I grew up

ကျွန်မဟာ သေမလောက်ကို

diagnosed as phobically shy,

because when we are treated that way,

And as I started to look at people,

I noticed that some people

Remember, I was young then.

So what did they do?

What we still do perhaps too often.

We talk about ourselves.

And yet there are other people I observed

who had what I called a mutuality mindset.

ကျွန်မအခေါ် ရင့်ကျက်တဲ့စိတ်နေ သဘောထားရှိသူတွေပေါ့။

In each situation, they found a way to talk about us

အခြေအနေတစ်ခုစီမှာ 'ငါတို့" ဆိုတဲ့အကြောင်းကိုပြောဖို့

and create that "us" idea.

So my idea to reimagine the world

is to see it one where we all become

greater opportunity-makers with and for others.

အခွင့်အလမ်းဖန်တီးသူတွေ ဖြစ်လာတဲ့ နေရာတစ်ခုကို ရှုမြင်ဖို့ပါ။

There's no greater opportunity

or call for action for us now

than to become opportunity-makers

who use best talents together more often

for the greater good

and accomplish things we couldn't have done on our own.

And I want to talk to you about that,

because even more than giving,

That's why I'm sitting here.

But I also want to point something else out:

Each one of you

is better than anybody else at something.

That disproves that popular notion

that if you're the smartest person in the room,

you're in the wrong room.

So let me tell you about

a Hollywood party I went to a couple years back,

and I met this up-and-coming actress,

that every new building in Los Angeles

should have public art in it.

and they'd smile in the reflection of it,

and they'd pose and they'd vamp

and they'd take selfies together,

and they'd laugh.

And as she was talking, a thought came to my mind.

I said, "I know someone you ought to meet.

And indeed they were.

They met together. They prepared.

They spoke in front of the Los Angeles City Council.

And the council members not only passed the regulation,

half of them came down and asked to pose with them afterwards.

They were startling, compelling and credible.

You can't buy that.

What I'm asking you to consider

ဆင်ခြင်ကြည့်ဖို့ ကျွန်မမေးနေတာက

is what kind of opportunity- makers we might become,

ကျွန်မတို့တွေဟာ ဘယ်လိုအခွင့်အလမ်း ဖန်တီးသူတွေဖြစ်လာနိုင်မလဲ။

because more than wealth

ကြွယ်ဝမှုတွေ၊ မျက်စိကျစရာ ဂုဏ်ပုဒ်တွေ၊ အဆက်အသွယ်တွေထက်ကို

or fancy titles

တစ်ဦးချင်းစီရဲ့ ပိုကောင်းတဲ့ဖက်ကို

or a lot of contacts, it's our capacity to connect

ဆက်သွယ်ပြီး၊ရုပ်လုံးပေါ်လာအောင် လုပ်ဖို့ဆိုတာက

around each other's better side and bring it out.

ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ စွမ်းဆောင်နိုင်မှုပါ။

And I'm not saying this is easy,

and I'm sure many of you have made the wrong moves too

about who you wanted to connect with,

but what I want to suggest is,

this is an opportunity.

I started thinking about it

Wall Street Journal သတင်းထောက်ဘဝကို

ပြန်စဉ်းစားမိသွားတယ်။

way back when I was a Wall Street Journal reporter

ဥရောပမှာရောက်နေပြီး စီးပွားရေးလား၊

and I was in Europe and I was supposed to cover trends

နိုင်ငံရေးလား၊ ဘဝနေထိုင်မှုလား

and trends that transcended business

ဆိုတဲ့ သတ်မှတ်ချက်တွေကို

or politics or lifestyle.

So I had to have contacts

in different worlds very different than mine,

because otherwise you couldn't spot the trends.

And third, I had to write the story

in a way stepping into the reader's shoes,

so they could see how these trends could affect their lives.

That's what opportunity-makers do.

And here's a strange thing:

Unlike an increasing number of Americans

who are working and living and playing with people

who think exactly like them

because we then become more rigid and extreme,

opportunity-makers are actively seeking situations

with people unlike them,

and they're building relationships,

ဆက်ဆံရေးတွေ တည်ဆောက်နေပါတယ်။

and because they do that,

ဒါကိုလုပ်တဲ့အတွက်

they have trusted relationships

မှန်ကန်တဲ့အသင်းကိုပါဝင်နိုင်ပြီး၊

where they can bring the right team in

ပြဿနာတစ်ခုကို ပိုကောင်း၊ ပိုမြန်တဲ့

and recruit them to solve a problem better and faster

and seize more opportunities.

They're not affronted by differences,

they're fascinated by them,

and that is a huge shift in mindset,

and once you feel it, you want it to happen a lot more.

This world is calling out for us to have a collective mindset,

ဒီကမ္ဘာကြီးက ကျွန်မတို့အတွက်

စုပေါင်းစိတ်သဘောထား တစ်ခုကို ဆင့်ခေါ်နေတယ်လေ။

and I believe in doing that.

