On August 12, 2020,

ဩဂုတ်လ ၁၂ ရက်နေ့။ ၂၀၂၀ ခုနှစ်။

two groups of girls went out to protest in Minsk,

Belarus ရဲ့မြို့တော် Minsk မှာရှိတဲ့ မိန်းကလေးအုပ်စု နှစ်စုဟာ

the capital city of Belarus.

ကန့်ကွက်ရန် အပြင်သို့ ထွက်လာခဲ့ကြတယ်။

They put on white clothes

အဖြူရောင် အဝတ်တွေကို ဝတ်ဆင်လျက်

and went barefoot out into the street.

ခြေဗလာနဲ့ လမ်းမပေါ်သို့ ထွက်လာခဲ့ကြတယ်။

In the morning,

မနက်ခင်းမှာ

some went to Komarovskiy Market in the center of town.

အချို့ဟာ မြို့လည်ကောင်ရှိ Komarovskiy Market ကို သွားခဲ့ကြတယ်။

Later that day,

အဲဒီနေ့ နှောင်းပိုင်းမှာ

the other group gathered with flowers

အခြားအဖွဲ့ဟာ ပန်းတွေနဲ့အတူ

at the eternal flame under the victory monument.

အောင်မြင်ခြင်းရုပ်တုအောက် eternal flameမှာ စုစည်းခဲ့ကြတယ်။

They stood together holding hands,

သူတို့ဟာ မတ်တပ်ရပ်လျက် အတူတကွ လက်တွဲကာ

and they started to sing the Belarusian lullaby,

Belarusian lullaby ကို စတင် သီဆိုလျက်

waiting for the police cars to arrive.

ရဲကားတွေ အလာကို စောင့်နေခဲ့ကြတယ်။

They knew the police would pick them up just like that:

ရဲတွေက သူတို့ကိူ ဒီလို ခ​ေါ်သွားမယ်ဆိုတာ သူတို့ သိကြပါတယ်။

barefoot with flowers in their hands,

ပန်းတွေကိုင်ထားလျက် ခြေဗလာနဲ့ သူတို့ကို

that they would take them to the police station,

သူတို့ကို ရိုက်နှက်၊ အရှက်ခွဲပြီး

beat them up and try to humiliate them.

ရဲစခန်းကို ခေါ်ဆောင်သွားမယ်ဆိုတာပါ။

And yet they did it anyway.

သို့ပေမဲ့ သူတို့ဟာ ဘာဖြစ်ဖြစ် ဆက်လက် သီဆိုနေခဲ့တယ်။

This year, something changed in Belarus,

ဒီနှစ် Belarus မှာ တစ်ခုခုပြောင်းလဲခဲ့တယ်။

a country of more than nine million people

၁၉၉၄ ကတည်းက အာဏာရှင်ဆန်တဲ့ ခေါင်းဆောင်းက အုပ်ချုပ်ခဲ့တဲ့

that has been ruled by an authoritarian leader since 1994.

ပြည်သူပေါင်း ၉ သန်းကျော်ရှိတဲ့ တိုင်းပြည်တစ်ပြည်ပါ။

These young women were protesting the latest rigged election result,

အဲဒီ မိန်းကလေးတွေဟာ ရက်အနည်းငယ်စောပြီး ကျင်းပခဲ့တဲ​့ ရွေးကောက်ပွဲရဲ့

which had taken [place] just a few days earlier.

အကွက်ဆင်ခဲ့တဲ​့ နောက်ဆုံးရလဒ်ကို ကန့်ကွက်ခဲ့ကြတယ်။

Their small expressions of protest very quickly expanded

သူတို့ရဲ့ သေးငယ်လှတဲ့ ကန့်ကွက်မှုရဲ့ ထုတ်ဖော်ချက်တွေဟာ

into massive, peaceful, women-led demonstrations

ဧရာမ ငြိမ်းချမ်းတဲ့ အမျိုးသမီးတွေ ဦးဆောင်တဲ့ ဆန္ဒပြပွဲတွေအဖြစ်

all across the country.

တစ်နိုင်ငံလုံးရှိ ပျံ့နှံ့သွားခဲ့တယ်။

Within just a few days,

ရက်အနည်းငယ်အတွင်းမှာ

a few hundred thousand people took to the streets

ရာထောင်ချီသော ပြည်သူတွေဟာ လမ်းမပေါ် ဆက်လက်ထွက်ပြီး

and demonstrations have continued ever since,

အဲဒီအချိန်ကတည်းက ဆန္ဒပြပွဲတွေ ဆကိဖြစ်ခဲ့တယ်။

the likes of which Belarus has never seen before.

ဒီလိုမျိုးတွေ Belarus မှာ အရင်က တစ်ခါမှ မမြင်ဖူးခဲ့ဘူးလေ။

All this despite the fact

ဒီလို ကန့်ကွက်မှုတွေ ရှိနေဆဲမှာပင်

that the president proclaimed himself reelected

သမ္မတ ဟာ ဥပဒေတစ်ရပ်ကို ကြေညာချက် ထုတ်ပြန်လိုက်ပြီး

and that more than 10,000 people have been detained,

လူပေါင်း ၁၀၀၀၀ ကျော် ဖမ်းဆီးခဲ့တယ်။

hundreds tortured

လူပေါင်းရာကျော်ကို နှိပ်စက်ခဲ့ပြီး

and at least six killed.

