Recently, I flew over a crowd

最近 私はブラジルの大聴衆の上空で

of thousands of people in Brazil

ゲオルク・フリードリヒ・ヘンデルの

playing music by George Frideric Handel.

音楽を演奏しました

I also drove along the streets of Amsterdam,

又 アムステルダムの街を車で走りながら

again playing music by this same composer.

再び同じ作曲家の音楽を演奏しました

Daria van den Bercken: All this was a real

これは全て 様々な理由から行う

magical experience for hundreds of reasons.

本物の魅惑的な体験です

Now you may ask, why have I done these things?

何故そんなことをしているのかと聞かれるかもしれません

They're not really typical for a musician's

音楽家の日常生活の典型とは

day-to-day life.

あまり言えませんからね

Well, I did it because I fell in love with the music

そうですね それは音楽に恋をしたからです

and I wanted to share it with as many people

そしてその音楽を出来るだけ多くの人たちと

as possible.

分かち合いたかったからです

It started a couple of years ago.

これは２，３年前に始めました

I was sitting at home on the couch with the flu

インフルエンザで家の中にいて ソファーに座っていました

and browsing the Internet a little,

少しインターネットを見ていると

when I found out that Handel had written works

そこでヘンデルが鍵盤のための作品を

for the keyboard.

書いていたことに気づいたのです

Well, I was surprised. I did not know this.

そうです 驚きました そのことを知りませんでしたからね

So I downloaded the sheet music and started playing.

そこで譜面をダウンロードして演奏を始めました

And what happened next was

次に 私は純粋で先入観のない

that I entered this state of pure,

unprejudiced amazement.

驚愕の状態に入ったのです

It was an experience

それは音楽に対して

of being totally in awe of the music,

完全に畏れを抱いた状態で

and I had not felt that in a long time.

しばらく感じたことのなかった経験でした

It might be easier to relate to this when you hear it.

これを聴いてみると想像がつき易いかもしれません

The first piece that I played through

私が弾いた楽曲の最初の部分は

started like this.

こんな風に始まります

Well this sounds very melancholic, doesn't it?

とてもメランコリックな響きですよね

And I turned the page and what came next

そうやってページをめくると次は

was this.

こんな感じです

Well, this sounds very energetic, doesn't it?

とてもエネルギッシュですよね

So within a couple of minutes,

数分の間で

and the piece isn't even finished yet,

楽曲がまだ終わらない内に

I experienced two very contrasting characters:

二つのとても対照的な特徴を経験しました

beautiful melancholy and sheer energy.

つまり美しいメランコリーと純然たるエネルギー

And I consider these two elements to be

それら二つの要素は極めて重要な

vital human expressions.

人間の表情だと思います

And the purity of the music makes you hear it

そして音楽の清らかさのお蔭で

very effectively.

とても効果的に聴こえてくるのです

I've given a lot of children's concerts

７、８歳の子供のコンサートを沢山催してきました

for children of seven and eight years old,

and whatever I play, whether it's Bach, Beethoven,

バッハやベートーヴェンたとえ シュトックハウゼンであっても

even Stockhausen,

ジャズであったとしても

or some jazzy music,

私がピアノを弾く度に

they are open to hear it,

子供たちはそれに耳を傾ようと心を開きます

really willing to listen,

心から聴こうとするのです

and they are comfortable doing so.

彼らはそうするのが心地良いのです

And when classes come in

わずか数歳年上の

with children who are just a few years older,

11,12歳の子供たちがクラスにやってくると

11, 12, I felt that I sometimes already had trouble

その子たちはそこまで辿り着く事が

in reaching them like that.

もう 難しくなっているなと感じる事があります

The complexity of the music does become an issue,

音楽の複雑さが確かに問題になるのですが

and actually the opinions of others —

実際には 他人の意見つまり

parents, friends, media — they start to count.

親や友達　メディア等の意見が 影響を持ち始めるのです

But the young ones, they don't question

しかし幼い子供たちは

their own opinion.

自分自身の意見を疑いません

They are in this constant state of wonder,

彼らは常に驚異の状態にあります

and I do firmly believe that we can keep listening

たとえ大人になっても この７歳児のように

like these seven-year-old children,

音楽を聴き続けられると

even when growing up.

私は固く信じています

And that is why I have played

だから私は

not only in the concert hall

コンサートホールだけでなく

but also on the street, online, in the air:

路上やオンライン 空中でコンサートをするのです

to feel that state of wonder,

驚異の状態を感じる為です

to truly listen,

真に耳を澄ます為です

and to listen without prejudice.

そして音楽を先入観を持たずに聴く為です

And I would like to invite you

今から皆さんを
