Or just an airport security line delay.

That one's actually true.

If some of your perceptions were negative, I don't really blame you.

That's just how the media has been portraying

people who look like me.

One study found

အစ္စလမ် မွတ်စလင်နဲ့ ပတ်သတ်ပြီး

that 80 percent of news coverage about Islam and Muslims is negative.

သတင်းဖော်ပြချက် ၈၀ ရာခိုင်နှုန်းလောက်က အဆိုးတွေလို့ လေ့လာမှုတစ်ခုက တွေ့ထားတယ်။

And studies show that Americans say that most don't know a Muslim.

အမေရိကန် လူအများစုက မွတ်စလင်နဲ့ မခင်ဘူးလို့ လေ့လာမှုတစ်ချို့က ပြသထားတယ်။

I guess people don't talk to their Uber drivers.

Well, for those of you who have never met a Muslim,

ရှင်တို့ထဲက မွတ်စလင်ကို မမြင်ဖူးတဲ့ တစ်ချို့လူတွေအတွက်

it's great to meet you.

ရှင်တို့နဲ့ တွေ့ရတာ ဝမ်းသာပါတယ်။

Let me tell you who I am.

ကျမကိုယ် ကျမ မိတ်ဆက်ပါရစေ။

I'm a mom, a coffee lover --

ကျမကတော့ အမေ၊ ကော်ဖီချစ်သူ။

double espresso, cream on the side.

တစ်ဖက်က ခရင်မ်နဲ့ double espresso ကိုအသည်းစွဲ ။

လူအေးတစ်ယောက်၊

I'm an introvert.

ကျန်းမာရေးရူး တစ်ယောက်။

I'm a wannabe fitness fanatic.

ဘာသာရေး ကျင့်သုံးတဲ့ မွတ်စလင် တစ်ယောက်ပါ။

And I'm a practicing, spiritual Muslim.

But not like Lady Gaga says, because baby, I wasn't born this way.

ဒါပေမယ့် Lady Gaga ပြောသလို မဟုတ်ဘူး အကြောင်းက ကျမကို အဲလိုမွေးခဲ့တာ မဟုတ်လို့။

It was a choice.

အဲ့ဒါက ရွေးချယ်မှုတစ်ခု။

When I was 17, I decided to come out.

ကျမ ၁၇ နှစ်ရှိတော့ ကျမထွက်လာဖို့ ဆုံးဖြတ်လိုက်တယ်။

No, not as a gay person like some of my friends,

but as a Muslim,

and decided to start wearing the hijab, my head covering.

My feminist friends were aghast:

ကျမ သူငယ်ချင်းတွေ တအား အံ့သြကုန်တယ်။

"Why are you oppressing yourself?"

"မင်းကိုယ်မင်း ဘာလို့ဖိနှိပ်နေရတာလဲ။"ပေါ့။

The funny thing was,

ထူးဆန်းတာက

it was actually at that time a feminist declaration of independence

အဲ့အချိန်တုန်းက ၁၇နှစ် ကျမက မဖြစ်နိုင်တဲ့ ပြီးပြည့်စုံလွန်းတဲ့

from the pressure I felt as a 17-year-old,

အလှစံနှုန်းကနေ ကင်းကွာဖို့အတွက်

to conform to a perfect and unattainable standard of beauty.

I didn't just passively accept the faith of my parents.

ကျမ မိဘရဲ့ ဘာသာတရားကို ဒီတိုင်း လက်ခံခဲ့တာ မဟုတ်ဘူး။

I wrestled with the Quran.

ကုရ်အာန်ကျမ်းစာနဲ့ ရုန်းကန်ခဲ့ရတယ်။

I read and reflected and questioned and doubted

ဖတ်တယ်၊ သုံးသပ်တယ်၊ မေးခွန်းထုတ်တယ်၊ သံသယဖြစ်တယ်။

and, ultimately, believed.

နောက်ဆုံးတော့ ယုံကြည်လာပါတယ်။

My relationship with God -- it was not love at first sight.

ကျမနဲ့ ဘုရားသခင်ကြားက ဆက်နွယ်မှုက တွေ့တွေ့ချင်း ချစ်ခင်တာမျိုး မဟုတ်ဘူး။

It was a trust and a slow surrender

ကုရ်အာန်ဖတ်တိုင်း ပိုနက်နဲလာတဲ့ ယုံကြည်မှုတရားနဲ့

that deepened with every reading of the Quran.

