I was basically concerned about what was going on in the world.

I couldn't understand

the killing of innocent people.

Making sense of those things

is a very difficult thing to do.

And when I was 12, I became an actor.

I was bottom of the class. I haven't got any qualifications.

I was told I was dyslexic.

In fact, I have got qualifications.

I got a D in pottery, which was the one thing that I did get --

which was useful, obviously.

And so concern

is where all of this comes from.

And then, being an actor, I was doing these different kinds of things,

and I felt the content of the work that I was involved in

really wasn't cutting it, that there surely had to be more.

And at that point, I read a book by Frank Barnaby,

to try and progress things and move things forward.

And that fascinated me,

because I'd been messing around with a camera most of my life.

And then I thought, well maybe I could do something.

بعدش به فکرم رسید که ممکنه بتونم کاری کنم.

Maybe I could become a filmmaker.

می تونستم یه فیلم ساز بشم.

Maybe I can use the form of film constructively

می تونستم از غالب فیلم به طور سازنده

to in some way make a difference.

درجهت ایجاد تغییری استفاده کنم.

Maybe there's a little change I can get involved in.

شاید من هم میتونستم درگیر کمی تغییر ( در زندگی بشر) بشوم.

So I started thinking about peace,

بنابراین کم کم به فکر صلح افتادم،

and I was obviously, as I said to you,

و همونطور که بهتون گفتم، خیلی آشکارا

very much moved by these images,

trying to make sense of that.

Could I go and speak to older and wiser people

who would tell me how they made sense

of the things that are going on?

Because it's obviously incredibly frightening.

But I realized that,

having been messing around with structure as an actor,

در این شرایط برای کار کردن به عنوان یه فعال،

that a series of sound bites in itself wasn't enough,

تنها یه سری نداهای درونی کافی نیست،

that there needed to be a mountain to climb,

بلکه کوهی عظیم وجود داره که باید فتح شود،

there needed to be a journey that I had to take.

And if I took that journey,

no matter whether it failed or succeeded, it would be completely irrelevant.

The point was that I would have something

to hook the questions of -- is humankind fundamentally evil?

جوابی برای این سوال پیدا کنم. " آیا نوع بشر اساسا شیطان است؟"

Is the destruction of the world inevitable? Should I have children?

آیا ساختار دنیا غیر قابل اجتناب است؟آیا مجبورم که بچه داشته باشم؟

Is that a responsible thing to do? Etc., etc.

آیا مسئولیتی برای انجام کار وجود داره؟ و غیره..

So I was thinking about peace,

به صلح فکر می کردم،

and then I was thinking, well where's the starting point for peace?

داشتم به این فکر می کردم که نقطه آغاز صلح کجاست؟

And that was when I had the idea.

اینجا بود که به این نتیجه رسیدم،

There was no starting point for peace.

که هیچ نقطه آغازی برای صلح وجود نداره.

There was no day of global unity.

هیچ روزی برای "وحدت دنیا" نیست.

There was no day of intercultural cooperation.

هیچ روزی برای "همکاری میان فرهنگی " وجود نداره.

There was no day when humanity came together,

هیچ روزی نیست که در اون مردم کنار هم جمع بشن

separate in all of those things

and just shared it together --

همه داشته هایشان رو با هم به اشتراک گذارند.

that we're in this together,

که کلید بقای بشریت

and that if we united and we interculturally cooperated,

then that might be the key to humanity's survival.

و د همکاری با هم نهفته است.

That might shift the level of consciousness

around the fundamental issues that humanity faces --

که بشر با آنها روبروست ممکن است عوض شود.

if we did it just for a day.

اگه تنها برای یک روز این کار رو می کردیم.

So obviously we didn't have any money.

اما قطعنا ما پولی نداشتیم.

I was living at my mom's place.

من تو خونه مادرم زندگی می کردم

And we started writing letters to everybody.

شروع کردیم به نامه نوشتن به همه.

You very quickly work out what is it that you've got to do

خیلی زود فهمیدم که برای فهم این مسئله

to fathom that out.

باید چی کار کنم.

How do you create a day voted by every single head of state in the world

چه جوری یک روزی رو که منتخب همه سران دنیا باشه رو داشته باشیم

to create the first ever Ceasefire Nonviolence Day,

که این روز برای اولین بار به عنوان " روز صلح و آتش بس"

the 21st of September?

در 21 سپتامبر هر سال داشته باشیم؟

And I wanted it to be the 21st of September

دوست داشتم 21 سپتامبر باشه

because it was my granddad's favorite number.

چرا که این عدد مورد علاقه پدربزرگم بود.

He was a prisoner of war.

اون یه اسیر جنگی بود.

He saw the bomb go off at Nagasaki.

اون فرود بمب در شهر ناگاساکی رو دیده بود.