အနည်းဆုံး လူ ၆ ယောက် သေဆုံးခဲ့ရတယ်။

Many people wonder why the people of Belarus are speaking up now.

ဘာကြောင့် Belarus ပြည်သူတွေက ထုတ်ဖော် ပြောဆိုလဲဆိုတာကို လူများစွာက တွေးကြတယ်။

What makes them keep taking to the streets

ဘာက သူတို့ကို လမ်းမပေါ် ထွက်စေတာလဲ။

despite unprecedented police violence,

ရဲတွေရဲ့ မမျှော်လင့်ရတဲ့ အကြမ်းဖက်မှုတွေ

despite state lawlessness?

ဥပဒေကင်းမဲ့မှုတွေ ရှိနေဆဲတောင်မှပေါ့။

The answer I hear the most

ကျွန်မအကြားရဆုံး အဖြေကတော့

is that people have become fearless,

ပြည်သူတွေက ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုတွေ မရှိကြတာကြောင့်ပဲ။

and it's something we have become together.

ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုတွေ ကင်းမဲ့ခြင်းက ကျွန်မတို့ကို အတူတကွဖြစ်သွားစေတယ်။

Because fear is the province of one.

ဘာကြောင့်လဲဆိုတော့ ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုတွေက

It feeds on isolation.

အထီးကျန်ခြင်းကို ဖြစ်ပေါ်စေတယ်။

It doesn't discriminate:

ဒါက ခွဲခြားတာ မရှိဘူး။

men, women, children, elderly --

ယောကျာ်း၊ မိန်းမ၊ ကလေး၊ သက်က​ြီးရွယ်အို

all of us can feel fear,

အားလုံးဟာ ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုကို ခံစားရတယ်။

but only as long as we are on our own.

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကိုယ့်ဘာသာကိုယ် ရှိနေသရွေ့တော့ ဒီလိုပါ။

Fearlessness takes two.

ကြောက်ရွံ့မှု ကင်းမဲ့မှုက နှစ်ယောက်လိုတယ်။

It only works if and when we show up for each other.

အချင်းချင်း ပြသလိုက်တဲ့အခါမှသာ ကြောက်ရွံ့မှု ကင်းမဲ့လာကြတယ်။

Show up so that your neighbor,

မင်းရဲ့ အိမ်နီးချင်း၊ လုပ်ဖော်ကိုင်ဖက်

your colleague, your friend has courage.

မိတ်ဆွေမှာ သတ္တိရှိအောင် ပြသလိုက်ပါ။

And they will do the same for you.

သူတို့ဟာ အင်အားတွေရှိလာပြီး ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုတွေ ကင်းမဲ့လာကြမယ်။

A lot has been made of my own role in the presidential election

ဩဂုတ်လ ၂၀၂၀ ခုနှစ်မှာ ကျင်းပခဲ့တဲ့ သမ္မတ ရွေးကောက်ပွဲမှာ

of August 2020.

ကျွန်မတို့ ကျရာနေရာကနေ ဆောင်ရွက်ပြီးပြီ။

How I stepped in to run for my husband, Sergei, when he was jailed

ကျွန်မ ယောကျ်ား Sergei ထောင်ကျတုန်းက ကျွန်မ ပြေးလွှားခဲ့ရတယ်။

and it became clear that the authorities would deny him his chance to run himself;

အဲ့လိုပြေးလွှားခဲ့ခြင်းက ဩဇာရှိသူတွေရဲ့ နှောင့်နှေးမှုတွေကို ပေါ်လွင်စေတယ်။

how I rightfully won the election

ကျွန်မ ရွေးကောက်ပွဲကို အနိုင်ရပြီး

and became the elected leader of a democratic Belarus,

Belarus ရဲ့ ဒီမိုကရက် ခေါင်းဆောင် ဖြစ်လာခဲ့တယ်။

but the official results only gave me 10 percent of the vote

ဒါပေမဲ့ မဲရလဒ်ရဲ့ ၁၀ ရာခိုင်နှုန်းသာ နိုင်တယ်လို့ တရားဝင် ထုတ်ပြန်ခဲ့တယ်။

and I was forced into exile with my children;

how I still fight for those who voted for me

ကျွန်မကို မဲပေးတဲ့ သူတွေက အုပ်ချုပ်မှုကို ရယူစေချင်သောကြောင့်

and whose voice the regime wants to steal;

ကျွန်မ တွန်းလှန်တယ်။

how "fearless" I am.

ကျွန်မ ဘယ်လောက် အကြောက်အလန့် ကင်းမဲ့လိုက်သလဲ။

But there were many moments when I was frightened,

ကျွန်မ အထိတ်တလန့်ဖြစ်နေခိုက်မှာ အဖြစ်အပျက်တွေ အများကြီး ရှိခဲ့တယ်။

and I wanted to step down.

