I’m sorry!?

So, you should be, look at what you’ve done!

ဒါဆို မင်းလုပ်ခဲ့တာတွေကို ကြည့်သင့်တယ်!

No, hang on a minute. You were the one  who wasn’t looking; you drove into me.

မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ ခဏစောင့်ပါ။ နင်က မကြည့်ဘူးတဲ့၊ မင်းငါ့ကို မောင်းလာခဲ့တယ်

This is a car park, I was simply  reversing out of my space,  

ဒါက ကားပါကင်ပါ၊ ငါ့နေရာကနေ နောက်ပြန်ဆုတ်နေတာပဲ၊

you should have given me some room instead  of trying to zip past me like a maniac.

ငါ့ကို ရူးသွပ်သူတစ်ယောက်လို ဇစ်ပိတ်ဖို့ကြိုးစားမယ့်အစား မင်းငါ့ကို အခန်းတစ်ခုပေးထားသင့်တယ်။

I wasn’t driving like a maniac; I was barely  doing 10 mph. Beside I had right of way.

Look, you don’t need to be so rude. Regardless  of who is at fault here, it was an accident.  

ကြည့်ပါ၊ မင်း ဒီလောက်ရိုင်းစိုင်းနေဖို့ မလိုပါဘူး။ ဒီနေရာမှာ ဘယ်သူက အမှားလုပ်ထားပါစေ မတော်တဆမှုတစ်ခုပါပဲ။

Have a little respect please. And yes,  of course I have insurance. Do you?

ကျေးဇူးပြုပြီး နည်းနည်းလေးလေးစားပါ။ ဟုတ်ပါတယ်၊ ငါအာမခံရှိတယ်။ သင် ... လုပ်ပါသလား?

Ah, that’s not important, as it will be  your insurance company that’ll have to

cover this damage. And looking at the state  of my car, I would say it’s a write off.

A write off? I don’t think so. You have  a broken head-light and a few scratches.

No, the speed at which you ran into me, there  is definitely going to be underlying damage.

မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ မင်း ငါ့ဆီ ပြေးလာတဲ့ အရှိန်ကြောင့် အရင်းခံ ပျက်စီးသွားမှာ သေချာတယ်။

Are you trying to scam me?  Did you do this on purpose?

မင်းငါ့ကိုလိမ်ဖို့ကြိုးစားနေတာလား။ မင်း ဒါကို ရည်ရွယ်ပြီး လုပ်ခဲ့တာလား။

Scam you? What do you take me for? I’m not  gonna stand here and let you abuse me like that.

You’re not insured, are you?

မင်း အာမခံမထားဘူးလား။

It’s none of your business.  Give me what I’ve asked for.

ဒါ မင်းရဲ့လုပ်ငန်းတစ်ခုမှမဟုတ်ဘူး။ ငါတောင်းထားတဲ့အရာကိုပေးပါ။

Let’s call the police, shall we? I am sure  they will happily assist in this situation.

ရဲခေါ်ရအောင်၊ ဒီလိုအခြေအနေမျိုးမှာ သူတို့ ဝမ်းသာအားရ ကူညီပေးကြမယ်လို့ ယုံကြည်ပါတယ်။

Oh, for Pete’s sake, WILL YOU STOP!!!

အိုး Pete ကြောင့် မင်းရပ်မှာလား။

No, I’m not insured. Are you happy now?  

မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ ငါအာမခံတာမဟုတ်ဘူး။ အခု မင်းပျော်နေပြီလား?

Look, I just got out the nick three weeks ago  and I am trying to get my life back in order.  

ကြည့်ပါ၊ လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ သုံးပတ်လောက်ကမှ ထွက်လာပြီး ငါ့ဘဝ ပြန်ကောင်းလာဖို့ ကြိုးစားနေတယ်။

This is my nan’s car, I can’t afford to get  insurance but I.. I need to run some errands

and move some stuff, so I just borrowed it for  today. And now this. My nan’s gonna kill me.

Ok, well look, the damage doesn’t seem extensive.  I’m willing to hold off calling the insurance

I haven’t got two pennies to rub together mate.

I had three interviews as soon as I was released  and all of them rejected me cos of my record.

If you are willing to do some heavy lifting then  there may be a position at my company you could

That’s ok. My name’s Anna by the way.

ရပါတယ်။ ကျွန်တော့်နာမည်က Anna ပါ။

Jackie. It’s nice to meet you, Anna. I guess  you could say, I was lucky to bump into you.

ဂျက်ကီ။ တွေ့ရတာဝမ်းသာပါတယ် Anna။ ငါ မင်းကို ထိမိလို့ ကံကောင်းတယ်လို့ မင်းပြောနိုင်မယ်ထင်တယ်။

Brilliant. Now it's time to look at  the language used in a bit more detail. 

ထက်မြက်သည်။ ယခုအချိန်သည် အနည်းငယ်ပို၍အသေးစိတ်သုံးထားသော ဘာသာစကားကို ကြည့်ရန်အချိန်ဖြစ်သည်။

“You have got to be kidding me!” Okay, phrases like, “you've got to  

"မင်း ငါ့ကို နောက်ပြောင်ရမှာပေါ့!" အိုကေ၊ “မင်း

be kidding me”, “you've got to be joking me.” We  also sometimes ask the question. “Are you joking?”  

ငါ့ကို နောက်ပြောင်ရမယ်”၊ “မင်း ငါ့ကို နောက်ပြောင်ရမယ်” ​​ဟူသော စကားစုများ။ ကျွန်တော်တို့လည်း တစ်ခါတလေ မေးခွန်းမေးတယ်။ "မင်းနောက်နေတာလား?"

“Are you kidding?” This basically means  

"နောက်နေတာလား?" ဒါက အခြေခံအားဖြင့်

I can't believe it. I don't believe it. And it's usually when something's happened  

မယုံနိုင်ဘူးလို့ ဆိုလိုတာပါ။ မယုံဘူး။ တစ်ခုခု

or when something's been said that we don't like.  So, there's something negative. It can be used in  

ဖြစ်တဲ့အခါ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ငါတို့မကြိုက်ဘူးလို့ တစ်ခုခုပြောတဲ့အခါ ဖြစ်တတ်ပါတယ်။ ဒီတော့ အပျက်သဘောဆောင်တာတစ်ခုရှိတယ်။ အပြုသဘောဆောင်တဲ့နည်းနဲ့

a positive way as well. Like if someone says, “Congratulations, you've got the job.” 

လည်း သုံးနိုင်ပါတယ် ။ တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်က "ဂုဏ်ယူပါတယ်၊ မင်းအလုပ်ရပြီ" လို့ပြောရင် ကြိုက်တယ်။

“Are you kidding? Are you..  You've got to be kidding me.” 

"နောက်နေတာလား? မင်းငါ့ကိုနောက်နေတာလား.."

It's just a sense of disbelief. I  don't believe what's just happened. 

ဒါဟာ မယုံကြည်မှု ခံစားမှုသက်သက်ပါ။ ဖြစ်ပျက်ခဲ့တာကို ငါမယုံဘူး။

“Why didn’t you look where you were going?” “I'm sorry.” 

"မင်းဘယ်ကိုသွားမလို့လဲ" "ကိုယ်စိတ်မကောင်းပါဘူး။"

“So, you should be, look at what you’ve done!” 

"ဒါဆို မင်းလုပ်ခဲ့တာတွေကို ကြည့်သင့်တယ်!"

Okay, so what happened there was Anna in the  white and black said, “I'm sorry. I'm sorry.” 

အိုကေ၊ ဒါကြောင့် အဖြူနဲ့ အနက်ဝတ် Anna က “တောင်းပန်ပါတယ်။ ကိုယ်စိတ်မကောင်းပါဘူး။"

And she wasn't actually apologizing, although  that's what the other character took it as. 

တခြားဇာတ်ကောင်က အဲဒါကို ယူထားပေမယ့် သူမ တကယ်တောင်းပန်ခဲ့တာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။

But she wasn't actually apologizing.  She was saying, “Excuse me?” 

