I was here four years ago,

And actually, Chris called me a week after I'd given my talk, and said,

So, this whole event has been an elaborate build-up

Al Gore spoke at the TED conference I spoke at four years ago

ಅಲ್ ಗೋರ್ ರವರು ನಾಲ್ಕು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ

and talked about the climate crisis.

So, as I was saying --

You see, he's right.

I mean, there is a major climate crisis, obviously,

and I think if people don't believe it, they should get out more.

But I believe there is a second climate crisis,

which is as severe,

which has the same origins,

and that we have to deal with with the same urgency.

ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಇದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ...

And you may say, by the way,

ನೀವೆನ್ನಬಹುದು " ನೋಡಿ, ಇರುವ ಒಂದು

"Look, I'm good.

ಹವಾಮಾನ ವಿಪತ್ತೇ ಸಾಕು.

I have one climate crisis, I don't really need the second one."

But this is a crisis of, not natural resources --

though I believe that's true --

but a crisis of human resources.

I believe fundamentally,

as many speakers have said during the past few days,

that we make very poor use of our talents.

ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.

Very many people go through their whole lives

ಅಸಂಖ್ಯಾತ ಮಂದಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಇಡೀ ಜೀವಮಾನವನ್ನು

having no real sense of what their talents may be,

ತಮಗೆ ಯಾವ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ ಇದೆಯೆಂಬುದನ್ನೇ ತಿಳಿಯದೆ

or if they have any to speak of.

ಅಥವಾ ಇದೆಯೋ ಇಲ್ಲವೋ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯದೆ ಇದ್ದುಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ನಾನು ನಾನಾ ರೀತಿಯ ಜನರನ್ನು ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತೇನೆ.

I meet all kinds of people

who don't think they're really good at anything.

ತಮಗೆ ಯಾವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವಿದೆಯೆಂದು ಅವರಿಗೇ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ

Actually, I kind of divide the world into two groups now.

ನಾನು ಸಾಧಾರಣವಾಗಿ ಜನರನ್ನು ಎರಡು ಗುಂಪುಗಳನ್ನಾಗಿ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

Jeremy Bentham, the great utilitarian philosopher,

once spiked this argument.

He said, "There are two types of people in this world:

"ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ರೀತಿಯ ಜನರಿದ್ದಾರೆ

those who divide the world into two types

ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ಎರಡು ಗುಂಪುಗಳನ್ನಾಗಿ ವಿಭಜಿಸುವವರು

and those who do not."

ಮತ್ತು ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡದೇ ಇರುವವರು"

(Laughter)

(ನಗು)

Well, I do.

ನಾನಂತೂ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.

I meet all kinds of people who don't enjoy what they do.

ನಾನು ಅನೇಕ ಬಗೆಯ ಜನರನ್ನು ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಅವರಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಖುಷಿಯೇ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

They simply go through their lives getting on with it.

They get no great pleasure from what they do.

They endure it rather than enjoy it,

and wait for the weekend.

But I also meet people

ಆದರೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುವವರನ್ನೂ

who love what they do and couldn't imagine doing anything else.

ನಾನು ಭೇಟಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಅದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ತಾವು ಬೇರೇನನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದನ್ನೂ ಅವರು ಊಹಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾರರು.

If you said, "Don't do this anymore,"

"ನೋಡಿ, ಇನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ಇದನ್ನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬೇಡಿ" ಎಂದರೆ, ನೀವು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಥವಾಗುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ

they'd wonder what you're talking about.

It isn't what they do, it's who they are.

It would be foolish to abandon this,

because it speaks to my most authentic self."

And it's not true of enough people.

In fact, on the contrary, I think it's still true of a minority of people.

And I think there are many possible explanations for it.

And high among them is education,

because education, in a way,

dislocates very many people from their natural talents.

And human resources are like natural resources;

they're often buried deep.

You have to go looking for them,

they're not just lying around on the surface.

You have to create the circumstances where they show themselves.

And you might imagine education would be the way that happens,

but too often, it's not.

Every education system in the world is being reformed at the moment

and it's not enough.

Reform is no use anymore,

because that's simply improving a broken model.

What we need --

and the word's been used many times in the past few days --

is not evolution,

but a revolution in education.