ညင်သာတဲ့ အရှုံပေးမှုပါ။

Its rhythmic beauty sometimes moves me to tears.

I see myself in it. I feel that God knows me.

ကျမကို ဘုရားသခင်က သိတယ်လို့ ခံစားရတယ်။

ရှင်တို့ကို တစ်ယောက်ယောက်က ကောင်းကောင်းသိတယ် နားလည်တယ်။ ပြီးတော့

Have you ever felt like someone sees you, completely understands you

and yet loves you anyway?

ဘာဖြစ်ဖြစ် ချစ်တယ်လို့ ခံစားရဖူးလား။

That's how it feels.

အဲလိုမျိုးခံစားချက်ပေါ့။

And so later, I got married,

ဒါနဲ့ ကျမ အိမ်ထောင် ကျသွားတယ်။

and like all good Egyptians,

အီဂျစ်လူအားလုံးလိုပဲ

started my career as an engineer.

အင်ဂျင်နီယာလုပ်ငန်း စ ခဲ့တယ်လေ။

I later had a child, after getting married,

and I was living essentially the Egyptian-American dream.

And then that terrible morning of September, 2001.

I think a lot of you probably remember exactly where you were that morning.

I was sitting in my kitchen finishing breakfast,

မီးဖိုချောင်မှာထိုင်ပြီး မနက်စာ အဆုံးသတ်နေတယ်။

and I look up on the screen and see the words "Breaking News."

ဒါနဲ့ ကျမ တီဗွီကိုကြည့်လိုက်တော့ ကြားဖြတ် သတင်းလို့မြင်လိုက်တယ်။

မီးခိုးတွေ၊ လေယာဉ်ပျံတွေက အဆောက်အအုံကိုဝင်တိုက်၊

There was smoke, airplanes flying into buildings,

people jumping out of buildings.

လူတွေက အဆောက်အအုံထဲကနေ ခုန်ချကျ။

What was this?

ဘာလဲပေါ့။

An accident?

မတော်တဆလား။

A malfunction?

ချို့ယွင်းချက် တစ်ခုလား။

ကျမထိတ်လန့်ရာကနေ စိတ်ဆိုးလာတယ်။

My shock quickly turned to outrage.

Who would do this?

ဒါကို ဘယ်သူ လုပ်တာလဲပေါ့။

And I switch the channel and I hear,

လိုင်းပြောင်းလိုက်တော့ ကျမကြားလိုက်တယ်

"..မွတ်စလင် အကြမ်းဖက်သမား..."

"... Muslim terrorist ...,"

"... in the name of Islam ...,"

"...အစ္စလာမ်အတွက်.."

"... Middle-Eastern descent ...,"

"..အရှေ့အလယ်ပိုင်း မျိုးဆက်တွေ.."

"... jihad ...,"

"..ဂျီဟတ်.."

"... we should bomb Mecca."

"..Mecca ကို ဗုံးနဲ့ဆော်မယ်။.."

Oh my God.

ဘုရားရေ။

Not only had my country been attacked,

ကျမရဲ့ နိုင်ငံက အတိုက်အခိုက် ခံရရုံတင်မကဘူး

ချက်ချင်းဆိုသလို

but in a flash,

somebody else's actions had turned me from a citizen

လူတစ်ယောက် လုပ်ရပ်ကြောင့် ကျမက နိုင်ငံသား တစ်ယောက်ကနေ

to a suspect.

စွပ်စွဲခံ ဖြစ်လာခဲ့ပါတယ်။

အဲနေ့ပဲ ကျမတို့တွေ တခြားမြို့မှာ ကျောင်းစတတ်ဖို့

That same day, we had to drive across Middle America

to move to a new city to start grad school.

အလယ်အမေရိကကို ဖြတ်ပြီး မောင်းခဲ့ရတယ်။

And I remember sitting in the passenger seat

အဲတုန်းက ပထမဆုံးအကြိမ် ကျမကို မွတ်စလင်မှန်း

သိသွားမှာစိုးလို့ ကျမခုံလေးမှာ

as we drove in silence,

crouched as low as I could go in my seat,

ငုံ့နိုင်သမျှငုံ့ပြီ တိတ်တိတ်ဆိတ်ဆိတ်လေး

for the first time in my life, afraid for anyone to know I was a Muslim.