ဒါပေမယ့် သူမတကယ်တောင်းပန်ခဲ့တာမဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ သူမက "ခွင့်လွှတ်ပါ"

It was another phrase of disbelief. “I'm sorry! Excuse me! What did you  

၎င်းသည် မယုံကြည်ခြင်း၏ နောက်ထပ်စကားလုံးဖြစ်သည်။ "ကိုယ်စိတ်မကောင်းပါဘူး! တဆိတ်လောက်! မင်းဘာ

just say? I can't believe my ears. Did you really  just say that? Did you call me a stupid idiot?” 

ပြောလိုက်တာလဲ။ ငါ့နားကို ငါမယုံဘူး။ မင်းတကယ်ပဲပြောခဲ့တာလား။ မင်းက ငါ့ကို အရူးလို့ ခေါ်တာလား"

So always take it in context. And from the  manner in which the person is saying, “sorry”,  

ဒါကြောင့် အမြဲတမ်း ဆက်စပ်နေပါ။ “တောင်းပန်ပါတယ်” လို့

but if someone says, “I'm sorry”, in a  questioning way, then what they're saying is,  

တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်က မေးတဲ့ပုံစံနဲ့ “တောင်းပန်ပါတယ်” လို့ ပြောလိုက်ရင်

“Excuse me? Can you say that again? Because  I can't believe you just said what you said.” 

“ခွင့်လွှတ်ပါ” လို့ ပြောနေပုံပါပဲ။ ထပ်ပြောလို့ရမလား မင်းပြောတာကို ငါမယုံနိုင်လို့ပဲ။"

“No, hang on a minute. You were the one  who wasn’t looking; you drove into me.” 

“မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ ခဏနေ။ နင်က မကြည့်ဘူးတဲ့၊ မင်းငါ့ကို မောင်းဝင်လာတယ်"

Okay, so Anna just said, “Hang on a  minute.” “Hang on” is a phrasal verb. And it  

ကောင်းပြီ၊ ဒါဆို Anna က "ခဏနေပါဦး" “Hang on” သည် စကားစုကြိယာဖြစ်သည်။

simply means “wait”, just wait a minute,  I need to understand what's going on here. 

ခဏစောင့်ပါ၊ ဒီမှာဘာဖြစ်နေလဲ ငါနားလည်ဖို့လိုတယ် ။

“This is a car park, I was simply reversing out  of my space, you should have given me some room  

"ဒါက ကားပါကင်ပါ၊ ငါ့နေရာကနေ နောက်ပြန်ဆုတ်နေတာ၊

instead of trying to zip past like a maniac.” Okay, so “to zip”, “to zip.” This can be used  

ရူးသွပ်တဲ့လူလို ဇစ်ပိတ်ဖို့ကြိုးစားမယ့်အစား မင်းငါ့ကို အခန်းတစ်ခုပေးထားသင့်တယ်" ကောင်းပြီ၊ "ဇစ်လုပ်ရန်"၊ "ဇစ်သို့။" ၎င်းကို မတူညီသော အရာများစွာအတွက်

for many different things. But as a verb,  “to zip” means to move quite quickly.  

အသုံးပြုနိုင် သည်။ သို့သော် ကြိယာအနေဖြင့် “to zip” ဆိုသည်မှာ အလွန်လျင်မြန်စွာ ရွေ့လျားခြင်းကို ဆိုလိုသည်။

We talk about cars zipping through the  traffic bikes, motorbikes, cyclists will

zip through standstill traffic, won't they? Can be quite dangerous if, if it's very, very busy  

ရပ်တန့်နေတဲ့ ယာဉ်ကြောကို ဖြတ်သွားမယ့် ကားတွေအကြောင်း ပြောနေကြတာပဲ မဟုတ်လား ။ ဇစ်ဖြတ်ထားရင် အရမ်းအလုပ်များ

if they zip through, but it means to move quickly. She also said, “you zipped past me like  

ရင် တော်တော်အန္တရာယ်ရှိနိုင်ပေမယ့် မြန်မြန်ရွှေ့ဖို့ ဆိုလိုတာပါ။ သူမက “မင်းက ငါ့ကို

a maniac.” Now a maniac is a person who  shows extremely wild and violent behaviour. 

ရူးသွပ်သူတစ်ယောက်လို ဇစ်ဆွဲထားတယ်” ယခုတော့ စိတ်ကြွရူးသွပ်သူသည် အလွန်ရိုင်းစိုင်းကြမ်းတမ်းသော အပြုအမူကို ပြသတတ်သူဖြစ်သည်။

So, there’s a very negative thing to be a  maniac. You’re volatile, wild and violent. 

ဒါကြောင့် စိတ်ကြွရူးသွပ်ဖြစ်ဖို့ အလွန်အပျက်သဘောဆောင်တဲ့အရာတစ်ခုရှိတယ်။ မင်းက မငြိမ်မသက်ဖြစ်ပြီး ရိုင်းစိုင်းကြမ်းတမ်းတယ်။

“I wasn't driving like a maniac. I  was barely doing 10 miles an hour.” 

“ကျွန်တော်က အရူးတစ်ယောက်လို ကားမမောင်းပါဘူး။ တစ်နာရီကို ၁၀ မိုင်လောက်သာ ပြေးတယ်။”

Okay, she said, “I was barely  doing 10 miles an hour.” 

ကောင်းပြီ၊ “ကျွန်မက တစ်နာရီ ၁၀ မိုင်လောက်သာ ပြေးနေတယ်” လို့ ပြောပါတယ်။

If you're barely doing something, it means you're  almost not doing it. You're only just doing it. 

တစ်ခုခုကို လုပ်နေရုံသာ လုပ်နေရင်၊ အဲဒါကို မလုပ်ဖြစ်လုနီးပါး ဖြစ်နေတယ်။ မင်းကသာ လုပ်နေတာ။

If I am going to get a train, I'm going to go and  catch a train. And I'm running late. I arrive at  

ငါရထားစီးရင် ရထားသွားဖမ်းမယ်။ ပြီးတော့ ငါနောက်ကျနေတယ်။ အားလပ်ချိန်မှာ

the train station with only five minutes to spare.  And in that time, I needed to go to the toilet  

ငါးမိနစ်ပဲ ရထားဘူတာကို ရောက်ပါတယ်။ အဲဒီအချိန်မှာ ကျွန်တော်

to take a selfie because I was going to take  pictures all along the trip and buy breakfast from  

ခရီးတစ်လျှောက်လုံး ဓာတ်ပုံတွေရိုက်ပြီး

the shop and ideally sit down eat my breakfast.  I can say to you “Oh, I was so late this morning,  

ဆိုင်မှာ မနက်စာဝယ်ပြီး မနက်စာကို အကောင်းဆုံး ထိုင်စားနေတာကြောင့် အိမ်သာတက်ဖို့ လိုတယ်။ "သြော် ငါဒီမနက် အရမ်းနောက်ကျနေပြီ၊ ငါ့မှာ

I barely had time to take a selfie never  mind go to the toilet and buy breakfast.” 

selfie ရိုက်ဖို့ အချိန်မရှိလို့ အိမ်သာသွားပြီး မနက်စာသွားဝယ်ဖို့ စိတ်ကူးမရှိခဲ့ဘူး"

So, I barely had time to do that. And there  was, there was not enough time to do it. 

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီလိုလုပ်ဖို့ အချိန်သိပ်မရှိတော့ဘူး။ ပြီးတော့ အဲဒါကိုလုပ်ဖို့ အချိန်မလောက်ဘူး။

Okay. Next. “Beside I had right of way. Oh, move out...”

ဟုတ်ပြီ နောက်တစ်ခု။ “ကျွန်မအနားမှာ လမ်းမှန်ရှိတယ်။ အိုး၊ ထွက်သွား..."

“Right of Way.” We're talking  about the road system here.  

"လမ်းမှန်။" ဒီမှာ လမ်းစနစ်အကြောင်း ပြောနေတာ။

If you “have right of way”, it means that you  have priority to go, you're allowed to go. If  

အကယ်၍ သင့်တွင် "လမ်းမှန်" ရှိပါက၊ သင်သည် သွားရန် ဦးစားပေးသည်ဟု ဆိုလိုသည်၊ သင်သည် သွားခွင့်ရှိသည်။ မင်းမှာ လမ်း မှန်မရှိရင်

you don't have right of way, you have to stop  and wait for everybody else until you can go. 