This has to be transformed into something else.

ಬೇರೊಂದನ್ನಾಗಿ.

One of the real challenges is to innovate fundamentally in education.

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ.

Innovation is hard,

because it means doing something that people don't find very easy,

It means challenging what we take for granted,

The great problem for reform or transformation

is the tyranny of common sense.

ಲೋಕ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಕಾಟ ;

ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಜನರು ಹೇಳುವಂತೆ

Things that people think,

"It can't be done differently, that's how it's done."

"ಇದನ್ನು ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಬೇರಾವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಇದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲಾಗದು."

ಅಬ್ರಾಹಂ ಲಿಂಕನ್ ರವರ ಈ ಉಕ್ತಿ ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದಿತು.

I came across a great quote recently from Abraham Lincoln,

who I thought you'd be pleased to have quoted at this point.

He said this in December 1862 to the second annual meeting of Congress.

"As our case is new,

ನಮ್ಮ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ ಹೊಸದಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ

so we must think anew and act anew.

ನಾವು ವಿನೂತನವಾಗಿ ಯೋಚಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ

ಹಾಗೂ ವಿನೂತನವಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ.

We must disenthrall ourselves,

ಮೋಹದಿಂದ ಹೊರಬಂದರೆ

and then we shall save our country."

ಆಗ ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ದೇಶವನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಬಹುದು.

I love that word, "disenthrall."

"ಮೋಹದಿಂದ ಹೊರಬರುವುದು" ಶಬ್ದ ನನಗೆ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಗೆಯಾಯ್ತು.

You know what it means?

ಇದರರ್ಥ ಏನೆಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಾಯಿತೇ?

That there are ideas that all of us are enthralled to,

ಕೆಲವು ವಿಚಾರಗಳು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಮೋಹಪರವಶಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತವೆ

which we simply take for granted as the natural order of things,

ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ಸುಖಾಸುಮ್ಮನೇ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡುಬಿಡುತ್ತೇವೆ.

ಅವು ಸಹಜ , ಅವು ಇರುವುದು ಹೀಗೇನೇ ಎಂದು.

the way things are.

And many of our ideas have been formed,

ನಮ್ಮ ಅನೇಕ ವಿಚಾರಗಳು

not to meet the circumstances of this century,

but to cope with the circumstances of previous centuries.

But our minds are still hypnotized by them,

ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಇನ್ನೂ ಸಮ್ಮೋಹನಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿರುವುದರಿಂದ

and we have to disenthrall ourselves of some of them.

Now, doing this is easier said than done.

It's very hard to know, by the way, what it is you take for granted.

And the reason is that you take it for granted.

ಕಾರಣವೇನೆಂದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನಿಸದೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡುಬಿಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ.

Let me ask you something you may take for granted.

How many of you here are over the age of 25?

Teenagers do not wear wristwatches.

ಹದಿಹರಯದವರು ಕೈ ಗಡಿಯಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

I don't mean they can't,

ಕಟ್ಟಲು ಆಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದಲ್ಲ ಅಥವಾ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅನುಮತಿ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದೂ ಅಲ್ಲ.

they just often choose not to.

ಸಾಧಾರಣವಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಕಟ್ಟುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

And the reason is we were brought up in a pre-digital culture,

ಕಾರಣವೇನೆಂದರೆ ನಾವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಯುಗಕ್ಕಿಂತ

ಹಿಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ಬೆಳೆದವರು.

those of us over 25.

And so for us, if you want to know the time,

ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ನಮಗೆ ಸಮಯ ತಿಳಿಯಬೇಕೆಂದರೆ

you have to wear something to tell it.

ಏನನ್ನಾದರೂ ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿರಬೇಕು.

Kids now live in a world which is digitized,

ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಈಗ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

and the time, for them, is everywhere.

ಮತ್ತು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಮಯವು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಡೆ ಕಾಣಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.

They see no reason to do this.

She doesn't see the point.

As she says,

ಅವಳೇ ಹೇಳುವಂತೆ " ಅದು ಒಂದೇ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಸಾಧನ"

"It's a single-function device."

(Laughter)

(ನಗು)

"Like, how lame is that?"

ಅಂದರೆ "ಇದೆಂಥ ಪೆಚ್ಚು ಸಾಧನ!"