It poisoned his blood. He died when I was 11.

شیمیایی شد و وقتی که من 11 سالم بود مرد.

So he was like my hero.

اون برام مثل یه قهرمان بود.

And the reason why 21 was the number is

و علت اینکه چرا عدد 21:

700 men left, 23 came back,

700 نفر (به جبهه) رفتن، 23 نفر بر گشتند.

two died on the boat and 21 hit the ground.

دو نفر هم تو قایق می میرند و تنها 21 نفر به ساحل می رسند.

And that's why we wanted it to be the 21st of September as the date of peace.

و یه این دلیل ما می خواستیم که تاریخ اون روز 21 سپتامبر باشه.

So we began this journey,

بنابراین سفر رو آغاز کردیم،

and we launched it in 1999.

در سال 1999 کار شروع شد.

And we wrote to heads of state, their ambassadors,

ما برای سران کشور ها نامه نوشتیم، به سفراشون،

Nobel Peace laureates, NGOs, faiths,

به برندگان جایزه صلح نوبل،انژیو ها، مذاهب

various organizations -- literally wrote to everybody.

سازمان های گوناگون--تقریبا به همه.

And very quickly, some letters started coming back.

و برخی از نامه ها خیلی زود جواب داده شدند.

And we started to build this case.

و شروع کردیم به ایجاد این موضوع.

And I remember the first letter.

اولین نامه رو درست یادمه.

One of the first letters was from the Dalai Lama.

یکی از اولین نامه ها از طرف دالایی داما بود.

And of course we didn't have the money; we were playing guitars

و البته ما پولی نداشتیم؛پول تمبر نامه هایی که می فرستادیم رو

and getting the money for the stamps that we were sending out all of [this mail].

با گیتار زدن در می آوردیم.

A letter came through from the Dalai Lama saying,

دالایی داما در نامه نوشته بود

"This is an amazing thing. Come and see me.

"این فوق العاده است. به دیدنم بیا.

I'd love to talk to you about the first ever day of peace."

دوست دارم با شما در باره تنها روز صلح در دنیا صحبت کنم. "

And we didn't have money for the flight.

ولی ما پول پرواز رو نداشتیم.

And I rang Sir Bob Ayling, who was CEO of BA at the time,

با آقای باب آیلینگ که در اون موقع مدیر عامل BA بود تماس گرفتم.

and said, "Mate, we've got this invitation.

گفتم" رفیق. ما این دعوتنامه رو دریافت کردیم.

Could you give me a flight? Because we're going to go see him."

می تونی ترتیب پرواز رو بدی؟ چونکه می خواهیم بریم اونو ببینیم."

And of course, we went and saw him and it was amazing.

رفتیم و دیدیمش. شگفت انگیز بود.

And then Dr. Oscar Arias came forward.

بعدش دکتر اسکار آریاس پیش قدم شد.

And actually, let me go back to that slide,

بذارید برگردم به همون اسلاید قبلی.

because when we launched it in 1999 --

چرا که وقتی در سال 1999 شروع کردیم

this idea to create the first ever day of ceasefire and non-violence --

به خلق روزی به عنوان " روز صلح و آتش بس" --

we invited thousands of people.

هزاران نفر رو دعوت کردیم.

Well not thousands -- hundreds of people, lots of people --

هزاران هم نه-- صدها نفر، افراد زیادی رو--

all the press, because we were going to try and create

همه مطبوعات رو، چرا که سعی داشتیم

the first ever World Peace Day, a peace day.

اولین روز صلح در دنیا رو خلق کنیم. یک روز صلح.

And we invited everybody,

ما از همه دعوت کردیم،

and no press showed up.

اما هیچ شبکه خبری نیومد.

There were 114 people there -- they were mostly my friends and family.

144 نفر اومده بودن، بیشترشون از دوستان و اقوام.

And that was kind of like the launch of this thing.

و آغاز این کار تقریبا این شکلی بود.

But it didn't matter because we were documenting, and that was the thing.

اما مهم نبود چرا که داشتیم همه چیز رو ثبت می کردیم و این مهم بود.

For me, it was really about the process.

برای من در واقع روند کار مهم بود.

It wasn't about the end result.

و نه نتیجه نهایی کار.

And that's the beautiful thing about the camera.

و چیز قشنگی هم درباره دوربین وجود داره.

They used to say the pen is mightier than the sword. I think the camera is.

می گن که " قلم قوی تر از شمشیره". من فکر میکنم دوربین قوی تره.

And just staying in the moment with it was a beautiful thing

(فرصتی است) برای بودن در لحظه ای که در اون

and really empowering actually.

چیزی به واقع زیبا وقدرتمند وجود داره.

So anyway, we began the journey.