မင်းသွားနိုင်တဲ့အထိ ရပ်ပြီး တခြားလူတွေကို စောင့်ရမယ်။

For example, near where I live, there is a bridge  to go underneath the bridge. It's very narrow,  

ဥပမာ- ကျွန်တော်နေတဲ့နေရာနဲ့ နီးရင် တံတားအောက်မှာ သွားစရာ တံတားရှိတယ်။ အရမ်းကျဉ်းတယ်၊

there's only enough room for one vehicle not two  passing each other. So, someone has to wait on  

ကားတစ်စီးနဲ့တစ်စီး နှစ်ယောက်မဖြတ်ဘဲ လုံလောက်တဲ့အခန်းပဲရှိတယ်။ ဒါကြောင့်

their side of the bridge until it's clear. Whereas  on the other side you have right of away and you  

တံတားရှင်းတဲ့အထိ တစ်ယောက်ယောက်က တံတားဘေးမှာ စောင့်နေရမယ် ။ ဟိုဘက်ကမ်းမှာ

can just drive straight through. You don't have  to wait. You can just keep driving. Because you  

ချက်ခြင်း ချက်ချင်း ဖြတ်မောင်းလို့ရတယ်။ စောင့်စရာမလိုပါ။ ဆက်မောင်းရုံပါပဲ။ ဘာဖြစ်လို့လဲဆိုတော့

have right of way if you're on one side, but  there's signage on the road on the other side  

တစ်ဖက်မှာဆိုရင် လမ်းမှန်ပေမယ့်

of the bridge that says you don't have right of  way. You must give way to other people. Okay?

တံတားတစ်ဖက်က လမ်းမှာ လမ်းမရှိလို့ဆိုတဲ့ ဆိုင်းဘုတ်တွေရှိတယ်။ တခြားသူတွေကို ပေးရမယ်။ အဆင်ပြေလား?

Oh, move out of my way, I need to photograph this  scene as evidence. You better have insurance. 

အိုး၊ ငါ့လမ်းကို ဖယ်လိုက်၊ ငါ ဒီမြင်ကွင်းကို သက်သေအဖြစ် ဓာတ်ပုံရိုက်ရမယ်။ အာမခံထားရင် ပိုကောင်းပါတယ်။

Okay, she says, “You better have insurance.” “To better have something” or someone says,  

ကောင်းပြီ၊ သူက “မင်းမှာ အာမခံထားတာ ပိုကောင်းတယ်။ “တစ်ခုခုကို ပိုကောင်းအောင်လုပ်ဖို့” ဒါမှမဟုတ် တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်က

“You better do something.” They are basically  giving you a warning or giving you advice. 

“မင်းတစ်ခုခုလုပ်ရင် ပိုကောင်းမယ်” လို့ပြောကြတယ်။ ၎င်းတို့သည် အခြေခံအားဖြင့် သင့်အား သတိပေးချက် သို့မဟုတ် အကြံဉာဏ်များ ပေးလျက်ရှိသည်။

Oh, it looks like it's going to rain  today. You better take your umbrella

So, you better take your key to let  yourself in when you get home from work. 

ဒါကြောင့် အလုပ်ကနေ အိမ်ပြန်ရောက်တဲ့အခါ သော့ကို ယူသွားလိုက်တာ ပိုကောင်းပါတယ်။

So, there it's advice. Or I might say  to you, “You better be back by midnight,  

ဒီတော့ အကြံဥာဏ်ရှိတယ်။ ဒါမှမဟုတ် "မင်း ညသန်းခေါင်လောက်မှ ပြန်လာရင် ပိုကောင်းတာပေါ့၊

or I'm locking the doors and you're not  coming in.” That would be a warning. Okay,  

ဒါမှမဟုတ် ငါ တံခါးကို သော့ခတ်ထားပြီး မင်းဝင်မလာဘူး" လို့ ပြောနိုင်တယ်။ အဲဒါက သတိပေးချက်ပဲ ဖြစ်မှာပါ။ ကောင်းပြီ၊

so you better do something, or you better  have something indicates warning or advice. 

သင်သည် တစ်ခုခုလုပ်လျှင် ပိုကောင်းသည်၊ သို့မဟုတ် သင့်တွင် သတိပေးချက် သို့မဟုတ် အကြံဉာဏ်ကို ညွှန်ပြသော အရာတစ်ခုရှိသည်။

Look, you don’t need to be so rude.  Regardless of who is at fault here,  

ကြည့်ပါ၊ မင်း ဒီလောက်ရိုင်းစိုင်းနေဖို့ မလိုပါဘူး။ ဒီနေရာမှာ ဘယ်သူက အမှား

it was an accident. Have a little respect please.  And yes, of course I have insurance. Do you?

လုပ်ထားပါစေ မတော်တဆမှုတစ်ခုပါပဲ။ ကျေးဇူးပြုပြီး နည်းနည်းလေးလေးစားပါ။ ဟုတ်ပါတယ်၊ ငါအာမခံရှိတယ်။ သင် ... လုပ်ပါသလား?

Okay. So, she says, “Your insurance  company will have to cover the damage.” 

ဟုတ်ပြီ ဒါကြောင့် "မင်းရဲ့ အာမခံကုမ္ပဏီဟာ ပျက်စီးဆုံးရှုံးမှုကို ကာမိရမယ်" လို့ သူမကပြောပါတယ်။

“To cover something” when we're  talking about finance bills, means pay. 

“တစ်စုံတစ်ခုအား ကာမိစေရန်” ဟူသည်မှာ ငွေပေးချေမှုနှင့်ပတ်သက်၍ ပေးချေခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။

So, if I say to you, you have to cover  this bill, you have to cover the cost  

ဒါကြောင့် ငါမင်းကိုပြောရင် မင်း ဒီဥပဒေကြမ်းကို ကာမိရမယ်၊

of this damage. I'm saying you have to pay. If we go for dinner or for lunch, and I say,  

ဒီပျက်စီးမှုကုန်ကျစရိတ်ကို မင်း ကာမိရမယ်။ ပေးရမယ်လို့ ပြောနေတယ်။ ညစာသွားစားရင် ဒါမှမဟုတ် နေ့လယ်စာသွားစားရင်

“Don't worry, I'm covering this.”  I'm saying I'm going to pay for this. 

“မစိုးရိမ်ပါနဲ့၊ ငါ ဒါကို ဖုံးကွယ်ထားတယ်” လို့ပြောလိုက်တယ်။ ဒီအတွက် ငါ ပေးမယ်လို့ ပြောနေတာ။

Then she also went on to say, “I  would say that my car is a write off.” 

နောက်တော့ သူက “ငါ့ကားက ပျက်နေတယ်” လို့ ဆက်ပြောတယ်။

“A write off” is, referring to a vehicle,  saying it's too badly damaged, to be repaired.  

"A write off" ဆိုသည်မှာ ပြုပြင်ရန် အလွန်ဆိုးရွားလွန်းသော ပျက်စီးနေသော ယာဉ်ကို ရည်ညွှန်းပါသည်။

So, if you say a car is a write  off, it cannot be repaired,  

ဒါကြောင့် ကားက ပျက်နေတယ် လို့ ပြောရင် ပြုပြင်လို့ မရဘူး ၊

the damage is too extensive. And you  should just buy a new car, basically.

ပျက်စီးမှု က ကျယ်ပြန့်လွန်းတယ်။ အခြေခံအားဖြင့်တော့ ကားအသစ်တစ်စီးဝယ်သင့်တယ်။

A write off? I don’t think so. You have  a broken head-light and a few scratches.

ရေးထားသလား။ မထင်ပါဘူး။ သင့်တွင် ဦးခေါင်းမီးကျိုးပြီး ခြစ်ရာအနည်းငယ်ရှိသည်။

No, the speed at which you ran into me, there  is definitely going to be underlying damage.

မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ မင်း ငါ့ဆီ ပြေးလာတဲ့ အရှိန်ကြောင့် အရင်းခံ ပျက်စီးသွားမှာ သေချာတယ်။

“To run into someone” it means to  collide with a person or with something. 

“တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ထံ ပြေးဝင်ခြင်း” ဆိုသည်မှာ လူတစ်ဦးနှင့် တစ်စုံတစ်ခုနှင့် တိုက်မိခြင်းဟု ဆိုလိုသည်။ မင်း

Here obviously they're talking about  their cars even though they refer to the..  

