We all have milestones in life that we remember so vividly.

ကျွန်မတို့ ကောင်းကောင်းကြီး မှတ်မိနေကြတဲ့ ဘဝထဲမှာ အရေးကြီးတဲ့ မှတ်တိုင်တွေ ရှိပါတယ်။

The first one for me was when I was entering kindergarten.

ကျွန်မအတွက် ပထမတစ်ခုမှာ သူငယ်တန်းကို တက်စကပါ။

My big brother was in school, and by golly, it was my time.

ကျွန်မ အကိုကြီးဟာ ကျောင်းကို တက်နှင့်နေကာ၊ ကျွန်မ အလှည့်ရောက်လာခဲ့တယ်။

And I went trottin' down that hallway.

I was so excited, I almost wet myself.

And I go to the door,

and there was the teacher with a warm welcome,

and she took me into the classroom,

showed me my little cubbyhole --

ကျွန်မရဲ့ နေရာကလေးကို၊

we all remember those little cubbyholes, don't we --

ရှင်တို့ အားလုံး မှတ်မိနေကြတဲ့ နေရာကလေးဟာမျိုးကို ပြတယ်၊

and we put our stuff in there.

ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ ပစ္စည်းတွေ ထည့်ဖို့ နေရာလေ။

And then she said, "Go over to the circle

ပြီနောက်၊ “ဟိုကစားဝိုင်းကို သွား၊

and play with the kids until class starts."

အတန်း မစမီအထိ ကလေးတွေနဲ့ ကစားပါ။”လို့ ပြောတယ်။

So I went over there and plopped down like I owned the place,

အဲဒါနဲ့ ကျွန်မ အဲဒီနေရာကို သွားပြီး ကိုယ်ပိုင်နေရာလို ထိုင်ချလိုက်တယ်၊

and I'm playing,

ပြီးတော့ ကစားနေခဲ့တယ်၊

and all of a sudden, the boy next to me,

ရုတ်ခနဲဆိုသလို ဘေးမှာ ရပ်နေခဲ့ကာ

he was wearing a white shirt with blue shorts.

အင်္ကျီဖြူနဲ့ အပြာရောင် ဘောင်းဘီတိုနဲ့ ကောင်လေးက၊

I remember it like it was yesterday.

မနေ့က ဖြစ်ခဲ့သလိုကို ကျွန်မ မှတ်မိတယ်၊

Suddenly he stopped playing and he said,

ရုတ်တရက် ကစားနေတာကို ရပ်လိုက်ပြီး ပြောလိုက်တာက၊

"Why are you so short?"

“နင်ဘာဖြစ်လို့ ဒီလောက် ပုနေရတာလဲ။”

And I just kept playing. I didn't think he was talking to me.

ကျွန်မကတော့ ဆက်စကားနေတယ်၊ သူကျွန်မကို ပြောနေမှန်း မထင်ခဲ့ဘူး။

(Laughter)

(ရယ်သံများ)

And in a louder voice, he said,

သူဟာ ကျယ်လောင်တဲ့ အသံကြီးနဲ့၊

"Hey, why are you so short?"

“ဟေး၊ နင်ဘာဖြစ်လို့ အရပ်ပုနေတာလဲ။”

So I looked up and I said,

အဲဒါနဲ့ ကျွန်မ ထရပ်လိုက်ပြီး၊

"What are you talking about? Let's just play. We're happy.

“နင် ဘာတွေ ပြောနေတာလဲ။ ကစားကြရအောင်၊ ငါတို့ ပျော်တယ်လေ။

I've been waiting for this."

ဒီလို ကစားဖို့ စောင့်လာခဲ့တာ။

And so we played, and about a minute later,

အဲဒါနဲ့ ဆက်ကစားလာကြရာ၊ တစ်မိနစ် အကြာမှာ၊

the girl next to him, in a white shirt and a pink skirt,

အင်္ကျီဖြူနဲ့ ပန်းနုရောင် စကတ်နဲ့ ကျွန်မဘေးက ကလေးမလေးက၊

မတ်တတ်ရပ်လိုက်ကာ သူ့လက်တွေကို တင်ပါးဆုံပေါ် တင်လိုက်ကာ၊

stood up, put her hands on her hips,

and said, "Yeah, why do you look so different?"

“ဟုတ်တယ်၊ နင့်ကြည့်ရတာ လုံးဝတမျိုးကြီးပဲ။”

And I went, "What are you talking about?

ကျွန်မက၊ “နင်တို့ ဘာတွေ ပြောနေကြတာလဲ။

I don't look different. I'm not short. Again, let's just play."