မောင်းနှင်းသွားရတာကို ပြန်မှတ်မိပါသေးတယ်။

We moved into our apartment that night in a new town

ညမိုးချုပ် မြို့အသစ်ကို ရောက်တော့ ကျမတို့ တိုက်ခန်းထဲ ရွှေ့လိုက်တယ်။

အဲဒါကတော့ ကျမတို့အတွက် လုံးဝ ကမ္ဘာအသစ်ကြီးလို့ပေါ့။

in what felt like a completely different world.

And then I was hearing and seeing and reading

ဒါနဲ့ မွတ်စလင် အသင်းအဖွဲ့ ဆီက သတိပေးချက်တွေ

warnings from national Muslim organizations

တဖြည်းဖြည်း ဖတ်ရ၊ ကြားရ၊ မြင်ရလာတယ်။

saying things like, "Be alert," "Be aware,"

"သတိထားကြ" "သတိရှိရှိနေ"

"Stay in well-lit areas," "Don't congregate."

"အလင်းရှိတဲ့ နေရာမှာနေ" "စုဝေးစုဝေး မလုပ်ကြနဲ့"ပေါ့။

I stayed inside all week.

တစ်ပတ်လုံး ကျမ အိမ်ထဲနေတယ်။

And then it was Friday that same week,

အဲ့အပတ် သောကြာနေ့မှာပဲ

the day that Muslims congregate for worship.

မွတ်စလင်တွေစုပြီး ဝတ်ပြုတဲ့နေပေါ့။

"အဲ့ပထမဆုံး သောကြာနေ့မှာ မသွားကြနဲ့ဦး အပစ်အမှတ် ထားခံရနိုင်တယ်"

And again the warnings were, "Don't go that first Friday,

it could be a target."

ဆိုတဲ့ သတိပေးချက်တွေ ကြားရပြန်တယ်။

And I was watching the news, wall-to-wall coverage.

ကျမက သတင်း အစုံအလင် ကြည့်နေတာ၊

Emotions were so raw, understandably,

ခံစားချက်တွေဆိုတာ ပြင်းထန်တယ်၊

ပြီးတော့ မွတ်စလင်တွေ အတိုက်အခိုက်ခံရတဲ့ အကြောင်း ဒါမှမဟုတ် လမ်းပေါ်မှာ

and I was also hearing about attacks on Muslims,

or people who were perceived to be Muslim, being pulled out

မွတ်စလင်လို့ထင်ရတဲ့ လူတွေကို ဆွဲထုတ်ပြီး ရိုက်တဲ့

and beaten in the street.

အကြောင်းတွေကိုလည်း ကြားရတယ်။

Mosques were actually firebombed.

ဗလီတွေကို မီးဗုံးနဲ့ပစ်ကြတယ်။

ကျမတို့တွေ အိမ်မှာနေဖို့ စဉ်းစားလိုက်တယ်။

And I thought, we should just stay home.

And yet, something didn't feel right.

ဒါပေမယ့်လည်း မဟုတ်သေးဘူလို့ ခံစားရတယ်။

Because those people who attacked our country

ဘာလို့ဆိုတော့ ဟိုလူတွေ

attacked our country.

ကျမတို့ နိုင်ငံကို တိုက်ခိုက်တယ်။

I get it that people were angry at the terrorists.

လူတွေ ဒီအကြမ်းဖက်သမားတွေကို စိတ်ဆိုးတာ နားလည်ပါတယ်။

Guess what? So was I.

ရှင်တို့ကော ဘာထင်လဲ ကျမလည်း စိတ်ဆိုးတယ်လေ။

And so to have to explain yourself all the time isn't easy.

ကိုယ့်ကိုကိုယ် အချိန်တိုင်း ရှင်းပြရတာ မလွယ်ဘူးလေ။

I don't mind questions. I love questions.

မေးခွန်းမေးလို့ စိတ်မဆိုးဘူး ကြိုက်တောင် ကြိုက်တယ်။

It's the accusations that are tough.

ခက်တာက စွပ်စွဲချက်တွေ။

Today we hear people actually saying things like,

ကနေ့ ကျမတို့တွေ လူတွေ ပြောပြောနေတာ ကြားနေရတယ်။

"There's a problem in this country, and it's called Muslims.

"ဒီနိုင်ငံမှာ ပြဿနာတစ်ခု ရှိနေတယ်။ အဲ့ဒါကတော့ မွတ်စလင်ပဲ။

တို့ သူတို့ကို ဘယ်အချိန် ရှင်းပစ်မလဲ။"

When are we going to get rid of them?"

So, some people want to ban Muslims and close down mosques.