ငါ့ဆီပြေးလာလို့ ရည်ညွှန်းတာ တောင်မှ သူတို့ကားတွေအကြောင်းပြောနေတာ ထင်ရှားတယ်

that she refers to it as you run into me.  But what she meant is you ran into my car. 

။ ဒါပေမယ့် သူပြောချင်တာက မင်းငါ့ကားထဲကို ပြေးဝင်သွားတာ။

I was in the car you ran into me in my  car. So, it means the cars have collided,  

ငါ့ကားထဲမှာ မင်းငါ့ကို ပြေးဝင်တယ်။ ဒီတော့ ကားတွေ တိုက်မိပြီး

they've ran into each other. You can also use this  

အချင်းချင်း ပြေးသွားတယ်လို့ ဆိုလိုတာပါ။

to talk about meeting someone by  accident in town or anywhere. If you  

မြို့တွင်း သို့မဟုတ် နေရာတိုင်းတွင် မတော်တဆ တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးနှင့် တွေ့ဆုံခြင်းအကြောင်း ပြောရန် အတွက်လည်း ၎င်းကို အသုံးပြုနိုင်သည် ။

happen to collide with someone even  if it's not completely physical,  

ရုပ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာ လုံးဝမဟုတ်ရင်တောင် တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်နဲ့ တိုက်မိရင်

but you just come up to them and go, “Oh, hello.  What are you doing here? Fancy running into you

လား။ အဲဒါစိတ်ဝင်စားစရာပဲ။ ငါမင်းကိုမတွေ့တာကြာပြီ။ နေကောင်းလား?"

It's very similar “to bump into” another phrasal  verb “to bump into” and “to run into”. Both mean  

အခြား phrasal verb "to bump into" နှင့် "to run into" နှင့် အလွန်ဆင်တူပါသည်။ နှစ်ယောက်လုံးက

to kind of collide, accidentally meet. But ‘run’  definitely has more of a hit feeling to it. So,  

ဆောင့ ်တာမျိုးတွေ မတော်တဆ ဆုံကြတာ။ သို့သော် 'ပြေး' သည် ၎င်းအတွက် ပို၍ ထိထိရောက်ရောက် ခံစားရသည်မှာ သေချာပါသည်။ ဒါဆို

you run into someone. Especially when  talking about cars. It means to collide. 

မင်း တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ဆီ ပြေးသွားလိုက်။ အထူးသဖြင့် ကားအကြောင်းပြောတဲ့အခါ။ ဆောင့်ခြင်းကို ဆိုလိုသည်။

“Are you trying to scam me?  Did you do this on purpose?” 

"မင်းငါ့ကိုလိမ်ဖို့ကြိုးစားနေတာလား။ မင်း ဒါကို ရည်ရွယ်ပြီး လုပ်ခဲ့တာလား။"

“Scam you? What do you take me for? I’m not  gonna stand here and let you abuse me like that.  

"မင်း လှည့်စားတာလား? မင်းငါ့ကိုဘာအတွက်ယူတာလဲ။ ငါဒီမှာရပ်ပြီး မင်းငါ့ကိုဒီလိုအနိုင်ကျင့်ခွင့်မပေးဘူး။

Give me your insurance details and get lost.” Okay? “What do you take me for?” She said,  

မင်းရဲ့ အာမခံအသေးစိတ် အချက်အလက်တွေ ငါ့ကို ပေးပြီး ဆုံးရှုံးသွားအောင်။" အဆင်ပြေလား? "မင်းငါ့ကိုဘာအတွက်ယူတာလဲ" သူမက

“What do you take me for?” This means what sort of person  

"မင်းငါ့ကိုဘာအတွက်ယူတာလဲ" ဆိုလိုတာက

do you think I am? You're basically telling  the person who you're talking to that they've..  

ငါက ဘယ်လိုလူလို့ထင်လဲ။ အခြေခံအားဖြင့် သင်ပြောနေတဲ့လူကို သူတို့ပြောနေတယ်..

they've got it all wrong. They've misjudged you. What do you take me for? This is always used in  

သူတို့အားလုံးမှားသွားပြီ။ သူတို့က မင်းကို အထင်လွဲနေကြပြီ။ မင်းငါ့ကိုဘာအတွက်ယူတာလဲ။ သဘောထားကွဲလွဲမှု တစ်မျိုးမျိုး

a kind of disagreement. So, you take  offense at something that someone said. 

ကို အမြဲသုံးသည် ။ ဒါကြောင့် တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ပြောခဲ့တာကို စော်ကားလိုက်တာ။

“Who do you think I am? What do you take me  for? You think I'm a con artist? How dare you?” 

"ငါ့ကိုဘယ်သူလို့ထင်လဲ။ မင်းငါ့ကိုဘာအတွက်ယူတာလဲ။ ငါက အနုပညာသမားလို့ မင်းထင်နေတာလား။ မင်းဘယ်လိုသတ္တိရှိလဲ"

Okay? And then at the end, she  said, “Get lost”, “Get lost.” 

အဆင်ပြေလား? ပြီး​တော့ အဆုံးမှာ "​ပျောက်​သွား​အောင်​" "​ပျောက်​သွား​အောင်​" ဟု​ပြောသည်​။

What she's saying there is “Go away”, “Leave  me alone.” It's... Yeah, it's a... it's a  

“ထွက်သွား” “ငါ့ကို တစ်ယောက်တည်း ထားခဲ့” လို့ ပြောနေတာ ရှိတယ်။ အဲဒါ... ဟုတ်တယ်၊ အဲဒါ... ဒါဟာ

lightly offensive phrase. You wouldn't tell your  boss to get lost because you might get a sack. 

ပေါ့ပေါ့တန်တန် စော်ကားတဲ့ စကားပါ။ အိတ်တစ်လုံးရနိုင်လို့ မင်းရဲ့သူဌေးကို လမ်းပျောက်ဖို့ မင်းပြောမှာမဟုတ်ဘူး။

You wouldn't tell anyone at work to get lost.  You can use it jokingly with a friend or someone  

အလုပ်မှာ ဘယ်သူ့ကိုမှ လမ်းပျောက်အောင် မပြောဘူး။ ၎င်းကို သူငယ်ချင်း သို့မဟုတ် သင်အလွန်ဖော်ရွေသော

you're very friendly with. But you have to  be very careful if it's someone at work and

actually with anyone telling someone to get  lost might upset them. But there are other

much more offensive versions of “get  lost”. But that's a very, very light one. 

"get lost" ၏အခြားအနှောက်အယှက်ဗားရှင်းများစွာရှိသည်။ ဒါပေမယ့် အဲဒါက အရမ်းပေါ့ပါးတယ်။

“Well can I at least see your driving license.”

"အနည်းဆုံး မင်းရဲ့ ယာဉ်မောင်းလိုင်စင်ကို ငါကြည့်လို့ရမလား"

“No! Who do you think you are? Give me your  details now or I will call the police.”

“မဟုတ်ဘူး! မင်းဘယ်သူလို့ထင်လဲ။ မင်းရဲ့အသေးစိတ်အချက်အလက်တွေကို အခုပဲပြောပြပါ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ငါရဲကိုဖုန်းဆက်လိုက်မယ်။"

Okay, she says, “Who do you think you are?” Now this is a way of telling someone that  

ကောင်းပြီ၊ သူက "မင်းကဘယ်သူလို့ထင်လဲ" ယခု ဤနည်းသည် တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးအား

they are conceited or entitled. It's another way of saying, “How dare you?  

စိတ်ဝင်တစား သို့မဟုတ် ရသင့်ရထိုက်ကြောင်း ပြောပြသည့် နည်းလမ်းဖြစ်သည်။ နောက်တစ်မျိုးပြောနည်းကတော့ “မင်းဘယ်လိုလုပ်ရဲတာလဲ။

You think you're so special? You think you're  up there, high status? And I'm down here?  

မင်းအရမ်းထူးခြားတယ်လို့ မင်းထင်လား။ အဆင့်အတန်းမြင့်တယ်လို့ ထင်ပါသလား။ ငါဒီမှာရောက်နေလား။

Who do you think you are? You're not up there.  You're the same as me. You're below me maybe.” 