And here you see people like Mary Robinson, I went to see in Geneva.

I'm cutting my hair, it's getting short and long,

موهام رو اینجا کوتاه کردم، موهام هی کوتاه بلند میشه

because every time I saw Kofi Annan,

I was so worried that he thought I was a hippie that I cut it,

فکر میکرد یه هی پی ام..

and that was kind of what was going on.

برای همین اینجوری میشه.

Yeah, I'm not worried about it now.

الان دیگه نگران این موضوع نیستم.

So Mary Robinson,

ماری رابینسون بهم گفت"

she said to me, "Listen, this is an idea whose time has come. This must be created."

این فکریه که وقتش رسیده. الان باید بوجود بیاد."

Kofi Annan said, "This will be beneficial to my troops on the ground."

کوفی عنان گفت" این می تونه به نفع قبایلم باشه."

The OAU at the time, led by Salim Ahmed Salim,

سلیم احمد سلیم که اون موقع سازمان وحدت آفریقا رو مدیریت می کرد

said, "I must get the African countries involved."

گفت:" من باید کاری کنم تا کشورهای آفریقایی هم به طرح ملحق بشن."

Dr. Oscar Arias, Nobel Peace laureate,

دکتر اسکار آریاس،برنده جایزه صلح نوبل،

president now of Costa Rica,

و الان هم رییس جمهور کاستو ریکا ، گفت:

said, "I'll do everything that I can."

" هرکاری از دستم بر بیاد می کنم."

So I went and saw Amr Moussa at the League of Arab States.

بعدش رفتم به دیدن امر موسی در اتحادیه امارات عربی.

I met Mandela at the Arusha peace talks,

ماندلا رو در مذاکرات صلح آروشا ملاقات کردم.

and so on and so on and so on --

و بقیه هم به همین صورت..

while I was building the case

داشتم رو این موضوع کار می کردم

to prove whether this idea

تا بهم ثابت بشه که

would make sense.

آیا این طرح جواب می ده یا نه.

And then we were listening to the people. We were documenting everywhere.

بعدش به مردم گوش کردیم.همه چیز ثبت کردیم.

76 countries in the last 12 years, I've visited.

در 12 سال گذشته به 76 کشور سفر کردم.

And I've always spoken to women and children wherever I've gone.

و هرجایی که رفتم با زنان و بچه های آنجا صحبت کردم.

I've recorded 44,000 young people.

صدای 44000 جوان رو ظبط کردم.

I've recorded about 900 hours of their thoughts.

حدود 900 ساعت از تفکراتشون رو ظبط کردم.

I'm really clear about how young people feel

کاملا برام معلومه که جوانها چه حسی دارن

when you talk to them about this idea

وقتی باهاشون درباره این فکر صحبت می کنی،

of having a starting point for their actions for a more peaceful world

درباره داشتن نقطه آغازی برای کارهاشون در جهت دنیایی آرام

through their poetry, their art, their literature,

در شعرشون،هنرشون،ادبیاتشون

their music, their sport, whatever it might be.

موسیقی شون،ورزششون،و هرچیز دیگه.

And we were listening to everybody.

ما به همه گوش می دادیم.

And it was an incredibly thing, working with the U.N.

کارکردن با سازمان ملل تجربه ای فوق العاده بود.

and working with NGOs and building this case.

همینطور کارکردن با سازمان غیر دولتی برای ایجاد این موضوع.

I felt that I was presenting a case

حس می کردم که دارم طرحی رو

on behalf of the global community

از طرف جامه جهانی برای

to try and create this day.

خلق چنین روزی ارایه میدم.

And the stronger the case and the more detailed it was,

هرچقدر موضوع محکم تر و جزییات بیشتر بود،

the better chance we had of creating this day.

شانس بیشتری برای خلق این روز داشتیم.

And it was this stuff, this,

where I actually was in the beginning

که در آغازش قرار داشتم،

kind of thinking no matter what happened, it didn't actually matter.

یک نوع تفکری که برام مهم نبود چی ممکنه بشه. واقعا مهم نبود.

It didn't matter if it didn't create a day of peace.

مهم نبود اگه اون یک روز صلح خلق نمی شد.

The fact is that, if I tried and it didn't work,

مسئله اینه که اگه من تلاش کردم و جواب نداد،

then I could make a statement

اونوقت می تونم بگم

about how unwilling the global community is to unite --

که چقدر جامعه جهانی نسبت به متحد شدن بی میله.

until, it was in Somalia, picking up that young girl.

تا اینکه ، در سومالی بود که اون دختر رو بغل کردم.

