My personal journey into the world of programming and technology

I wanted to somehow express all of this love,

And I started to be one of those people

Here's what I think today.

They are really, really good at concentrating on things

and being exact and they ask amazing questions like,

It's us parents who feel

like computer science is this esoteric, weird science discipline

That it's almost as far removed from everyday life

as, say, nuclear physics.

And they are partly right about that.

There's a lot of syntax and controls and data structures

And we as a community, we've made computers smaller and smaller.

We've built layers and layers of abstraction on top of each other

We adults, we grow oddly silent.

This whole quest led me to this little girl.

And I wrote a book about her and I illustrated it

And kids, you know what?

In Japan, toilets are computers

and there's even hackers who hack them.

And we go further

and I give them these little stickers with an on/off button on them.

"ကြားရတာ တကယ်ခက်ပုံပဲ၊ ဒီအတွက် အဖြေမှန်ကို မသိဘူး"တဲ့။

But I tell them, "Don't worry,

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကျွန်မက "မပူပါနဲ့၊

your parents don't know the right answer, either.

မင်းတို့မိဘတွေလည်း အဖြေမှန်မသိဘူး၊

They've just started to hear about this thing

"အရာတွေရဲ့ အင်တာနက်"လို့ခေါ်တာကို သူတို့

called The Internet of Things.

စကြားလိုက်ရတာပါ" လို့ပြောလိုက်တယ်။

But you kids, you are going to be the ones

ဒါပေမဲ့ ကလေးတို့၊ မင်းတို့ဟာ အရာတိုင်းဟာ

who are really going to live up in a world where everything is a computer."

ကွန်ပြူတာဖြစ်တယ်ဆိုတဲ့ ကမ္ဘာထဲမှာ နေထိုင်ရတော့မယ့်သူတွေ ဖြစ်တော့မှာနော်။"

And then I had this little girl who came to me

ဒီနောက်မှာ ကျွန်မဆီလာတဲ့ ကလေးမလေးတစ်ယောက်

and took a bicycle lamp

စက်ဘီးမီးလုံးကိုယူပြီး

and she said, "This bicycle lamp, if it were a computer,

ပြောတာက " ဒီစက်ဘီးမီးလုံးဟာ ကျွန်ပြူတာသာဆိုရင်

it would change colors."

အရောင်တွေ ပြောင်းမှာပေါ့နော်" တဲ့။

And I said, "That's a really good idea, what else could it do?"

ကျွန်မက "ဒီစိတ်ကူး အရမ်းကောင်းတယ်၊ ဒီ့ပြင် ဘာလုပ်လို့ရသေးလဲ"

And she thinks and she thinks,

သူမဟာ စဉ်းစား၊ စဉ်းစားနေပြီး

and she goes, "If this bicycle lamp were a computer,

ပြောတာက "ဒီစက်ဘီးမီးလုံးဟာ ကွန်ပြူတာသာဆိုရင်

we could go on a biking trip with my father

ကျွန်မအဖေနဲ့ စက်ဘီးစီးခရီးထွက်ပြီး

and we would sleep in a tent

ရွက်ဖျင်တဲမှာ အိပ်လို့ရတယ်၊

and this biking lamp could also be a movie projector."

ပြီးတော့ စက်ဘီးစီးမီးလုံးဟာ ရုပ်ရှင်ပြစက် ဖြစ်နိုင်တာပေါ့" တဲ့။

And that's the moment I'm looking for,

ဒါဟာ ကျွန်မ ရှာဖွေနေတဲ့ အခိုက်အတန့်ပါ၊

the moment when the kid realizes

ကမ္ဘာကြီးဟာ တကယ့်ကို အဆင်သင့်

that the world is definitely not ready yet,

မဖြစ်သေးတာကို ကလေးတွေ သိနားလည်သွားတဲ့ ကာလပါ။

that a really awesome way of making the world more ready

နည်းပညာတည်ဆောက်ခြင်းနဲ့ ကမ္ဘာ ကြီးကို ပိုပြီးအဆင်သင့်ဖြစ်အောင်

is by building technology

ဖန်တီးခြင်းရဲ့ တကယ့် အံ့ဖွယ် နည်းလမ်းပါ။

and that each one of us can be a part of that change.

တစ်ဦးစီဟာ ဒီပြောင်းလဲခြင်းရဲ့ အပိုင်းတစ်ခုဖြစ်နိုင်တာပါ။

Final story, we also built a computer.