ကျွန်မ ဘာမှမခြားနားဘူး၊ အရပ်မပုဘူး၊ ဆက်ပြီး ကစားကြရအောင်။”

About this time, I looked all around the circle I was in,

အဲဒီအချိန်မှာ ကျွန်မကို ဝန်းရံနေတဲ့ စက်ဝန်းကို ကြည့်လိုက်တော့

and all the kids had stopped playing and they were all looking at me.

ကလေးတွေအားလုံး ကစားတာကို ရပ်လိုက်ကြပြီး ကျွန်မကို ဝိုင်းကြည့်နေကြတယ်။

And I'm thinking --

ကျွန်မက စဉ်းစားနေခဲ့တယ်--

in today's language, it would be "OMG" or "WTF."

ဒီနေ့ အသုံးအနှုန်းနဲ့ ပြောရရင် အဲဒါ "OMG" (သို့) "WTF ဖြစ်ခဲ့မှာပါ။"

(Laughter)

What just happened?

ဘာတွေများ ဖြစ်လာပါလိမ့်။

So all the confidence that I went in with that morning

ဒီလိုနည်းဖြင့်၊ မနက်က ကျောင်းကို လာစဉ် ရှိခဲ့တဲ့ ယုံကြည်မှုဟာ

was withering away as the morning went on

နံနက်ခင်း ကုန်လာတာနဲ့အမှှ လွင့်ပျောက်သွားခဲ့တယ်၊

and the questions kept coming.

မေးခွန်းတွေကတော့ ဆက်လာနေတုန်းပဲ။

And at the end of the morning, before I went home,

နံနက်အကုန်ပိုင်းမှာ၊ ကျွန်မ အိမ်ကို မပြန်ခင်တွင်၊

ဆရာမက ကျွန်မတို့ကို စက်ဝန်း ပုံစံ ရပ်ခိုင်းတယ်၊

the teacher had us in a circle,

and I actually found myself outside of the circle.

ကျွန်မကျတော့ စက်ဝန်း အပြင်မှာ ရှိနေတာ သတိထားမိတယ်။

I couldn't look at anybody.

ကျွန်မဟာ ဘသူ့ကိုမှ မကြည့်ခဲ့ပါ။

I could not understand what just happened.

ခုနက ဖြစ်ပျက်ခဲ့တာကို ကျွန်မ နားလည် မရခဲ့ပါ။

And over the next few years,

အဲဒီနောက်ပိုင်း နှစ်အတော်ကလေး ကြာတဲ့ အထိ၊

I hated to go out in public.

ကျွန်မဟာ လူရှေ့သူရှေ့ သွားရမှာကို မုန်းခဲ့တယ်။

I felt every stare, every giggle,

ကျွန်မဟာ စိုက်ကြည့်ခံရတာကို တခစ်ခစ် ရယ်နေကြတာကို

every pointed finger,

not the finger,

and I hated it.

I would hide behind my parents' legs like nobody could see me.

ကျွန်မဟာ မိဘခြေတွေရဲ့ နောက်မှာ ပုန်းနေတတ်ကာ ဘသူမှ မမြင်ဘူးမှတ်တယ်။

And as a child,

ကလေးတစ်ယောက် အနေနဲ့၊

you can't understand another child's curiosity,

အခြား ကလေးတစ်ယောက်ရဲ့ စပ်စုလိုစိတ်ကို၊ လူကြီးတွေရဲ့ လျစ်လျူရှုမှုကို

nor an adult's ignorance.

နားလည်ရန် ခဲယဉ်းပါတယ်။

It became very apparent to me that the real world was not built

ဒီကမ္ဘာကြီးကို ကျွန်မလို အရွယ်အစားရှိသူတွေ အတွက် တည်ဆောက်မထားဘူးဆိုတာ

for someone of my size, both literally or figuratively.

ကျွန်မအတွက် လုံးဝကို ရှင်းလာခဲ့တယ်။

And so I have no anonymity, as you can probably tell,

ဒီတော့ ရှင်တို့ အားလုံး မြင်နိုင်သလို ကျွန်မဟာ မထင်မရှား နေလို့ မရနိုင်ပါ၊

and while you can see my size,

ကျွန်မရဲ့ အရွယ်အစား ရှိသူတွေ

we all go through many challenges through our lifetime.

အားလုံးတို့ဟာ တသက်တာမှာ စိန်ခေါ်မှုတွေ အများကြီးကို ရင်ဆိုင်ကြရပါတယ်။

And some you can see, like mine.