And I say, "No, no, it tells the date as well."

ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ಹೇಳಿದೆ " ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ತಾರೀಖನ್ನೂ ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತೆ."

"It has multiple functions."

"ಅದು ಅನೇಕ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ."

But, you see, there are things we're enthralled to in education.

ನೋಡಿ. ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ಮೋಹಪರವಶವಾಗಿರುವ ಕೆಲವು ವಿಷಯಗಳಿವೆ.

ಒಂದೆರಡು ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಡಲೇ?

A couple of examples.

One of them is the idea of linearity:

ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ರೇಖಾತ್ಮ ಕ ಚಿಂತನೆ.

that it starts here and you go through a track

ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟು ಈ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋದರೆ

and if you do everything right,

ಮತ್ತು ಹೀಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದನ್ನೂ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ

you will end up set for the rest of your life.

ಜೀವನದುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ಸರಾಗವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Everybody who's spoken at TED has told us implicitly,

or sometimes explicitly, a different story:

that life is not linear; it's organic.

We create our lives symbiotically

as we explore our talents

in relation to the circumstances they help to create for us.

But, you know, we have become obsessed with this linear narrative.

And probably the pinnacle for education is getting you to college.

ಕಾಲೇಜಿಗೆ ಸೇರುವುದು.

I think we are obsessed with getting people to college.

ಜನರನ್ನು ಕಾಲೇಜಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿಸುವುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಮಗೆ ಅತೀವ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ

Certain sorts of college.

ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಕೆಲವು ತರಹದ ಕಾಲೇಜುಗಳು.

I don't mean you shouldn't go, but not everybody needs to go,

ನೀವು ಕಾಲೇಜಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಬಾರದು ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಹೋಗಬೇಕೆಂದಿಲ್ಲ.

Maybe they go later, not right away.

ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗಬಹುದು. ಈಗಲ್ಲ.

And I was up in San Francisco a while ago doing a book signing.

ನಾನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ದಿನಗಳ ಮೊದಲು ಸ್ಯಾನ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ಕೋನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೆ.

ಪುಸ್ತಕಕ್ಕೆ ಸಹಿ ಹಾಕಲು.

There was this guy buying a book, he was in his 30s.

I said, "What do you do?"

I asked, "How long have you been a fireman?"

ನಾನು ಕೇಳಿದೆ" ಎಷ್ಟು ದಿನದಿಂದ?"

"Always. I've always been a fireman."

"ಯಾವಾಗಲೂ . ನಾನು ಮೊದಲಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಅಗ್ನಿಶಾಮಕದಳದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೇನೆ."

"ಸರಿ. ಯಾವಾಗ ಈ ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಮಾಡಿದಿರಿ?"

"Well, when did you decide?" He said, "As a kid.

ಆತ ಹೇಳಿದ "ಬಾಲ್ಯದಲ್ಲೇ. ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅದು ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗೆ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.

Actually, it was a problem for me at school,

because at school, everybody wanted to be a fireman."

ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಶಾಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರೂ ಅಗ್ನಿಶಾಮಕದಳಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಲು ಬಯಸಿದ್ದರು.

(Laughter)

ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅಗ್ನಿಶಾಮಕ ದಳಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಬಯಸಿದ್ದೆ."

He said, "But I wanted to be a fireman."

ಆತ ಹೇಳಿದ " ನಾನು ಶಾಲೆಯ ಕೊನೆಯ ವರ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ

And he said, "When I got to the senior year of school,

my teachers didn't take it seriously.

ನನ್ನ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ನನ್ನ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

This one teacher didn't take it seriously.

ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಒಬ್ಬ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು

He said I was throwing my life away

ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ

if that's all I chose to do with it;

ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ನಿರರ್ಥಕಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದೇ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದರು."

that I should go to college, I should become a professional person,

"ನಾನು ಕಾಲೇಜಿಗೆ ಸೇರಬೇಕು, ವೃತ್ತಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕು

that I had great potential

ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನನಗೆ ತುಂಬ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎಂದೂ

and I was wasting my talent to do that."

ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯನ್ನು ಪೋಲು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದೂ ಭಾವಿಸಿದ್ದರು."