And this young child

و این بچه کوچک رو

who'd taken about an inch and a half out of her leg with no antiseptic,

که حدود یک اینچ و نیم از پاش رو (در جراحی) بدون هیچ ضدعفونی کننده برداشته یودن،

and that young boy who was a child soldier,

و اون پسر بچه یه کودک سرباز بود،

who told me he'd killed people -- he was about 12 --

که بهم گفت در 12 سالگی آدم کشته.

these things made me realize

این چیزها باعث شد تا بفهمم

that this was not a film that I could just stop.

که این فقط یه فیلم نیست که بشه متوقفش کرد.

And that actually, at that moment something happened to me,

which obviously made me go, "I'm going to document.

که بطور شگرفی وادارم کرد تا همه رو مستند کنم.

If this is the only film that I ever make,

اگه این تنها فیلمی است که تاحالا ساختم،

I'm going to document until this becomes a reality."

Because we've got to stop, we've got to do something

where we unite --

separate from all the politics and religion

that, as a young person, is confusing me.

I don't know how to get involved in that process.

نمی دونم چه جوری می تونم این روند رو انجام بدم.

And then on the seventh of September, I was invited to New York.

در هفتم سپتامبر، به نیویورک دعوت شدم.

The Costa Rican government and the British government

دولت های کاستویکار و بریتانیا

had put forward to the United Nations General Assembly,

ایده روز جهانی "صلح و آتش بس " رو

with 54 co-sponsors,

با 54 حامی مشترک

the idea of the first ever Ceasefire Nonviolence Day,

به مجمع عمومی سازمان ملل متحد ارایه داده بودن،

the 21st of September, as a fixed calendar date,

به عنوان روزی مشخص در در تقویم سال، 21 سپتامبر،

and it was unanimously adopted by every head of state in the world.

که سران تمام کشور های دنیا هم به طور محرمانه اون رو قبول کرده بودند.

Yeah, but there were hundreds of individuals, obviously, who made that a reality.

در واقع تلاش صدها نفر( در سراسر دنیا) بود که اونو به واقعیت رسوند.

And thank you to all of them.

That was an incredible moment.

لحظه خارق العاده ای بود.

I was at the top of the General Assembly just looking down into it and seeing it happen.

And as I mentioned, when it started,

we were at the Globe, and there was no press.

And now I was thinking, "Well, the press it really going to hear this story."

And suddenly, we started to institutionalize this day.

Kofi Annan invited me on the morning of September the 11th

to do a press conference.

برای یک کنفرانس خبری دعوتم کرد.

And it was 8:00 AM when I stood there.

ساعت 8 صبح بودرفتم اونجا.

And I was waiting for him to come down, and I knew that he was on his way.

منتظرش بودم که بیاد پایین و می دونستم در راهه.

And obviously he never came down. The statement was never made.

و مسلما اون هیچ وقت نیومد. بیانیه هرگز نوشته نشد.

The world was never told there was a day of global ceasefire and nonviolence.

به دنیا هرگز گفته نشد که روزی به نام روز جهانی صلح و آتش بس وجود داره.

And it was obviously a tragic moment

واقعا لحظه غم انگیزی بود،

for the thousands of people who lost their lives,

برای هزاران انسانی که زندگی شان را از دست داده بودن،

there and then subsequently all over the world.

چه در آنجا و چه در هر کجای دیگر دنیا.

It never happened.

هرگز اتفاق نیافتاد.

And I remember thinking,

و یادمه داشتم فکر می کردم

"This is exactly why, actually,

" که درست به همین دلیل باید

we have to work even harder.

بازم سختر تلاش کنیم.

And we have to make this day work.

و این روز رو به حقیقت برسونیم.

It's been created; nobody knows.

اون خلق شده بود، اما کسی نمی دونست.

But we have to continue this journey,

اما ما باید این سفر رو ادامه بدیم

and we have to tell people,

and we have to prove it can work."

And I left New York freaked,

but actually empowered.

And I felt inspired

by the possibilities

that if it did, then maybe we wouldn't see things like that.

که اگه اون روز ثبت شده بود،شاید امروز شاهد چیزهایی شبیه این نبودیم.

I remember putting that film out and going to cynics.

یادمه فیلم رو از دوربین درآوردم به سینیک رفتم.

I was showing the film,

فیلم رو بهشون نشون می دادم

and I remember being in Israel and getting it absolutely slaughtered

و یادمه یه بار در اسراییل فیلمی از یک قتل عام را

by some guys having watched the film --

با چند نفر که رو تماشا می کردم

that it's just a day of peace, it doesn't mean anything.

که این فقط روز صلح است و معنی دیگه ای نداره.

It's not going to work; you're not going to stop the fighting in Afghanistan;

این جواب نمیده، شما نمی تونید جنگ در افعانستان رو پایان بدید،

the Taliban won't listen, etc., etc.

طالبان به این حرفها گوش نمی دند و غیره..

It's just symbolism.