အချို့တို့ဆိုရင် ကျွန်မနဲ့ တူကြမှာပါ။

Most you can't.

ဒါပေမဲ့ မြင်မရတာလည်း အများကြီးပါ။

You can't tell if someone's dealing with a mental illness,

စိတ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာ ရောဂါရှိသူကို၊ ဒါမှမဟုတ် မျိုးရိုးဗီဇဆိုင်ရာ

or they're struggling with their gender identity,

ပြဿနာရှိလို့ ရုန်းကန်နေရသူကို သိမြင်ရန် မလွယ်ပါ။

they're caring for an aging parent,

အသက်ကြီးရင့်လာနေတဲ့ မိဘတွေကို စောင့်ရှောက်ပေးသူကို၊

they're having financial difficulty.

ငွေရေးကြေးရေး အခက်အခဲမရှိသူတွေကို မြင်မရနိုင်ပါ။

You can't see that kind of stuff.

ပြဿနာတွေကို အမျိုးမျိုး ရှိနိုင်ပါတယ်။

So while you can see

ကျွန်မလို အရွယ်အစားရှိသူရဲ့

one of my challenges is my size,

ပြဿနာကို ရှင်တို့ မြင်နိုင်ကြပါပြီ၊

seeing does not mean you understand

မြင်လိုက်ကြခြင်းက ကျွန်မ နေ့စဉ် ဖြတ်ကျော်ရတာတွေကို

what it's truly to be me on a daily basis, or what I go through.

ကျွန်မ ရင်ဆိုင်ရတာတွေကို တကယ် နားလည်နိုင်ပြီလို့ ပြောမရနိုင်ပါ။

ဒီနေ့ ကျွန်မ ဒီကို ရောက်လာတာက ဒဏ္ဍာရီကို ဖွင့်ချြပဖို့ အတွက်ပါ။

And so I'm here to debunk a myth.

I do not believe you can walk in someone else's shoes,

ရှင်တို့ဟာ အခြားတစ်ဦးဦးရဲ့ ဖိန်ပ်ကို စီးမရနိုင်တာ ကျွန်မယုံတယ်၊

and because of that, we must adopt a new way of giving of ourselves.

ဒါကြောင့်မို့လို့ ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ ကိုယ့်ကိုကိုယ် တစ်မျိုး မြင်သင့်ပါတယ်။

Simply stated, I will never know what it's like to be you

ရိုးရိုးလေး ပြောရရင်၊ ရှင်တို့ရဲ့ဘဝကို ကျွန်မ ဘယ်တော့မှ နားလည်မရနိုင်သလိုပဲ၊

and you will never know what it's like to be me.

ကျွန်မရဲ့ အဖြစ်ကို ရှင်တို့လည်း ဘယ်တော့မှ သိနိုင်မှာ မဟတ်ပါ။

I cannot face your fears or chase your dreams,

ကျွန်မဟာ ရှင်တို့ရဲ့ စိုးရိမ်စရာတွေ စိတ်ကူးတွေကို မသိနိုင်သလို

and you can't do that for me,

ရှင်တို့ကလည်း ကျွန်မအတွက် အဲဒါကို လုပ်မရနိုင်ပါ။

but we can be supportive of each other.

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကျွန်မတို့ တစ်ဦးကို တစ်ဦး ကူညီပေးနိုင်ကြပါတယ်။

Instead of trying to walk in each other's shoes,

တစ်ဦးက အခြားတစ်ဦးရဲ့ ဖိနပ်ကို စီးရန် ကြိုးစားမယ့်အစား

we must adopt a new way of giving of ourselves.

ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ ကိုယ့်ကိုကိုယ် အလျှော့ပေးရန် နည်းသစ်ကို ကျင့်သုံးကြရပါမယ်။

I learned at an early age

ငယ်ငယ်ကတည်းက ကျွန်မ နားလည်လိုက်တာ တစ်ခုက

that I did have to do some things different than most people,

ကျွန်မဟာ လူအများစုနဲ့မတူဘဲ တစ်မျိုး လုပ်ရတဲ့ ကိစ္စတွေ ရှိတယ်၊

but I also learned there were things I was on equal footing with,

တချိန်တည်းမှာ အားလုံးနဲ့ တန်းတူ လုပ်နိုင်တဲ့ အရာတွေ၊ စာသင်ခန်းလိုမျိုး

and one of those was the classroom.

ရှိတယ်ဆိုတာကို သိနားလည်လိုက်တယ်။

Heh, heh, heh. I was equal.

ဟေး၊ဟေး၊ ဟေး။ တန်းတူရည်တူနော်။

As a matter of fact, I excelled in the classroom.

