Recently, I flew over a crowd

မကြာသေးခင်က George Frideric Handel ရဲ့

of thousands of people in Brazil

playing music by George Frideric Handel.

I also drove along the streets of Amsterdam,

Amsterdam ကလမ်းတွေ တစ်လျှောက်မှာလည်း မောင်းနှင်ခဲ့ပါတယ်၊

again playing music by this same composer.

Let's take a look.

Daria van den Bercken: All this was a real

magical experience for hundreds of reasons.

Now you may ask, why have I done these things?

အခုမေးနိူင်တာက ကျွန်မ ဘာဖြစ်လို့ဒါတွေလုပ်တာတာလဲ။

They're not really typical for a musician's

day-to-day life.

Well, I did it because I fell in love with the music

ကောင်ပြီ၊ အကြောင်းကတော့ ကျွန်မဟာဂီတကို မြတ်နိူးသွားပြီး

and I wanted to share it with as many people

ဒါကို လူတွေများနိူင်သလောက်

as possible.

များများနဲ့ မျှဝေချင်ပါတယ်။

It started a couple of years ago.

လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ ၁ နှစ်၂ နှစ်လောက်က စခဲ့တာပါ

I was sitting at home on the couch with the flu

တုတ်ကွေးမိပြီး အိမ်မှာ ဆိုဖာပေါ်ထိုင်ရင်း၊

and browsing the Internet a little,

အင်တာနက်မှာ ဟိုကြည့်ဒီကြည့် လုပ်နေတုန်း

when I found out that Handel had written works

ကီးဘုတ်အတွက် Handel သီကုံးခဲ့တဲ့

for the keyboard.

လက်ရာတွေကို တွေ့မိတယ်။

Well, I was surprised. I did not know this.

အင်း ကျွန်မအံ့ဩသွားတာပေါ့။ ဒါကိုကျွန်မ မသိခဲ့ဘူးကိုး။

So I downloaded the sheet music and started playing.

ဒီတော့ ဂီတသင်္ကေတတွေကို ကူးချလိုက်ပြီး စတီးခဲ့ပါတယ်

And what happened next was

နောက်ဆက်တွဲ ဖြစ်လာတာကတော့

that I entered this state of pure,

ဒီဖြူစင်ပြီး အဂတိတရားကင်းတဲ့ အံ့ဩဖွယ်ရာ

unprejudiced amazement.

အနေအထားကို ရောက်သွားခဲ့တယ်။

It was an experience

ဒါဟာ ဂီတရဲ့ လုံးဝထူးကဲခြင်းထဲမှာ အကြွင်းမဲ့

of being totally in awe of the music,

နစ်မြုပ်စိမ့်ဝင်သွားခြင်းရဲ့ တွေ့ကြုံခံစားမှု တစ်ခုပါ

and I had not felt that in a long time.

ဒါကို မခံစားခဲ့ရတာ ကြာခဲ့ပါပြီ။

It might be easier to relate to this when you hear it.

ဒါကိုကြားထားရမှ ပြန်ပြောပြရတာ လွယ်လိမ့်မလားပဲ။

The first piece that I played through

ကျွန်မ တောက်လျောက် တီးခတ်ခဲ့တဲ့ ပထမဆုံးတေးသွားက

started like this.

Well this sounds very melancholic, doesn't it?

ကဲ ဒီအသံတွေကတော့ အရမ်းကို လွမ်းဆွေးစရာကြီး ဖြစ်နေတယ်မို့လား။

And I turned the page and what came next

ဒီစာမျက်နှာကို လှန်လိုက်တော့ နောက်လာတာက

was this.

ဒါပါ။

Well, this sounds very energetic, doesn't it?

ကဲ ဒီအသံကျတော့ အရမ်း တက်ကြွေနေတယ်မို့လား။

So within a couple of minutes,

ဒါကြောင့် တစ်မိနစ် နှစ်မိနစ်အတွင်းမှာ၊

and the piece isn't even finished yet,

တေးသွားက ဆုံးတောင်မဆုံးသေးဘူး၊

I experienced two very contrasting characters:

အရမ်းကို ဆန့်ကျင်နေတဲ့ လက္ခဏာနှစ်ရပ်ကို ကြုံလိုက်ရပါတယ်၊

beautiful melancholy and sheer energy.

