ตอนผมอายุ 14

When I was 14 years old,

I had low self-esteem.

ผมไม่ค่อยมั่นใจตัวเองเท่าไหร่

I felt I was not talented at anything.

ผมรู้สึกว่าตัวเองไม่มีพรสวรรค์เลย

One day, I bought a yo-yo.

มีอยู่วันนึง ผมซื้อโยโย่ม่าหนึ่งอัน

เดี๋ยวผมเล่นให้ดูครับ ว่าช่วงแรกๆ ผมเล่นออกมาได้แบบนี้

When I tried my first trick, it looked like this:

(Laughter)

I couldn't even do the simplest trick,

แรกๆ ท่าง่ายๆ ผมยังเล่นไม่ได้เลย

but it was very natural for me,

แต่ผมก็รู้สึกเฉยๆ ครับ

because I was not dextrous, and hated all sports.

เพราะผมไม่ใช่คนคล่องแคล่วเท่าไหร่ แถมยังเกลียดกีฬาทุกอย่างด้วย

But after one week of practicing,

แต่หลังจากฝึกไปหนึ่งสัปดาห์

my throws became more like this:

ผมเริ่มเหวี่ยงโยโย่ ได้แบบนี้

A bit better.

ดีขึ้นเล็กน้อยครับ

I thought, the yo-yo is something for me to be good at.

ผมเริ่มคิดว่า ผมน่าจะฝึกเล่นโยโย่ให้เก่งได้

For the first time in my life,

นี่เป็นครั้งแรกในชีวิต

I found my passion.

ที่ผมได้เจอสิ่งที่ผมรักที่จะทำ

I was spending all my time practicing.

ผมใช้เวลาทั้งหมดที่มีในการฝึกฝน

It took me hours and hours a day to build my skills up to the next level.

วันละหลายๆ ชั่วโมง

ทักษะการเล่นของผมค่อยๆ ขยับ ดีขึ้นเรื่อยๆ

และแล้ว หลังจากสี่ปีผ่านไป ตอนนั้นผมอายุ 18

And then, four years later, when I was 18 years old,

ผมได้ยืนบนเวทีแข่งขันโยโย่ระดับโลก

I was standing onstage at the World YoYo Contest.

And I won.

แล้วผมก็ชนะ

I was so excited.

ผมตื่นเต้นมาก คิดไปว่า "ผมทำได้แล้ว ผมเป็นฮีโร่แล้ว

"Yes, I did it! I became a hero.

I may get many sponsors, a lot of money,

ต้องมีสปอนเซอร์หลายแห่งสนใจ ทำได้เงินเยอะๆ

tons of interviews, and be on TV!" I thought.

มีคิวสัมภาษณ์ผมเต็มไปหมด และ ได้ออกทีวีด้วย" (หัวเราะ)

(Laughter)

But after coming back to Japan,

แต่.... เมื่อผมกลับถึงญี่ปุ่น

totally nothing changed in my life.

ชีวิตผม ไม่เห็นมีอะไรเปลี่ยนไปเลย

(Laughter)

ผมเริ่มตระหนักได้ว่า สังคมนี้ไม่ได้เห็นคุณค่าในสิ่งที่ผมรัก

I realized society didn't value my passion.

ผมจึงกลับไปเรียนต่อที่วิทยาลัย

So I went back to my college

and became a typical Japanese worker as a systems engineer.

และผันตัวเป็นพนักงานญึ่ปุ่นธรรมดาคนหนึ่ง

ผมทำงานเป็นวิศวกรระบบครับ

I felt my passion, heart and soul, had left my body.

ผมรู้สึกว่า สิ่งที่ผมรัก หัวใจและจิตวิญญาณ ได้ออกจากร่างผมไปแล้ว

I felt I was not alive anymore.

ผมไม่รู้สึกว่าตัวเองมีชีวิตชีวาอีกต่อไป

So I started to consider what I should do,

ผมเริ่มคิดอีกครั้งว่า ควรทำอะไร

and I thought, I wanted to make my performance better,

ผมมาคิดได้ว่า ผมอยากให้การแสดงของผมดีขึ้นกว่านี้

and to show onstage how spectacular the yo-yo could be

และผมอยากขึ้นเวทีโชว์ความอัศจรรย์ของโยโย่ให้ได้เห็นกัน

to change the public's image of the yo-yo.

ผมจะเปลี่ยนภาพพจน์ของโยโย่ในสายตาของคนทั่วไป

So I quit my company

ผมจึงลาออกจากบริษัท

และ ผันตัวเป็นนักแสดงอาชีพ

and started a career as a professional performer.

ผมเริ่มเรืยน บัลเล่ต์คลาสสิค เต้นแจ๊ส

I started to learn classic ballet, jazz dance, acrobatics and other things

เล่นกายกรรม และ อีกหลายอย่าง

to make my performance better.

เพื่อช่วยให้การแสดงของผม น่าดูยิ่งขึ้น

As a result of these efforts, and the help of many others,

ผลจากความพยายาม และ ความช่วยเหลือจากหลายๆ ท่าน

it happened.

ในที่สุดมันก็เกิดขึ้น

I won the World YoYo Contest again in the artistic performance division.

ผมชนะ การแข่งขันโยโย่ระดับโลก อีกครั้ง

ในประเภทการแสดงอิงศิลปะ

I passed an audition for Cirque Du Soleil.

ผมผ่านการคัดตัวเพื่อเข้าร่วมแสดงกับ Cirque du Soleil

Today, I am standing on the TED stage

วันนี้ ผมได้มายึนบนเวทีของ TED

with the yo-yo in front of you.

พร้อมกับ โยโย่ ต่อหน้าพวกคุณ

(Applause)

What I learned from the yo-yo is,

สิ่งที่ผมได้เรียนรู้จากโยโย่คือ

if I make enough effort with huge passion,

ถ้าเราใส่ความพยายามให้มากพอกับการทำในสิ่งที่เรารัก

there is no impossible.

ก็จะไม่มีอะไร ที่ทำไม่ได้

คุณจะยอมให้ผมแบ่งปันสิ่งที่ผมรักกับคุณ

through my performance?