این فقط یک نماده.

And that was even worse

این حتی بدتر از

than actually what had just happened in many ways,

چیزهایی بود که در واقعیت به جهات مختلف روی داده بود.

because it couldn't not work.

چونکه اون نمی تونه جواب بده.

I'd spoken in Somalia, Burundi, Gaza, the West Bank,

من با مردم سومالی،بروندی ،غزه ،کرانه غربی،

India, Sri Lanka, Congo, wherever it was,

هند،سریلانکا،کنگو هر جایی که بود،

and they'd all tell me, "If you can create a window of opportunity,

صحبت کردم و بهم گفتن" اگه می تونی پنجره ای از فرصت بسازی،

we can move aid, we can vaccinate children.

می تونیم کمک ها رو منتقل و بچه ها رو واکسینه کنیم.

Children can lead their projects.

بچه ها می تونم پروژه های خودشون رو رهبری کنن.

They can unite. They can come together. If people would stop, lives will be saved."

اونها می تونن متحد بشن و کنار هم باشن. اگه مردم دست از جنگ بردارن، زندگی نجات پیدا میکند."

That's what I'd heard.

این چیزی است که شنیدم.

And I'd heard that from the people who really understood what conflict was about.

از کسانی شنیدم که واقعا درک کرده بودند که مناقشه از چه قراره.

And so I went back to the United Nations.

بنابراین دوباره به سازمان ملل برگشتم.

I decided that I'd continue filming and make another movie.

تصمیم گرفتم که فیلم برداری رو ادامه بدم و فیلم دیگه ای بسازم.

And I went back to the U.N. for another couple of years.

برای یکی دوسالی به نیویورک برگشتم.

We started moving around the corridors of the U.N. system,

شروع کردیم به گشتن در اطراف راهروهای سازمان ملل،

governments and NGOs,

دولت ها و سازمانهای غیر دولتی،

trying desperately to find somebody

نومیدانه سعی می کردیم تا کسی رو پیدا کنیم

to come forward and have a go at it,

تا قدم پیش بذاره و ببینه

see if we could make it possible.

می تونیم این کار و به تحقق برسونیم یا نه.

And after lots and lots of meetings obviously,

بعد از یه عالمه مذاکره

I'm delighted that this man, Ahmad Fawzi,

خوشبختانه این مرد، احمد فایز

one of my heroes and mentors really,

he managed to get UNICEF involved.

موفق شد به عضویت یونیسف بپیوندم.

And UNICEF, God bless them, they said, "Okay, we'll have a go."

و صندوق کودکان سازمان ملل متحد ، خدا خیرشون بده، گفتن"باشه. امتحانش می کنیم."

And then UNAMA became involved in Afghanistan.

بعد هم ماموریت کمکی سازمان ملل متحد در افغانستان به ما ملحق شد.

It was historical. Could it work in Afghanistan

And I was getting it all on film and I was recording it,

از همه این لحظه ها فیلم می گرفتم و ضبطشون می کردم،

and I was thinking, "This is it. This is the possibility of it maybe working.

کم کم به این فکر افتادم" همینه. این فرصتی که ممکنه جواب بده.

But even if it doesn't, at least the door is open

اما اگه حتی نشد، حداقل در بازه

and there's a chance."

و فرصتی هست."

And so I went back to London,

بنابراین به لندن برگشتم،

and I went and saw this chap, Jude Law.

و اونجا این جوان رو دیدم، جود لا.

And I saw him because he was an actor, I was an actor,

به این دلیل رفتم ببینمش که اونم مثل من یه بازیگر بود.

I had a connection to him,

باهاش تماس گرفتم

because we needed to get to the press, we needed this attraction,

چونکه به مطبوعات نیاز داشتیم، به توجه نیاز داشتیم،

we needed the media to be involved.

نیاز داشتیم که رسانه ها هم بهمون ملحق بشن.

Because if we start pumping it up a bit maybe more people would listen

اگه کمی در کارمون پیشرفت می داشتیم ، افراد بیشتری بهمون گوش می دادن.

and there'd be more --

وقتی به محله های خاصی بریم

when we got into certain areas,

افراد بیشتری رو

maybe there would be more people interested.

که به این طرح علاقه مندن پیدا می کنیم.

And maybe we'd be helped financially a little bit more,

اینجوری شاید از نطر مالی هم کمی بیشتر حمایت بشیم.

which had been desperately difficult.

چرا که وضع مالی مون واقعا نا امید کننده بود.

I won't go into that.

من وارد این کار نشدم.

So Jude said, "Okay, I'll do some statements for you."

جود گفت: باشه من برات کمی تبلیغ می کنم. "

While I was filming these statements, he said to me, "Where are you going next?"

