Just after Christmas last year,

Five years ago, I decided to try to uncover the answers to these questions.

I learned that what happened

The first story starts with a child psychiatrist at Johns Hopkins Hospital

In 1943, Kanner published a paper

For example, he discouraged giving the diagnosis to children who had seizures

but a number of his theories didn't pan out.

These children, he said,

Kanner noticed that some of his young patients

Lorna Wing was a cognitive psychologist in London
