, and he said,

"Let's go! Let's go! Let's go!"

बन्दुकको आवाज सुनिन्थ्यो।

And I was like, "Where's my mom? My mom? My mom?"

निर्वाचन हुनेवाला थियो ।

हाम्रा युवाहरु सडकमा थिए।

Noria Dambrine Dusabireme: During nights we would hear shots,

उनीहरू हडताल गरिरहेथे ।

र धेरैजसो युवाहरू मरे (मारिए) ।

we would hear guns.

Elections were supposed to happen.

We had young people going in the street,

they were having strikes.

And most of the young people died.

SAS: We boarded a vehicle.

आमाले मलाई गुमाउनुभो ।

It was overloaded.

म कता छु भनेर वहाँलाई कसैले भनेन्।

People were running for their lives.

एनडिडी: हामी विद्यालय गएनौ।

That is how I fled from Somalia.

बजार जान सक्ने थिएनौं, घरमा नै कैद थियौँ

My mom missed me.

अतः मैले महशुस गरेँ कि यदि कुनै राम्रो विकल्प पाएँ भने

Nobody told her where I went.

NDD: The fact that we did not go to school,

म त्यो अंगिकार गर्ने थिएँ र सुन्दर भविष्य प्राप्त गर्ने थिएँ ।

we couldn't go to the market, we were just stuck home

made me realize that if I got an option to go for something better,

इग्नाजियो माटेइनी: विश्वभरी शरणार्थिको सङ्ख्या

बढ्दै आइरहेको छ।

I could just go for it and have a better future.

have been increasing.

Now there are almost 60 million people displaced in the world.

is starting to realize from research and reality

that we're talking about a much more permanent problem.

SAS: It was almost impossible, as a refugee person,

to further my education and to make my career.

My name is Saida Aden Said,

and I am from Somalia.

I was nine years old when I came to Kakuma,

and I started going to school at 17.

CR: We are serving students across five different countries:

So, the magic of this is that we're addressing refugee lives as they exist.

This degree is competency-based and not time-bound.

that's really resulting in the 95 percent graduation,

NDD: I'm a social media management intern.

It's related to the communications degree I'm doing.

I've learned so many things out of the project and in the real world.

from these vulnerable and refugee communities.

NDD: If I get the degree,

I can just come back and work everywhere that I want.

मसँग आवश्यक मात्रामा आत्मविश्वास र क्षमता छ

I can go for a masters confidently in English,

which is something that I would not have dreamt of before.

And I have the confidence and the skills required

to actually go out and just tackle the workplace

without having to fear that I can't make it.

SAS: I always wanted to work with the community.

म एक यस्तो प्रतिनिधि बन्न चाहन्छु

I want to establish a nonprofit.

We advocate for women's education.

भन्न चाहन्छु कि अझै कुनै बिलम्ब भएको छैन ।

I want to be someone who is, like, an ambassador

and encourage them to learn

and tell them it is never too late.

It's a dream.