وقتی داشتم از چیزهایی که می گفت فیلم می گرفتم، بهم گفت" بعدش می خواهی چی کار کنی؟"

I said, "I'm going to go to Afghanistan." He said, "Really?"

گفتم":میرم به افغانستان." گفت: واقعا؟"

And I could sort of see a little look in his eye of interest.

توی چشماش کمی برق شوق و علاقه دیدم.

So I said to him, "Do you want to come with me?

ازش پرسیدم. " می خوای باهام بیای؟

It'd be really interesting if you came.

اگه بیایی خیلی خوب می شه.

It would help and bring attention.

می تونه کمک کنه و توجه ها رو جلب کنه.

And that attention

اون توجه ها

would help leverage the situation,

شرایط رو از همه جهات ممکن

as well as all of the other sides of it."

بهتر و پر نفوذ تر می کنه."

I think there's a number of pillars to success.

به نظرم در راه موفقیت چند مرحله وجود داره.

One is you've got to have a great idea.

اول اینه باید یک فکر فوق العاده داشته باشی.

The other is you've got to have a constituency, you've got to have finance,

دیگه اینکه باید تعدادی حامی و پول داشته باشی،

and you've got to be able to raise awareness.

باید بتونی که آگاهی رو در مردم بیدار کنی.

And actually I could never raise awareness by myself, no matter what I'd achieved.

و در واقع من خودم ، جدای از همه چیزهایی که به دست آوردم، هیچ وقت نتونستم به تنهایی آکاهی رو بیدار کنم.

So these guys were absolutely crucial.

این آدمها واقعا تاثیر گذار بودند.

So he said yes,

بنابراین اون قبول کرد،

and we found ourselves in Afghanistan.

و به افغانستان رفتیم.

It was a really incredible thing that when we landed there,

وقتی رسیدیم اونجا، واقعا شگفت انگیز بود که

I was talking to various people, and they were saying to me,

با افراد مختلفی که صحبت می کردم بهم می گفتن

"You've got to get everybody involved here.

"تو می خواهی اینجا همه رو وارد این ماجرا کنی.

You can't just expect it to work. You have to get out and work."

And we did, and we traveled around,

و ما کردیم و به اطراف سفر کردیم،

and we spoke to elders, we spoke to doctors, we spoke to nurses,

و با بزرگترها،دکترها، پرستارها، صحبت کردیم

we held press conferences, we went out with soldiers,

کنفرانس مطبوعاتی گذاشتیم ، با سربازان بیرون رفتیم،

we sat down with ISAF, we sat down with NATO,

با ناتو و ایساف جلسه گذاشتیم،

we sat down with the U.K. government.

نشستی با دولت بریتانیا داشتیم.

I mean, we basically sat down with everybody --

منظورم اینکه با همه مذاکره کردیم--

in and out of schools with ministers of education,

در داخل و بیرون مدارس، با وزیر آموزش و پرورش،

holding these press conferences,

این کنفرانس های خبری رو گذاشتیم

which of course, now were loaded with press, everybody was there.

که البته، این بار پر از خبرنگار بود و همه اومده بودند.

There was an interest in what was going on.

علاقه ای نسبت به چیزی که داشت انجام می شد بوجود اومده بود.

This amazing woman, Fatima Gailani, was absolutely instrumental in what went on

فاطمه مقالانی، این بانوی حیرت انگیز، نقس اساسی در جاهایی که می رفتیم داشت

as she was the spokesperson for the resistance against the Russians.

چرا که او سخنگوی (جبهه) مقاوت علیه روسها بود.

And her Afghan network

و شبکه نت افغانی اش

was just absolutely everywhere.

در همه جا وجود داشت.

And she was really crucial in getting the message in.

در فرستادن پیاممان به منطقه نقش مهمی داشت.

And then we went home. We'd sort of done it.

بعدش به خونه برگشتیم. کارها رو انجام داده بودیم.

We had to wait now and see what happened.

حالا باید منتظر می شدیم ببینیم چی میشه.

And I got home,

به خونه رفتم

and I remember one of the team bringing in a letter to me

و یادمه که یکی از بچه ها نامه ای به من داد

from the Taliban.

که از طرف طالبان بود.

And that letter basically said, "We'll observe this day.

در نامه به طور کلی نوشته بود:ما این روز را خواهیم دید.

We will observe this day.

ما این روز را خواهیم دید.

We see it as a window of opportunity.

ما به آن به عنوان "پنجره فرصت " نگاه خواهیم کرد.

And we will not engage. We're not going to engage."

اما وارد این کار نخواهیم شد. ما قصد نداریم در این کار شرکت کنیم. "

And that meant that humanitarian workers

و این بدین معنی بود که فعالان حقوق بشر

wouldn't be kidnapped or killed.

دزدیده و کشته نخواهند شد.

