You're telling a friend an amazing story,

From the point of view of linguistics,

ဘာသာဗေဒအမြင်အရ သဒ္ဒါဟာ

grammar is a set of patterns for how words are put together

စကားစုတွေနဲ့ ဝါကျကဏ္ဍတွေ ဖွဲ့ဖို့ စကားလုံးတွေကို

to form phrases or clauses,

အတူတူ ထားပုံအတွက် ပုံစံအစုတစ်ခုပါ။

whether spoken or in writing.

အပြောမှာဖြစ်ဖြစ်၊အရေးမှာဖြစ်ဖြစ်ပါ။

Different languages have different patterns.

မတူတဲ့ ဘာသာစကားတွေမှာ မတူတဲ့ ပုံစံတွေရှိတယ်။

In English, the subject normally comes first,

အင်္ဂလိပ်မှာ ပုံမှန်က ကတ္တားက အရင်လာပြီး

followed by the verb,

and then the object,

ဒီနောက်မှာ ကံပုဒ်ပါ။

while in Japanese and many other languages,

the order is subject, object, verb.

Some scholars have tried to identify patterns common to all languages,

but apart from some basic features,

few of these so-called linguistic universals have been found.

And while any language needs consistent patterns to function,

The linguistic approach that tries to understand and map such differences

without dictating correct ones is known as descriptivism.

Rather than deciding how language should be used,

Ultimately, grammar is best thought of as a set of linguistic habits

that are constantly being negotiated and reinvented