မင်းဘယ်သူလို့ထင်လဲ။ မင်းအဲဒီမှာမဟုတ်ဘူး။ မင်းက ငါနဲ့အတူတူပဲ။ မင်းက ငါ့အောက်မှာ ရှိကောင်းရှိနိုင်တယ်"

Okay, so it's another way of having a dig, and  telling them that they are out of line, that they  

ကောင်းပြီ၊ အဲဒါက တူးဆွခြင်းရဲ့နောက်ထပ်နည်းလမ်းတစ်ခုဖြစ်ပြီး

are overstepping the mark. There's lots of phrases  here I'm throwing at you. But they what they're  

အမှတ်အသားကို ကျော်လွန်နေပြီလို့ သူတို့ကို လိုင်းမမိကြောင်းပြောခြင်းဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဒီမှာ ငါ မင်းကို ပစ်နေတဲ့ စကားတွေအများကြီးရှိတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် သူတို့ပြောတာကို

saying is unacceptable. Basically, unacceptable. “Who do you think you are?”

လက်မခံဘူး။ အခြေခံအားဖြင့် လက်မခံနိုင်ပါ။ "မင်းကဘယ်သူလို့ထင်လဲ"

“You’re not insured, are you?”

"မင်းအာမခံမထားဘူးလား"

“It’s none of your business.  Give me what I’ve asked for.” 

“ဒါက မင်းရဲ့လုပ်ငန်းမဟုတ်ဘူး။ ငါတောင်းထားတဲ့အရာကို ပေးပါ"

It's none of your business. This is a very  common expression that you use when you don't  

ဒါ မင်းရဲ့လုပ်ငန်းတစ်ခုမှမဟုတ်ဘူး။ ဤသည်မှာ တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးနှင့် အချက်အလက်မမျှဝေလိုပါက

want to share information with someone.  So, it's definitely a little bit harsh. 

သင်အသုံးပြုလေ့ရှိသော အသုံးအနှုန်းတစ်ခုဖြစ်သည် ။ ဒါကြောင့် နည်းနည်းတော့ ကြမ်းတမ်းတာတော့ သေချာတယ်။

So, if someone asks you, oh, how was your  weekend, and you don't want to talk about  

ဒီတော့ တစ်ယောက်ယောက်က မင်းကိုမေးရင် အို၊ မင်းရဲ့ weekend က ဘယ်လိုလဲ၊ မင်း အဲဒီအကြောင်းကို မပြောချင်

it, but they are a nice person,  and you don't want to upset them?  

ပေမယ့် သူတို့က တော်တဲ့လူပဲ၊ မင်း သူတို့ကို စိတ်မဆိုးချင်ဘူး။

I wouldn't say to them, “It's none of your  business,” because they might feel a bit  

"ဒါက မင်းရဲ့စီးပွားရေးမဟုတ်ဘူး" လို့ သူတို့ကို မပြောပါဘူး၊ ဘာဖြစ်လို့လဲဆိုတော့ သူတို့က နည်းနည်း

taken aback by that. They might be a  bit surprised if you use that phrase. 

ထိတ်လန့်သွားနိုင်တယ်။ ထိုစကားစုကို သင်အသုံးပြုပါက အနည်းငယ် အံ့သြသွားနိုင်ပါသည်။

In that situation, I just say, oh, I’m  sorry, I don't want to talk about it.  

ဒီလိုအခြေအနေမျိုးမှာ၊ အိုး၊ တောင်းပန်ပါတယ်၊ အဲဒါကို မပြောချင်ဘူး။

But if you want to be a little bit cutting  a bit direct, and you don't mind maybe  

ဒါပေမယ့် နည်းနည်းလေး ဖြတ်တောက်ချင်ရင်တော့ နည်းနည်းလေး စိတ်အ နှောင့်အယှက်ဖြစ်မှာကို စိတ်မ၀င်စား

upsetting them a little, you say, it's none  of your business! Back off! Leave me alone! 

ဘူး ဆိုရင်တော့ ဒါဟာ မင်းရဲ့လုပ်ငန်းနဲ့ မဟုတ်ဘူးလို့ ပြောလို့ရပါတယ်။ နောက်ဆုတ်။ ငါတစ်ယောက်တည်းနေပါရစေ!

“Let’s call the police, shall we? I am sure  they will happily assist in this situation.”

“ရဲခေါ်ရအောင်၊ ဒီအခြေအနေမှာ သူတို့ ပျော်ရွှင်စွာ ကူညီပေးကြမယ်လို့ ယုံကြည်ပါတယ်။”

“Oh, for Pete’s sake, WILL YOU STOP!!!”

"အိုး Pete ကြောင့် မင်း ရပ်လိုက်မှာလား!!!"

Okay. “For Pete’s sake” There are many versions  

ဟုတ်ပြီ "Pete's sake" ဤအသုံးအနှုန်း၏

of this expression that you can use. This is a  very family friendly version. There are other  

ဗားရှင်းများစွာရှိသည် ။ ဤသည်မှာ အလွန်မိသားစုအတွက် အဆင်ပြေသောဗားရှင်းဖြစ်သည်။

versions that are a bit more crude, rude and  offensive using swear words in place of ‘Pete’.  

'Pete' အစား 'Pete' အစား ဆဲဆိုစကားများသုံး၍ အနည်းငယ်ရိုင်းသည်၊ ရိုင်းစိုင်းပြီး ရိုင်းစိုင်းသော အခြားဗားရှင်းများလည်း ရှိသေးသည်

But “for Pete's sake” is just an expression  that we use when we're frustrated, or annoyed.

“For Pete's sake, can you stop with  that music? It's giving me a headache.” 

"Pete ကြောင့် ဒီသီချင်းကို ရပ်တန့်နိုင်မလား။ ခေါင်းကိုက်စေတယ်။”

Okay, so frustration or annoyance  would lead to that phrase.

Okay. “Are you happy now?” “Are you  happy now?” is a rhetorical question

that you use with a sarcastic tone. So, you know that they're probably

not going to be happy. Because you hear she's  admitted something that she's not proud of?

Or maybe you do something that you don't  want to do. And so, you look at them and go,

"မင်းအခုပျော်နေပြီလား။ ဒါ မင်းလိုချင်တာလား။" ဒါသူတို့လိုချင်တာမဟုတ်ဘူးဆိုတာ မင်းသိပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့်

again, it's just a way of having a dig. Are you  happy now? There? So, it's very sarcastic. Okay. 

လည်း အဲဒါက တူးတဲ့နည်းလမ်းပဲလေ။ အခု မင်းပျော်နေပြီလား? အဲဒီမှာ? ဒီတော့ အရမ်းရွဲ့တယ်။ ဟုတ်ပြီ

So it might be that my partner and I have  a disagreement about whether to give my son  

ဒါကြောင့် ငါ့အဖော်နဲ့ ငါ့သားကို

ice cream or not. And I say don't give him  ice cream because he will be up all night,  

ရေခဲမုန့်ပေးမလား မပေးဘူးလားဆိုတဲ့ သဘောထားကွဲလွဲမှုဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။ ပြီးတော့ သူက တစ်ညလုံး အိပ်နေတာကြောင့် သူ့ကို ရေခဲမုန့် မပေးပါနဲ့လို့ ပြောတယ်၊

or it will make him hyperactive. We have an argument and my partner says,  

ဒါမှမဟုတ် အဲဒါက သူ့ကို စိတ်လှုပ်ရှားမှု ဖြစ်စေတယ်။ ငါတို့မှာ အငြင်းအခုံတစ်ခုရှိပြီး ငါ့အဖော်က

“No, give him ice cream.” An I go, “Fine!” I give him the ice cream. My son eats the ice

cream and get so excited and hyperactive that he  throws up. And then he doesn't go to sleep until  

မုန့်စားပြီး အရမ်းစိတ်လှုပ်ရှားပြီး ခုန်ပေါက်သွားတယ်။ ပြီးတော့

midnight. And I say to my partner, “Are you happy  now? We gave him ice cream. Are you happy now?” 

ညသန်းခေါင်အထိ အိပ်မပျော်ဘူး။ ပြီးတော့ ငါက ငါ့အဖော်ကို “အခု မင်းပျော်နေလား။ ငါတို့က သူ့ကို ရေခဲမုန့်ပေးတယ်။ အခု မင်းပျော်နေပြီလား"

Of course, my partner is not going to be happy  with the outcome. He made a bad decision. 