ပြီးတော့ ဖြစ်ချင်တော့ ကျွန်ဟာ အတန်းထဲမှာ တော်ခဲ့တယ်။

This was vitally important, I discovered as I grew older

ကျွန်မ အသက်ကြီးလာတာနဲ့အမျှ၊ ကိုယ်ကာယသုံးရမယ့် အလုပ်ကို

and realized I wasn't going to be able to do a physical job.

ကျွန်မ မလုပ်နိုင်တာကို နားလည်လာတော့ အဲဒီအချက်ဟာ သိပ်ကို အရေးကြီးတယ်။

I needed an education.

ကျွန်မဟာ ပညာသင်ဖို့ လိုခဲ့တယ်။

So I went on and got a university degree,

အဲဒါနဲ့ ကျွန်မ ဆက်အားထုတ်ခဲ့လို့ တက္ကသိုလ်ဘွွဲ့ကို ရယူခဲ့တယ်၊

but I felt to be one step ahead of everyone for employment,

ဒါပေမဲ့ အလုပ်ရဖို့အတွက် ကျွန်မဟာ သူများထက် တပန်းသာရန် လိုတာကို

I needed to have an advanced university degree,

နားလည်ခဲ့တယ်၊ အဆင့်မြင့် တက္ကသိုလ်ဘွွဲ့ ရဖို့လိုလို့၊

so I went ahead and got that.

ရှေ့ဆက် တက်ခဲ့လျက် ရယူခဲ့တယ်။

Now I'm ready for my interview.

အခုတော့ ကျွန်မဟာ အင်တာဗျူး အတွက် အသင့်ရှိနေပြီ။

Remember your first interview? What am I going to wear?

ရှင်တို့ရဲ့ ပထမဦးဆုံး အင်တာဗျူးကို မှတ်မိကြလား။

What questions?

မေးခွန်းတွေက ဘာတွေလဲ။

And don't forget that firm handshake.

အခိုင်အမာ လက်ဆွဲနှုတ်ဆက်ဖို့ မမေ့ရန်။

I was right there with you.

ကျွန်မလည်း ရှင်တို့ အတိုင်းပါပဲ။

So 24 hours before my interview,

အင်တာဗျား မတိုင်မီ ၂၄ နာရီအလိုတွင်၊

a friend of mine who I've known all my life

ကျွန်မ တသက်လုံး သိလာခဲ့တဲ့ မိတ်ဆွေ တစ်ဦးက

called and said, "Michele, the building you're going in has steps."

ဖုန်းဆက်ပြီး၊ “Michele၊ နင်သွားရမယ့် အဆောက်အဦမှာ လှေခါးထစ်တွေ ရှိတယ်။“

And she knew I couldn't climb steps.

ကျွန်မ လှေခါးထစ်တွေကို မတက်နိုင်တာ သူသိခဲ့တယ်။

So suddenly, my focus changed.

အဲဒါနဲ့ ကျွန်မရဲ့ အာရုံဟာ ရုတ်ခနဲ ပြောင်းသွားတယ်။

In my shoes, I was worried about how am I going to get there?

ကျွန်မအခြေအနေထဲမှာ အဲဒီကို ဘယ်လိုများ သွားရမလဲ စိုးရိမ်မိတယ်။

So I went early and found a loading dock and got in and had a great interview.

ဒါနဲ့ စောစီးစွာ သွားခဲ့ပြီး ပစ္စည်းတင် ဓါတ်လှေခါးနဲ့ အင်တာဗျူးကို ရောက်သွားတယ်။

အဲဒီနေ့မှာ ကျွန်မ ဘယ်လို အခက်အခဲတွေ ရင်ဆိုင်ခဲ့ရမှန်း သူတို့ မသိတာ အိုကေပါ။

They had no idea what I went through for the day and that's OK.

You're probably thinking my greatest challenge that day was the interview,

ကျွန်မအတွက် အဲဒီနေ့မှာ အင်တာဗျူး ဒါမှမဟုတ် အဆောက်အဦနေရာ

or getting in the building.

ရောက်ဖို့ အခက်ဆုံး ပြဿနာလို့ ရှင်တို့ ထင်ခဲ့ကြမယ်။

In reality, my biggest challenge that day

တကယ်ကျတော့၊ ပစ္စည်းတင် ဓာတ်လှေခါးထဲ ရောက်ဖို့ လုပ်ရတဲ့ ကိစ္စဟာ

was getting through the loading dock without getting run over.