ဒီလိုလုပ်တာကို ကျွန်မယုံကြည်တယ်။

It's especially important now.

Why is it important now?

ဘာကြောင့် အခုအရေးကြီးရတာလဲ။

Because things can be devised like drones

မူယစ်ဆေးဝါးတွေနဲ့ အချက်အလက် စုစောင်းမှုတွေလိုပဲ

and drugs and data collection,

ကိစ္စရပ်တွေက ဖန်တီးနိုင်လို့ပါ။

and they can be devised by more people

ဒါတွေကို လူများများ၊ တန်ဖိုနည်းနည်းနည်းတွေနဲ့ အကျိုးပြုတဲ့

and cheaper ways for beneficial purposes

ရည်ရွယ်ချက်တွေအတွက် ဖန်တီးနိုင်လို့ပါ။

and then, as we know from the news every day,

ပြီးတော့ သတင်းတွေကနေ နေ့စဉ်သိနေသလိုပဲ

they can be used for dangerous ones.

အန္တရာယ်ရှိတဲ့ ကိစ္စတွေအတွက်လည်း သုံးလို့ရသေးတာကိုး။

It calls on us, each of us,

ဒါက ကျွန်မတို့ကို၊ ကျွန်မတို့တစ်ဦးချင်းစီကို ပန်ကြားနေတာက

to a higher calling.

But here's the icing on the cake:

It's not just the first opportunity

that you do with somebody else

that's probably your greatest,

as an institution or an individual.

It's after you've had that experience

and you trust each other.

It's the unexpected things

What I'm suggesting is, when you connect with people

around a shared interest and action,

things happening into the future,

and I think that's what we're looking at.

We open ourselves up to those opportunities,

ဒီအခွင့်အရေးတွေကို ကိုယ့်ဘာသာ

လမ်းပွင့်အောင် လုပ်လိုက်တာပေါ့။

and in this room are key players in technology,

ဒီအခန်းထဲမှာ အဓိကကျသူတွေနဲ့ နည်းပညာပါ။

ဒါကိုလုပ်ဆောင်ဖို့ တမူထူးခြားပြီး

key players who are uniquely positioned to do this,

နေရာကျနေတဲ့ အဓိကကျသူတွေပါ။

to scale systems and projects together.

So here's what I'm calling for you to do.

Remember the three traits of opportunity-makers.

အခွင့်အရေးဖန်တီးသူတွေရဲ့ လက္ခဏာ ၃ရပ်ကို သတိရကြပါ။

Opportunity-makers keep honing their top strength

အခွင့်အရေးဖန်တီးသူတွေဟာ

သူတို့ရဲ့ အမြင့်ဆုံးစွမ်းပကားကို သွေးနေကြပြီး

and they become pattern seekers.

စံနမူနာရှာဖွေသူတွေ ဖြစ်လာကြပါတယ်။

They get involved in different worlds than their worlds

သူတို့လောကထက် မတူညီတဲ့လောကတွေ မှာပါဝင်ကြပါတယ်။

ဒါကြောင့် သူတို့တွေဟာ ယုံကြည်မှုခံရပြီး

so they're trusted and they can see those patterns,

ဒီအဆင်တွေကို တွေ့နိုင်တာပေါ့။

and they communicate to connect

တူညီတဲ့ ဝါသနာတွေရဲ့ ချိုမြိန်တဲ့အပိုင်းမှာ

around sweet spots of shared interest.

တွေ့ထိဖို့ဆက်သွယ်ကြတာပေါ့။

So what I'm asking you is,

ဒီတော့ ကျွန်မမေးနေတာက

the world is hungry.

ကမ္ဘာကြီးက ဆာလောင်နေပါတယ်။

I truly believe, in my firsthand experience,

ကျွန်မတကယ့်ကိုယုံကြည်နေတာက ကိုယ်တိုင်အတွေ့အကြုံအရ

the world is hungry for us

ကမ္ဘာကြီးက ဆာလောင်နေတာက ကျွန်မတို့တွေဟာ

to unite together as opportunity-makers

အခွင့်အလမ်းဖန်တီးသူတွေအဖြစ် စုစည်းကြဖို့၊သင်တို့ထဲက

and to emulate those behaviors

တော်တော်များလုပ်ဖူးတဲ အဲဒီအမူအကျင့်တွေကို

as so many of you already do —

အတုယူဖို့ဆိုတာပါ။

I know that firsthand —

ဒါကို ကျွန်မကိုယ်တွေ့သိတာပါ။

and to reimagine a world

ကျွန်မတို့ တစ်ကိုယ်တော် လုပ်တာထက်

where we use our best talents together

ပိုကြီးကျယ်တဲ့အရာတွေကို ပြီးမြောက်အောင်မြင်ဖို့

more often to accomplish greater things together

မကြာခဏဆိုသလို ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ ပင်ကိုယ်အစွမ်းတွေကို

than we could on our own.