ဒါနဲ့ လူတချို့က မွတ်စလင်တွေကို ပိတ်ပင်ချင်တယ် ဗလီတွေကို ပိတ်ချင်တယ်။

They talk about my community kind of like we're a tumor

သူတို့က ကျမတို့လူစုကို အမေရိကခန္ဓာရဲ့ အကျိတ်တစ်ခုလို့

in the body of America.

သဘောထားပြီး ပြောကြတယ်။

And the only question is, are we malignant or benign?

တခုတည်းသော မေးခွန်းက ကျမတို့က ဆိုးတဲ့ အကျိတ်လား၊ မဆိုးတဲ့ အကျိတ်လား။

You know, a malignant tumor you extract altogether,

ဆိုးတဲ့အကျိတ်ဆိုရင် ဖယ်ထုတ် ပစ်ရတယ်။

and a benign tumor you just keep under surveillance.

မဆိုးတဲ့အကျိတ်ဆိုရင် စောင့်ကြည့်တယ်။

The choices don't make sense, because it's the wrong question.

ဒီရွေးချယ်မှုတွေက အဓိပ္ပါယ်မရှိဘူး ဘာလို့ဆိုတော့ မေးခွန်းက မှားနေတာ။

Muslims, like all other Americans, aren't a tumor in the body of America,

အမေရိကခန္ဓာထဲမှာ တခြားအမေရိကန်တွေလိုပဲ မွတ်စလင်တွေက အကျိတ်မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

we're a vital organ.

အရေးကြီးတဲ့ အင်္ဂါတွေ။

Muslims are inventors and teachers,

first responders and Olympic athletes.

အရေးပေါ်တုံ့ပြန်သူတွေ၊ အိုလံပစ် အားကစားသမားတွေ ဖြစ်ကြတယ်။

Now, is closing down mosques going to make America safer?

အခု ဒီလို ဗလီတွေကို ပိတ်လိုက်လို့ အမေရိက ပိုလုံခြုံသွားမှာလား။

It might free up some parking spots,

ကားထားဖို့အတွက် နေရာရလိမ့်မယ်။

but it will not end terrorism.

Going to a mosque regularly is actually linked

to having more tolerant views of people of other faiths

people don't actually get radicalized at mosques.

They get radicalized in their basement or bedroom, in front of a computer.

And what you find about the radicalization process

is it starts online,

ဒါပေမယ့် ပထမဆုံး စ ဖြစ်တာက

but the first thing that happens

is the person gets cut off from their community,

လူတစ်ယောက်က သူရဲ့ လူစုကနေ ခွဲခွာခံရတယ်။

from even their family,

သူရဲ့ မိသားစုကနေကောပေါ့။

so that the extremist group can brainwash them

ဒါမှသာ အစွန်းရောက်တွေက သူတို့ကို အကြမ်းဖက်သမားတွေဟာ

စစ်မှန်တဲ့ မွတ်စလင်တွေဆိုတာရယ်၊ သူတို့ရဲ့ အယူအဆ အပြုအမှုတွေကို

into believing that they, the terrorists, are the true Muslims,

and everyone else who abhors their behavior and ideology

ရွံ့ရှာတဲ့လူတွေဟာ သစ္စာဖောက်တွေလို့ ယုံကြည်လာအောင်

are sellouts or apostates.

ဦးနှောက်ဆေးလို့ရမှာပါ။

So if we want to prevent radicalization,

ဒါကြောင့် ကျမတို့ ဒါမျိုးကို ကာကွယ်ချင်ရင်

we have to keep people going to the mosque.

လူတွေကို ဗလီဆက်သွားခွင့် ပေးရပါမယ်။

Now, some will still argue Islam is a violent religion.

အခု တချို့တွေက အစ္စလာမ်ဟာ အကြမ်းဖက်ဘာသာလို့ ပြောလိမ့်မယ်။

After all, a group like ISIS bases its brutality on the Quran.

ပြီးတော့ ISIS လို့ အဖွဲ့က သူ့တို့ရဲ့ အကြမ်းဖက်မှုကို ကုရ်အာန်ကို အခြေပြုထားတာ။

Now, as a Muslim, as a mother, as a human being,

မွတ်စလင်တစ်ယောက်၊ အမေတစ်ယောက် လူသားတစ်ယောက်အနေနဲ့

I think we need to do everything we can to stop a group like ISIS.