လှပတဲ့လွမ်းဆွေးခြင်းနဲ့ စွမ်းအင်ချည်းသက်သက်လေ။

And I consider these two elements to be

ဒီအခြေခံ သဘောတရားနှစ်ခုဟာ လူသားရဲ့အဓိက

vital human expressions.

ခံစားချက်တွေလို့ ယူဆမိပါတယ်။

And the purity of the music makes you hear it

ပြီးတော့ ဂီတရဲ့ စင်ကြယ်မှုဟာ လူတွေကို

very effectively.

အရမ်းထိထိမိမိကို ကြားမိလာစေပါတယ်။

I've given a lot of children's concerts

ရ နှစ် ၈ နှစ်ကလေးတွေအတွက် ကလေးဂီတ

for children of seven and eight years old,

ဖျော်ဖြေပွဲတွေ အများကြီးလုပ်ဖူးပါတယ်။

and whatever I play, whether it's Bach, Beethoven,

ကျွန်မ ဘာပဲတီးတီး Bach၊ Beethoven၊

even Stockhausen,

နောက် Stockhausen ဒါမှမဟုတ်

or some jazzy music,

ဂျမ်ဆန်ဆန် ဂီတမျိုးတောင်မှပဲပေါ့။

they are open to hear it,

သူတို့တွေ လိုလိုလားလား နားဆင်ကြတယ်။

really willing to listen,

တကယ့်ကိုနှစ်နှစ်ကာကာ နားဆင်ချင်ကြတာပါ။

and they are comfortable doing so.

And when classes come in

နောက် အသက်နည်းနည်းကြီးလာ​တဲ့

with children who are just a few years older,

၁၁၊ ၁၂ နှစ် ကလေးတွေကျတော့

11, 12, I felt that I sometimes already had trouble

ဒီလိုမျိုးနဲ့ သူတို့ဆီကို ရောက်ဖို့ဟာ

in reaching them like that.

တစ်ခါတစ်လေတော့ မလွယ်လှဘူးလို့ ခံစားမိတယ်။

The complexity of the music does become an issue,

ဂီတရဲ့ခက်ခဲနက်နဲမှုဟာ အကြောင်းတစ်ရပ်ဖြစ်လာပြီး၊

and actually the opinions of others —

တကယ်တော့ အခြားသူတွေရဲ့အမြင်တွေပေါ့၊

parents, friends, media — they start to count.

မိဘ သူငယ်ချင်း၊ မီဒီယာစတာတွေကို စထည့်တွက်လာကြတယ်။

But the young ones, they don't question

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကလေးတွေကတော့ သူတို့အမြင်ကို

their own opinion.

စစ်ကြောမေးမြန်းမနေပါဘူး။

They are in this constant state of wonder,

ဒီရင်သပ်ရှုမောမှုဖွယ် အနေအထားမှာပဲ အမြဲတမ်းရှိနေတာဖြစ်ပြီး

and I do firmly believe that we can keep listening

ကျွန်မတို့ဟာ အသက်ကြီးလာတာတောင်မှ

like these seven-year-old children,

ဒီ ၇ နှစ်သားကလေးတွေလိုပဲ ဆက်ပြီး နားထောင်နိူင်တယ်ဆိုတာ

even when growing up.

အခိုင်အမာယုံကြည်တယ်။

And that is why I have played

ဒါကြောင့်ပဲ ကျွန်မဟာ

not only in the concert hall

ဂီတခန်းမကြီးတွေမှာတင် မကပဲ

but also on the street, online, in the air:

လမ်းတွေပေါ်မှာ၊ အွန်လိုင်းမှာ၊ လေထုထဲမှာ တီးခတ်ထားတာပါ၊

to feel that state of wonder,

အံ့ဩဖွယ်အနေအထားမှာ ခံစားနိုင်ဖို့၊

to truly listen,

အစစ်အမှန်နားဆင်ဖို့၊

and to listen without prejudice.

ဘယ်သူကိုမှ ဖက်မလိုက်ပဲ နားဆင်ဖို့ပါ။

And I would like to invite you

အားလုံးကိုလည်း ဒီလိုလုပ်ကြဖို့အခု

to do so now.