He said, "It was humiliating.

ಆತ ಹೇಳಿದ " ನನಗೆ ತುಂಬ ಅವಮಾನವಾಗಿತ್ತು.

It was in front of the whole class and I felt dreadful.

ಇದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಇಡೀ ತರಗತಿಯ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೇಳಿ ಮುಜುಗರ ಉಂಟುಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು."

But it's what I wanted, and as soon as I left school,

"ಆದರೆ ನನ್ನ ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಖಚಿತವಿತ್ತು. ಶಾಲೆ ಮುಗಿಸಿದ ನಂತರ ನಾನು

I applied to the fire service and I was accepted.

ಅಗ್ನಿಶಾಮಕ ದಳಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಜಿ ಹಾಕಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತು."

You know, I was thinking about that guy recently,

" ನಿಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತೇ? . ಕೆಲ ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ

just a few minutes ago when you were speaking, about this teacher,

ನಾನು ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೇ ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ - ನನ್ನ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ."

because six months ago, I saved his life."

ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಆರು ತಿಂಗಳ ಕೆಳಗೆ

ನಾನವರ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಉಳಿಸಿದೆ."

He said, "He was in a car wreck, and I pulled him out, gave him CPR,

and I saved his wife's life as well."

ಜತೆಗೆ ಅವರ ಪತ್ನಿಯ ಜೀವವನ್ನೂ ಉಳಿಸಿದೆ."

He said, "I think he thinks better of me now."

"ಈಗ ಅವರು ನನ್ನ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಉತ್ತಮ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ."

You know, to me,

ನೋಡಿ,ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ

human communities depend upon a diversity of talent,

ಮೇಲೆ ಅವಲಂಬಿತವಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ ಹೊರತು

not a singular conception of ability.

And at the heart of our challenges --

At the heart of the challenge

is to reconstitute our sense of ability and of intelligence.

This linearity thing is a problem.

When I arrived in L.A. about nine years ago,

I came across a policy statement --

very well-intentioned --

which said, "College begins in kindergarten."

No, it doesn't.

ಇಲ್ಲ. ಖಂಡಿತಾ ಇಲ್ಲ

It doesn't.

ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

If we had time, I could go into this, but we don't.

The other big issue is conformity.

We have built our education systems on the model of fast food.

ಫಾಸ್ಟ್ ಫುಡ್ ಮಾದರಿಯಿಂದ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

This is something Jamie Oliver talked about the other day.

ಜೇಮಿ ಆಲಿವರ್ ಮೊನ್ನೆ ಅದನ್ನೇ ಹೇಳಿದರು.

There are two models of quality assurance in catering.

ಆಹಾರದ ಗುಣಮಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಎರಡು ಮಾದರಿಗಳಿವೆ.

One is fast food, where everything is standardized.

The other is like Zagat and Michelin restaurants,

where everything is not standardized,

they're customized to local circumstances.

And we have sold ourselves into a fast-food model of education,

We have to recognize a couple of things here.

One is that human talent is tremendously diverse.

People have very different aptitudes.

I worked out recently that I was given a guitar as a kid

ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ನಾನು ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ.

ನನ್ನ ಕೈಗೆ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿ ಗಿಟಾರ್ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ್ದು

at about the same time that Eric Clapton got his first guitar.

ಸುಮಾರಾಗಿ ಎರಿಕ್ ಕ್ಲಾಪ್ಟನ್ ಕೈಗೆ ಅದು ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಾಗಲೇ.

It worked out for Eric, that's all I'm saying.

It just wouldn't work.

But it's not only about that.

It's about passion.

Often, people are good at things they don't really care for.

ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ , ಜನರಿಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವಿದ್ದರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

ಅದು ಆಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ್ದು

It's about passion,

and what excites our spirit and our energy.

ಹಾಗೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಚೇತನ ಮತ್ತು ಶಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದು ಪ್ರಚೋದನೆ ಕೊಡುವುದೋ ಅದು

And if you're doing the thing that you love to do, that you're good at,

time takes a different course entirely.

My wife's just finished writing a novel,

ನನ್ನ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಈಗತಾನೇ ಒಂದು ಕಾದಂಬರಿ ಬರೆದು ಮುಗಿಸಿದ್ದಾಳೆ.

and I think it's a great book,

ಹಾ! ಅದು ಅದ್ಭುತವಾಗಿದೆ.

but she disappears for hours on end.