ကျွန်မအတွက် အဲဒီနေ့မှာ အခက်ဆုံး ဖြစ်ခဲ့တယ်။

I am very vulnerable in certain situations:

ကျွန်မဟာ အချို့ အခြေအနေတွေမှာ သိပ်ကို ထိခိုက်လွယ်ပါတယ်-

airports, hallways, parking lots,

လေဆိပ်တို့၊ ခန်းမကြီးတွ၊ ကားထားရုံတွေ၊

တွန်းလှည်းတင် ဓာတ်လှေခါးပေါ့။

loading docks.

And so I have to be very careful.

ကျွန်မဟာ သိပ်ကို သတိထားထို့ လိုပါတယ်။

I have to anticipate and be flexible

ကိုယ်က ကြိုတင်တွက်ရတာ၊ အလွယ်တကူ ပြောင်းလွဲနိုင်ပြီး

and move as quickly as I can sometimes.

ကျွန်မ တတ်နိုင်လောက် အမြန်သွားဖို့ လိုတတ်ပါတယ်။

So I got the job,

အဲဒီအလုပ်ကို ကျွန်မ ရခဲ့လို့၊

and in my current role I travel quite a bit.

ကျွန်မရဲ့ အလုပ်သဘောအရ မကြာခဏဆိုသလို ခရီးထွက်ရတယ်။

And travel is a challenge for all of us these days.

ခရီးသွားရခြင်းဟာ အခုဆိုရင် စိန်ခေါ်မှုနဲ့ တူတတ်ပါတယ်။

And so you probably get to the airport, run through security, get to the gate.

ရှင်တို့ဆိုရင်၊ လေဆိပ်ကို အမှီသွားရတာ၊ လုံခြုံရေးကို ဖြတ်ပြီး ဂိတ်ဝကို သွားရတယ်။

Did I get my aisle seat or my window seat? Did I get my upgrade?

ကိုယ့်ထိုင်ရမှာက ပြူတင်းနားမှာလား၊ အဆင့်မြှင့်လို့ ရမလား ပေါ့လေ။

Me, first of all, I don't run through anything.

ကျွန်မကျတော့ ဘာတစ်ခုကိုမှ ပြေးလွှား လုပ်လို့ မရနိုင်ပါ။

(Laughter)

And I especially don't run through the TSA

အထူးသဖြင့် ကျွန်မကို ဝန်ထမ်းတွေကို တင်ချပေးရတော့ လုံခြုံရေး

because I get to experience the personal patdown.

I won't comment on that.

And then I make my way to the gate,

အဲဒီနောက်မှာ ကျွန်မဟာ ဂိတ်ဆီကို ရှေ့ရှုသွားတတ်တယ်၊

and with my gift of gab that my parents said I was born with,

ကျွန်မ မိဘတွေ ပြောသလို မွေးရာပါ မွန်ရည်စွာ စကားပြောနိုင်စွမ်းကြောင့်

I talk to the gate agent, and then I say, "By the way, my scooter weighs this much,

ဂိတ်စောင့်အေဂျင့်နဲ့ စကားပြောရင်း၊ ကျွန်မ စကူတားရဲ့ အလေးချိန်က ဘယ်လောက်၊

I have a dry cell battery,

အဲဒီမှာ ဘက်ထရီဆဲလ် အခြောက်ပါတယ်၊

and I can drive it down to the door of the plane."

ကျွန်မ အဲဒါကို လေယာဉ် တံခါးပေါက်အထိ မောင်းနိုင်တာကို ပြောပြပါတယ်။

Also, the day before, I had called the city where I'm traveling to

ပြီးတော့ တစ်နေ့ကဆိုရင်၊ ကျွန်မ ခရီး ထွက်ဖို့ ရှိတဲ့ မြို့ကို ဖုန်းဆက်ပြီး၊

to find out where I could rent a scooter in case mine gets broken on the way.

ကျွန်မရဲ့ စကူတား ပျက်သွားခဲ့ရင် စကူတား ငှါးလို့ ရနိုင်မလား မေးကြည့်ခဲ့တယ်။

So in my shoes, it's a little bit different.

ဒီတော့ ကျွန်မရဲ့ အဖြစ်က နဲနဲလေးတော့ မတူချင်ပါ။

When I get onto the plane,

လေယာဉ်ပေါ်ကို ရောက်ရင်လည်း၊

I use my gift of gab to ask the lady to put my bag up, and they graciously do.

