When I was 14 years old,

کاتێک ١٤ ساڵ بووم،

I had low self-esteem.

بەھایەکی کەمم ھەبوو.

I felt I was not talented at anything.

ھەستم دەکرد لە ھیچ شتێک بەھرەدار نیم.

One day, I bought a yo-yo.

ڕۆژێک، یۆیۆیەکم ھێنا.

When I tried my first trick, it looked like this:

کاتێک یەکەم فێڵم تاقیکردەوە، بەم شێوەیە دەرکەوت:

(Laughter)

(پێکەنین)

I couldn't even do the simplest trick,

تەنانەت نەمدەتوانی سادەترین فێڵ بکەم،

but it was very natural for me,

بەڵام زۆر ئاسایی بوو بۆ من،

because I was not dextrous, and hated all sports.

چونکە شارەزا نەبووم لە وەرزش، و ڕقیشم لە ھەموو یاریەک بوو.

But after one week of practicing,

بەڵام دوای یەک ھەفتە لە ڕاھێنان،

my throws became more like this:

ھاویشتنەکانم زیاتر لەمە دەچوون:

A bit better.

کەمێک باشتر.

I thought, the yo-yo is something for me to be good at.

پێموا بوو، یۆیۆ شتێکە بۆم کە دەبێت باشبم لێی.

For the first time in my life,

بۆ یەکەم جار لە ژیانم،

I found my passion.

تامەزرۆیەکەی خۆمم دۆزیەوە.

I was spending all my time practicing.

ھەموو کاتەکەم لە ڕاھێنان بەسەر دەبرد.

It took me hours and hours a day to build my skills up to the next level.

چەندین کات و کاتژمێری دەویست ڕۆژانە بۆ بەرز کردنەوەی تواناکانم بۆ ئاستێکی تر.

And then, four years later, when I was 18 years old,

و دوایی، چوار ساڵ دواتر، کاتێک ١٨ ساڵ بووم.

I was standing onstage at the World YoYo Contest.

لەسەر سەکۆی پێشبڕکێی یۆیۆی جیھانی وەستام.

And I won.

و بردمەوە.

I was so excited.

زۆر دڵخۆش بووم.

"Yes, I did it! I became a hero.

"بەڵێ، ئەنجاممدا! بووم بە پاڵەوان.

I may get many sponsors, a lot of money,

لەوانەیە زۆر سپۆنسەرم ھەبێت، پارەیەکی زۆر،

tons of interviews, and be on TV!" I thought.

گەلێک چاوپێکەوتن، دەرکەوتن لە تەلەڤزیۆن" .

(Laughter)

(پێکەنین)

But after coming back to Japan,

بەڵام دوای ھاتنەوە بۆ ژاپۆن،

totally nothing changed in my life.

ھیچ شتێک نەگۆڕا لە ژیانم.

(Laughter)

(پێکەنین)

I realized society didn't value my passion.

بەڵام پێم وایە کۆمەڵگە ڕێزیان بۆ ئەو ئیشە نەبوو.

So I went back to my college

بۆیە گەڕامەوە کۆلێژەکەم

and became a typical Japanese worker as a systems engineer.

‎و بوومە کارکەرێکی ئاسایی ‎ژاپۆنی وەکو ئەندازیارێک.

I felt my passion, heart and soul, had left my body.

‎ھەستم کرد بە سۆزداریەکەم، ‎دڵ و رۆحم، جەستەیان جێھێشتم.

I felt I was not alive anymore.

ھەستم کرد ھیچیتر زیندوو نیم.

So I started to consider what I should do,

بۆیە دەستم کرد بە بیر کردنەوە کە دەبێت چی بکەم،

and I thought, I wanted to make my performance better,

و بیرم کردەوە، دەمویست نمایشەکەم باشتر بکەم،

and to show onstage how spectacular the yo-yo could be

و لەسەر سەکۆ نیشانی بدەم یۆیۆی جوان چۆنە

to change the public's image of the yo-yo.

کە وێنەی گشتی یۆیۆکە بگۆڕێت.

So I quit my company

بۆیە وازم لە کارەکەم ھێنا

and started a career as a professional performer.

و دەستم کرد بە پیشەگەریم وەکو نوێنەرێکی بە ئەزموون.

I started to learn classic ballet, jazz dance, acrobatics and other things

دەستم کرد بە فێربوونی سەمای کلاسیکی، سەمای جاز، تەنافبازی و شتی تر

to make my performance better.

بۆ باشتر نیشاندانی نمایشەکەم.

As a result of these efforts, and the help of many others,

لە ئەنجامی ئەم کۆششانە، و یارمەتی زۆری تر،

it happened.

ئەمە ڕوویدا.

I won the World YoYo Contest again in the artistic performance division.

دووبارە پێشبڕکێی یۆیۆی جیھانیم بردەوە لە بەشی نمایشی ھونەری.

I passed an audition for Cirque Du Soleil.

وە تاقیکردنەوەکەم بڕی بۆ سيرك دو سوليه.

Today, I am standing on the TED stage

ئەمڕۆ، لەسەر سەکۆی TEDوەستاوم

with the yo-yo in front of you.

لەگەل یۆیۆ لەبەردەم ئێوە.

(Applause)

What I learned from the yo-yo is,

ئەوەی لە یۆیۆ فێر بووم ئەوەیە،

if I make enough effort with huge passion,

گەر کۆششێکی تەواو بکەم لەگەل حەزێکی زۆر،

there is no impossible.

ھیچ ئەستەم نییە.

Could you let me share my passion with you

تکایە ڕێگەم دەدەن حەزەکەم لەگەڵتان ھاوبەشی پێ بکەم

through my performance?