ಆದರೆ ಅವಳು ಗಂಟೆಗಟ್ಟಲೆ ಕಣ್ಮರೆಯಾಗಿಬಿಡುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

You know this, if you're doing something you love,

ನಿಮಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರಬೇಕು. ನಿಮಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದುದನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಕುಳಿತರೆ

an hour feels like five minutes.

ಗಂಟೆಗಳು ನಿಮಿಷಗಳಂತೆ ತೋರುತ್ತವೆ.

If you're doing something that doesn't resonate with your spirit,

ಆದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಅಂತಃಚೇತನದ ಜತೆ ಅನುರಣನಗೊಳ್ಳದ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ

ಐದು ನಿಮಿಷವು ಒಂದು ಗಂಟೆಯಂತೆ ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

five minutes feels like an hour.

And the reason so many people are opting out of education

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಿಂದ ಅನೇಕ ಜನರು ಏಕೆ ಹೊರಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆಂದರೆ

is because it doesn't feed their spirit,

ಅದು ಅವರ ಅಂತಃಚೇತನಕ್ಕೆ ಅಥವಾ ಅವರ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಅಥವಾ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಗೆ

it doesn't feed their energy or their passion.

which is based on linearity and conformity and batching people.

ಜತೆಗೆ ಸಿದ್ಧಮಾದರಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಜನರನ್ನು ಗುಂಪುಗಳನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿ ನೋಡುವುದರಿಂದ

We have to move to a model

ಮಾದರಿಯ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುನ್ನಡೆಯಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ.

that is based more on principles of agriculture.

ನಾವು ಕೃಷಿಯ ತತ್ವಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಧರಿಸಿದ

We have to recognize

ಮಾನವರು ವಿಕಾಸ ಹೊಂದುವುದು

that human flourishing is not a mechanical process;

ಯಾಂತ್ರಿಕ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲ.

it's an organic process.

ಅದೊಂದು ಸಾವಯವ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆ.

And you cannot predict the outcome of human development.

ಮಾನವ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಯ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶವನ್ನು ನಾವು ನಿಖರವಾಗಿ ಊಹಿಸಲಾರೆವು.

ನಾವು ಇಷ್ಟನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ಒಬ್ಬ ರೈತನಂತೆ

All you can do, like a farmer, is create the conditions

under which they will begin to flourish.

So when we look at reforming education and transforming it,

it isn't like cloning a system.

There are great ones, like KIPP's; it's a great system.

It's about customizing to your circumstances

but with external support based on a personalized curriculum.

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸ ಚಳುವಳಿಯನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸುವುದು.

Now in this room,

ಈಗ ಈ ಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲೇ

there are people who represent extraordinary resources in business,

ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ, ಬಹುಮಾಧ್ಯಮ , ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲದ

ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳನ್ನು

in multimedia, in the Internet.

ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಸುವ ಜನರಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

These technologies,

ಈ ತಂತ್ರ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಜತೆ

combined with the extraordinary talents of teachers,

ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರ ಅಸಾಧಾರಣ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯೂ ಸೇರಿದರೆ

provide an opportunity to revolutionize education.

ಶಿಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕ್ರಾಂತಿ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು.

And I urge you to get involved in it

ನೀವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗಿಯಾಗಬೇಕೆಂದು ನಾನು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅದು ನಮಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಮುಖ್ಯವಲ್ಲ.

because it's vital, not just to ourselves, but to the future of our children.

But we have to change from the industrial model

to an agricultural model,

That's where children experience life.

Or at home, if that's what they choose,

ಅಥವಾ ಅದು ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರಬಹುದು - ಅವರ

to be educated with their families or friends.

I wanted to read you a quick, very short poem

W.B. ಯೇಟ್ಸ್ - ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲನೇಕರಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರಬಹುದು

from W. B. Yeats, who some of you may know.

- ನನಗೆ ಅವರ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಕವನವೊಂದನ್ನು ಓದಬೇಕೆನಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.

He wrote this to his love, Maud Gonne,

and he was bewailing the fact