ကျွန်မရဲ့ အိတ်ကို တင်ထားပေးရန် ပြောရင် ယဉ်ကျေးစွာ တင်ပေးကြပါတယ်။

လေယာဉ်ပေါ်တွင် ကျွန်မဟာ စားခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် သောက်ခြင်းကို ရှောင်ရတယ်၊

I try not to eat or drink on a plane

because I don't want to have to get up and walk on the plane,

So I walked up to the front of the plane

So I'm in there doing my business, and the door flies open.

အဲဒါနဲ့ အထဲမှာ ထိုင်နေရင်း ကိစ္စဝိစ္စတွေ လုပ်နေတုန်း တံခါးက သူဘာသာသူ ပွင့်သွားရော။

And there's a gentleman there

ဟိုအမျိုးသားက အဲဒီမှာ ရပ်နေရင်း

with a look of horror on his face.

သူ့မျက်နှာက ကြောက်လန်နေလို့ပေါ့။

I'm sure I had the same look.

ကျွန်မကလည်း အလားတူ ဖြစ်ခဲ့မှာ သေချာတယ်။

As I came out, I noticed that he was sitting right across from me,

ကျွန်မ ထွက်လာခဲ့တယ်၊ သူဟာ ရှေ့မှာ ရပ်နေလို့၊

and he's in total, complete embarrassment.

သူဟာ လုံးဝကို စိတ်ပျက်လျက် ရှိနေခဲ့တယ်။

So I walk up to him and I quietly go,

ကျွန်မဟာ သူ့ဆီကို လမ်းလျှောက်သွားလျက်၊

"Are you going to remember this as much as I am?"

“ဒီအဖြစ်ကို ရှင်ကရော ကျွန်မလိုပဲ မှတ်မိနေမှာလား။”

(Laughter)

And he goes, "I think so."

သူကလည်း၊ “မှတ်မိမယ် ထင်တာပဲ။”

(Laughter)

Now, while he's probably not talking about it publicly, I am.

ကျွန်မက ဒီအကြောင်းကို ပြောနိုင်ပေမဲ့၊ သူကတော့ ဒီအကြောင်း ပြောမှာ မဟုတ်ပါ။

But we talked for the rest of the flight,

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ ကျန်တဲ့ ခရီးစဉ်မှာ စကားပြောခဲ့ကြတယ်၊

and we got to know each other, our families, sports, work,

တစ်ဦးကိုတစ်ဦးကို၊ မိသားစုတွေ အလုပ်တွေ အပြန်အလှန် သိလာကြတယ်၊

and when we landed, he said,

ကျွန်မတို့ လေယာဉ် ဆင်းလိုက်တော့၊ သူက

"Michele, I noticed someone put your bag up.

“Michele၊ ခင်ဗျား အိတ်ကို ကူတင်ပေးတာ သတိထားမိတယ်၊

Can I get that for you?"

ခင်ဗျားအတွက် ချပေးရမလား။”

And I said, "Of course, thank you."

ကျွန်မ၊ “ဟုတ်ကဲ့၊ ကျေးဇူးတင်ပါတယ်။”

And we wished each other well,

တစ်ဦးအတွက်တစ်ဦး ဆုမွန်ကောင်း တောင်းရင်း

and the most important thing that day

အဲဒီနေ့အတွက် အရေးကြီးဆုံးအချက်က

was that he was not going to leave with that embarrassment,

သူဟာ စိတ်အနှောင့်အယှက် ဖြစ်ခဲ့ရတာကို မေ့လို့ရမှာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး၊

that experience of embarrassment.

စိတ်အနှောင့်အယှက်ခံလိုက်ရတဲ့ အတွေ့အကြုံကိုလေ။

He won't forget it, and neither will I,

သူဟာ အဲဒါကို မေ့နိုင်မှာ မဟုတ်သလို ကျွန်မလည်း မေ့မရနိုင်၊

but I think he will remember more

ဒါပေမဲ့ သူဟာ ကျွန်မတို့ ပြောဆိုခဲ့တာတွေကို

our chat and our different perspectives.

ဘဝအမြင် မတူကြတာကို ပိုမှတ်မိမယ် ထင်ပါတယ်။

အခြားနိုင်ငံတွေကို ခရီးထွက်တဲ့ အခါမှာကျတော့၊

When you travel internationally,

it can be even more challenging in certain ways.

တော်တော်များများဟာ ပိုလို့ကို စိန်ခေါ်ရာ ကျနိုင်ပါတယ်။

A few years ago, I was in Zanzibar,

လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ နှစ်အနည်းငယ်တုန်းက ကျွန်မ ဇန်ဇီဘာကို သွားခဲ့တယ်၊

and I come wheeling in,

တွန်းလှည်းလေးနဲ့ ရောက်သွားတာ၊

and think about that.