ISIS လို့အဖွဲ့ကို တားဖို့ တတ်နိုင်သမျှ ကြိုးစားရမယ်လို့ ထင်ပါတယ်။

But we would be giving in to their narrative

ဒါပေမယ့် ကျမတို့သာ သူတို့ကို လူပေါင်း ၁.၆ ဘီလျံရဲ့ ဘာသာတရားကိုကိုယ်စားပြုတယ်လို့

if we cast them as representatives of a faith of 1.6 billion people.

ISIS has as much to do with Islam

ISIS တွေက အစ္စလာမ်နဲ့ သက်ဆိုင်ပါတယ်။

Ku Klux Klan တွေက ခရစ်ယာန်နဲ့ သက်ဆိုင်သလိုပေါ့။

as the Ku Klux Klan has to do with Christianity.

Both groups claim to base their ideology on their holy book.

နှစ်ဖွဲ့စလုံးက သူတို့ရဲ့ သဘောတရားကို ကျမ်းစာမှာ အခြေခံတာလို့ ဆိုပါတယ်။

But when you look at them, they're not motivated

ဒါပေမယ့် ရှင် သူတို့ကို ကြည့်လိုက်ရင်၊ သူတို့ကကျမ်းစာထဲ

by what they read in their holy book.

လေ့လာပြီး ရလာတဲ့အရာကြောင့် လုပ်တာမဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

It's their brutality that makes them read these things into the scripture.

သူတို့ရဲ့ ကြမ်းကြုတ်မှုက ဒီလိုအရာတွေကို ကျမ်းစာမှာ ရှာဖွေစေတာပါ။

မကြာသေးခင်က imam တစ်ယောက်က ကျမကို အံ့အားသင့်စေတဲ့ အကြောင်းတစ်ခု ပြောပြတယ်။

Recently, a prominent imam told me a story that really took me aback.

He said that a girl came to him

ကောင်မလေး တယောက်သူ့ဆီ လာတယ်လို့ပြောတယ်။

because she was thinking of going to join ISIS.

ဘာလို့ဆိုတော့ ISIS အဖွဲ့ထဲဝင်မလို့ စဉ်းစားနေတာတဲ့။

And I was really surprised and asked him,

ကျမအံ့သြပြီး သူ့ကိုမေးလိုက်ပါတယ်။

had she been in contact with a radical religious leader?

သူမက အစွန်းရောက် ဘာသာရေး ခေါင်းဆောင်နဲ့ အဆက်အသွယ်ရှိနေလားပေါ့။

And he said the problem was quite the opposite,

ပြဿနာက ဆန့်ကျင်ဘက်လို့ သူပြန်ပြောပါတယ်။

that every cleric that she had talked to had shut her down

သူမ အကူအညီတောင်းခဲ့ဖူးတဲ့ ဘာသာရေး ခေါင်းဆောင်တွေက သူမကို ငြင်းဆန်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

and said that her rage, her sense of injustice in the world,

သူမရဲ့ ဒေါသ၊ ဒီကမ္ဘာရဲ့ မတရားမှုအပေါ် မကျေနပ်ချက်တွေက သူမကို

was just going to get her in trouble.

And so with nowhere to channel and make sense of this anger,

she was a prime target to be exploited

I've told you a little bit

about how Islamophobia affects me and my family.

But how does it impact ordinary Americans?

How does consuming fear 24 hours a day affect the health of our democracy,

Well, one study -- actually, several studies in neuroscience --

show that when we're afraid, at least three things happen.

We become more accepting of authoritarianism,

and policies that curtail the rights of American Muslims.

Now, this isn't just academic.

When you look at when anti-Muslim sentiment spiked

between 2001 and 2013,

it happened three times,

but it wasn't around terrorist attacks.

It was in the run up to the Iraq War and during two election cycles.

So Islamophobia isn't just the natural response to Muslim terrorism

as I would have expected.

It can actually be a tool of public manipulation,

eroding the very foundation of a free society,

which is rational and well-informed citizens.

but the toxic air of fear is harming us all.

isn't just about having to explain yourself all the time.

Deah and his wife Yusor were a young married couple

So bigotry isn't just immoral, it can even be lethal.

So, back to my story.

What happened after 9/11?

Did we go to the mosque or did we play it safe and stay home?

