چی دەکەم

I will not dance to your war drum.

سه‌ما ناکه‌م بۆ ته‌پڵی شه‌ڕه‌که‌ت

I will not lend my soul nor my bones to your war drum.

ڕۆح و ئێسکه‌کانم به‌ ته‌پڵی شه‌ڕه‌که‌ی تۆ ناسپێرم

I will not dance to that beating.

سه‌ما بۆ ئه‌و لێدانه‌ ناکه‌م

I know that beat.

ئه‌و لێدانه‌ ده‌ناسم

It is lifeless.

ئه‌وه‌ بێگیانه‌

I know intimately that skin you are hitting.

به‌هۆگرانه‌ ئه‌و پێسته‌ ده‌ناسم که‌تۆ لێده‌ده‌یت

It was alive once,

پێشترله‌ژیاندا بووه‌

hunted, stolen,

ڕاوکراوه‌، دزراوه‌

stretched.

کشاوه‌، درێژکراوه‌

I will not dance to your drummed-up war.

سه‌ما بۆ لێدانی ته‌پڵی شه‌ڕی تۆ ناکه‌م

I will not pop, spin, break for you.

من ناته‌قمه‌وه‌، نایسوڕێنم، نایشکێنم بۆ تۆ

I will not hate for you

ڕق هه‌ڵناگرم بۆ تۆ

or even hate you.

یان هه‌تا ڕق له‌ تۆ هه‌ڵبگرم

I will not kill for you.

که‌س ناکوژم بۆ تۆ

Especially I will not die for you.

به‌تایبه‌تی خۆم ناده‌م به‌کوشت بۆ تۆ

I will not mourn the dead with murder nor suicide.

جلی ڕه‌ش له‌به‌ر ناکه‌م بۆ مردوویه‌کی بکوژ یان خۆکوژ

I will not side with you or dance to bombs

من نایه‌مە ڕیزی تۆ یان سه‌ما بکه‌م بۆ بۆمبه‌کان

because everyone is dancing.

چونکه‌ که‌سانی تر سه‌ماده‌که‌ن

Everyone can be wrong.

هه‌رکه‌سێک ده‌گونجێ هه‌ڵه‌بێت

Life is a right, not collateral or casual.

ژیان ڕاستییه‌، نه‌ک ڕوداوێک یان ڕێکه‌وتنێک

I will not forget where I come from.

من ئه‌وه‌ له‌بیرناکه‌م له‌کوێ ده‌ژیم

I will craft my own drum.

من ئیش له‌سه‌ر ته‌پڵه‌که‌ی خۆم ده‌که‌م

Gather my beloved near,

که‌سه‌ نزیکه‌ خۆشه‌ویسته‌کانم کۆکرده‌وه‌

and our chanting will be dancing.

وه‌ گۆرانی وتنمان ده‌بێته‌ سه‌ماکردن

Our humming will be drumming.

مرۆڤایه‌تیمان ته‌پڵ لێدان ده‌بێت

I will not be played.

من، ته‌پڵ لێناده‌م

I will not lend my name nor my rhythm to your beat.

من ناوی خۆم و کێشی خۆم ڕاناسپێرم به‌ لێدانه‌کانت

I will dance and resist and dance and persist and dance.

سه‌ماده‌که‌م و به‌رگری ده‌که‌م و سه‌ماده‌که‌م و به‌رده‌وام ده‌بم و سه‌ما ده‌که‌م

This heartbeat is louder than death.

ئه‌م لێدانه‌ی دڵه‌ ده‌نگی زیاتره‌ له‌ مردن

Your war drum ain't louder

لێدانی ته‌پڵی شه‌ڕه‌که‌ت ده‌نگی به‌رزترینه‌

than this breath. Haaa.

له‌مردن، ها

What's up TED people? Let me hear you make some noise.

چی هه‌یه‌ که‌سانی (تێد) ؟ باگوێم له‌ده‌نگتان بێت

A bunch of pacifists.

که‌سانێکی زۆری ئاشتیخواز هه‌یه‌

Confused, aspiring pacifists.

سه‌ری لێتێک چووه‌، به‌هیوای که‌سانی ئاشتیخواز

I understand.

من تێده‌گه‌م

I've been wrong a lot lately.

به‌م کۆتاییانه‌ من زۆر هه‌ڵه‌ بووم

Like a lot.

So I couldn't figure out

له‌به‌رئه‌وه‌، ناتوانم ئه‌وه‌م بۆ ڕوون بێته‌وه‌

what to read today.