ရှင်တို့ စဉ်းစားကြည့်ကြပါ။

Short, white, blond woman in a chair.

အရပ်ပုပု၊ ဆံပင်ဖြူနဲ့ အမျိုးသမီး တွန်းလှည်းထိုင်ခုံထဲမှာ။

That doesn't probably happen every day.

နေ့စဉ် တွေ့နေကျ အရာမျိုး မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

So I go up, and with my gift of gab, I start to talk to the agent.

အဲဒါနဲ့ ကျွန်မ ထရပ်လိုက်ပြီး အေဂျင့်နဲ့ စကားပြောဆိုနေပါတော့တယ်။

So friendly, and I ask about their culture and so forth,

ခင်မင်စွာဖြင့် သူတို့ရဲ့ ယဉ်ကျေးမှုနဲ့ ဒီပြင် အကြောင်းတေနွကို ပြောနေစဉ်၊

and I notice there wasn't a jet bridge.

ပေါင်းကူးတံတါး မရှိတာကို ကျွန်မ သတိထားမိတယ်။

So I had to kind of say,

အဲဒါနဲ့ ကျွန်မက၊ “ကျွန်မရဲ့ ထိုင်ခုံကို မတင်ပေးရုံတင်မက

"Not only do you have to lift my chair,

ကျွန်မ လှေခါးထစ်တွေကို တက်ဖို့လည်း

I could use some help getting up the steps."

အကူအညီ လိုပါဦးမယ်။”လို့ ပြောရတယ်။

So we got to spend about an hour together while we waited for the flight,

ဒီလိုနည်းဖြင့် ပျံဖို့အတွက်ကို စောင့်နေရတာ တစ်နာရီကြာခဲ့တယ်၊

and it was the most magnificent hour.

အဲဒီခရီးစဉ်ဟာ အရမ်းကို အံ့အားသင့်စရာကြီးပါပဲ။

Our perspective changed for both of us that day.

အဲဒီနေ့မှာ ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ ရှုထောင့်တွေ နှစ်ဦးစလုံဆီမှာ ပြောင်းသွားတယ်။

And once I got on the flight,

ကျွန်မ လေယာဉ် အပေါ် ရောက်သွားတော့

he patted me on the back and wished me well,

သူက ကျွန်မ ကျောကို ပုပ်ပေးရင်း အားလုံးကောင်းဖို့ ဆန္ဒပြုတယ်၊

and I thanked him so much.

ကျွန်မ သူ့ကို ကျေးဇူးအရမ်းတင်မိတယ်။

And again, I think he's going to remember that experience more

ဒီတကြိမ်မှာလည်း အဲဒီအတွေ့အကြုံကို သူဟာ မှတ်မိမယ် ထင်ပါတယ်၊

than when I first came in, and there was a bit of hesitation.

ကျွန်မ စဝင်လာချိန်မှာ စနိုးစနောင့် ဖြစ်ခဲ့ရတာကို မှတ်မိမှာပါ။

ရှင်တို့ သတိထားမိကြသလို၊ ကျွန်မကို တော်တော်များ ကူကြတယ်။

And as you notice, I get a lot of help.

I would not be where I am today

ကျွန်မရဲ့ မိသားစု၊ မိတ်ဆွေတွေ၊ လုပ်ဖေါ်ကိုင်ဘက်တွေ၊

if it was not for my family, my friends, my colleagues

လူစိမ်းတွေသာ မရှိခဲ့ကြပါက ကျွန်မ အနေနဲ့

and the many strangers

ဒီမှာ ရပ်နေနိုင်ခဲ့မှာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

that help me every single day of my life.

သူတို့အားလုံးဟာ ကျွန်မကို ကျွန်မရဲ့ နေ့စဉ်ဘဝထဲ ကူညီပေးခဲ့ကြပါတယ်။

And it's important that we all have a support system.

ကျွန်မတို့ အားလုံးဆီမှာ ပံ့ပိုးကူညီရေး စနစ်ရှိနေတာ အရေးကြီးပါတယ်။

Asking for help is a strength,

အကူအညီကို တောင်းခံခြင်းဟာ စွမ်းအားပါ၊

not a weakness.

အားနည်းမှု မဟုတ်ပါ။

We all need help throughout our lifetime,

ကျွန်မတို့ အားလုံး ဘဝတလျှောက်လုံးမှာ အကူအညီ လိုအပ်ကြပါတယ်။

but it is just as important

ပြီးတော့ နောက် အရေးကြီးသေးတာက

that we are part of other people's support systems.

ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ အခြားသူတွေအား ကူညီရေး စနစ်ထဲက အစိတ်အပိုင်း ဖြစ်ကြခြင်းပါပဲ။

We must adopt that way of giving back.

ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ အဲဒီလို အတုန့်အလှည့် သဘောကို လက်ခံကြရပါမယ်။

We all obviously have a role to play in our own successes,

ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ အောင်မြင်မှုထဲမှာ ကပြရမယ့် အခန်း ရှိတယ်၊

but think about the role we have to play in other people's successes,

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကျွန်မကို အခြားသူတွေ နေ့စဉ် ကူညီပေးနေကြသလို အခြားသူတွေရဲ့

just like people do for me every single day.

အောင်မြင်မှုထဲ ကျွန်မတို့ ကပြရမယ့် အခန်းကိုလည်း စဉ်းစားရမယ်။

It's vitally important that we help each other,

လူ့အဖွဲ့အစည်းထဲမှာ အစွဲအလမ်းတွေ အယူဝါဒတွေရဲ့

because society is increasingly placing people in silos

ဖိအားပေးမှုတွေ များလှတော့၊ ကျွန်မတို့

based on biases and ideologies.

အပြန်အလှန်ကူညီကြရန် အရေးကြီးပါတယ်။

And we must look past the surface

ပြီးတော့ ကျွန်မတို့ ဘဝခရီးကို နှင်ကြရာတွင်

and be confronted with the truth

ကျွန်မတို့အထဲက ဘယ်သူမှာမှ အားလုံး မြင်နေကြသလို

မဟုတ်ဘူးဆိုတဲ့ အမှန်တရားကို ရင်ဆိုင်ကြရတာကို သတိရနေရန် လိုတယ်။

that none of us are what you can see.

There's more to us than that,

အဲဒီထက်ကိုပိုပြီး၊ ကျွန်မတို့ အားလုံးဟာ

and we're all dealing with things that you cannot see.

မြင်လို့မရနိုင်တဲ့ အရာတွေကို ကိုင်တွယ်နေကြရပါတယ်။

ဒါကြောင့်မို့လို့ ဝေဖန်သုံးသပ်မှု ကင်းမဲ့စွာ နေထိုင်ကြမယ်ဆိုရင်

So living a life free of judgment

allows all of us to share those experiences together

ခုနက အတွေ့အကြုံတွေကို အပြန်အလှန် မျှဝေပေးနိုင်မှာမို့

and have a totally different perspective,

ကျွန်မရဲ့ အဖြစ်အပျက်တွေကို ပြောပြခဲ့တဲ့ အထဲက လူတွေလိုပါပဲ၊

just like the couple of people I mentioned earlier in my stories.

လုံးဝကို မတူကွဲပြားတဲ့ ရှုထောင့်တွေကို ရရှိလက်ခံလာနိုင်ကြမှာပါ။

So remember, the only shoes

ဒီတော့ ရှင်တို့ အားလုံး သတိရသင့်တာက ရှင်တို့

you truly can walk in are your own.

တကယ် လမ်းလျှောက်နိုင်တာက ကိုယ့်ဖိနပ်ကို စီးရမှာပါ။

I cannot walk in yours.

ကျွန်မဟာ ရှင်တို့ရဲ့ ဖိနပ်ကို စီးမရနိုင်ပါ။

I know you can't walk in my size 1s --

ပြီးတော့ ရှင်တို့ကလည်း ကျွန်မရဲ့ ဖိနပ်ဆိုက် ၁ ကို စီးမရနိုင်ပါ။

but you can try.

But we can do something better than that.

With compassion, courage and understanding,

စာနာစိတ်၊ အားပေးလိုစိတ်နဲ့ သိနားလည်လိုစိတ်နဲ့သာ ဆိုရင်

we can walk side by side

ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ ဘေးချင်းယဉ် လျှောက်ရင်း

and support one another,

တစ်ဦးကိုတစ်ဦး ကူညီပေးနိုင်ကြတယ်၊

and think about how society can change

ကျွန်မတို့ မြင်ရတာတွေကိုသာ စဉ်းစား ဆုံးဖြတ်ကြမယ့်အစား၊

အဲဒီလိုသာ ကျွန်မတို့ နေထိုင်နိုင်ကြမယ်ဆိုရင်

if we all do that

instead of judging on only what you can see.

လူ့အဖွဲ့အစည်းကြီး ဘယ်လို ပြောင်းလဲ လာမှာကို စဉ်းစားကြည့်ကြပါ။