ကျမတို့ ဗလီသွားလား ဒါမှမဟုတ် အိမ်မှာပဲ နေနေလိုက်တာလား။

Well, we talked it over,

အဲ့အကြောင်း ကျမတို့ ဆွေးနွေးကြတယ်။

and it might seem like a small decision, but to us,

အရေးမကြီးဘူးလို့ ထင်ရပေမယ့် ကျမတို့အတွက်တော့ ဒါဟာ

ကျမတို့ကလေးအတွက်

it was about what kind of America we wanted to leave for our kids:

ဘယ်လို အမေရိကန်နိုင်ငံမျိုး ထားပေးခဲ့ချင်လဲ ဆိုတဲ့ဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်ပါ။

one that would control us by fear

ကျမတို့ကို အကြောက်တရားနဲ့ ထိန်းချုပ်တဲ့ နိုင်ငံမျိုးလား။

or one where we were practicing our religion freely.

ဘာသာတရား လွတ်လပ်စွာ ကိုးကွယ်နိုင်တဲ့ နိုင်ငံမျိုးလား။

So we decided to go to the mosque.

ဒါကြောင့် ဗလီတက်ဖို့ ဆုံးဖြတ်လိုက်တယ်။

And we put my son in his car seat,

ကျမသားကို ကားပေါ်တင်ပြီး ခါးပတ်ပတ်ပေး။

buckled him in, and we drove silently, intensely, to the mosque.

ပြီးတော့ ဗလီကို တိတ်တိတ်ဆိတ်ဆိတ် မောင်းသွားတယ်။

I took him out, I took off my shoes, I walked into the prayer hall

ကျမသားကို ကားထဲကနေထုတ်၊ ဖိနပ်ချွတ်၊ ပြီးတော့ တရားစာရွတ်ခန်းထဲ ဝင်သွားပါတယ်။

and what I saw made me stop.

အထဲရောက်တော့ ကျမအံ့သြသွားတယ်။

The place was completely full.

နေရာတစ်ခုလုံး လူပြည့်နေတယ်။

And then the imam made an announcement,

ဒါနဲ့ imam က ကြေငြာတယ်။

thanking and welcoming our guests,

ဧည့်သည်တွေကို ကြိုဆိုရင်း ကျေးဇူးတင်ရင်းနဲ့ပေါ့။

because half the congregation

လူတစ်ဝက်လောက်က

were Christians, Jews, Buddhists, atheists,

ခရစ်ယာန်တွေ၊ ဂျူးတွေ၊ ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာဝင်တွေ၊ ဘာသာမဲ့တွေ

people of faith and no faith,

ဘာသာကိုးကွယ်တဲ့ လူကော မကိုးကွယ်တဲ့ လူတွေကောပေါ့။

သူတို့က ကျမတို့ကို လာတိုက်ခိုက်တာ မဟုတ်ဘူး။ အတူတူ လာရပ်တည်ပေးတာ။

who had come not to attack us, but to stand in solidarity with us.

I just break down at this time.

These people were there because they chose courage and compassion

သတ္တိနဲ့ အကြင်နာတရားကို ရွေးချယ်လို့ ဒီနေရာကို ရောက်နေကြတာပါ။

over panic and prejudice.

What will you choose?

ရှင်တို့ဘာကို ရွေးချယ်မလဲ။

အကြောက်တရား၊ ဘက်လိုက်အမြင်တွေ စိုးမိုးနေတဲ့အခါ ဘာကိုရွေးချယ်မလဲ။

What will you choose at this time of fear and bigotry?

Will you play it safe?

ဖာသိဖာသာနေမလား။

Or will you join those who say

ဒါမှမဟုတ် အဲဒါထက်ပို ကောင်းရမယ်လို့ ပြောတဲ့လူတွေနဲ့

we are better than that?

I am as ordinary as they come.

When you look at Muslims around the world --

and I've done this, I've done the largest study ever done

on Muslims around the world --

ကမ္ဘာတစ်ဝန်းက မွတ်စလင်တွေကိုပေါ့။

people want ordinary things.

They want prosperity for their family,

they want jobs

and they want to live in peace.

အေးအေးချမ်းချမ်း နေချင်ကြတယ်။

So I am not in any way an exception.

ဒါကြောင့် ကျမက ဘယ်နည်းနဲ့မှ ခြွင်းချက်မဟုတ်ဘူး။

When you meet people who seem like an exception to the rule,

စည်းမျဉ်းတစ်ခုရဲ့ ခြွင်းချက်လို့ ထင်ရတဲ့ လူကို ရှင်မြင်ရင်

oftentimes it's that the rule is broken,

များသောအားဖြင့် စည်းမျဉ်းက ပျက်နေတာပါ၊

not that they're an exception to it.