ဟုတ်ပါတယ်၊ ကျွန်တော့်ရဲ့လက်တွဲဖော်က ရလဒ်အတွက် ပျော်ရွှင်နေမှာ မဟုတ်ပါဘူး။ ဆိုးရွားတဲ့ ဆုံးဖြတ်ချက်တစ်ခုကို ချလိုက်တယ်။

“I just got out the nick  three weeks ago and I am...”

“လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ သုံးပတ်လောက်က ကျွန်တော် နစ်ခ်က ထွက်လာပြီး ကျွန်တော်က…”

“The nick.” “The nick” is a slang term for prison.  So, she just got out of prison three weeks ago.

“နစ်ခ်” “Nick” သည် ထောင်အတွက် ဘန်းစကားဖြစ်သည်။ ဒါကြောင့် လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ သုံးပတ်လောက်က ထောင်က ထွက်လာတယ်။

“... trying to get my life back  in order. This is my nan’s car,

ပြောပြီး အလုပ်တွေ လုပ်ခိုင်းတယ်။ "အလုပ်များလုပ်ခြင်း" ဆိုသည်မှာ အလုပ် သို့မဟုတ် အိမ်မှုကိစ္စများကို လုပ်ဆောင်ခြင်း ဖြစ်သည်။ အလုပ်ကိစ္စများ သည်

be things like having to post some letters.  So going to the post office to post a parcel,  

စာအချို့တင်ရန်လိုသည်။ ဒါနဲ့ ပါဆယ်ထုပ်တင်ဖို့ စာတိုက်ကိုသွား

buy stamps, post some letters, maybe going  to the bank to open up a bank account.

Things that are like life administration, job.

ဘဝစီမံခန့်ခွဲမှု၊ အလုပ်နှင့်တူသောအရာများ။

“... some stuff, so I just borrowed it for  today. And now this. My nan’s gonna kill me.”

"... တစ်ချို့ ပစ္စည်းတွေ ဆိုတော့ ဒီနေ့ပဲ ငှားလိုက်တာ။ ယခုလည်း ဤ။ ငါ့အမေ ငါ့ကိုသတ်လိမ့်မယ်"

“My nan’s gonna kill me.” This is a phrase meaning  

"ငါ့မိန်းမ ငါ့ကိုသတ်မယ်" ဤသည်မှာ

someone's going to be extremely angry  and upset with you. They're not actually  

တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးသည် သင့်အား အလွန်အမင်း စိတ်ဆိုးပြီး စိတ်ဆိုးသွားမည့် အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရှိသော စကားစုဖြစ်သည်။ သူတို့က မင်း

going to physically kill you but they  are going to be angry with you. Okay? 

ကို ရုပ်ပိုင်းဆိုင်ရာအရ သတ်မှာမဟုတ်ပေမယ့် မင်းကို စိတ်ဆိုးသွားလိမ့်မယ်။ အဆင်ပြေလား?

So, if I use my partner as an example, again.  If my partner did something that upset me,

Okay, so “hold off”, “hold off” means  also to stop to kind of wait and not  

အေးပါကွာ” “နေပါဦး” ဟူသော အဓိပ္ပါယ်မှာ သင်လုပ်လိုသည့်အရာကို မလုပ်ဘဲ စောင့်ဆိုင်းနေခြင်းမျိုးကို ရပ်တန့်ရန် ဆိုလိုသည်

do something you're intending to do. So, if I'm going to book some tickets

မနက်ဖြန်အထိ ဒီလက်မှတ်တွေကို ကြိုတင်မှာထားလို့ ရနိုင်မလားဆိုတာ သေချာပြောပြနိုင်မှာပါ"

“Okay.” So then I will  

“ကောင်းပြီ။” ဒါဆို

hold off booking those tickets. Okay, so it's,  in a sense, it's waiting, just like “hold on”.  

ဒီလက်မှတ်တွေကို booking မလုပ်တော့ဘူးနော်။ အိုကေ၊ ဒါ တစ်နည်းအားဖြင့် “စောင့်” နေသလိုမျိုး စောင့်နေတယ်။

But this is waiting on an action  that you are intending to do.

ဒါပေမယ့် ဒါက မင်းလုပ်ချင်တဲ့ လုပ်ဆောင်ချက်ကို စောင့်နေတယ်။

“... see what the repairs are and  figure out who should cover what.”

"... ပြုပြင်မှုတွေက ဘာတွေလဲဆိုတာ ကြည့်ပြီး ဘယ်သူက ဘာကို အကာအကွယ်ပေးရမလဲ ဆိုတာ အဖြေရှာကြည့်ပါ။"

“Figure out.” “To figure something out” is to  

"အဖြေရှာရသည်။" “တစ်ခုခုကို အဖြေရှာ ရန်” ဆိုသည်မှာ

solve a problem or find the best way of doing  something. It’s very similar to “work out”. 

ပြဿနာတစ်ခုကို ဖြေရှင်းရန် သို့မဟုတ် တစ်ခုခုကို လုပ်ဆောင်ရန် အကောင်းဆုံးနည်းလမ်းကို ရှာဖွေခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။ ၎င်းသည် "လေ့ကျင့်ခန်း" နှင့်အလွန်ဆင်တူသည်။

“I'm going to figure out how I'm going to pay  this bill. Because I don't have the money. So,

So, I will solve that problem. I'll  think through it and find the best  

ဒီတော့ ဒီပြဿနာကို ငါဖြေရှင်းမယ်။ အဲဒါကို စဉ်းစားပြီး အကောင်းဆုံး

solution. So, “to figure something out”. And she said figure out who should cover  

အဖြေကို ရှာမယ်။ ဒီတော့ "တစ်ခုခုကို အဖြေရှာဖို့" ပြီးတော့ ဘယ်သူက

what. Remember “to cover” means  to pay for in this situation. 

ဘာကို ဖုံးဖိထားရမယ်ဆိုတာ တွေးကြည့်တယ်။ “ကာဗာ” ဆိုသည်မှာ ဤအခြေအနေတွင် ပေးဆောင်ရန် သတိရပါ။

So, I'll figure out who should pay for  what, in terms of the damage to the cars.

“I haven’t got two pennies to rub together mate.” Oh, she hasn't got two pennies to rub together.

This is a phrase that means “I'm  poor”. I've got no money. I don't have

two pennies to rub together. So, I've got no money whatsoever.

“I had three interviews as soon as I was released  and all of them rejected me cos of my record.”

“All of them rejected me because of my record.” So here, we know she's been in the nick.  

"အားလုံးက ငါ့ရဲ့ မှတ်တမ်းကြောင့် ငါ့ကို ငြင်းပယ်ခဲ့တယ်" ဒါကြောင့် ဒီမှာ၊ သူမဟာ နစ်ခ်မှာ ရှိနေတယ်ဆိုတာ ငါတို့သိတယ်။

Prison. And she's served time. So, she's been in prison for a length of time.  

အကျဉ်းထောင်။ ပြီးတော့ သူမ တာဝန်ထမ်းဆောင်ချိန် ဒါကြောင့် ထောင်ထဲမှာ နှစ်ရှည်လများ နေခဲ့တာ။

Now she has a criminal record. Often this  is just shortened to “record”. “My record”,

Okay, “ID” just means your identification. We rarely say before word identification.

“for acting like an ass”. And “arse” again is a

slightly offensive or very lightly offensive  word. It is one of our lower level swear words.

You wouldn't want a child saying “arse”  but you wouldn't be too offended if you

heard an adult saying “arse” and “to  be an arse” is just to be an idiot.

So, she said I'm sorry for  acting like an idiot earlier. 

ဒါကြောင့် စောစောက အရူးတစ်ယောက်လို ပြုမူမိတဲ့အတွက် တောင်းပန်ပါတယ်လို့ ပြောပါတယ်။

“That’s ok. My name’s Anna by the way.” “My name is Anna, by the way.”

"ရပါတယ်။ ကျွန်တော့်နာမည်က Anna ပါ။” "ကျွန်တော့်နာမည် Anna ပါ" ထို့ကြောင့်၊

So, “by the way”, is used to introduce information

that's not directly linked  to what's being discussed.

So, let's say we're talking  about going for lunch tomorrow.

“Oh yeah, let's go for lunch  tomorrow. Where do you want to go?”

“Oh, there's a lovely little  cafe down by the river.” 

