I'm really grateful that I get a chance to play for everyone.

And the song that I just played was by Josef Hofmann.

والمعزوفة التي عزفتها هي ل " جوزيف هوفمان "

It's called "Kaleidoscope."

وتدعى " كاليدو سكوب "

And Hofmann is a Polish pianist and composer of the late 19th century,

و " هوفمان " هو عازف بيانو بولندي من أواخر القرن التاسع عشر وهو مؤلفٌ ايضاً

ويُعتبر على نحو واسع من أعظم عازفي البيانو على مدى التاريخ

and he's widely considered one of the greatest pianists of all time.

I have another piece that I'd like to play for you.

ولدي معزوفة أُخرى أريد أن أعزفها لكم

It's called "Abegg Variations," by Robert Schumann,

تدعي " أبيج فاريشون " و هي للعازف " روبرت شامان "

a German 19th-century composer.

وهو مؤلف موسيقى ألماني من القرن التاسع عشر

The name "Abegg" is actually A-B-E-G-G,

وأسم " أبيج " جاء فعلا من النوتة " أ - ب - ي -ج - ج "

and that's the main theme in the melody.

وقد جاء موضوع المعزوفة " أبيج " الاساسي

(Plays the notes A, B, E, G and G)

That comes from the last name of one of Schumann's female friends.

جاء من إسم عائلة إحدى صديقات شامان

(Laughter)

But he wrote that for his wife.

ولكنه كتبها لزوجته

(Laughter)

So actually, if you listen carefully,

وفعلاً إذا إستمعتم جيداً لهذه المعزوفة

there are supposed to be five variations on this Abegg theme.

ويُعتقد أن هنالك خمس إختلافات في هذا الموضوع

It's written around 1834,

وقد كتبت هذه المعزوفة في عام 1834 ويعتقد أنها أقدم من ذلك

so even though it's old, I hope you'll like it.

Well, because Mr. Anderson told me

that this session is called "Sync and Flow,"

I was wondering, "What do I know that these geniuses don't?"

" مالذي أعرفه ولا يعرفه هؤلاء العباقرة ؟ "

So, I'll talk about musical composition,

even though I don't know where to start.

رغم أنني لا أعرف من أين أبدأ

How do I compose?

كيف أقوم بتأليف الموسيقى ؟

I think Yamaha does a really good job of teaching us how to compose.

أعتقد أن " ياماها " قد قام بعمل جيد جداً بتعليمنا كيفية التأليف

What I do first is, I make a lot of little musical ideas

مالذي أفعله أولاً ؟ , أنا أصنع الكثير من الأفكار الموسيقية الصغيرة

you can just improvise here at the piano --

والتي يمكن إرتجالها على البيانو هنا

and I choose one of those to become my main theme, my main melody,

ومن ثم أختار إحداها لكي تكون العنوان الرئيسي لمعزوفتي ..

مثل " أبيغ " التي سمعتموها من قبل

like the Abegg that you just heard.

And once I choose my main theme, I have to decide:

وبمجرد إختياري للنمط الرئيسي عليّ أن أقرر

Out of all the styles in music, what kind of style do I want?

يوجد العديد من أنماط الموسيقى , فأي الأنماط أريد ؟

And this year, I composed a Romantic style.

في هذه السنة ألفت على موسيقى على النمط الرومانسي

So for inspiration, I listened to Liszt and Tchaikovsky

لذا .. وللإلهام فإني أستمع ل " ليسزت " و " تشايكوفيسكي "

and all the great Romantic composers.

وكل المؤلفين العظام للموسيقى الرومانسية

Next, I make the structure of the entire piece with my teachers.

ومن ثم أقوم بعمل بناء للمقطوعة الموسيقة مع مُعلميَّ

They help me plan out the whole piece.

فهم يساعدوني لكي أخطط للمقطوعة كَكُل

And then the hard part is filling it in with musical ideas,

ومن ثم يأتي الجزء الأصعب وهو ملىء هذا البناء العام بالأفكار الموسيقية

because then you have to think.