And then suddenly, I obviously knew at this point, there was a chance.

و بعد ناگهان ، در این لحظه به طور قطع فهمیدم که هنوز شانسی هست.

And days later,

1.6 million children were vaccinated against polio

as a consequence of everybody stopping.

obviously the most wonderful, wonderful moment.

And so then we wrapped the film up and we put it together

because we had to go back.

چرا که باید بر می گشتیم.

We put it into Dari and Pashto. We put it in the local dialects.

فیلم رو به زبان داری و پشتو گذاشتیم. به لهجه های محلی.

We went back to Afghanistan,

به افغانستان برگشتیم،

because the next year was coming, and we wanted to support.

چرا که سال آینده در راه بود و ما می خواستیم که حمایت کنیم.

But more importantly, we wanted to go back,

اما مهم تر این بود که

because these people in Afghanistan were the heroes.

این مردم در افغانستان قهرمان هستند.

They were the people who believed in peace

آنها کسانی هستند که به صلح و امکان وجود آن

and the possibilities of it, etc., etc. -- and they made it real.

ایمان دارند، آنها این آرزو رو به واقعیت رساندند.

And we wanted to go back and show them the film

و ما می خواستیم برگردیم و فیلم رو به آنها نشان دهیم

and say, "Look, you guys made this possible. And thank you very much."

و بگوییم" ببینید. شما این رو ممکن ساختید.از همه شما ممنونم"

And we gave the film over.

وفیلم رو پایان دادیم.

Obviously it was shown, and it was amazing.

فیلم نمایش داده شد و شگفت انگیز بود.

And then that year, that year, 2008,

و بعد در آن سال، 2008

this ISAF statement from Kabul, Afghanistan, September 17th:

در 17 سپتامبر این بیانه از طرف ایساف در کابل صادر شد:

"General Stanley McChrystal,

ژنرال استنلی مک کریستال

commander of international security assistance forces in Afghanistan,

فرمانده نیروهای کمکی امنیتی بین المللی در افغانستان

announced today ISAF will not conduct offensive military operations

امروز اعلام کرد که ایساف هیچ گونه عملیات نظامی

on the 21st of September."

در تاریخ 21 سپتامبر انجام نخواهد داد. "

They were saying they would stop.

منظورشون این بود که دست از جنگ خواهید کشید.

And then there was this other statement

و بعد این بیانیه

that came out from the U.N. Department of Security and Safety

از طرف وزارت اطلاعات و امنیت اومد

saying that, in Afghanistan,

که می گفت در افغانستان

because of this work,

به خاطر این پروژه

the violence was down by 70 percent.

خشونت تا 70 درصد کاهش یافته .

70 percent reduction in violence on this day at least.

حداقل 70 درصد کاهش خشونت در این روز.

And that completely blew my mind

این واقعا بیش از هر چیز دیگری

almost more than anything.

تکونم داد.

And I remember being stuck in New York, this time because of the volcano,

و یادمه که دوباره در نیویورک گیر افتادم. این بار به خاطر فوران آتش فشان،

which was obviously much less harmful.

که قطعا ( در مقایسه با 11 سپتامبر) کم خطرتر بود.

And I was there thinking about what was going on.

اونجا داشتم به چیزی که اتفاق می افتاد فکر می کردم.

And I kept thinking about this 70 percent.

داشتم مدام به اون کاهش 70 درصدی فکر می کردم.

70 percent reduction in violence --

70 درصد کاهش خشونت--

in what everyone said was completely impossible

در چیزی که همه می گفتن کلاغیر ممکنه

and you couldn't do.

و نمی تونی از پسش بر بیایی.

And that made me think that, if we can get 70 percent in Afghanistan,

و باعث شد تا فکر کنم که اگه تونستیم این 70 درصد رو در افغانستان داشته باشیم

then surely we can get 70 percent reduction everywhere.

پس قطعا می تونیم این کاهش 70 درصدی رو هر جای دیگه هم داشته باشیم.

We have to go for a global truce.

ما باید برای صلح جهانی گام برداریم.

We have to utilize this day of ceasefire and nonviolence

ما باید از این روز صلح و آتش بس

and go for a global truce,

در جهت صلح جهانی بهره بریم.

go for the largest recorded cessation of hostilities,

در جهت ثبت رکوردهابی بزرگتری از پرهیز خشونت،

both domestically and internationally, ever recorded.

چه از نظر جهانی و چه از نظر رکوردهای درون مرزی.

That's exactly what we must do.

این دقیقا کاریه که باید انجام بدیم.

And on the 21st of September this year,

و در 21 سپتامبر امسال،

we're going to launch that campaign at the O2 Arena

قصدداریم تا اون کمپین رو در محوطه O2 ببریم

to go for that process,

برای انجام اون روند،

to try and create the largest recorded cessation of hostilities.