နောက်ဆုံးဇာတ်လမ်း၊ ကျွန်မတို့လည်း ကွန်ပြူတာတစ်လုံး ဆောက်ခဲ့တယ်။

And we got to know the bossy CPU and the helpful RAM and ROM

ဆရာကျတဲ့ CPU နဲ့ အရာတွေကို မှတ်မိဖို့ ဒါကို ထောက်ကူတဲ့ အကူရတဲ့

that help it remember things.

RAM နဲ့ ROM ကို သိလာခဲ့တယ်။

And after we've assembled our computer together,

ကျွန်မတို့ရဲ့ ကွန်ပြူတာကို တပ်ဆင်ပြီးတဲ့နောက်မှာ

we also design an application for it.

ဒီအတွက် လုပ်ဆောင်ချက်တစ်ခုကိုလည်း ပုံစံထုတ်ခဲ့တယ်။

And my favorite story is this little boy,

ကျွန်မ အကြိုက်ဆုံးက ဒီ ခြောက်နှစ်သား

he's six years old

ကောင်လေးရဲ့ ဇာတ်လမ်းပါ၊

and his favorite thing in the world is to be an astronaut.

ကမ္ဘာမှာ သူအကြိုက်ဆုံးက အာကာသယာဉ်မှူး ဖြစ်ဖို့တဲ့။

And the boy, he has these huge headphones on

ဒီကောင်လေးက ဒီနားကြပ်ကြီးတွေတပ်ပြီး

and he's completely immersed in his tiny paper computer

သူ့ရဲ့ စက္ကူ ကွန်ပြူတာလေးထဲမှာ စိတ်က နစ်မြုပ်နေတယ်၊

because you see, he's built his own

အကြောင်းက သိတဲ့အတိုင်း သူ့ကိုယ်ပိုင်

intergalactic planetary navigation application.

စကြာဝဠာအချင်းချင်း ဂြိုဟ်သွားလာဖို့ကို တည်ဆောက်ထားလို့လေ။

And his father, the lone astronaut in the Martian orbit,

သူ့အဖေ အင်္ဂါဂြိုဟ်ပတ်လမ်းက ထီးတည်း အာကာသယာဉ်မှူးဟာ

is on the other side of the room

အခန်းရဲ့ အခြားဘက်ခြမ်းမှာဖြစ်ပြီး

and the boy's important mission

ကောင်လေးရဲ့ အရေးကြီး အထူးတာဝန်က

is to bring the father safely back to earth.

ဖခင်ကို ကမ္ဘာမြေဆီ ဘေးကင်းစွာ ပြန်ခေါ်လာဖို့ပါ။

And these kids are going to have a profoundly different view of the world

ဒီကလေးတွေဟာ ကမ္ဘာကြီးရဲ့နက်ရှိုင်းစွာ မတူညီတဲ့အမြင်နဲ့ ဒါကို နည်းပညာနဲ့

and the way we build it with technology.

တည်ဆောက်တဲ့နည်းလမ်းကို ရရှိတော့မှာပါ။

Finally, the more approachable, the more inclusive,

နောက်ဆုံး ပိုပြီးချဉ်းကပ်နိုင်လေ၊ ပိုပါဝင်လေဖြစ်ပြီး

and the more diverse we make the world of technology,

the more colorful and better the world will look like.

Imagine a world where the little Ada Lovelaces of tomorrow,

who live in a permanent reality of 1s and 0s,

they grow up to be very optimistic and brave about technology.

They embrace the powers and the opportunities

and the limitations of the world.

A world of technology that is wonderful, whimsical

and a tiny bit weird.

When I was a girl,

I wanted to be a storyteller.

I loved make-believe worlds

and my favorite thing to do

And in the evenings, I would go to sleep in Narnia.

ညနေခင်းတွေမှာ Narnia မှာ သွားအိပ်မယ်လေ။

And programming turned out to be the perfect profession for me.

ပရိုဂရမ်ရေးခြင်းဟာ ကျွန်မအတွက် ပြီးပြည့်စုံတဲ့ အလုပ် ဖြစ်ခဲ့တယ်။

I still create worlds.

ကမ္ဘာတွေကို ဖန်တီးနေဆဲပါ။

Instead of stories, I do them with code.

Programming gives me this amazing power