که‌ ئه‌مڕۆ چی بخوێنمه‌وه‌

I mean, I've been saying I've been prepping.

مه‌به‌ستم ئەوەیە، من ده‌ڵێنم ئیشی ماڵه‌وه‌مان هه‌یه‌

What that means is prepping my outfit,

مانای ئه‌وه‌یه‌ که‌ کاری ماڵه‌وه‌ له‌سه‌ر که‌ل و په‌له‌کان

prepping options,

هه‌ڵبژاردنێکی کاری ماڵه‌وه‌

trying to figure out what I'm coming behind

and going in front of.

له‌ پێشه‌وه‌ ده‌ڕۆم

Poetry does that.

It preps you. It aims you.

ئه‌وه‌ کاری ماڵه‌وه‌ت ده‌داتێ و ئاڕاسته‌ی تۆ ده‌کات

So I am going to read a poem

له‌به‌رئه‌وه‌، من هۆنراوه‌یه‌ک ده‌خوێنمه‌وه‌

that was chosen just now.

که‌ ئێستا هه‌ڵبژێردراوه‌

But I'm going to need you

به‌ڵام، من پێویستم به‌ ئێوه‌یه‌

to just sit for like 10 minutes

تا بۆ ته‌نها (١٠) خوله‌ک دابنیشن

and hold a woman who is not here.

وه‌ ئافره‌تێک ڕابگری که‌ لێره‌ نییه‌

Hold her now

ئه‌و ئافره‌ته‌ ئێستا ڕابگره‌

with you.

له‌گه‌ڵ خۆت دا

You don't need to say her name out loud, you can just hold her.

پێویست ناکات ناوی بهێنیت، ته‌نها بیگره‌

Are you holding her?

ئایا ئه‌وت گرتووه‌؟

All holy history banned.

هه‌موو مێژووه‌ پیرۆزه‌کان قه‌ده‌غه‌کراوه‌

Unwritten books predicted the future, projected the past.

کتێبه‌ نه‌نوسراوه‌کان پێشبینی داهاتووی کردووه‌، باسی ڕابردووی کردووه‌

But my head unwraps

به‌ڵام، سه‌رم نه‌پێچراوه‌

around what appears limitless,

به‌ده‌وری ئه‌و بێ سنورییه‌ی که‌ ده‌رکه‌وێت

man's creative violence.

مرۆڤ کێشه‌و توندوتیژی دروست ده‌کات

Whose son shall it be?

ئه‌وه‌ کوڕی لێ بێت؟

Which male child will perish a new day?

چ کوڕێک ڕۆژێکی تازه‌ له‌ناو ده‌بات؟

Our boys' deaths galvanize.

مردنی کوڕه‌کانمان داده‌پۆشین

We cherish corpses.

ئێمه‌ چاودێری لاشه‌کانیان ده‌که‌ین

We mourn women, complicated.

ئێمه‌ ئافره‌ت ڕه‌ش پۆش ده‌که‌ین

Bitches get beat daily.

سۆزانییه‌کان ڕۆژانه‌ لێدان ده‌خۆن

Profits made, prophets ignored.

قازانج ده‌کرێ، په‌یامبه‌ره‌کان پشت گوێ خراون

War and tooth, enameled salted lemon childhoods.

شه‌ڕ و ددان، سه‌رده‌می منداڵی ڕوکه‌ش ده‌کات به‌ لیمۆی خوێیاوی

All colors run, none of us solid.

هه‌موو ڕه‌نگه‌کان به‌کار ده‌خرێن، که‌س له‌ ئێمه‌ ڕه‌ق نیه‌

Don't look for shadow behind me. I carry it within.

ته‌ماشای سێبه‌ره‌که‌ی پشت من بکه‌، من هه‌ڵیده‌گرم

I live cycles of light and darkness.

من له‌ بازنه‌ی ڕوناکی و تاریکیدا ده‌ژیم

Rhythm is half silence.

کێش نیوه‌ی بێده‌نگییه‌

I see now, I never was one and not the other.

من ئێستا تێده‌گه‌م، من هه‌رگیز یه‌ک که‌س نه‌بووم، نه‌ک که‌سی تر

Sickness, health, tender violence.

نه‌خۆشی، ته‌ندروستی، ته‌نده‌ری توند و تیژی

I think now I never was pure.

وابزانم هه‌رگیز من پاک نه‌بووم

Before form I was storm,

یان هه‌تا ڕق له‌ تۆ هه‌ڵبگرم

blind, ign'ant -- still am.