ကျွန်မ လက်လျော့ချင်ခဲ့တယ်။

I was threatened

တွန်းလှန်မှုတွေကို

and forced to believe that I'm alone in this fight.

ကျွန်မတစ်ယောက်တည်း လုပ်တယ်လို့ ယုံကြည်အောင် ခြိမ်းခြောက်ခဲ့တယ်။

And yet the more cities I visited,

အခုထက်ထိတိုင်အောင် ကျွန်မ မြို့တော်တော်များကို သွားလည်လေ

the more people showed up for the rallies,

ပြည်သူတွေက စုရုံး ထောက်ခံလေလေ

the less fear I had.

ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုတွေ ပိုလျော့နည်းလာလေလေပါ။

And then in the days before the election in Minsk,

ပြီးတော့ ရွေးကောက်ပွဲမတိုင်မီ Minsk မှာ

60,000 people came to show their support for me,

ပြည်သူပေါင်း ၆၀၀၀၀ ကျော်က ကျွန်မကို ထောက်ခံကြောင်း ပြသခဲ့ကြတယ်။

and I was no longer afraid.

ကျွန်မ မကြောက်ရွံ့တော့ဘူး။

I never wanted to do any of this.

ဘယ်တော့မှ ကျွန်မ မထိတ်လန့်ချင်ခဲ့ဘူး။

I was never overly political,

ကျွန်မ နိုင်ငံရေး သိပ်လုပ်ခဲ့ဘူး။

and I never planned to run for office.

ရုံးအလုပ်တွေလည်း လုံးဝ လုပ်ဖို့ မစီစဉ်ခဲ့ဘူး။

I wanted to be a mom and a wife.

ကျွန်မ မိခင်တစ်ယောက်၊ ဇနီး တစ်ယောက်ပဲ ဖြစ်ချင်ခဲ့တယ်။

But by fate and the will of my people,

ဒါပေမယ့် ကံကြမ္မာနှင့် ပြည်သူတွေရဲ့ တောင်းဆိုမှုတွေက

I was elevated to this position.

ကျွန်မကို ထိုနေရာသို့ တွန်းပို့ခဲ့တယ်။

And I accept this with a sense of duty and pride.

တာဝန်နှင့် ဂုဏ်ယူမှု အသိစိတ်ကြောင့် ကျွန်မ ထိုနေရာကို လက်သင့်ခံခဲ့တယ်။

I will not give up.

ကျွန်မ အရှုံးပေးမှာ မဟုတ်ဘူး။

And I will show up for people, because they show up for me.

ပြည်သူတွေက ကျွန်မကို ပြသ သလို ကျွန်မလည်း ပြည်သူတွေကို သက်သေပြမယ်။

Our courage is born from unity.

ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ စည်းလုံးမှုကြောင့် ကျွန်မတို့ ရဲရင့်လာခဲ့တယ်။

Our solidarity is our strength.

ကျွန်မတို့ တစ်စုတစ်စည်းထဲ ဖြစ်ခြင်းက ကျွန်မတို့ အင်အားပါပဲ။

I also now understand that being fearless is a commitment.

ကြောက်ရွံ့မှုကင်းခြင်းက ကျွန်မကတိပေးထားသော အလုပ်ဖြစ်ကြောင်း ကျွန်မ နားလည်ပြီ။

It is a decision you make every single day.

အဲဒါက မင်းနေ့စဉ် ပြုလုပ်ခဲ့တဲ့ ဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်ပဲ။

It is a responsibility you take --

ဒါက မင်း ယူလိုက်တဲ့ တာဝန်

responsibility for one another.

အခြားတစ်ယောက်အတွက် မင်းယူခဲ့တဲ့ တာဝန်ပဲ။

In this regard, I'm no different from my fellow Belarusians.

ကျွန်မရဲ့ ထောက်ခံသူ Belarus နိုင်ငံသားနဲ့ ကျွန်မဟာ ကွဲပြားမနေဘူး။

Their support is tangible.

သူတို့ရဲ့ ထောက်ခံမှုက ခံစားလို့ရတယ်။

Their solidarity grows in progression.

သူတို့ရဲ့ တစ်စုတစ်စည်းထဲ ဖြစ်မှုဟာ အစဉ်အဆက် ကြီးထွားလာတယ်။

When there are two of you,

လူနှစ်ယောက်ရှိရင်

you are daring.

မင်းဟာ အတင့်ရဲလိမ့်မယ်။

When you're 100, you are brave.

လူ ၁၀၀ ရှိရင် မင်းဟာ ရဲရင့်လိမ့်မယ်။

When there are thousands of you,

လူ ၁၀၀၀ ရှိရင်

you are fearless.

မင်းဟာ အကြောက်တရား ကင်းမဲ့လိမ့်မယ်။

And once you are tens of thousands,

လူ ၁၀၀၀၀ ရှိရင်

you become invincible.

မင်းဟာ လွှမ်းမိုးနိုင်လိမ့်မယ်။