لان هذا يتطلب من التفكير

(Laughter)

And then, when the piece takes somewhat of a solified form --

ومن ثم عندما تأخذ المقطوعة بنية مت..

solidified, excuse me -- solidified form,

عفواً ...بنية متماسكة .

you're supposed to actually polish the piece, polish the details,

فيتوجب عليك أن تقوم بتلميع هذه المقطوعة وتفاصيلها

and then polish the overall performance of the composition.

ومن ثم تلميع الأداء النهائي لهذا التأليف

And another thing that I enjoy doing is drawing.

كما أني أستمتع بالقيام بشيء آخر , أنا أستمتع بالرسم

Drawing, because I like to draw, you know, Japanese anime art.

الرسم , لأنني أُحب رسم الرسوم الكرتونية اليابانية

I think that's a craze among teens right now.

وأعتقد أنه الشيء الجنوني الذي يقوم به المراهقون اليوم

وقد أدركت يوماً

And once I realized it,

there's a parallel between creating music and creating art,

أن هناك تشابه بين تكوين الموسيقى وتكوين الرسوم

because for your motive, or your little initial idea for your drawing,

لان محرك فكرة الرسم أو فكرتك الأولية للرسم الذي تريد رسمه

هي الشخصية الكرتونية التي تقرر أن ترسم

it's your character -- you want to decide who you want to draw,

or if you want to draw an original character.

أو إن كنت تريد أن ترسم شخصية حقيقة

And then you want to decide: How are you going to draw the character?

ومن ثم عليك أن تقرر كيف سترسم هذه الشخصية

Like, am I going to use one page? Am I going to draw it on the computer?

فهل سوف أستخدم صفحة واحدة ؟

هل سوف أرسمها على الكمبيوتر

هل سوف أستخدم صفحتين منفصلتين كما في قصص الرسوم

Am I going to use a two-page spread like a comic book?

For a more grandiose effect, I guess.

لكي نحصل على تأثير مُضخم كما أعتقد ؟

And then you have to do the initial sketch of the character,

ومن ثم عليك أن ترسم رسمة مبدئية لتلك الشخصية

which is like your structure of a piece,

والتي تشابه بناء المعزوفة الموسيقية

and then you add pen and pencil, and whatever details that you need --

ومن ثم تضيف بقلمك الرصاص أو قلم الحبر التفاصيل التي تريد

that's polishing the drawing.

ومن ثم تلمع الرسم.

And another thing that both of these have in common is your state of mind,

وهنالك شيء آخر مشترك بين الموسيقى والرسم

وهو حالتك الذهنية لانه إن لم تكن ..

because I know I'm one of those teenagers that are really easily distracted.

أنا واحدة من المراهقين الذين يتشتت فكرهم بسهولة

So if I'm trying to do homework and I don't feel like it,

فإذا كنت أقوم بواجبي المنزلي

وإذا كنت فعلاً أُحاول القيام بذلك ولكني لا أرغب بذلك

I'll try to draw or, you know, waste my time.

سوف أحاول أن أرسم أي أهدر وقتي كما تعلمون .

And then what happens is, sometimes I absolutely can't draw

ومن ثم الذي يحدث أنني أحيانا لا أستطيع الرسم على الإطلاق

or I can't compose at all,

and then it's like there's too much on your mind.

You can't focus on what you're supposed to do.

And sometimes, if you manage to use your time wisely and work on it,

you'll get something out of it, but it doesn't come naturally.

سوف تحصل على نتائج جيدة .. ولكن هذا لايأتي بصورة تلقائية

What happens is, if something magical happens,

إن الذي يحدث هو .. إذا حدث شيءٌ سحري

if something natural happens to you,

إذا حدث شيءٌ طبيعي لك ..

you're able to produce all this beautiful stuff instantly,

سوف تكون قادراً على إخراج كل الأمور الرائعة على الفور

and then that's what I consider "flow,"

because that's when everything clicks and you're able to do anything.

لانه عندما يعمل كل شيء ستكون قادراً على القيام بكل شيء

You feel like you're on top of your game and you can do anything you want.

وستشعر أنك على القمة في مجالك

وسوف تتمكن من القيام بأي شيء تريد

I'm not going to play my own composition today because,

although I did finish it, it's way too long.

Instead, I'd like to try something called "improvisation."

I have here seven note cards,

and then I can make it into some sort of melody,