برای ثبت بزرگترین رکورد پرهیز از خشونت (در دنیا).

And we will utilize all kinds of things --

ما از همه چیز استفاده می کنیم--

have a dance and social media

برنامه رقص و رسانه اجتماعی داریم

and visiting on Facebook and visit the website, sign the petition.

از فیس بوک و وب سایت ها دیدن می کنیم و پتیشن ها رو امضا می کنیم.

And it's in the six official languages of the United Nations.

و این کارها رو به شش زبان رسمی در سازمان ملل انجام خواهیم داد.

And we'll globally link with government, inter-government,

و در سطح جهانی با (برنامه های )دولتی، نیمه دولتی

non-government, education, unions, sports.

غیر دولتی، آموزشی، اتحادیه ها، ورزشی در ارتباط خواهیم بود.

And you can see the education box there.

و می تونید جعبه آموزشی رو اونجا ببینید.

We've got resources at the moment in 174 countries

در حال حاظر منابعی از 174 کشور داریم

trying to get young people to be the driving force

و تلاش می کنیم تا افراد جوان

behind the vision of that global truce.

در پشت پرده اون صلح جهانی نقش داشته باشته باشند.

And obviously the life-saving is increased, the concepts help.

I went and saw Seb Coe. I said, "London 2012 is about truce.

Ultimately, that's what it's about."

Why don't we all team up? Why don't we bring truce to life?

Why don't you support the process of the largest ever global truce?

چرا از روند بزرگترین صلح دنیا حمایت نمی کنید؟

We'll make a new film about this process.

ما فیلمی درباره این روند صلح خواهیم ساخت.

We'll utilize sport and football.

ما از ورزش و فوتبال( برای صلح) استفاده خواهیم کرد.

On the Day of Peace, there's thousands of football matches all played,

در روز صلح،هزاران مسابقه فوتبال خواهیم داشت،

from the favelas of Brazil to wherever it might be.

از محله های فقیر نشین برزیل تا هرجای ممکن.

So, utilizing all of these ways

ما از همه این راهها برای

to inspire individual action.

And ultimately, we have to try that.

We have to work together.

And when I stand here in front of all of you,

I think he's one of the most incredible men

in relation to international politics -- in Afghanistan, in Iraq.

در زمینه با سیاست بین اللملی است-- در افغانستان، در عراق.

He's an amazing man.

او مرد شگفت انگیزی است.

And I sat with him a few weeks ago.

و من اونو چند هفته پیش ملاقات کردم.

And I said to him, "Mr. Brahimi, is this nuts, going for a global truce?

بهش گفتم" آقای براهمی، آیا رفتن به سمت صلح جهانی چیز پوچی است؟

Is this possible? Is it really possible that we could do this?"

آیا ممکنه؟ آیا واقعا ما می تونیم بهش برسیم؟"

He said, "It's absolutely possible."

او گفت": قطعا ممکنه."

I said, "What would you do?

پرسیدم:"برای رسیدن به صلح شما چه می کنید؟

Would you go to governments and lobby and use the system?"

آیا شما از قدرت دولت و لابی ها و سیستم استفاده می کنید؟"

He said, "No, I'd talk to the individuals."

گفت:" نه.با مردم صحبت می کنم."

It's all about the individuals.

این موضوع درباره "افراد" است.

It's all about you and me.

درباره من و تو.

It's all about partnerships.

درباره همکاری .

It's about your constituencies; it's about your businesses.

درباره انتخاب و کار شماست.

Because together, by working together,

چرا که باهم، با کار کردن باهم

I seriously think we can start to change things.

قطعا فکر می کنم که می تونیم شروع کنیم به ایجاد تغییر.

And there's a wonderful man sitting in this audience, and I don't know where he is,

و اینجا، در میان حضار مرد شگفت انگیزی است که نمی دونم کجا نشسته،

who said to me a few days ago -- because I did a little rehearsal --

چند روز پیش بهم گفت--چون برای امروز یه کم تمرین کردم--

and he said, "I've been thinking about this day

گفتش"من درباره این روز صلح فکر کردم

and imagining it as a square

اون رو به صورت دایره ای

with 365 squares,

با 365 دایره درونش تصور می کنم،

and one of them is white."

که یکی از اون دایره ها سفیده .

And it then made me think about a glass of water, which is clear.

بعدش منو به فکر یه لیوان آب شفاف انداخت.

If you put one drop,

اگه یه قره تو آب بچکونید

one drop of something, in that water,

یه قطره از هرچیزی،

it'll change it forever.

برای همیشه تغییر میکنه.

By working together, we can create peace one day.

با تلاش با یکدیگر، یک روز می توانیم صلح را بسازیم.