کوێر، ئاگرین، بوم و هێشتا هه‌روام

Human contracted itself blind, malignant.

مرۆڤ خۆی کوشتووه‌، خۆی نه‌خۆش خستووه‌

I never was pure.

من هه‌رگیز پاک نه‌بووم

Girl spoiled before ripened.

کچان پێش پێگه‌یشتن خراپ ده‌بن

Language can't math me.

زمان ناتوانێ من تاقیبکاته‌وه‌

I experience exponentially.

من شاره‌زایی لێدانم هه‌یه‌

Everything is everything.

هه‌موو شتێک هه‌موو شتێکە

One woman loses 15, maybe 20, members of her family.

ئافره‌تێک (١٥) یان له‌وانه‌یه‌ (٢٠) ئه‌ندامی خێزانه‌که‌ی له‌ده‌ست ده‌دات

One woman loses six.

ئافره‌تێکی تر (٦) ئه‌ندامی خێزانی له‌ده‌ست ده‌دات

One woman loses her head.

ئافره‌تێکی تر سه‌ری خۆی له‌ده‌ست ده‌دات

One woman searches rubble. One woman feeds on trash.

ئافره‌تێک بۆ به‌ردی شکاو ده‌گه‌ڕێت، ئافره‌تێک له‌سه‌ر زبڵدانه‌کان ده‌ژی

One woman shoots her face. One woman shoots her husband.

ئافره‌تێک خۆی ده‌کوژێت، ئافره‌تیک مێرده‌که‌ی ده‌کوژیێت

One woman straps herself.

ئافره‌تێک خۆی ده‌به‌ستێته‌وه‌

One woman gives birth to a baby.

ئافره‌تێک منداڵی ده‌بێت

One woman gives birth to borders.

ئافره‌تێک ده‌گاته‌ سنوره‌کان

One woman no longer believes love will ever find her.

ئافره‌تێک ئیتر باوه‌ڕی به‌ خۆشه‌ویستی نامێنێت

One woman never did.

ئافره‌تێک هه‌رگیز هیچی نه‌کردووه‌

Where do refugee hearts go?

دڵی ئاواره‌کان بۆکوێ ده‌چێت؟

Broken, dissed,

شکاو، نه‌خۆش که‌وتووه‌

placed where they're not from, don't want to be missed.

ده‌خرێته‌ شوێنێک که‌ شوێنی خۆیان نییه‌، نایه‌وێت بیربکاته‌وه‌ خه‌فه‌ت بخوات

Faced with absence.

هه‌ست به‌ته‌نیایی ده‌کات

We mourn each one

ئێمه‌ یه‌کتر ڕه‌ش پۆش ده‌که‌ین

or we mean nothing at all.

یان مه‌به‌ستمان هیچ شتێک نابێت

My spine curves spiral.

بڕبڕه‌ی پشتم پێچی خواردووه‌

Precipice running to and running from human beings.

بارودۆخی خراپ هه‌ڵدێت و له‌مرۆڤه‌کان هه‌ڵدێت

Cluster bombs left behind.

کۆمه‌ڵێک بۆمب له‌ دوایدا به‌جێما

De facto landmines.

له‌ناو کانه‌ وشکانیه‌کان ڕوویانداوه‌

A smoldering grief.

په‌ژاره‌یه‌کی گڕگرتوو

Harvest contaminated tobacco.

کۆکردنه‌وه‌ (تۆباکۆ) پیس ده‌کات

Harvest bombs.

کۆکردنه‌وه‌ی بۆمبه‌کان

Harvest baby teeth.

کۆکردنه‌وه‌ی دوانی منداڵ

Harvest palms, smoke.

کۆکردنه‌وه‌ی له‌پی ده‌ست، دووکه‌ڵ

Harvest witness, smoke.

کۆکردنه‌وه‌ی شایه‌تحاڵ، دوکه‌ڵ

Resolutions, smoke.

چاره‌سه‌ره‌، دوکه‌ڵ

Salvation, smoke.

ڕزگارکردن، دوکه‌ڵ

Redemption, smoke.

گۆڕینه‌وه‌، دوکه‌ڵ

Breathe.

هه‌ناسه‌ بده‌

Do not fear

مه‌ترسه‌

what has blown up.

ئه‌وه‌ی ته‌قییه‌وه‌

If you must,

دەبێت تۆ

fear the unexploded.

بترسیت له‌ نه‌ته‌قاوه‌کان