"အိုး၊ မြစ်ကမ်းနားက ချစ်စရာကောင်းတဲ့ ကော်ဖီဆိုင်လေးတစ်ခုရှိတယ်။"

“That sounds great. By the way, tomorrow is mum's  birthday, we must get her a card and a present.” 

“အဲဒါက အသံကောင်းတယ်။ မနက်ဖြန်ဆို အမေမွေးနေ့ဆိုတော့ ကတ်ပြားနဲ့ လက်ဆောင်ပေးရမယ်”

So, you see that information is completely  unrelated. But by saying, “by the way”,  

ဒါကြောင့် ဒီအချက်အလက်ဟာ လုံးဝဆက်စပ်မှုမရှိဘူးလို့ သင်မြင်ပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် “လမ်းမလျှောက်နဲ့”

you are showing, I'm going to  tell you something else now. 

လို့ ပြောလိုက်တာနဲ့ မင်းကို ပြနေတယ်၊ ​​ငါ အခု မင်းကို တခြားတစ်ခု ပြောပြမယ်။

I realize it's unrelated. But I need to get this  in. It's important information for you to know.

“By the way, my name is Anna”. Okay, so it could come before or after.

ပြောနိုင်ပါတယ် ။ ကောင်းပြီ၊ အဲဒါက ရှေ့ သို့မဟုတ် နောက်မှာ ဖြစ်နိုင်တယ်။

“Jackie. It’s nice to meet you, Anna. I guess  you could say, I was lucky to bump into you.”

“ဂျက်ကီ။ တွေ့ရတာဝမ်းသာပါတယ် Anna။ မင်းပြောနိုင်တာ ငါမင်းကို လာတိုက်တာ ကံကောင်းတယ်"

Now, she made a joke here. She  physically bumped into her car. 

အခု ဒီမှာ ဟာသလုပ်တယ်။ သူမ ကားကို ကိုယ်ထိလက်ရောက် ဝင်တိုက်မိသည် ။

So, they had a bump, we would talk about a  bump, “Oh I had a little bump in the car today.” 

ဒီတော့ သူတို့မှာ အဖုအထစ်တွေ ရှိခဲ့တယ်၊ “အိုး ဒီနေ့ ကားပေါ်မှာ နည်းနည်းလေး ဆောင့်မိသွားတယ်” လို့ပြောမယ်။

If you had a minor car crash.  Minor, like a teeny tiny no damage,  

အသေးအမွှားယာဉ်တိုက်မှုဖြစ်လျှင်။ အပျက်အစီးမရှိသော ဆယ်ကျော်သက် သေးသေးလေး

really just a little bump, like  I might bump into the wall. Oops.  

ကဲ့သို့၊ နံရံကို ထိမိသွားသလိုမျိုး၊ တကယ်ကို အနည်းငယ် အဖုအထစ်တစ်ခုမျှသာ ဖြစ်သည်။ အောင်မလေး။

Happens sometimes when you're parking in a  tight space, you might have a little bump. 

တင်းကျပ်တဲ့နေရာတစ်ခုမှာ ကားရပ်တဲ့အခါ တစ်ခါတစ်ရံမှာ ဖြစ်တတ်သလို၊ ဆောင့်မိတာတွေလည်း ရှိနိုင်ပါတယ်။

If you bang yourself, you might bump yourself  on the head or get a little bump on the knee. 

သင်ကိုယ်တိုင် ရိုက်မိပါက ခေါင်းကို ထိမိခြင်း သို့မဟုတ် ဒူးပေါ်တွင် အနည်းငယ် အဖုအထစ်ဖြစ်နိုင်သည်။

So, it means a collision that's minor. Now “to bump into someone” I mentioned this  

ဒါကြောင့် အသေးအမွှားလေးဖြစ်တဲ့ တိုက်မိမှုလို့ ဆိုလိုပါတယ်။ ယခု "တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးကို ဝင်တိုက်ရန်

earlier common phrasal verb meaning “to meet  someone by chance”, but you don't necessarily  

" ဟူသော အဓိပ္ပါယ်မှာ "တစ်စုံတစ်ဦးကို မတော်တဆ တွေ့ဆုံရန်" ဟူသော အဓိပ္ပာယ်ကို အစောပိုင်းတွင် ကျွန်ုပ်ဖော်ပြခဲ့သည်၊ သို့သော် သင်သည်

actually bump into them. You just, “Oh, hello! Fancy seeing you here.” 

၎င်းတို့ကို အမှန်တကယ် ထိမိရန် မလိုအပ်ပါ။ သင်က "အိုး၊ မင်္ဂလာပါ။ မင်းဒီမှာတွေ့ချင်နေတာလား။"

The same as “run into someone”. “Oh, I ran into  

"တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်ဆီသို့ ပြေးသွားခြင်း" နှင့် အတူတူပင်။ “အိုး၊

my old school friend at the post office.” 

စာတိုက်က ကျောင်းနေဘက် သူငယ်ချင်းဟောင်းတွေဆီ ပြေးသွားတယ်။

So, “bump into”, “run into” and obviously here  she's doing a play on words. She said I was lucky  

ဒီတော့ “ဆောင့်”၊ “ပြေး” ပြီး ဒီမှာ စကားလုံးတွေနဲ့ ကစားနေတာ သိသာပါတယ်။ မင်းကို လာတိုက်တာ ငါကံကောင်းတယ်

to bump into you. I was lucky to bump into you. Physically she was lucky to meet that person by

chance and the cars colliding. I  was lucky to hit your car today. 

အဲဒီလူနဲ့တွေ့တာ ကံကောင်းတယ် ။ ဒီနေ့ မင်းရဲ့ကားကို တိုက်မိလို့ ကံကောင်းလိုက်တာ။

ဟုတ်တယ်ဟုတ်? မင်းအလှည့်။ Anna ရဲ့ အပိုင်းကို အရင်ဖတ်ရတော့မယ်ဆိုတော့ သွားကြည့်ရအောင်။

“You stupid idiot! Why didn’t  you look where you were going?”

"မင်းက မိုက်မဲတဲ့လူ! မင်းဘယ်ကိုသွားနေတာလဲ မကြည့်ဘူးလား"

“So, you should be, look at what you’ve done!”

"ဒါဆို မင်းလုပ်ခဲ့တာတွေကို ကြည့်သင့်တယ်!"

“This is a car park, I was  simply reversing out of my space,  

"ဒါက ကားပါကင်ပါ၊ ငါ့နေရာကနေ နောက်ပြန်ဆုတ်နေတာ၊

you should have given me some room instead  of trying to zip past like a maniac.”

ရူးသွပ်တဲ့လူလို ဇစ်ပိတ်ဖို့ကြိုးစားမယ့်အစား မင်းငါ့ကို အခန်းတစ်ခုပေးထားသင့်တယ်"

“Oh, move out of my way, I need to photograph this  scene as evidence. You better have insurance.”

“အိုး ငါ့လမ်းကို ဖယ်လိုက်၊ ငါ ဒီမြင်ကွင်းကို သက်သေအဖြစ် ဓာတ်ပုံရိုက်ရမယ်။ မင်း အာမခံထားတာ ပိုကောင်းတယ်။"

“Ah, that’s not important, as it will be  your insurance company that’ll have to  

“အာ့၊ ဒါက အရေးမကြီးပါဘူး၊

cover this damage. And looking at the state  of my car, I would say it’s a write off.”

ဒီပျက်စီးမှုကို ကာမိမယ့် မင်းရဲ့ အာမခံကုမ္ပဏီ ဖြစ်လိမ့်မယ်။ ပြီးတော့ ငါ့ကားရဲ့ အခြေအနေကို ကြည့်လိုက်တော့ မှားသွားပြီလို့ ပြောလိမ့်မယ်။”

“No, the speed at which you ran into me, there  is definitely going to be underlying damage.”

"မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ မင်းငါ့ဆီပြေးလာတဲ့အရှိန်နဲ့ သေချာပေါက် ပျက်စီးသွားလိမ့်မယ်"

“Scam you? What do you take me for? I’m not  gonna stand here and let you abuse me like that.  

"မင်း လှည့်စားတာလား? မင်းငါ့ကိုဘာအတွက်ယူတာလဲ။ ငါဒီမှာရပ်ပြီး မင်းငါ့ကိုဒီလိုအနိုင်ကျင့်ခွင့်မပေးဘူး။

Give me your insurance details and get lost.”

