Imagining a solo cello concert,

one would most likely think of Johann Sebastian Bach

unaccompanied cello suites.

တစ်ကိုယ်တော်တီးတဲ့ Johann Sebastian Bach ပါ။

As a child

ကလေးတစ်ယောက် အနေနဲ့

studying these eternal masterpieces,

ဒီ အဆုံးမဲ့ အပြောင်မြောက်ဆုံး လက်ရာတွေကို လေ့လာရင်း

Bach's music would intermingle

Bach ရဲ့ဂီတဟာ ကျွန်မကြီးပြင်းခဲ့တဲ့

with the singing voices of Muslim prayers

အစ္စရေးက Kibbutz မြောက်ပိုင်း

from the neighboring Arab village

ဘေးပတ်ဝန်းကျင် အာရပ်ရွာက

of the northern Kibbutz in Israel

မွတ်ဆလင် ဆုတောင်းသံတွေနဲ့

where I grew up.

ရောထွေးနေပါလိမ့်မယ်။။

Late at night, after hours of practicing,

ညနှောင်းပိုင်း နာရီများစွာ လေ့ကျင့်အပြီး

I would listen to Janis Joplin and Billie Holiday

Janis Joplin နဲ့ Billie Holiday ကို နားထောင်လေ့ရှိပါတယ်။

as the sounds of tango music

မိဘတွေရဲ့ စတီရီယိုကနေ တန်ဂိုဂီတဟာ

would be creeping from my parents' stereo.

လွင့်ပျံ့လာနေမှာဖြစ်ပြီး

It all became music to me.

ဒါတွေအားလုံးဟာ ကျွန်မအတွက် ဂီတဖြစ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

I didn't hear the boundaries.

အကန့်အသတ် ဘောင်တွေကို ကျွန်မ မကြားတတ်ဘူး။

I still start every day

Bach ကိုတီးခတ် လေ့ကျင့်ရင်း

practicing playing Bach.

နေ့တိုင်း စစ နေတုန်းပါ။

His music never ceases

သူ့ဂီတက ကျွန်မကို အံ့အားသင့်စေကာ အသံရဲ့ လတ်ဆတ်မှုက

to sound fresh and surprising to me.

ဘယ်တော့မှ ရပ်စဲမသွားဘူး။

But as I was moving away

ဒါပေမဲ့ အစဉ်အလာ ဂန္တဝင်ဂီတ

from the traditional classical repertoire

တင်ဆက်မှုကနေ ခွာနေပြီး

and trying to find new ways

ဂီတရသကို နည်းလမ်းသစ်တွေနဲ့

of musical expression,

ထုတ်ဖော်ဖို့ ကြိုးစား ရှာနေခိုက်

I realized that with today's technological resources,

ဒီကနေ့ နည်းပညာဆိုင်ရာ အရင်းအမြစ်တွေနဲ့ဆို

there's no reason to limit

ကြိုးတပ်တူရိယာ တစ်ခုတည်းကနေ တစ်ချိန်တည်း

what can be produced at one time

ကိုယ်ထုတ်လုပ်နိုင်တာအတွက် အကန့်အသတ် မရှိုနုင်တော့တာကို

from a single string instrument.

သဘောပေါက်လာခဲ့တယ်။

The power and coherency

လူတစ်ဦးရဲ့ အသံတွေအားလုံးကို ကြားမိရင်း၊

that comes from one person hearing, perceiving and playing all the voices

လေ့လာရင်း တီးခတ်ရင်းကနေ လာတဲ့ စွမ်းအားနဲ့ အစက်အစပ်ရှိလျက်

makes a very different experience.

အရမ်းထူးခြားတဲ့ အတွေ့အကြုံကို ဖန်တီးပေးပါတယ်။

The excitement of a great orchestra performance

ခမ်းနားတဲ့ သံစုံဝိုင်းတင်ဆက်မှုရဲ့ စိတိလှုပ်ရှားမှုဟာ

comes from the attempt to have a collective of musicians

စုစည်းထုတ်လုပ်ထားတဲ့အယူအဆ တစ်ခုလုံးကို ဂီတပညာရှင်တစ်စုရဲ့

producing one unified whole concept.

အားထုတ်ခြင်းကနေလာပါတယ်။

The excitement from using multi-tracking,

အသံလိုင်းပေါင်းစုံ သုံးခြင်းက စိတ်လှုပ်ရှားမှုဟာ

the way I did in the piece you will hear next,

ကျွန်မလုပ်ခဲ့တဲ့နည်း၊ ရှင်တို့နောက်ထပ် နားဆင်ရမယ့်ဟာက

comes from the attempt

အားလုံးကို ရင်းမြစ်တစ်ခုတည်းက

to build and create a whole universe

ထုတ်ယူထားတဲ့ စကြာဝဠာတစ်ခုလုံးကို

with many diverse layers,

အလွှာမျိုးစုံနဲ့ တည်ဆောက် ဖန်တီးဖို့

all generated from a single source.

အားထုတ်ခြင်းကနေ လာတာပါ။

My cello and my voice are layered

ကျွန်မရဲ့ တယောနဲ့ အသံဟာ ဒီ အသံပြင်ကြီး

to create this large sonic canvas.

ဖန်တီးဖို့ အလွှာလွှာထပ်ထားပါတယ်။

When composers write music for me,

တေးပြုတွေက ဂီတာကို ကျွန်မအတွက် သီကုံးပေးတော့

I ask them to forget what they know about the cello.

တယောအကြောင်း သူတို့ သိတာ မေ့လိုက်ဖို့

I hope to arrive at new territories

ပြောပြီး အရင်က ကျွန်မ မကြားခဲ့ဖူး တာကို ရှာဖွေဖို့

to discover sounds I have never heard before.

နယ်နိမိတ်သစ်တွေကို ရောက်ဖို့ မျှော်လင့်ပါတယ်။

I want to create endless possibilities

ဒီတယောနဲ့ အဆုံးမဲ့ ဖြစ်နိုင်ခြေတွေကို

with this cello.

ဖန်တီးချင်ပါတယ်။

I become the medium through which the music is being channeled,

ကျွန်မဟာ ထုတ်လွင့်နေတဲ့ ဂီတနဲ့ ဖြစ်စဉ်ကြားက

and in the process, when all is right,

ကြားခံ ဖြစ်လာပါတယ်။ အားလုံးပြီးတော့

the music is transformed

ဂီတဟာ ပြောင်းလဲသွားတယ်။

and so am I.

ကျွန်မလည်း ပြောင်းလဲသွားတာပေါ့။