မင်းရဲ့ အာမခံအသေးစိတ် အချက်အလက်တွေ ငါ့ကို ပေးပြီး ဆုံးရှုံးသွားအောင်။"

“There’s my card, my name  and number’s on the back.”

“နောက်ကျောမှာ ငါ့ကတ်၊ ငါ့နာမည်နဲ့ နံပါတ်”

“Give me your details and I can pass any  additional information you need via email.”

"မင်းရဲ့အသေးစိတ်အချက်အလက်တွေကို ငါ့ကို ပေးပြီးတော့ မင်းလိုအပ်တဲ့ နောက်ထပ်အချက်အလက်တွေကို အီးမေးလ်ကနေတစ်ဆင့် ပို့ပေးနိုင်တယ်။"

“No! Who do you think you are? Give me your  details now or I will call the police.”

“မဟုတ်ဘူး! မင်းဘယ်သူလို့ထင်လဲ။ မင်းရဲ့အသေးစိတ်အချက်အလက်တွေကို အခုပဲပြောပြပါ ဒါမှမဟုတ် ငါရဲကိုဖုန်းဆက်လိုက်မယ်။"

“It’s none of your business.  Give me what I’ve asked for.”

“ဒါက မင်းရဲ့လုပ်ငန်းမဟုတ်ဘူး။ ငါတောင်းထားတဲ့အရာကို ပေးပါ"

“Oh,  

"အိုး

for Pete’s sake, WILL YOU STOP!!! No, I’m not insured. Are you happy now?  

Pete ကြောင့် မင်း ရပ်လိုက်မှာလား။ မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ ငါအာမခံတာမဟုတ်ဘူး။ အခု မင်းပျော်နေပြီလား?

Look, I just got out the nick three weeks ago  and I am trying to get my life back in order.  

ကြည့်ပါ၊ လွန်ခဲ့တဲ့ သုံးပတ်လောက်ကမှ ထွက်လာပြီး ငါ့ဘဝ ပြန်ကောင်းလာဖို့ ကြိုးစားနေတယ်။

This is my nan’s car, I can’t afford to get  insurance but I.. I need to run some errands  

ဒါ ငါ့ညီရဲ့ကားပါ၊ အာမခံရဖို့ မတတ်နိုင်ပေမယ့် ငါ.. အလုပ်တွေလုပ်ခိုင်း

and move some stuff, so I just borrowed it for  today. And now this. My nan’s gonna kill me.”

ပြီး ပစ္စည်းတွေရွှေ့ဖို့ လိုတယ်၊ ဒါကြောင့် ဒီနေ့ပဲ ငှားလိုက်တယ်။ ယခုလည်း ဤ။ ငါ့အမေ ငါ့ကိုသတ်လိမ့်မယ်"

“I haven’t got two pennies to rub together mate.  

“သူငယ်ချင်းနှစ်ယောက်ကို အတူတူပွတ်သပ်ဖို့ ငါ့မှာ တစ်ပြားမှ မရှိဘူး။

I had three interviews as soon as I was released  and all of them rejected me cos of my record.”

ထွက်လာပြီးတာနဲ့ အင်တာဗျူး သုံးခုလုပ်ခဲ့ပြီး အားလုံးက ကျွန်တော့်ရဲ့ မှတ်တမ်းကြောင့် ကျွန်တော့်ကို ပယ်ချခဲ့ပါတယ်။”

“That’s…umm, amazing. Thank you. I’m so sorry  for acting like an arse before, I just panicked.”

“အဲဒါ… အံ့သြစရာပဲ။ ကျေးဇူးတင်ပါတယ်။ အရင်က မြည်းတစ်ကောင်လို ပြုမူမိတဲ့အတွက် စိတ်မကောင်းပါဘူး၊ ထိတ်လန့်တုန်လှုပ်မိပါတယ်"

“Jackie. It’s nice to meet you, Anna. I guess  you could say, I was lucky to bump into you.”

“ဂျက်ကီ။ တွေ့ရတာဝမ်းသာပါတယ် Anna။ မင်းပြောနိုင်တာ ငါမင်းကို လာတိုက်တာ ကံကောင်းတယ်"

Awesome. Now let's swap roles. You are now  playing the Jack or Jackie character. Let's go

အရမ်းကောင်းတယ်။ ကဲ ရာထူးတွေ ဖလှယ်ကြရအောင်။ သင်သည် ယခု Jack သို့မဟုတ် Jackie ဇာတ်ကောင်အဖြစ် သရုပ်ဆောင်နေပါသည်။ သွားကြစို့

“You have got to be kidding me!”

"မင်းငါ့ကိုနောက်နေတာဖြစ်ရမယ်!"

“I’m sorry!?”

"ကိုယ်စိတ်မကောင်းပါဘူး!?"

“No, hang on a minute. You were the one  who wasn’t looking; you drove into me.”

“မဟုတ်ဘူး၊ ခဏနေ။ နင်က မကြည့်ဘူးတဲ့၊ မင်းငါ့ကို မောင်းဝင်လာတယ်"

“I wasn’t driving like a maniac; I was barely  doing 10 mph. Beside I had right of way.”

“ကျွန်တော်က အရူးတစ်ယောက်လို ကားမမောင်းပါဘူး။ တစ်နာရီကို ၁၀ မိုင်လောက်သာ ပြေးခဲ့တယ်။ ငါ့အနားမှာ လမ်းမှန်ရှိတယ်”

“Look, you don’t need to be so rude.  Regardless of who is at fault here,  

“ကြည့်စမ်း၊ မင်း ဒီလောက်ရိုင်းစိုင်းနေဖို့ မလိုဘူး။ ဒီနေရာမှာ ဘယ်သူက အမှား

it was an accident. Have a little respect please.  And yes, of course I have insurance. Do you?”

လုပ်ထားပါစေ မတော်တဆမှုတစ်ခုပါပဲ။ ကျေးဇူးပြုပြီး နည်းနည်းလေးလေးစားပါ။ ဟုတ်ပါတယ်၊ ငါအာမခံရှိတယ်။ သင် ... လုပ်ပါသလား?"

“A write off? I don’t think so. You have  a broken head-light and a few scratches.”

"ရေးထားလား? မထင်ပါဘူး။ မင်းမှာ ကွဲနေတဲ့ ခေါင်းမီးနဲ့ ခြစ်ရာတွေ ပေါက်နေတယ်"

“Are you trying to scam me?  Did you do this on purpose?”

"မင်းငါ့ကိုလိမ်ဖို့ကြိုးစားနေတာလား။ မင်း ဒါကို ရည်ရွယ်ပြီး လုပ်ခဲ့တာလား။"

“You give me your details first.”

"မင်းရဲ့အသေးစိတ်အချက်အလက်တွေကို မင်းငါ့ကိုအရင်ပြောပြပါ။"

“And what about your insurance details?”

"မင်းရဲ့အာမခံအသေးစိတ်ကရော ဘယ်လိုလဲ။"

“Well can I at least see your driving license.”

"အနည်းဆုံး မင်းရဲ့ ယာဉ်မောင်းလိုင်စင်ကို ငါကြည့်လို့ရမလား"

“You’re not insured, are you?”

"မင်းအာမခံမထားဘူးလား"

"Let’s call the police, shall we? I am sure  they will happily assist in this situation.”

“ရဲခေါ်ရအောင်၊ ငါတို့က ဒီအခြေအနေမှာ သူတို့ ဝမ်းသာအားရ ကူညီပေးမှာ သေချာတယ်”

“Ok, well look, the damage doesn’t seem extensive.  I’m willing to hold off calling the insurance  

“ကောင်းပြီ၊ ပျက်စီးမှုက ကျယ်ပြောပုံမပေါ်ပါဘူး။ အာမခံ

company. We can see what the repairs are  and figure out who should cover what.”

ကုမ္ပဏီကို ဖုန်းဆက်ပြီး ခေတ္တရပ်ထားချင်ပါတယ်။ ပြုပြင်မှုတွေက ဘာတွေလဲဆိုတာ သိနိုင်ပြီး ဘယ်သူက ဘာကို အကာအကွယ်ပေးသင့်တယ်ဆိုတာ သိနိုင်ပါတယ်။”

“If you are willing to do some heavy lifting then  there may be a position at my company you could

“That’s ok. My name’s Anna by the way.”
